Game developer here. The pixelated flashlight at 9:48 is probably because lights can use a texture known as a "cookie". This is a round texture that is used for lights to make them appear more realistic by adding detail that would be from a flashlight's glass in real life for example. The Minecraftify option without a doubt also pixelated this texture which is the reason of this weird pixelated flashlight.

Top tier video as per usual. You inspire me so much, I know you might think your videos are just goofy silly fun but they have a certain unobtainable aura about them as well that's oddly comforting.
Its still amazing how good, fluent, and realistic the zombie animations and ragdolls are in L4D2, still can be appreciated even with everything super low.
That and appreciating how Left 4 Dead 2 added the dynamic wound system (which culls a part of the model and inserts a modeled wound such as when they take a shotgun blast to the abdomen). It's such a tiny detail for what are supposed to be an enemy you kill thousands of in a single campaign and yet they feel more detailed and expressive than the Special Infected.
Remove all the special animations (basically anything other than movement, such as using a medkit, reloading, jockey riding, charger pummeling, hunter beatdown smoker strangling, spitter spitting and boomer puking). One animation could signal anything.
Portal RTX ended up looking a lot like Teardown, it has voxel graphics (aka 3D pixel art) which makes it look really pixelated and low-res but the lighting in the game is fenomenal. Really interesting video, the long-awaited spiritual successor to Making GMOD as Realistic as Possible
games with low-fidelity textures and low poly counts with really good lighting are always my favourite. teardown, deep rock galactic, ultrakill, fear. these games don't have textures so sharp they make your eyes bleed, but they have really good lighting that gives it a style and an atmosphere.

Hey so goofy silly little fact Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends run off of a heavily modified version of the source engine, meaning all the stuff you tried in here would probably work there too. You will have to install something called northstar or vanilla + northstar to gain access to the console though. Just saying, could be fun for a part 2

You could have done way more with portal RTX by using the dev menu, It’s an option to open when you press ALT+X. You can do all sorts of stuff there, like go back to the original game textures and models, or change/turn off the denoiser, etc. so much more to optimise.
It says a lot about the strength of Valve's art direction that putting in clashing mods does more to damage the game's visuals than any level of settings reduction.
mat_phong 0 on good settings actually looks beautiful, cel-shaded art style instead of the typical glossy appearance. Shame it messes with australiums, still my go to setting though.

The ones that changed the most and are quite impressive are the TF2 one with PSX graphics and the L4D2 one blown me away. That was Hella amazing to look at. Major props for whoever put all of that effort to decimate the visuals of the game.

a way to make tf2 look even worse is to use -"dxlevel 80" or "-dxlevel 81" making tf2 runing on Direct X 8 instead of Direct X 9 note the performance gain depends on your pc's specs for example you use the top of the line specs that don't really support older Direct X versions anymore will get you less than with older ones
For Gmod, if you want to make it worse, than float into the air for a while using cheats. After a while, you end up floating into a little low poly replica of the default sandbox area!
Did you tweak the DX level at all when making this video because I'm sure it would have made things look way worse if you did and it breaks stuff and changes the particles for TF2, at least.
dx level basically makes the graphics look worse, but it technically does not change direct3D rendering to D3D8, its still D3D9, just with DX8 compatibility/feature level for older GPU that doesnt support all DX9 features.

This reminds me of that Shounic video about deleting as many TF2 files as possible to see how much is needed for the game to run. The end result was a black and pink mess with no audio, errors everywhere, a smearing skybox, and completely broken animations. Despite how much was gutted you could still join servers.

There's fixes for "mat_phong 0" on GameBanana that might interest you, just saying.
It's pretty buggy with some props but it removes the ugly weapon sheens added in gun mettle update.

from a dx81 level user, he did not, in fact change the dx level. It's either at 90 or above.

This reminds me of that Shounic video about deleting as many TF2 files as possible to see how much is needed for the game to run.
