Fun Zandvoort fact: the second half of the old track has been turned into a golf course. If you visit there you can still see where the track used to be by the dunes on either side of the winding golf course.

Jack Brabham's V8 is a story all by itself. Using an Oldsmobile/rover production car engine block, it was extensively modified to accept dual overhead cams, a flat plane crankshaft, and was reduced in displacement ro fit the new for 1965 3 liter formula. It was highly successful before being edged out in power and development by the cosworth/Ford DFV. Quite the impressive bit of reading for any vintage racing enthusiast who might want a wonderful history lesson.
When GPLaps uploads a video it always makes me wanna jump in my sim and drive. I don’t get that desire from any other channels on YT. It’s definitely the content he likes. Thanks buddy!

Alas the limitations in the AI back then were pretty severe. He wasn't blocking, per se; the AI was simply following the primary race line that the track maker laid down, and had not been programmed to yield like it has been in many more recent sims. Typically this involves an interplay between the AI driver's Aggressiveness rating, how far back the overtaking car is, and its speed as compared to either the overtaking car or the AI's baseline speed. GPL had none of that 23 years ago, and yes it could get rather frustrating for a human driver as it seemingly weaves back and forth, frustrating passing attempts. Any AI developer needs to grasp the entire history of AI improvements like that across the entire history of sim racing to craft a successful one which is both "gentlemanly" and competitive.
thought zandvoort come with the base game? either way it is a great track to drive with many different era's of f1 cars especially the 1991 williams, the formula hybrid 21 or 22 & their lotus 79, as well as the gt3 cars available for ac.

This was I think my favourite circuit in the original GPL. I wondered if I'd ever get it right but when I did it was so satisfying. Really need to get your set ups right with a little bit of turn in oversteer to get the rotation. Memory tells me you almost imagine your way round the circuit barely using the steering wheel at all. (to turn the car I mean).
Man I miss this '66 season videos. I know you have other things to do in the channel, the Historic Road Championship is now underway, but I have to say: good to see the Rich Axelson adventures back! And what great result for him, second 2º place in a row.
Fantastic race, making up 11 places, 6 on the first lap! Amazing start. It would have been a podium for you even if Surtees hadn't had a car issue and lost a lot of pace as a result. Very lucky indeed not to have more damage from the contact with him.

The actual race in 1966, 20 days after my birth, saw four (1 future) World Champions in the top spots. About this frontrunner "Axelson" ? (I'm a Richard and ...-son, aka "Miles Behind"), could Richie earn some tulips at the 1975 Dutch Grand Prix ??? Starting in damp conditions, my first live GP had a formidable entry list ...,
Another great video. I suspect this race will be more exciting than this weekend's Dutch GP. Although it's always funny to see how Ferrari will screw up a race victory the bunch of clowns.
it does thanks to a bunch of patches and updates the community has made for it, if it didnt run on modern machinery you wouldnt be watching this video/series.

Wow grand prix legends still going strong! I bought the Sandevoerde (Zandvoort) track for AC and will try it with the new RSS F1 70 mod.

I got this game as a kid and couldn't keep the car on the road, no joystick, no wheel, good old keyboard, had no clue what a sim was. lol

Max was born in Belgium so has the benefit of 2 home GPS.

Tachometers were often rotated so that max RPM was straight up to see easily
