It's Friday, Kyle, Lance and James have new videos and my new coffee just arrived. Ain't no better start of the weekend with fresh brew and this three guys! Tbh I would go for DF64 because for now their is option for different burrs which makes difference for someone like me. Also out of the box has decent burrs too. I was a bit disappointed with the Mignon gotta admit. Expected a bit more premium grinder in every way and a best buy without even thinking in that price range.
Glad to be in good company :) Lance and James are also two of my favourites and I highly respect both.
And Brian Quan! You guys are all so great. :)
The thing that makes the DF64 so great is that the motor is press-fit inside the body. The whole thing is really just a big motor with a set of burrs on top, everything is sturdy, no vibrations, etc. And the plastic catch cup is quite nice, when flipping into a portafilter you can see what you're doing. I have it with the SSP MP burrs and I really don't feel like I need any other grinder in my life anymore.
Well said! It truly is a well built machine - understanding the context of its price and flaws.
Mine was vibrating quite strongly. I installed acoustic dampers under the feet and this stopped the coupling with my counter top
@@KyleRowsell you mentioned with the SSP multi you get more clarity, and if you want a more rounded flavor to use the SSP high uniformity. Their website says the high uniformity is for medium to dark roasted espresso. What's your advice for light roast single origin espresso shots to get a more rounded flavor? Would it be multi or high uniformity?
@@jritchie70 I would say get the multi, especially if you're also doing pour overs. You just get more flavor out of the beans in my opinion.
@@jritchie70 you can always switch back to the stock burrs if you want more body
I've had the DF64 since April 2021 (1st version).
Straight out of factory, the grinder was good, but definitely needed a good bit of seasoning. For a few months it kept improving but I still got some inconsistant shots (I do switch between beans, brews and espresso daily, I might not have been precise).
Now, after 9 months, I feel like the grinder has definitely settled, and is absolutely great value!
As for the build quality, I can definitely confirm that it's solid, still works as good as the first day.
Only mod I did was burr alignment, just like you, it was already quite well aligned out of the box, but I just wanted to go the extra step :)
So to sum up, no regrets on being an early adopter of this grinder!!!
Love to hear it Johnny
Thanks for mentioning/linking the flat burr alignment vid on Lance’s channel. I’ll be referring to that in the future 👍
FlatBurr Frenzy, I just started watching your videos , As a guy who is new to coffee i find them highly helpful this looks like a good grinder to save up for number 2 when i plan to upgrade from my 1zpresso JX Pro. I appreciate how informative you always are
The most interesting thing for me with the DF64 is that it isn’t a knock off of something else. That Turin made a really useful and well designed grinder and even made updates when The Hoff criticized things. I put the SSP unimodals in mine. I was really surprised with everything from Turin. The packing and quality. Except for the plastic cup. But there is a lady in Thailand that makes metal df64 cups.
Well said!!
its obv a knockoff
what lady please? Thanks!
No experience with either models. I do have the eureka mignon silenzio. Thanks to the 3D printing community you spoke about in this video, I have completely transformed my silenzio into an oro. Well not exactly since the oro comes at a much higher price tag. However, I was able to snag the silenzio for $425. It’s inherently very quiet, relatively low retention, and looks fantastic sitting next to my Gaggia Classic Pro.
I love my DF64 with the High Uniformity SSP burrs. Coffee is super fluffy and goes incredibly well with my Robot. I will say that the DF64 mod community is underrated. People are building mods to improve this thing (power button, static, funnels, tilt base, etc.). I am not disappointed in the slightest! God bless Kyle!
100% agree. It truly reminds me of the gaggia classic community or even the Manual spro community in their quest for high value for return.
In my opinion the most useful mod was the installation of the Mythos Clump crusher. It solves both the retention and the regrinding issue. In fact, it is so good, that I don’t use the bellow anymore. I’ve had to install a 3d printed anti-popcorning funnel to remove the bellow though.
For me, espresso was already good out of the box, but filter coffee got way better with seasoning the stock burrs. At first I couldn’t brew a cup of coffee without stalling the filter paper. Now I am really happy with the grinder and sold my Niche.
