yeah this bugged me too, L4D2's stock deagle is in fact a quite realistic depiction of how the gun appears in real life. if you look up videos of someone holding and shooting one, it's comically oversized and does look like a toy. it's also extremely impractical, pretty much never used in any real law enforcement or military application, and most people own it because it's *that* gun (and because having a pistol that shoots .50 cal bullets is pretty neat to most gun people). however, most games scale it down since making it look normal sized and without the insane recoil works better i guess.
The DE isn't that large. It's a freakishly large handgun but it's still a handgun. The one in-game is probably one and a half times the size of the real thing. @@dotdash
It annoys me that noone is bringing up Querentin's L4D1+2 remix animations. They literarily make it look like it should in vanilla game with L4D1 view model position and walking animations, while keeping good reload animations from L4D2. It makes the animations smooth, fixes stupid CSS animations on MP5 and SG556, giving them ones that fit from L4D2 ones like miliary rifles/HK G3's animations to Mp5 and AK tones to SG556 with it being fixed to match real life versions unlike CS Source models.
@@102ndsmirnov7 L4D1+2 remix makes it proper, its not too small and not to large. Its mostly down to idiotic Call of Duty viewmodel positioning in L4D2. That mod family fixes it for every single weapon except for AWP and Scout. Its making it as polished as L4D1 was.

For a 15 year old game, L4D2 is phenomenal, and looking at how Back4Blood is severely lacking in attention to detail (gameplay wise), I don't think it's unfair to say that Valve truly went ham on L4D2.
I'm going to be honest, that mod that keeps you in first person, specifically for healing and the hunter, is making me feel sick. But staying in first person when getting stumbled is an actual good change. Besides that, I think most of these mods are great.
The mod itself oftentimes break so when you get knocked down by a charger or a hunter and somebody saves you as quick as possible, the camera breaks where funnily enough, the camera would instead end up looking like a unrecord type "bodycam"

