- In this video I go over cloth dynamics in Cinema 4d. This feature was updated in the previous version. The most common properties are shown along with how to make a flag and how to make curtains utilizing the cloth tag, collider tag, and cloth belt tag.
i love that you put in two examples that you know we're all looking for!! Best c4d tutorials, thank you!!
Glad you liked the video!
Lifesaving explanation! Thx A LOT!
You are very welcome!
Really enjoy your tutorials, tips, and dives. A friend shared your Pyro overview. Two 👍👍 Left Thumbs Up.
Thanks!
You saved my day... probably my weekend!
Thank you so much!!! it helps a lot !!! very easy to understand for the rookie me LOL
this tutorial is wonderful...really thanks!
Thank you great tutorial
Glad you like it!
Nice content!!
Thank you!
Huge work! Very useful, thanks!
Thank you!
the tablecloth looks great!
Thanks! I should have done the magic trick where you pull the table cloth with a bunch of stuff on it and nothing falls off.
@@BTB3D that would be cool to see!
It would be great if you covered Mix animation in another video. I can't find any good documentation on it.
Brilliant tutorial. Thanks.
want to CNC a wood piece to have the feeling of cloth. So the wrinkles and golds have to be contained within a given height. Say a 600 x 600 x 30mm thickness. How would one go about that?
Thank you! I'm finding the cloth is always more bouncy and stretchy than looks natural even with the settings for both at zero and target length turned down, but maybe something will come to light going forward.
The number of segments/edges also affects that stuff.
@@BTB3D Ah! I see! Thank you!
@@BTB3D This info is gold!! I was having a hard time trying to understand why so stretchy when values were 0, reducing polygons was the key to fix it. THX!!
Thank you for the awesome tutorial!! I have a question.. can I also control the drop speed? I want to make cloth drop slowly..
Maybe if you turn the gravity down?
Hi, Thanx for the great Tutorial - is there any way to retime the simulation, like playing it backwards?
If you export it as an alembic file, then import the alembic file I think you can.
Hi There, Thanks for making the tutorials, they are very helpful. I was wondering if you know the fix which relates to placing logos/stacking textures, I have created flags and used stacking textures to place a logo, I am finding that the logo disappears as the wind folds the cloth/flag. I tried also stick texture and all modes of projection, nothing seems to work. I should say I am using Redshift and C4d2023.01 version. Do you have any solution to this problem please. (I know that I can use old way of placing textures in Redshift, the technique is very time consuming). Any help is appreciated.
Its because the texture is being projected on to the geometry instead of using UVW coordinates. Delete any UVW coordinate tags, right click on your base texture and choose genrate uvw coordinates. For your stacked texture, you will need to switch the projection to UVW mapping.
Thanks very much. I can not generate any UVW coordinate tags as the object is still parametric, when I select the base tag or any other stacking texture tag the Generate UVW option is grayed out. What Am I missing here. Man thanks
@@zakperic any reason you can’t just make the object editable?
Thanks for the tutorials. Don't want to take too much of your time, but I have an ongoing issue caching the cloth simulation. It will cache all the frames the first 10-15 attempts, but then only about 1/4 of the frames then, the cloth object just disappears. At that point I cannot fix the problem unless starting a new project and remaking the scene. Using a Quadro M4000 with 64GB of ram. Any suggestions?
I have a curtain blowing in the wind, which is located right next to a wall with a window. I have the cloth tag attached to the curtain object, and the collider tag attached to everything else (wall and window). However, I'm still having an issue where the curtain is going through the wall and the window as the curtain billows in the air. Why is this happening, and how would you resolve this? Thanks in advance for you help!
I would check the polygon normals, make sure the collider tag is applied to geometry (not a null or generator), and try changing the Collider Side property to both.
With the cloth draping over the cube, I noticed the cube’s corners peeking out through the cloth. What settings do you have to tweak to correct that?
It is mainly caused by there not being enough polygons to bend over such a hard corner. The solution is to add more polygons (not ideal), raise up the cloth just a touch, or add thickness to cover it up.
@@BTB3D Thanks, and great video!
thank you for the question and to channel author for the answer! really helped a lot!
Nearly 20 years later and C4D is still only doing table cloths, flags and Window curtains.
while kiddie toy apps like Daz & poser are solving cloth on moving characters for the last decade.
I mean your comparing specialized apps to a general purpose app. How do those programs handle modeling? mograph?
@@BTB3D There truly is nothing “specialized” about solving cloth on a moving Character in late 2023.
at $3500 USD, C4D should have this ability by now without having to buy yet another external $sub$ from Insydium.
@@Animotions01 Very few programs do it all. Even Houdini, which can do cloth, liquids, smoke, fire, and other simulations isn't great at modeling. Plus with a subscription C4d isn't any where close to $3500.
@@BTB3D I used Maxon C4D from RDXL7 up to R21.
I now use Blender.
Houdini is a specialized Film VFX application.
Blender has far better modeling/sculpting tools
and still exceeds C4D for Character work including
clothing simulation.
as does Maya and Max
Maxon should be embarrassed at the state of their
Cloth and Character/animation options in todays competitive market.
@@Animotions01 If you think watching a beginners video on cloth shows its full functionality you are mistaken.
thanks👍👍👍
I mis Hypernurbs Command in Cinema 4D 2032 , can you help?!!
Its in the same place. Its just called Subdivision Surface now.
Thank you
how do you set initial state and then rewind the simulation backwards?
You have to set initial state first, then cache it.
I cant find initial state in c4d 2023 😢
@@nguyenquyen4792 Its in the same spot. In the dresser tab of a cloth tag
@@BTB3D thank you so muchhhh!
you go into zero detail on the curtains which are already set up, what is the poInt of this? How can we learn from this?
I literally explain it at 19:40.
the old version was better for flag
I haven't seen too much of a difference.
