I was there at the Nordschleife as a seven year old when news came in about Rindt's crash at Monza, listening to the radio in my grandpa's Autobianchi sedan. All the adults were watching the track for the 36Hour race or whatever it was. The news I relayed was a bit of a shocker to the older crowd in 1970. The orange / yellow Ickenroth BMW 1602 was running first in class and managed to get out in front of a few P 911's holding onto 2nd overall until it retired an hour before the finish. I still ride fast at times and take chances. Racing GPL at your level looks pretty good. Steven Groves would approve. Good Memories...
This is - by far - my favourite Sim-Racing-Channel. The voice, the driving, the entertainment, the history lessons - I enjoy your passion so much. And as Race63 wrote - it is contagious, because you really got me invested into the history of motorsport, so that I'm not only started to recreate historic races on my own channel, but also use the time when not driving by reading every literature I can get my hands on. Thanks for being an persistent inspiration and all your amazing work here on YT!
Hot on the heels of the news that Ryan Axelson's career will continue through the 1990 Indycar season, Pop comes round and narrowly avoids another close encounter of the Ferrari kind for a well deserved result.
This was the race that John Frankenheimer filmed a bunch of for his film Grand Prix, only to be forced to turn all that footage over due to a contract conflict with Steve McQueen's rival F1 film (which never ended up being made).
huh, i always wondered why they completely glossed over the German Grand Prix in the movie. With the Nurnbergring being one of the most iconic tracks of all time it didn't make a lot of sense that they would shelf it completely.
GP Legends was ahead of its time. This was an amazing simulation long before decent wheels were out. I remember racing in a lotus cortina and the sounds through my Cambridge audio 5.1 speakers and bass… Now we are spoilt. But thanks to this and Geoff Crammond we have sims with a past. As a side note, I remember playing this with a friend and going round the Nurburgring-seeing him shoot off at a chicane , launch into the air and disappear. Only for me to round the corner and find him upside down on the track in front of me. I seriously was in tears of laughter. Brilliant driving and thanks for the nostalgia
Haha thank you! I appreciate the kind compliment, most of the time pronunciation just receives criticism and its silent when its 'good'. Its tough to pronounce things and make it sound authentic without it sounding like an impersonation or silly I studied some German in college and lived in Austria for 8 months, so German is a bit easier for me than others, but im sure i still have a heavy accent
I had this sim way way back just after my scgt days. I waited for the mod it felt for years from bhms. Racing this sim helped out a lot with my nascar sim phase getting the rear to rotate and letting the car decide where it wants to go. Good stuff sir.
A very stressful famous historic track that has plenty of landscape beauty. Those "classic F-1 auto racing days" had, in my opinion, had many of the best drivers who had nerves of steel to drive with the styles of cars that were literally my favorite cars. Jim Clark...my all-time # 1 favorite of all race drivers for 60 years (being this is 2023 and, I really became a fan of open-wheel auto racing in 1963 via the Indy 500 when I was nearing 13 years old). Great program with plenty of historic insights on those great years of F-1.
I wish I could get GPL to install and bring back happiness again. I downloaded all the necessary items but so far no luck. I'll keep plugging at it. I want to experience what this video shows. So awesome.
I recently bought a copy of Mike Lang's "Grand Prix! Race-byrace account of Formula 1 World Championship motor racing Volume 2 1966-1973. I already volume 1 and 3. This is good reading. Thanks for your races, good commentary and a pleasure to watch. Arigatou sensei.😉👋
I learned the Nurburgring, and the names of some of the corners (half of which I've forgotten), from GT5. It's cool to see the old version. It took a couple of laps to recognize parts of it, with the changed landscape, but I got locked in eventually. And it was cool to see the carousel with the tree still there and all by itself. What Jackie always said makes more sense now. Sadly, while I was born in 1965, it wasn't until GT5 in 2010 that I even learned of the Green Hell's existence. It's been love ever since. Good race. Didn't think I'd watch all of it, but it was worth it.
I loved this game back in the day, hard as hell even with a wheel and drifting was magical if you got it right. It would be nice to see this re-done especially in VR.
GPL!!!! Talk about great memories! Recently I've bought a new PC and found myself planning to install it back again since I still have my original CD and my Logitech G25 ( ...yes I'm a RFBraker) only to realize new PC has no CD player LOL!!!!!!
I never played this game and the physics looks crazy if you're used to these cars in AC, but it seems like massive amounts of fun to play. I doubt I'll ever install this game, but I love watching these videos!
Wow, first time I'm early. Love your content, hope to see you carry on your streams next year. Been hard to watch them live as I live in West Australia, but always good to watch them as a replay and chuckle at the chat the next morning. Keep up the good work
The Nürburgring was closed for some sort of driver training the day I visited, but Castle Nürburg itself was open for a couple of Euros. It's quite a grim place - a real castle, not a Disney castle like Neuschwanstein. A beautiful part of the world though.
@@GPLaps i can see this, but id day the indications were unfortunately here all along with the recent on and off downtime that the forum has heen experimenting since early to mid 2022, it seems that ebery time ive tried to access it in the passed year or so its been down
32:43 I remember watching a video of Jackie Stewart playing GPL where he mentioned that tree. I think he said the tree that they aimed for was missing. So, did they put the tree in or is this a modded track?
I did notice Rindt flipped over in his accident replay; as I understand it that was usually instant death for the drivers in those days, but he flipped right back onto his wheels. Should that be ruled a death for the sake of the story?
Well, Rindt's car did have a roll hoop behind the seat, and he did flip back onto his wheels very quickly, so in this story, he survived with whiplash and a concussion.
Hey, it feels so good to watch GP Laps races. This guy doesn't just drive he lives the race with a contagious passion.
Could be my words, mate.
well said!
Agree, only Sim racer I can watch. Even his hours long endurance videos I watch to the end.
The legend has returned
That's Right 😉👌

Amazing race. Nordschleife is never boring.
I am always fascinated how well the AI races in GPL

Great to see Richie back behind the wheel. Well raced Jake
Whose this Jake person? I think you'll find there's no one but Richie behind the wheel

Love watching these races!
Fun fact: Grand Prix Legends was the first racing video game to feature the Nurburgring.

Just as I was musing on what had happened to 6 series! Great timing. And terrific to see Richie back in action.

Great move passing Surtees and Brabham.....
Strong drive - very entertaining race and, typical Bandini luck. Looking forward to Monza, and the Weslake💪
Good stuff. Really puts into perspective how dangerous the circuits were, and with these cars.
Going to be highly interesting when AMS2 releases the historic ring.

F1 challenge 😍
@@TheJamesEarly What are you doing here...
@@TheJamesEarly Breaking news, James Early manages to write a yt comment without crashing
Of all the old sims, F1 challenge has aged the worst. The VB mod is very ambitious, but very inconsistent as well.
How could a tie be possible if Brabham wins 5 of 9 races and everyone keeps only 5 results?
It can't. The system was supposedly meant to keep the championship close but when someone wins most of the races they actually lock it up faster.
So ein Blödsinn 👎👎