the best way to play L4D is with no bots, no teammates, & a mod that replaces special infected spawns with small hordes L4D is an amazing coop arcade shooter, but when you remove the coop and the arcade it turns into something else entirely. it turns out that a lot of what removes the tactical feeling L4D could have is that you aren't focused on the normal enemies bc ur keeping an eye out for the specials who are the real threat and allowing your teammates to mop up the normals -- so it doesnt matter if you walk into a room & theres 2 enemies in the corner in your blind spot bc zoey or ellis will get them for you & ur looking out for smokers anyway. if you remove all of that except the normal zombies, it does turn highly tactical -- you have to kill 100% of the zombies yourself and getting hit in the back is the easiest way to lose a run bc nobody will clear your back for you while you hold the horde off so you wind up playing the game much more closely to the way you'd play a SWAT game, except also sometimes you have to run screaming away from the horde while firing an M60 into the crowd also pairs well with this setup; 100% accuracy pistols, replacing the deagle with a revolver that can fire as quickly as you can pull the trigger but only has 6 shots, locked to walking speed (which you already mentioned), no slowdown when hit by zombies, an extra slot for melee weapons, being able to put shotguns in your secondary slot, the ability to self revive if you dont get hit while picking yourself up, infinite ammo piles replaced with the finite ammo deployable pickup, ammo deployables get their own equip slot, & the campaign resets if you die you've never felt anything worse in your life than opening the door of the last safehouse in the campaign and hearing the horde stinger, and then hearing it go off again 2 more times in the space of a second and realizing you're about to have a very bad time
@@neattricks7678why should he? I dont know what the fuck a desert eagle looks like and I also think it looks freakishly large compared to games like csgo
this looks pretty good, although i am curious as to what it'd look like with lower saturation because i think the high saturation takes away from the gritty look.
The thing that annoys me the most about “”””””””””””rEaLiSm””””””” videos is that they never actually are about realism and instead just making everything overly tactical and militaristic.IMO I would have rather had a true realism experience and just try to ground the existing cast and weapons without over complicating things.(Not trying to degrade anyone)
and also, the skybox changes and the reflection changes aren't realistic at all. it's as if this guy hasn't been outside for months and thinks the sky looks as picturesque as aurora borealis. the clouds look very cartoonish - they're literally a gas in real life, not a solid shape. and no, concrete and brick walls do NOT visibly reflect objects
"I don't really think any of the guns are necessarily unrealistic, besides maybe the Desert Eagle that's big as hell for no reason." I mean, that's a pretty accurate description of that nearly-five-pounds-when-loaded hunk of a pistol that is the Desert Eagle. 😅
Thats because desert eagle in csgo has different view model and camera position thats why it looks small.Thats why even the shots gun looks small in csgo.
@@JackHollick-l6j Whether it be .50 Action Express or .44 Magnum, the Desert Eagle remains a BEAST. In fact, there isn't a huge size difference if you use the same barrel length, as far as I know ? But you would be correct in assuming the game's DE uses .44 Mag, considering the ammunition's abundance in-game (essentially limitless), which wouldn't be nearly as credible with .50AE, lol.
''I made L4D as realistic as possible'' - the guy who added magical skyboxes and added saturation to oblivion and beyond Yeah when the foundation is rotten my dude, the rest doesn't matter
My favorite L4D2 realism mods are the ones that turn all of the graffiti in the game into Jaden Smith's weirdass twitter posts, and another one that makes the hunters scream SHIA SURPRISE! every time they jump. It's very atmospheric having to ponder what our eyes are while Shia Lebeouff is getting on all fours and breaking into a sprint behind me.
This just helped me realize how much I don't care about realistic game graphics. As cool as all of this is, it doesn't change the game in any meaningful way, it is the same game, perhaps with some of the artstyle ruined. Reminds me of how some new games look amazing but aren't all too fun. I don't know how many people are happy doing this, but I can personally play games on low settings fine. Even l4d2 I can play happy on low and after some time I won't even remember what the settings are at. I feel like people who care this much about graphics are the same to always play games with an fps counter shown, obsessing over the performance. But we really should care less about graphics, care less about staring at an fps counter, and just enjoy the game. Let yourself be lost in the game for hours on end.
haha I feel called out with the fps counter. I know what you're getting at though and mostly agree. I'd also say what passes as realism to most is laughable, it's just military esq chic and heavily saturated filters.
Graphics matter though. People always talk shit about graphics being important, but a vast majority of them would pick the good graphics version of a game over an outdated bad one.

@@fantastikboom1094 it's been a while since I checked, but i remember some were from other COD games like Black Ops Cold War, but this wasn't specified in the mod descriptions so when I corrected him, Mav blocked me. Some aren't even from COD - they're just the same L4D weapon like the chainsaw or golf club, but they slap the MW19 branding over it with no explanation as to why? Is it the animations? MW19 had no chainsaw or golf club. It's just a perplexing choice. I can only assume they were concerned about trying to maintain a sense of quality rather than being truthful. It's weird though, because the collection containing those mods is called Warzone ports which is more accurate because those guns were ported to Warzone - but he still claims they are from Modern Warfare 2019 for whatever reason. There's a distinction between Warzone and Modern Warfare that Mav doesn't seem to realise. I'll never understand why everyone that uses reshade feels the need to give the game that wet super reflective look on everything, that's not very realistic in dry conditions.
Bro modders make games we actually want anymore lol. I just want a tactical zombie shooter inside dark office buildings or something, if siege and the clean house mission could have a baby with a horror element to it it’d literally be the only game I play.
How is there not a tactical shooter zombie game yet? You'd have to rescue survivors from zombies, or plan efficient ways to sanitize an area (Kill all the zombies, but do it in a way that doesn't attract more). I guess the closest game we have to that is GTFO?
I used to love this game! At some point back then I learned to mod the actual weapons, since the game doesn't have realistic clip sizes for most of them. With realistic clip sizes, like 5 shells in the small shotgun & 30 rounds for the assault rifles, the game became more challenging.
@@dylanpettit657 yea in terms of graphics compared to most games and in terms of gameplay compared to most COD games, its one of the more realistic ones