Are you talking about the DF64 or the mignon? Thanks
@@EthanF555 sorry for not being clear…the DF64
Glad to hear this! Going to give it a try soon.
Flat burr frenzy. I recently got a DF64 and it is a great grinder. I opted for the stock burrs since I only do milk based drinks and didn’t feel that the extra cost was warranted. Thanks for the great review. Eureka should go back to the drawing board, because for that money the grinder should be better.
Thanks for sharing! Absolutely. The money would not be well spent if milk drinks are your priority. Enjoy!!
The Oro came out while I was waiting on the delivery of my DF64. I thought I had missed out. The espresso and filter from the DF64 is great, and hearing that the Oro isn't as good as the difference in price suggests makes me feel sooooo much more comfortable in my purchase.
I'm glad to hear this! :)
@@KyleRowsell They fixed all the problems now aren't they?
Love the vid yet again Kyle. As I commented in the last DF64 vid, I love mine. Just with a mythos one clumbcrusher. Burrs were perfect out of the box. I do not even use the bellows anymore because the retention is down to .2gr at most. Good luck on the DF mod vid and the comparison, looove the work you put in! Flat burr frenzyy
I've gotta get that Mythos Declumper in mine.
I was waiting for this! I ordered a df64, glad to see it wasn't a mistake! very nice video as always! love the very subtle light on the table behind
Thanks for watching! And yeah - that light is a vibe 😍
Picked up this grinder today and subbed. Great content man.
Thanks for watching!
Flat burr frenzy
After owning the DF64 for 6 months I decided to upgrade to the multipurpose ssp burrs and it was a huge difference. The cup profiles are far different and have helped me dial in those tricky light roast coffees on espresso.
Love the videos lately Kyle!
Thanks for watching!
The problem with that is that it goes from a $400 dollar grinder (on sale) to at least $600
Searching for a new grinder is sending me into a flat-burr frenzy, but this video was super illuminating!
Regarding the declumper, its fine if you just take the top dial off, and use a small sharp knife and cut off some fins in the silicone declumper, or just cut it up completely. No need to go through the pain of taking the entire grinder apart.
And another thing to take note of is the silicone sleeves around the springs (example at 12:14) should be flush with the bottom of the spring, so you need to take out both spring and sleeve, make it flush, then put it back in and ensure it's placed properly. Vibration from running the machine might shake the sleeve looser eventually so maybe just check it every few months during a regular clean or something.
I have the DF64 and I’m now doubting the advice about ensuring the springs are flush with the bottom of the plastic sleeves. I also read this but I’m not sure science agrees with this “theory”. The spring should provide the same force regardless if the exposed part of the spring is at the top, bottom or half above and half below. So unless someone shows me evidence this makes a difference, I’m filling under the “unfounded claims” category.
@@technovelodos You may be right, I didn't think too deeply about it since it was so easy to 'fix' anyway.
This comparison was exactly what I needed to see. My brain was in a bit of a flat burr frenzy, but is now clear.
Glad to help!
Flat burr frenzy! Just bought the DF64 with SSP multipurpose burrs and can’t wait to break it open and try it out. Thanks for your videos and I love the 1:16 sign!!! 🙌🏼
I really like the honest comparison Kyle. Well done!
I just bought the DF64 Gen 2 model :D I was recommended the Mignon as it's quieter but I hear I can put an acoustic dampener. I wish I knew it was a bit loud like the decibel range because I have sensory issues from a brain injury but if I can put it on an acoustic dampening pad or some sort of sound absorption I'll be good :) I am buying the Bambino Plus this weekend after Thanksgiving but as someone who is going from an Aeropress to a full setup I think I will be just fine :) I lean towards the Bambino plus because really it's easier for my mom to use for her coffee needs and we can use it for our tea because I thought of the Gaggia Classic Evo Pro but I don't think my mom would be able to use it as easily as pressing the button. I think I can program the machine for her coffee but I am still debating the machine. I know I can learn a machine because I am quite patient lol but for her it will easier to setup her coffee if I lay everything out for her she just uses a Keurig and pods but she used to have fresh coffee beans and that big ole coffee glass container you see in the diners and stuff 🥹 I'll probably just make her coffee for her as we have breakfast together and she's moving in with me so she can retire and enjoy the sunshine and all that.
