    Quick tip:
    For aligning the steering wheel, if the shafts just happen to not allow the wheel to be flat (at 1:20), you can pop off the L-shaped front piece (at 1:40) and adjust the small gear on top until it's all correct.
    This happened to me when I put my GT3 together. I had put on the steering wheel and it just didn't line up correctly, and for a minute, I was afraid I'd have to dismantle everything to get it aligned.

    • @ben4627-p8o
      @ben4627-p8o 6 років тому +3

      HYPE YT Ummm, no... If you love cars SO much you would realise that a camshaft is used to control the timing and the linear movement of the valves in the engine. A crankshaft refers to the shaft in the engine which converts the linear movement in the cylinders into a rotational movement so that the car can, well, move. Also, who gives a single shit if you are 9, I'm 13 but that is completely irrelevant. I imagine you only put that because you believe that you have superior knowledge to others and want to further your "aura of superiority" by stating your age. The actual effect of this, though, is the ability to make you look like an uneducated, ignorant twat.

    One pays for the time and thought that goes into solving a very complicated challenge. ln addition, one gets to experience the process of re- creating the design. However the bonus is one has the opportunity to improve it, or actually create something entirely innovative because of the immersive experience. Looking forward to doing the latter.

    firing on each cylinder is correct. when both pistons are going up one has compression stroke while the other is going to have exhaust stroke

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  7 років тому

      Thanks for the correction, that makes sense. But it definitely doesn't fire the 6 pistons in the correct order since adjacent pistons are connected to the camshaft at 180 degrees?

    • @Aleksander9003
      @Aleksander9003 7 років тому

      No i doesnt fire in that order and boxer engine looks completely different too. Left and right cylinders are slighty offside as con rods are placed in different order so they dont interact with each other

    • @NuScorpii
      @NuScorpii 7 років тому +8

      The Lego engine isn't correct. The Lego model has a flat V and Porsche use a boxer design. Each pair of pistons should travel in opposite directions to each other and each pair offset by 120° to the next pair. In the Lego model each pair use the same crank pin so pistons move in the same direction, and the offset between pairs is 180° as Lego doesn't allow 120° only multiples of 90°.

    To determine gear ratios, you can count the teeth. A 24-tooth gear will rotate an 8-tooth gear at a ratio of 24:8 = 3:1. A 12-tooth gear will turn a 20-tooth gear at 3:5.

    Thank you for a lovely, well prepared, clearly explained video. I am in the process of saving to enable me to buy this set. I have the Bugatti Chiron and Lamborghini Sian.
    I have a better idea of this set, thanks for your explanation. I am really looking forward to get this set and build it.
    I am an experienced Lego builder, however after looking at your video, I know that I am in for quite a challenge.
    One sad aspect of this build is that one ends up covering all that drive train, gears with the car body. Once completed, one is not able to see how all these gears function as all is covered by the car body. Thanks once again for a super video.

  • @BarracksSi
    @BarracksSi 7 років тому +2

    And the white gear at 9:55? I don't think it's supposed to represent the clutch (the actual PDK has dual clutches), although it contains a clutch of sorts -- it's always able to slip.
    (spoiler alert -- heh -- for those who haven't built the kit, this white "gear" is toothed on the outside, and has a gray piece to hold a standard black shaft -- but the white exterior can turn independently of the gray part. You can mount this gear on a shaft, hold the shaft stationary, and still turn the gear, but it requires some force to overcome internal friction.
    I'll bet it's there to absorb driveline shock. If something wasn't right in the 4-speed portion and it didn't turn, and you rolled the car along the floor, this white gear would simply slip. If it were solid instead, the entire transmission would try to twist itself apart.
    It's a very tricky little part. I'd love to disassemble that white gear and see how Lego did it.

    I wish I had stopped building after the first module and did some troubleshooting, because after I finished all 4 modules, there is this weird clicking sound when it is in drive or reverse. Also, the gears do not change shifts when I pull on either one. I think I may have misaligned the yellow fidget spinner looking pieces or I did not attach something somewhere. It's gonna be a headache pulling the whole thing apart and starting from step one.

      If you build it exactly as the instructions, the 4 gear shift does not go from lowest gear to highest gear and is mixed up instead. You have to make a slight mod to make it go from 1-2-3-4.

    My thing is that after I built the car, I cannot really experience how it works. I mean that it makes no difference in moving the car if 1 or 4 gear is engaged. Or I can turn the rear gear and move the car towards. It is a bit strange.

    • @BeatTheBush

    The white gear is a safety for if you include a motor. It disengages the teeth from the rod in the middle, preventing the motor from getting blocked, damaging it.

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  7 років тому +1

      The white gear seems to be a solid piece perhaps I have to take another look at it. Why would they include a part that they might need? They do not include this set with a motor nor as an add on.

    • @thomasbezencon2121

      BeatTheBush I might be wrong. But I have the idea lego makes more and more prefab parts just to lower production cost. Just look at the "connectors" between the rods in your porsche. (yellow and red). Or the top part of the engine. It does look more realistic though.

      Ahh, thanks for spelling out the actual gear ratio. I was just estimating with my eye ball.

  • @kazn10
    @kazn10 7 років тому

    6:20 you build it slightly wrong. In the book the black cogwheel is in the back.
    Look to the yellow connection. After that the grey compound you have the grey cogwheel instead the black on first
    7:26 you could say this grey gear is the double clutch gear from the real GT3 RS. that's why there are 2 of them. When you put from 1st to 2nd gear, 1st red cogwheel gets disconnected, at the same time the second gear goes in.
    Still cool technique in this thing.
    11:07 it's the same on mine.

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  7 років тому +1

      6:20 you are right! I had to go back and fix this. I guess the manual was correct after all.
      7:26 I agree. It's pretty neat to see how that works in lego form. I haven't seen it in the real GT3 RS part before but maybe UA-cam has that somewhere.
      11:07 Yah, another comment reported the same thing so I guess it was hidden behind the model in most views in the manual that they might have missed it.

If you spin the crank, the resistance in the drivetrain clearly feels like the gears when shifted straight through are 1,3,2,4 if you build to Lego's instructions. Which would lead to your engine literally exploding from over revving real life

    I've just built this set -- and it is astounding! However, when I go up or down to the 3rd gear, it makes this tick tick noise and the vehicle gets pretty hard to drive. It also makes the piston move very slowly -- slower than the 1st gear when it is meant to be faster! Please, if anyone has any idea to fix this, PLEASE let me know ASAP

      @BeatTheBush  6 років тому

      You need to take a closer look at how the gears are put together. Mine had a problem too assembled the way the manual says. I had to do slight modifications to make 1-4 go in order.

      If you have the intention of selling it after you are done. Or if you buy it used to begin with, you can save a lot of money.

      BeatTheBush what do you mean?

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  6 років тому

      Sell it after means you get most your money back. So it only costs you $50-100 for playing with it. Buy it used, it is cheaper.

      BeatTheBush the difference between a V180° and a boxer ist that on an V180 two pistons are mounted on one crankpin where in a boxer each piston has its own crankpin

      RISCy27 What is ridiculous is that I actually spend 5 minutes looking up the real engine to see what it really is. It's the oil filter. In the real GT3 RS engine, it's slightly offset to the left but in the Lego, it is dead center.