I just felt like I had to come back and say that L4D2 became so much more fun to play after all the mods and Reshade was installed. You just feel so much more into it!! I've had fun with silly mods when I was many years younger, but this was just so much more entertaining. The tactical movement speed makes the game arguably harder since you can't just run away from dangers as easily as before, and the ADS guns almost makes it feel like a completely different game. I didn't add the bodycam or the swat costumes, but the game feels extremely immersive without those anyway.
For anyone wondering it's 109 add -onns to install and you might want to get rid of zombie ragdoll because it makes your pc loud as fuck and takes all the space up on your video card,so I hope this helps😊😊😊
It's so stupid that people think shiny is equal to or better in terms of graphical quality. It's funny how modders are trying so hard to make shiny floors/walls just to showcase screen space reflection.
Nvidia Remix Tools have been slowly rolling out to the public. You could get L4D2 to run with actual raytracing with that tool. Hard part is figuring out how.
Also if you're on Nvidia GeForce Experience has GeForce Filters, which are built-in Reshade style shaders / filters. It takes some tweaking but you could approximate the look here with less of a drag on performance.
@@therexbellator I use those filters daily and I completely disagree. Yes, you can improve the look of a game with them and they do look quite nice. But they do not come even close to competing with Remix and it’s raytracing with fully remastered assets and textures.

When you said also want to make the guns "realistic", *I thought you included their ammo capacities.* That's the one gripe that irked me the most playing both l4d games. Like, how can you stuff *50* rounds in an M16 magazine that's capped at 30 irl? And though I like your tactical shooter theme, I rather consider the theme but in the in-game lore in the survivor's perspective. You're a regular civilian thrown in a zombie apocalypse huddled with others, y'all come across a variety of weapons, how do you use them? Those are the realism aspect I want in the game but hey, that's just me; and you did it so as others, so y'all get the final say. Also, it's nice that you picked the midnight riders song for the outro 👍
Look, I understand what someone is going for when they make a modpack like this... But (to me) stuff like this totally messes with the game's artistic direction (and often looks bad while doing it). SSR could look pretty nice in some spots, but having it on literally ALL THE TIME, makes everything REFELTCTIVE. Why would you want carpet to be reflective?? Making dirty, mid-apocalypse environments overly reflective and clean, is the opposite of a realistic look. I know eye-catching video titles are how UA-camrs get views, which equals ad revenue and potentially sustainable living- But calling this modpack "realistic" is silly. I know there are people who have been playing LFD for years, and want to give the game a new look, but (and this coming from someone who started playing in 2021) LFD looks fucking great man! It has such an iconic and (importantly), a readable art style! It was designed with clarity in mind, working in harmony with the gameplay, and vice versa! There are some really good mods used in this pack (Like dynamic light sources), that tastefully enhance LFD's art style and somewhat improve gameplay. But so many of these end up just reducing the clean and simplistic look that is apart of LFD's identity. This comment is more emblematic of how I feel about graphics personally; people place far, far too much importance on the technical graphics of a game (like ray-tracing for instance). Ray-traced reflections do not SOLEY make a game look good. At their best, they *enhance* a game's art direction! Why do many classic older games still look good? Art direction! Halo:CE, TF2, Dishonored, Dark Souls, Bioshock 1+2, Resident Evil 4 (Not the remake), Half-life 2+it's episodes, and of course, Left for dead 1+2! They all still look beautiful in their own way, even over a decade later. Why? Becuase their art DIRECTION is beautiful! A clear artistic vision, even if rendered with a chewed-on school pencil, will forver look good! But a muddy and unclear vision cannot be saved by even the highest quality pencil. Art direction is timeless and it always will be. I feel it is very important to distinguish between what looks "good" in a game, and what FITS in a game. Many games look beautiful and have complex and technical graphics (Read or Not & Red Dead 2 are both prime examples), Ready or Not was DESIGNED with such graphics in mind. Sure, LFD was going for a more lifelike art style (especially when considering the time it was made) but it is critical to remember that a game's art direction (at least the good ones!) are not made in SPITE of their graphical limitations, but are often made IN TANDEM WITH THEM. Creativity is spawned from restrictions, adding more pretty reflections does not make an already artisticly sound game look better... It CHANGES IT, for better or for worse! At the end of the day, I am not at all opposed to people modding games like this! But artistic intent and merit should be taken into account and considered. If LFD was remasterted, and it looks like, as Ratlobber says, "A game that could've come out five years ago", I will be sad. As it means that LFD will have been stripped of it's original art style, a style which I find to be tasteful, real, and beautifully human. LFD's cast is not comprised of four face-less swat term operatives. It contains REAL people. With grimey cloths, dirty faces, low-res texutres, and wonderfully expressive faces. (Edits for spelling)
Also, the game ends up feeling kind of odd in these modpacks because, excluding Bill [who is an old man who hasn't seen warfare in like 40 years], the whole point of L4D is that the survivors are just regular people forced to become killing machines. They're *supposed* to be a little amateur and awkward, they aren't exactly trained for this, and the wider gameplay mechanics reflect this.

