    This is my first time making a ZERO script video. I will ramble, I will stumble, and I will make mistakes!
    Spider-Man 2 was doomed to corporate greed. While an excellent game all around, it's undeniable...we've seen this game before...but I wonder where?

      I think it gave us too much context for a game that could have felt like a MAJOR step up from the original PS4 game, ya know? Too much of a good thing, gives you cavities and such lol

    ik this would've been hard to implement, but i feel like more venom parts and an ai of venom actually going throughout the map and catching you at some points causing a scrap session would've really helped with the story. as good as the story was, for me, it started lacking when kraven died, and when we got venom, we should've gotten more of em, like the scene of them fighting in the street, if we had something like that and they really made venom feel like a looming threat the heroes don't know how to face, would've made for a far more engaging narrative

    • @arkyUS_YT
      @arkyUS_YT  7 місяців тому +3

      DUDE! Venom hunting you down while you swung around as a non-story mechanic while he's around would be CRAZY! That sort of change alone, would help sell the differentiation between the games single handedly! Great call :D

    Interesting, though I just still think there was at least one game in every category that did it better than Spiderman. Imagine if we actually got Venom, but no lets have MJ be a character. Truly one of the best examples of devs prioritising their own opinions and feelings instead of making a good game, which is a shame in this case since Spiderman already is good in other parts of the game.

    • @arkyUS_YT
      @arkyUS_YT  7 місяців тому +3

      If they were so inclined to do MJ sections, I wish they'd worked towards making her feel like she had more purpose in the flow of gameplay, you know? I wouldn't know how they could do it, but thus far I haven't enjoyed her game sections across all titles.
      I imagine a Spider-Verse type game would give the representation they're after with Gwen, and not feel so hamfisted and boring.
      As for games it could have beaten out...I could argue Sound Design over Forza, or Best Sound Design over Hi-Fi Rush. But even then, I'm glad Hi-Fi got an award, it was an enjoyable little game haha
      Thanks for the comment! :)

    I had the same feelings about Re4 & a lot of the Re fanbase was very disappointed it took what was great about the original game in 2005 and reamagined the game the plot lines were fixed, the game was made to challenge players more & be more of a horror experience the graphics were greatly upgraded the Dlc wasn't just a copy paste of the base game it actually told its own story & was its own experience & it was all around a perfect remake for me if it wasn't for Baldurs Gate 3 Residents Evil 4 Remake would be Goty

      Hey there Cenan!
      Gosh, I want to make a video about how I feel regarding the theme and style of modern Resident Evil, because…while I think they’re extremely functional and play well from RE2 remake to RE4, I can’t help but feel…an aire of like…generic hyper modernism layered over the top of it all? Like the menus being simple and sterile somehow kinda translates to the game itself a little, philosophy wise?
      It’d need to be a scripted video, and I’d need to really stew on it, but I know EXACTLY what you mean.

    I think this argument makes a lot of sense - I haven't played the Spider-Man games myself (Xbox 4 Life) but I've seen more than enough gameplay about them and they really do just kinda feel largely the same just with your average technical improvements. Which, in it's own way, is fine! There's not necessarily a need to reinvent the wheel when you've already perfected it, but the fact these just came out BAM, BAM, BAM very likely contributed to the attitude and reception as far as critics go.
    WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID ;) I'm not sure it matters if this game got GOTY or not tbh. In it's own way, being similar to it's predecessors is not a bad thing when the formula WORKS. I think there's reward in being a "safe, comfortable" game that you know people will respond positively to.
    In the words of Bill Nye: "You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be good enough."
    P.S. - very well edited, I'm sure the process was a breeze and didn't require tons of redos :p

      Definitely so! It’s okay for a game to be lightly iterative, rather than always reaching for complete renovation! I think this game could have done with a smidge more identity work to differentiate, but knowing how big a franchise this is, I imagine Marvel just wanted something that worked and would sell.
      Insomniac is a pretty CRAZY company conceptually, so I imagine they could have gone nuts, but were directed to not branch too outside expectations. Too big a brand to play with, ya know?
      Thanks for the comment again, and happy new year Pks :3

    The “Be Greater” insert SENT ME lmao!
    I agree across the board! If you’re making a follow up, and feel compelled to take features or mechanics away from prior entries, and not meaningful provide substitution, it’s hard to call the game anything more than a sequel in name only.
    The story was mostly enjoyable, and the speed/graphics enhancements are a blast! But when you boil it down, and compare to the pedigree of games that came out this year, I’m just not the least bit surprised it couldn’t come away with much :/
    Ultimately it’s a very well made game, that Insomniac should be proud of making, and anyone who enjoys it is validated in doing so purely by the fact they enjoyed it!
    But when it comes to a national stage where we recognize innovation…it’s hard to say this one is an innovator, more than an iterator.
    Thanks a bunch for your comment dude, and for checking the video out! Hope you have a happy new year :) 🎉😊