Look at your muscles! Kyle, you're looking even more jacked! Tell me about that shirt! I want one like it! Lol. This crazy flat burr frenzy, eh? ;). It really is a huge price difference between the two grinders. Realistically, people who want these grinders are a small subset of the coffee population. People who can afford them, even smaller. Lol. I have half a mind to get the Oro because I was thinking about the Specialita for a while there. I have a decent conical burr grinder presently. Working concurrently with a brilliant flat burr would be awesome. Your initial thorough review of the Oro was brilliant and fair. As a fellow Canadian, I definitely appreciate the take you took on it. :D. Have a wonderful rest of January, Kyle :)!
Edit: I forgot to mention, I love see through dosing cups. I thought metal would be better. I switched out my Velocipede (Ottawa!) sampling cup (close to 53 mm for my Barista Express) that's see through for a metal dosing cup. When dosing into a portafilter, it's nice to see if you need to jiggle a little to level out your grinds, you know? Just a little thing I noticed.
I have a df64 and I agree with all your remarks. It definitely is the best grinder for value at its price range even without the mods. With the minor mods/3d printed add ons, its way above its league and even comparable to grinders 2x or 3x its price.
I got the Oro and so happy with it, it is much better now than last year version! No regrets
I've heard great things about the DF64, but I have the Oro. It's perfect for me. How you could do a blind taste test with two slightly different 64mm burrs is beyond me, so good call.
Kyle: I like watching your videos - even right to the end, and seeing "flat burr frenzy"!
Thanks Jack!
Eureka is amazing, 18g in, 18g out! Bitterness gone as well! I sold my DF64 to my cousin.
Exactly. I don’t understand the comments about issues with retention. Mine is nearly zero as well (0.1g). I also have no issues with clumping, noise, or vibration.
So from.your experience the Eureka is the better one thus far??no problems with the declumper giving retention??how long have u had it for now??
Quality review. I really appreciate your open-mindedness and fairness.
Thanks for watching!
The DF64 + SSP MP is an awesome filter grinder. It's even better in terms of fines production if you remove the clump crusher completely. Try it, you won't regret it! 💪
Couldn’t agree more 👍🏼
how about using it for espresso? better than stock or worse than stock?
@@larsonl6376 I use it for espresso and filter yes. Worse? Not in my book (more clarity, less body). Workflow can be more tricky because removing the clump crusher, especially combined with SSP burrs MP, creates less fines. Puck prep has to be perfect and RDT is mandatory (where I live at least with the air humidity level).
Very nice video. Really enjoy your recents ones!
Comparing prices is very revealing for coffee grinders: In Europe, the Eureka single dose is currently about 650 US dollars whereas the DF64 you are comparing to is almost 500.
Flat burr frenzy! And I've watched most of the others to the end even if I forgot to comment. Thanks for your expertise and the kindness you display in your videos.
Means the world! Thanks for asking
That was a great comparison video. Thank!
Flat burr frenzy! Thanks for the content Kyle 🤘🏻
Your reviews are fantastic.
I got my SD Oro for ~550 bucks and I don't feel like it vibrates a lot and it's also not loud, I actually like the sound of it.
What I don't like is the cheap plastic hopper. Each time I insert the hopper after cleaning I fear to break it, it's such a tight fit.
Also the fake chrome plastic top cover is just not on the same level as the rest of the body, which is really built like a tank.
Just got it for about 450
I agree ain’t that loud but for that price some kind of glass would have been nice instead of plastic
Also the grind tuning gear doesn’t feel premium at all, and I dislike the fact you can actually go all the way beyond hearing that the teeth are touching somewhere they shouldn’t in there (that time I got no coffee coming out). That dial really is what is worse, they could have gone with some double precision dial (with one for fine tuning) where we could actually know how fine it is grinding for reference. Now the reference is « that spot when you hear the clinking noise ».. apart from that it looks amazing and is easy to use. Chrome is best.
