    These lessons never get old. After several years of squatting beltless, with good form, to parallel or below, I still learn how to get a little better each time I watch Dave or Ed do a squat tutorial.

      Why would you ever squat without a belt...?

    • @heavyassaultmode1503
      @heavyassaultmode1503 Рік тому

      @@fredator76 Why would you always squat with one? Isn't necessary for me when squatting ~500 lbs & or less.

    • @fredator76
      @fredator76 Рік тому

      @@heavyassaultmode1503 I tried squatting without belt but it didn't make me stronger. On the other hand, deadlifting without belt will help develop those muscles. Probably cause the lower back muscles are contracted dynamically. But on squat it's just a static hold for support. And also it changes your bracing, so if I'm gonna squat with a belt on my heavier lifts, I will use it on warmups sets too. But if it works for you that's great

      @@fredator76 Good points. And it does change the bracing. I have a similar philosophy for bracing on my deadlift-I start warming up with 3 plates. It's a very different lift at 2 plates (< my bodyweight) than 3 plates (>> my bodyweight>).

    No matter how much I think I know, I always learn something from your videos, especially about coaching (which is what I’m trying to do now). The speed at which you notice subtle nuances in your lifters and remedy them is astonishing. I hope to be half as competent as you at teaching one day, Dave!

    I've seen many people "round over" the place where they wear their belt because they have the belt so tight that they are unable to brace. I've noticed that the better I use the belt for feeling how my brace is working (pushing against the belt 360-degrees) the better I am bracing even without the belt

    Great example of cueing for the person. Dave talk’s about it a lot and him changing up some of his what he says so it clicks with her shows why he’s one of the greats!

    I would love to hear Dave or anyone from elite fts on their opinion on knee cracking/popping during squats with no pain associated with it.

    • @domepiece11
      @domepiece11 Рік тому

      Do you use knee sleeves? I get no cracking when I wear them. They just keep the joint way warmer.

    Hey, Dave. I get SI joint pain when I leg press. Doing a wider stance so there is not butt wink helps, but does not eliminate it. Can you do a video on this?

  • @brianhickey5949
    @brianhickey5949 Рік тому +5

    MIssy was coached by John Meadiows for quite a while. I think she has all of the basics down. I am curious why she is picking up powerlifting squats - they can't hurt for big strength :) Although that wide stance will bring some good shape to the adductors - hmmm, she may be on to something good!

    Kinda weird to think bodybuilders struggle with bracing. They seem to have great MMC everywhere else.

    • @dflctr
      @dflctr Рік тому +3

      It's because bracing is not one muscle, it causes you to use many in tandem, which is something bodybuilders do not train for.

    My right hip always start hurting after squats, it turns into sciatica after a couple of sessions. I never have pain during the exercise and I dont really know what it comes from... I know that Squats is the only movement pattern that does it. I can deadlift and bench and ohp to my hearts content but not squat. It is infuriating. Wish I had a teacher like Mr Tate.

    • @domepiece11
      @domepiece11 Рік тому

      Could be the SI joint. You can also get sciatica from piriformis syndrome.