    I never thought that SM:MM would've added to the fatigue, but it makes sense. I also don't think it helps that SM2 lacked several features from the other games. New Game +, mission replay, suit powers, changeable time of day, repeatable stealth, combat & traversal challenges, character bios, the social feed, and the list goes on. Some are bigger exclusions than others, but their absence makes the game feel less full. Especially after you complete the main story. The endgame is pretty much nonexistent. An issue from last games that I hoped would be fixed here. But all that's left is side quests, collectibles, and endless crimes. All that, coupled with SM2's overall lack of meaningful innovation outside combat & exploration, explains why it didn't do well at the awards. Overall I think SM2 is a good game but it needed a little more time in the oven to "be greater" ;) Enjoyed the video my man!👍

    Cannot hammer the point home enough that a game that has a tie in that released in the same console generation wasn't going to beat a game that the previous iteration hadn't been released since the xbox 360, being Alan Wake 2, or another game where the previous main series iteration was released before xbox even existed, being Baldur's gate 3. Also having to contend with being an exclusive title vs games that are cross platform. It's an uphill battle that the most notable ones to have beaten that being God of War and the Last of Us 2. Which brings me back to my point with the fact those two games were sequels to ps3 games. Just too much for it to overcome in it's own way
    overall great video and great points being made

    • @arkyUS_YT
      @arkyUS_YT  7 місяців тому

      Excellent point actually regarding to generation waits for new titles! Having Miles exist on the same platform as a numbered sequel, was bound to reduce excitement for a game that felt like a 1.75 game to begin with, rather than a proper 2nd.

    I couldn't see this game winning any awards over the other games. I could have seen Yuri winning voice actor award, but I think his performance was shining more in the first game. On top of that, I believe Neil and Ben both did better in their respective roles anyway.
    Sad but yeah, Spider-Man didn't stand a second chance.

    Spoderman! I think another aspect of why spider-man 2 didn't win is because of its PS5 exclusivity. Now with PS titles making their way to PC after a certain timeframe, more people get the chance to play the game or will even wait for the PC release. So SM2 being exclusive gave it a smaller pool for people to access. We don't see this same attention to Xbox exclusives because they launch on PC in tandem with console release, reaching a larger audience

    I think the problem with Spider-Man Games is that they pretend to be open world games but they are not. Dont get me wrong. They are GREAT story games with an amazing traversal system, but the side missions that fill the city are mostly just a glorified busy work with little to no impact to the main story or the overall gameplay loop. People who prefer the story will be bored by the open world elements that are sometimes gatekeeping the main story progress, while open world fans will not find enough to keep them entertained.

    really ...spiderman would have had any chance in any other year?
    Isnt spiderman like the most generic boring mid excuse of a game everytime a new one rolls out?
    I think even the marvels guardians of the galaxy was better and more innovative to be honest.
    I see spiderman as the assassins greed of sony. no risk, no innovation, you know exactly what you will get.

    • @arkyUS_YT
      @arkyUS_YT  7 місяців тому

      I think that’s completely fair! The strength of spider man, in my eyes, is the gameplay itself. It takes the best of the Arkham games, and fuses it with some of the funnest most satisfying traversal mechanics of all time.
      As someone who doesn’t really like Marvel too much myself, I’m still always taken aback by how fun swinging around and fighting/building combos can be!
      You’re dead on with Guardians being a hidden gem tho 😊
      Thanks for sharing your perspective though! I think “every time a new one rolls out” is actually my issue! This should have been “the second one”, and not “another one”.

    I watched maybe 30 minutes of the game awards, and I'll tell you why. I knew Starfield was gonna not win a damn thing! No, really it wasn't that. In fact as much as I love Starfield, I don't think it deserved to win anything. While I'll agree, it was very polished, it was still a turd. Lots of game breaking bugs. I lost 80 hours when my save data on my first character was lost. I have a rock I lovingly named Henry that follows my ships. Parts of New Atlantis have disapeared. Quests in Akila City are glitched and if I do any of them, I could be stuck there...forever! Once these bugs are fixed and modders are able to do their thing, if Starfield can hold their interest that long, I think the game will be awesome! The real reason I didn't watch the game awards was BG3. I knew it would take a shit ton of awards. Everyone loved the game, and it was unstopable this year. It deserved it too from the game play I've seen. When it's fixed on XBox and saves stop disappearing, I want to play it too.I don't think RE4 Remake, or most of the Nintendo titles deserved to be in the GOTY mix either. I think, like that manager of ESports team that was added to their catagory, they were fillers. No, I don't think Spider-Man 2 deserved game of the year. It wasn't inventive enough.