The desert eagle IS freakishly large, and, in fact, a toy.
yeah this bugged me too, L4D2's stock deagle is in fact a quite realistic depiction of how the gun appears in real life. if you look up videos of someone holding and shooting one, it's comically oversized and does look like a toy. it's also extremely impractical, pretty much never used in any real law enforcement or military application, and most people own it because it's *that* gun (and because having a pistol that shoots .50 cal bullets is pretty neat to most gun people). however, most games scale it down since making it look normal sized and without the insane recoil works better i guess.

It annoys me that noone is bringing up Querentin's L4D1+2 remix animations. They literarily make it look like it should in vanilla game with L4D1 view model position and walking animations, while keeping good reload animations from L4D2. the best way to play L4D is with no bots, no teammates, & a mod that replaces special infected spawns with small hordes
L4D is an amazing coop arcade shooter, but when you remove the coop and the arcade it turns into something else entirely. it turns out that a lot of what removes the tactical feeling L4D could have is that you aren't focused on the normal enemies bc ur keeping an eye out for the specials who are the real threat and allowing your teammates to mop up the normals -- so it doesnt matter if you walk into a room & theres 2 enemies in the corner in your blind spot bc zoey or ellis will get them for you & ur looking out for smokers anyway. if you remove all of that except the normal zombies, it does turn highly tactical -- you have to kill 100% of the zombies yourself and getting hit in the back is the easiest way to lose a run bc nobody will clear your back for you while you hold the horde off so you wind up playing the game much more closely to the way you'd play a SWAT game, except also sometimes you have to run screaming away from the horde while firing an M60 into the crowd
also pairs well with this setup; 100% accuracy pistols, replacing the deagle with a revolver that can fire as quickly as you can pull the trigger but only has 6 shots, locked to walking speed (which you already mentioned), no slowdown when hit by zombies, an extra slot for melee weapons, being able to put shotguns in your secondary slot, the ability to self revive if you dont get hit while picking yourself up, infinite ammo piles replaced with the finite ammo deployable pickup, ammo deployables get their own equip slot, & the campaign resets if you die
you've never felt anything worse in your life than opening the door of the last safehouse in the campaign and hearing the horde stinger, and then hearing it go off again 2 more times in the space of a second and realizing you're about to have a very bad time
you should make a workshop collection of these mods, lots of people would love to try that

