Last Man on Earth was actually slightly scary. I ran back into the gun store with both doors broken when I heard both a smoker and hunter. They were both at the exit so I kept my aiming there. Little did I know that the hunter came through the front entrance and lunged at me. Having played Last Gnome on Earth with 3 friends, the effect of commons targeting the gnome carrier absolutely works. We'd take turns holding the gnome for the whole campaign, and the carrier would always have the most damage taken, the most incaps, and the most deaths. It turns the game into a VIP escort game, especially if you use our house rule of the designated gnome carrier never dropping the gnome, regardless of how badly they're getting swarmed. Hard 8 with friends, is my favourite way play to play Left 4 Dead. An absolute joy, the chaos is really fun. Cold Stream seems to have a glitch though, that makes it particularly hectic. Flu Season fun though it takes a while. Hard 8 on expert was the longest game I ever played. It took all night, our graphics cards were crapping out and we had to keep rejoining. Half of The Atrium wouldn’t render and we added each other on Facebook so we could use each other as job references.
These videos inspired me to try LFD2 again. I managed to beat Dead Center on Expert by coordinating with a far more experienced player. We beat it with 2 survivor bots helping us (as much as survivor bots can).
Also incase anyone doesn’t know, no matter the difficulty melee weapons deal a percentage based damage so they always kill witches in 4 hits and tanks in 20, that’s why the chainsaw can demolish a tank even in normal gameplay

The double special infected is my favorite one because it's great practice for dealing with the specials in a panic mode. That's what helped me time shoving the jockeys and hunters away perfectly.
aside from the really annoying tank scenarios, i actually enjoy lone gunman. i grew up playing slow paced, resident evil-style zombie games, so it's fun to be able to replicate the slow, tedious, and intense atmosphere on left 4 dead. it can get annoying though, specially with tanks
also, i have to add, to get the "experience" that i mentioned, you have to play it on easy mode, because on other difficulties, the gameplay starts to feel like left 4 dead again, and that kinda counteracts the point
@@tumble8323 that's true, but what you have to consider is that this mutation also amplifies the damage by a lot. easy mode lets you get scratched 7 times before going down, but it only takes one swipe on expert. while yes it would make the game more intense, it can get really annoying if you have to keep restarting just because you got hit once.
21:22 Something interesting to note about Healing Gnome that I discovered upon playing it on Dark Carnival with three friends a long while ago: If you win the gnome from the shooting gallery it will, in fact, act as a second source of healing, and you can take it to the safe room and escape vehicle and trigger the transition or escape with the second gnome. It adds an interesting twist to the mutation itself and while it does mitigate some of the health sharing issues, it also adds some challenge if you want to attempt to keep both gnomes as you go throughout the campaign, since two survivors need to carry them. All-in-all, a good mutation, and Dark Carnival's fun "bonus" twists the gameplay just a little bit more so you get more out of it.
I recommend trying the custom mutation "All alone". It's a really tense and spooky take on a loner-type mutation. Basically a complete gameplay overhaul and really lets Left 4 Dead's horror vibes shine.

Youre right. I did have to relisten to it.
aside from the really annoying tank scenarios, i actually enjoy lone gunman. i grew up playing slow paced, resident evil-style zombie games, so it's fun to be able to replicate the slow, tedious, and intense atmosphere on left 4 dead. it can get annoying though, specially with tanks
also, i have to add, to get the "experience" that i mentioned, you have to play it on easy mode, because on other difficulties, the gameplay starts to feel like left 4 dead again, and that kinda counteracts the point
Wouldn't playing on expert do the survival horror thing better? with zombies doing high amounts of damage and medkits being more scarce?
@@tumble8323 that's true, but what you have to consider is that this mutation also amplifies the damage by a lot. easy mode lets you get scratched 7 times before going down, but it only takes one swipe on expert. while yes it would make the game more intense, it can get really annoying if you have to keep restarting just because you got hit once.
When Dom makes a joke that bad, you know the review is gonna be good.
Dude, youre so underrated.

21:22 Something interesting to note about Healing Gnome that I discovered upon playing it on Dark Carnival with three friends a long while ago:
If you win the gnome from the shooting gallery it will, in fact, act as a second source of healing, and you can take it to the safe room and escape vehicle and trigger the transition or escape with the second gnome.
