  • Hey everyone welcome back to Ignition On The Left! In this video we take a look at one of Porsche's most recent accomplishments. They recently set a new lap record at Laguna Seca in a street legal Taycan Turbo GT. The new Taycan set a time of 1:27.87 to beat the Tesla Plaid's time by 5 seconds. But, is this just the superficial view?

No matter what brand, a professional team can do A LOT to improve lap times that can't be seen to the naked eye. The only fair thing would be to pick any random car from the dealership, adjust tyre pressure and go.

    • @ignitionontheleft

That's what i vote for. It would be gangster to put a local hot shoe in there, dump pressures and let it rip.

You arguably say that it is not a fair comparison. But a german automotive UA-camr was also invited and filmed the attempt. In this video, the employees of Porsche stated that the prepared car was even a bit heavier than the delivery model due to roll cage, computers etc.
So they 1. increased safety while record attempts (already mentioned in comments) without being forced by regulations 2. they were even like 20-40 pounds heavier (if I remember right).

The regular tesla model s plaid posted a 7:35 .. the taycan turbo s posted a 7:33 .. porsche beat the plaid when both used street tires . tesla "Track pack" cheated it had to use track tire semi slicks (GoodYear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3Rs) that are only used for track times not for street use to beat the porsche taycan, panamera turbo s, m5cs,m3cs, and some other 4 door sedans that all used STREET TIRES. The tesla plaid has 1,000hp and the other cars i named have 400hp less then the plaid. Yet when they all used street tires those cars beat it. The semi slicks on the track pack plaid alone shaves off 10-15 sec. The track pack then posted a 7:25
Think how embarrassing that is that a car with 1000hp couldn't beat a 400hp less taycan. BMW/Porsche design and handling is on another planet.
Elon ego got hurt that the tesla performed so bad for sedan standards so he had to use illegal street, only track tires. He lies about teslas 0-60 times by using rollout. The model 3 performance says 3.1 but it actually does 3.4 . The plaid is supposed to be under 2 sec but does 2.3

It all seems to be smoke and mirrors with all these so called tests. Why do they garner so much attention?

@@ignitionontheleft idk but it is funny seeing all the broke average joe tesla fans that are so ignorant. They said the taycan was missing its rear seats and how that isn't a real lap time but completely disregarded the fact the tesla track pack ALSO was stripped down during it's lap time. The roll cage anyways makes up for the missing seats in weight.. probably adding even more weight honestly.

A friend was at Ring for months before the Turbo GT release. Manthey (which is part of Porsche now) was behind the development
As far as Plaid, that POS crashed on the Ring due to brake failure and broke down numerous times.

To answer your questions about the role cage : Kevin Giek from Porsche stated in an interview about the record that they are not doing any record attempts without role cage anymore..also they said without Weissach pack the time would be 0.8-0.9 seconds slower probably ..

@@ignitionontheleft Mayk Wienkötter from Porsche even said during the presentation at Laguna Seca, that the stripped car with the full cage is even around 20kg heavier then the regular Weissach Package car.

No backseats is actually stock for the Weissach package

  • @Aggie4life77
    @Aggie4life77 2 місяці тому +2

If I’m not mistaken, all they did was remove the back seat and some plastic to compensate for the added weight of the role cage. How is that not street legal! If you take the roll cage out and add the seat and plastic back, it would weigh the same.🤷🏾‍♂️

Stock, it's not stock. Street legal, yes - not the car you walk in and buy off the showroom floor.

Kind of like the new Civic Type R's "production car" Nurburgring lap time. Production car... with missing radio. Production car... with either higher boost or different gearing... Production car... with sticky tires. I don't think anyone would have thought the Tycan (or Civic Type R) was any less cool if they were a smidge slower around a track that many people will never even see.

I dont think that they cheated because they stated that the car on track with the rollcage was actually 22kg heavier than the factory one with weissach package. So the factory one could possibly be as fast as the one on track. But i have to agree that it is a quite stupid car, which might only was produced just to beat Tesla.

    • @ignitionontheleft

Heavier sure, no way the factory representation unadjusted would be as fast.

In the same way that Plaid is was a dumb, unfinished, hastily built product made to desperately try beating Porsche?
News flash; Porsche doesn’t care about Tesla. Porsche has been building extreme track variants of its cars since forever, essentially. The 911, for example, has the GT3, GT3 RS, GT2, and GT2 RS. The Taycan now has the GTS and the Turbo GT.