How is there not a tactical shooter zombie game yet? You'd have to rescue survivors from zombies, or plan efficient ways to sanitize an area (Kill all the zombies, but do it in a way that doesn't attract more). I guess the closest game we have to that is GTFO?
Ratlobber never fails to make me think "This would be much easier if he just ported the maps into Gmod"
This is not Left 4 dead
This is unnamed tactical shooter zombie game number 191720
Thank you so much for making my day better, thank you Raylobber
I used to love this game! At some point back then I learned to mod the actual weapons, since the game doesn't have realistic clip sizes for most of them. With realistic clip sizes, like 5 shells in the small shotgun & 30 rounds for the assault rifles, the game became more challenging.
It's usually 6 for shotguns? I agree tho, just saying.
All this realism with zombis remeinds me hard of SCP 5K.
thanks for featuring my hq mw19 pack! was awesome seeing that work featured in your mod pack
Making Left 4 Dead as Realistic as Possible
no shit
real
MW 2019 being realistic is crazy.
In terms of graphics and general game mechanics it’s fairly realistic for our current video games.
💀@@dylanpettit657
@@dylanpettit657 yea in terms of graphics compared to most games and in terms of gameplay compared to most COD games, its one of the more realistic ones
I've been watching your videos for a long time now and I just got to say I always fucking love your title cards and stuff like that that you put into your videos. They hit it early 2000 point of nostalgia so specific that never has before
I just felt like I had to come back and say that L4D2 became so much more fun to play after all the mods and Reshade was installed.
The original rag doll physics made it more realistic. They should have never changed it, the way zombies dropped from headshots was so satisfying.
lens flair = realizm
I only have a single question about SSR - in what reality is a dry concrete reflective?
When its wet
Ive never personally understood what people like about bloom. It just looks like smudged glasses or a dirty camera lens
MMM that SWAT 4 Reference was beautiful.👌
I really enjoy your videos, you put a lot of work in to them. Thanks for the content!
For anyone wondering it's 109 add -onns to install and you might want to get rid of zombie ragdoll because it makes your pc loud as fuck and takes all the space up on your video card,so I hope this helps😊😊😊
Leg mod is nowhere near what actual leg viewmodels were in L4D1. Its just a hackjob with the 3rd person model and it fuck up alot of the time.
Your channel is fantastic, and your wit is going to bring you really far. I hope the best for you
It's so stupid that people think shiny is equal to or better in terms of graphical quality.
@@Stezell I said "Also" I'm not correcting you, it is there for anyone who has access to them. Not everyone has the most recent RTX card, myself included :b
"yeah so just bump the bloom up 900%, looks like a remastered version!"
0:28 dont let this man near any schools
tbh i was amazed as soon as you added the reshader like i never thought something can cahnge from old left 4 dead 2 looking like ready or not or tarkov or something the aiming down sight thing did look a bit janky but else i am shocked good job dude and also ill pray for you pc to continue to work
When you said also want to make the guns "realistic", *I thought you included their ammo capacities.* That's the one gripe that irked me the most playing both l4d games.
Also, it's nice that you picked the midnight riders song for the outro 👍
wow, I honestly can't believe it, you somehow managed to make L4D look like shit
If you want to experience something like l4d, but as a tactical fps, you should check out SCP 5K
Thank you Ratlobber for making videos
The endgame of making games as realistic as possible is that the game themes actually happen in real life.
L4d but its just 9/11
3:17 - Blue sky is gorgeous.
Facts
Also, the game ends up feeling kind of odd in these modpacks because, excluding Bill [who is an old man who hasn't seen warfare in like 40 years], the whole point of L4D is that the survivors are just regular people forced to become killing machines. They're *supposed* to be a little amateur and awkward, they aren't exactly trained for this, and the wider gameplay mechanics reflect this.

It took Ratlobber way less time to make CS:2 than it took Valve.
