I actually love hearing what Twitter thinks when they're mad it's the best content
And that's what gets them the most angry, if the game flopped and they got their victory, there wouldn't be much more heard about it unless they wanted to use palworld as an example compared to something else they hate.
But it is just that fact that they've been trying to rip at the game, and no one is listening to them that they are getting even more angry than usual about not being able to stomp out the little developer that made something better than their "magnum opus" pokemon
This exactly! It enrages so many people that a game they deem as undeserving of the success it has gotten, is allowed to continue to grow, despite their efforts going largely unrecognized, just makes them all the more mad.
I hate saying “they’re jealous”, but I mean…how many of these people would be complaining if they were behind the project, and they themselves now given financially freedom the likes of which small devs can only dream of.

I am a diehard Pokemon fan and I think it's kind of humorous that Palworld ripped a lot of designs, it's nothing new though. But this game looks objectively fun and I hope you guys are having a blast. The best part of this is that it is competition to a monopoly. And if it's affecting their wallets, then Pokemon may be less likely to get away with making braindead, soulless, unfinished games.
In sincerity though! Like, I obviously love the majority of Poke’s designs more, they’re childhood icons, so I’d love for the Arceus series to maybe step things up to compete, and ultimately be capable of pushing the genre further for everyone!
But that would come with a level of admittance of defeat, and idk of Game Freak / Nintendo have that in them. Nobody’s directly competed with them like that since SEGA in the 80s-90s, so…we live in interesting times, that’s for sure haha

This is the correct opinion. Pokemon needs/needed someone to do Pokemon better than them so that they make even better Pokemons. Pokemonses. Pokemen.
My one gripe with the baby's first unreal engine project thing is that those Unreal Engine 5 videos by RwanLink are absolutely top tier in terms of genuine effort put in, he's not just taking a Link model and plopping him into that one fields demo project, everything is meticulously crafted and looks absolutely amazing.
No notes for the rest of the video. Great content.

I watched his Unreal video and DEAR GOD what an immense talent! Definitely doesn’t fit next to the other videos, even if the Sonic guy also did eventually get hired for Frontiers ^^

It's ironic that Pokémon did not coin the monster capture and fighting genre, nor their monster art style. Both were inspired by games that came before. Much like Apple does, Pokémon took something that already existed, improved on it, renamed it and claimed it as their own innovation.
Then when someone else does the same thing, much like the Apple fanatics, Pokémon fanatics squeal and ree about theft and plagiarism. Meanwhile I sit back with my popcorn watching and laughing.
to be fair the creature catcher games go back further than Pokemon it did borrow/lift the tiered ball system tho
That’s true! Nothing under the sun is THAT new and creative, but when you look at design iconography, the tiered balls, you can kinda assume…yeah they might just be lifting Pokémon as inspiration pretty wholesale, but you are correct! If anything, they popularized monster collecting in the style Palworld lifts, for the entire planet, vs Japan exclusively ^^

first off, the devs put palworld through a japanese system designed to check copyright. like they had experts check the game to ensure it did not violate copyright law, which, in japan, is actually far more strict then the US. it passed that test.
second off, steam requires games to disclose the use of AI in development. and palworld does not have this disclosure.
so either...
palworld has somehow managed to completely fool the whole japanese legal system, including the lawyers at nintendo itself, and the biggest game platform in the entire world.
or it isn't violating copyright law, and didnt use AI.
now im sure its easy enough to tell which of those is more likely.
There’s just too many hoops for this game to have jumped for these self appointed Twitter lawyers to have figured out without any degree of understanding of how Japanese law works.
That isn’t to say Nintendo isn’t frantically looking into an angle to sue, and I’m sure they’ll try in some capacity, but the amount of people looking for reasons to say “This game is a rip off art wise, and if someone ripped me off, I’d be mad too”

Think I pretty much agree with your closing arguments here. Not an expert by any means on the game (I’ve only seen the clips on Twitter lol), but it seems like a game with a decent amount of innovation; and much of it sounds like a direct parody of the Pokémon world anyway.
There’s not really a case here unless any of the more serious allegations of using AI and directly copying assets were to be proven; which is unlikely.
It looks like a janky but fun game to me!

It does a remarkable job justifying the monster catching in a way Nintendo has seemingly always left blank.
As I’ve gotten older, compelling gameplay and logical loops really keep me gaming the longest, and being able to utilize, fuse, level up the Pals in order to better assist in your efforts in catching better, stronger, and more diverse Pals is just genius.
If we were all laughing at Nintendo, people would buy it and forget it. But everyone I know ADORES the game, myself included!

nintendo came out o ntwitter and said we arent investigating XD they are going after a modder who legit just took pokemon into the game
With how quick they shut it down too, you KNOW they are watching the project, but can't do a whole lot legally because of how different it ultimately is from their own series of games. Lord knows they'll try, but it remains to be seen if they'd even publicly try!

...they do realize people can use other pieces of art as a reference and make changes WITHOUT AI, right? I've noticed two types of people in this argument of Palworld: furries and fakemon creators. I think most of this is from a place of inner hatred.
Yeah the default to “It’s using AI” is a way to legally condemn them. We’ve seen hand drawn fan art for years, as if AI would be the only way to go about doing something like this.
Inner hatred tends to be where I land a lot logically. Like, it’s just not that big a deal, and if half these creators just kept creating, maybe they’d get more chances to have their own Palworld.
But no, let’s complain on Twitter lol

Look I don’t hate the game because it seems just fine. I dislike the main developer for his transphobic stance and views.
I haven’t seen much in regard to transphobia from any developers, but that’s simply because I think my TL focus changed away from Palworld when I stopped engaging with the mostly negative posts 😅
The developers are predominantly Japanese, and if I spent any time scrutinizing the aspects of daily Japanese culture I find reprehensible, I’d just not sleep lmao
It’s a shame if they share those close minded ass perspectives, but Japanese culture is a tough nut to crack when it’s not even mine to do the cracking with.
Well within your right to not engage with it if that’s your rationale though!
That said, I think it’s safe to admit that this game was doomed to be a beacon of hate the minute it succeeded, and I wouldn’t doubt this is a fact that’s been brought to light from a dedicated group of die hards digging real deep to “destroy their enemy”.
An action which, fair. But also indicative of my point in this video. The game features a bad faith art style that steals design iconography from real artists, and those who find that reprehensible, will stop at nothing to find reasons for their work to be invalidated.
