- In this free C4D plugin video we take a look at HOT4D. HOT4D is a plugin that generates an ocean surface on objects within Cinema 4D, we also look at the settings that control wind speed, wave height, and choppiness. We also look at the settings for generating foam.

I figured out how to create foam in R21. The trick is in how you create the Vertex Color Map. Here’s what worked for me,
1. Select your plane object
2. Make it editable by clicking "C".
3. Switch to points mode but DO NOT click on your plane to select any points
4. With your plane still selected in the objects panel, go to Tools > Paint Tool
5. Paint a small circle on your plane (it should paint a few points white) This will also create a Vertex Color Map tag on your plane
6. Double click the Vertex Color Tag and hit Apply All (This will turn all of the points on your plane white)
7. Click the Vertex Color Map Tag 1 time. and rename it Jacob.
8. Select Do Jacobian in Hot 4D
9. Drag the "Jacob" Vertex Color Tag to the Jminus Map field in Hot4D
10. Repeat these steps for the "Foam" Vertex Color Map. Remember to click off of the "Jacob" map first.

It's not working for me, I followed every step multiple times. It works perfectly using the xp ocean but not with hot4d

If anybody is still looking for a solution, I had it working by using the tag Vertex Color instead of doing the Vertex Weight thing. (after converting the object to editable [press C] selecting point mode and clicking on the plane, right click the plane >other tags > Vertex Color). Do it once for the Jminus and once for the Foam.
After that I just kept following the video and all went well. Just had to hit play or go to the middle of the timeline before messing with the material otherwise it seemed like nothing was happening.

Attention peeps! This plugin now works with C4D R21, but now uses the Vertex Color tag instead of a Vertex map.
Jminus and Foam map do not work in R21. Entire map color is red and no fractal. Point selection is working.

@@DIGITALMEAT I figured it out. In R21 you should use Vertex Color Tag RGB. In all the tutorials ppl are using Vertex Waight Map/Tag. I'm not sure if it is intended behavior or a bug...

For anyone who wants to use this with R21 and up and is getting lost with the Foam section don't worry here is it step by step.
1. Instead of going to Select/Vertex Map, hover over the object (make sure it is already converted to Editable PLUS make sure you are in point mode).
2. Go to the plane and Right-Click on the plane and find "OTHER TAGS" *they are alphabetical so it is right after MoGraph tags*
3. Choose "Vertex Color" you will want two of these (instead of two vertex maps). *Click on the Vertex Color once to get the Name section and rename to what you desire - I used J + F for each of them.
4. Then drag these two Vertex Colors into the Hot 4D Foam Group parameters (like the video but now we use Vertex Color not the maps). Make sure you turn on the "Do Jacobian" and you are good to go!

Hi there! I installed HOT4D in C4D 21. But some selections are different on the video. For the "time" adjustment, It have 2 selections are called "Time Scale" & "Time Loop Frame". It doesn't have a selection is called "Time". I also try to adjust these selections, it doesn't make the ocean slow. what should I adjust? Thanks!

where I’d record one track of the soft and than use a second Edison to record scrubbing through the soft to mimic a wave table.

I haven't seen the Reflection channel for so long I can't even remember what it looks like lolol. Maybe check out some early GSG tutorials, I know nick used it a lot in those early tutorials
it to multi-track record. I would play with an effect or two on my recordings, but I never touched the soft role or the step sequencer.

anybody why when i loop a soft, at the end of my loop, my soft starts a half a soft early or late. makes it super frustrating
how do you get the reflections in your viewport? when i create the Beckmann material and throw it on, i can´t see the reflections. thank for the tutorial.

Do you mean you don't the Vertex Shader as an option to load into the texture slot? If so, what version of C4D are you using? Studio? Broadcast? etc...

How do you tweak this so it works on R21? I've seen comments about using Vertex Color, but when I use the Vertex Color tag by right clicking Other tags on my Plane.1 twice, it generates it, but when I drag it into the Jminus and Foam map boxes, nothing changes.

What are the differences from the regural and the free trial one
Something must have changed regarding the foam functionality and R21. I've taken several tutorials in an attempt to get the foam working, and no matter what I try, after applying the vertex map I just see red. The part where you can see the wavy red/white patterns doesn't happen for me. I've turned on the foam, added both vertex maps, etc.
I'm surprised it works in R21 at all to be honest, I don't think it's been updated for R21
The R21 version uses Vertex Color tag instead of Vertex map for the foam. It works perfectly.