Flat burr frenzy. From Australia , enjoying the content !
Thanks!
Flat burr frenzy!!!! I’ve been using my Jx-pro with my gaggia classic pro and have had some pretty good results. I won’t be upgrading anytime soon since I already spent quite a bit of money. But in the future I will be looking into an electric grinder and the DF64 and sette 270 are options that are around what I want to spend. So this was a great video.
Glad to help!
Flat burr frenzy.
Thanks for the vids, Kyle!
Flat burr frenzy - great video! Thank you!
Of course, you're not making videos for yourself. We watch this amazing Canadian guy! Just for all the craziness of our passion. Should I spend 400 more on the 64? Should I get the Silenzio or a Mahlkoning? My 20-year-old Cunill does a great job with all sorts of roasts. 60mm flat burrs! A chore to clean the whole thing. I can get a used one for 100 bucks. Will I ever get a 600USD cup of espresso? I don't think so. Maybe after 6,000 dollars, I'll have total control.
I'm six months into using the DF64, first with stock burrs and now with SSP MPs and its replaced two grinders for me now that I got rid of the declumper. As everyone else has said, it really benefits from modding but I no longer have upgraditis after going through quite a few electric grinders beforehand. With this plus a K-Plus for handgrinding I don't really feel like I am leaving anything on the table even compared to most commercial large burr grinders.
So glad to hear it Morgan! Love that a budget grinder like the DF can resolve upgraditis.
Nice review. Actually great review! Every time I see a review for the DF64 I get that "Flat Burr Frenzy" feeling...if I hadn't modded my Sette 30 with the 270 Adjustment Ring and the Brew Burrs, I might consider it, but money is money and I got to get at least a couple years out of the Sette before considering an upgrade. For now I will just watch and hope that someday I win a DF64 in a Raffle...lol.
Thanks for watching! And thank you for the comment!
Really enjoy my df64! Cheers from New Brunswick!
Awesome dude! You’re the the Canadian answer to the Hoffmeister,, I’m subbing my Canadian Bro! Love the vid I’ve been running a Bodum Bistro since I got into coffee in 2014… I’ve outgrown it for my daily pour overs! Any suggestions on-a reputable Canadian shop where I can purchase a higher quality grinder like these?
Ah that’s honestly too kind. Thank you!
I’d check out coffee addicts for the df64! I believe they’re based out of Calgary.
Glad i stumbled across your channel, only fitting that I saw a DF64 video first because I just took delivery of my own! Let the modding begin… however I had one concern right off the bat. Have you ever seems Aluminum shavings in your grounds? Maybe it’s just burr seasoning, I don’t know, but I had some show up in my grounds when grinding for filter coffee. Quite concerning, but thats what more filters are for. I’m also really noticing the static issue after removing the declumper as well, but I’ll take that over bad retention and a lot more fines.
Flat Burr Frenzy! Super love my DF 64. Wasted a lot of prints on random ideas, but when they work… they work great!
✅Mythos declumper
✅Dial Indicator
✅Food Safe anti-Popcorn
✅Easy release faceplate for vacuuming chute and declumper
Totally agree with all the mods, have really made my DF64 shine. Where did you find a print for an easy release faceplate? Or did you just cut the faceplate to be in 2 pieces like I've seen some people on home-barista do?
I don’t own a 3d printer. Is there a place to get the mods made or buy them? I have the mythos declumper. Did you just cut the silicone one and then put it in as a spacer?
Please any information on the easy release faceplate would be great
What about the fact the carrier sets on springs and far from aligned?
@@NANA-gy7yx Hey I just followed CY for the springs and on the alignment, I had a gauge dial indicator to align bottom burr(probably negligible you won’t really see it unless you have the tools, but I set it up already why not complete it😅) then marker test to align top burr
I really appreciate your channel and your presentations. I am also proud that such great content is produced by a Canadian, being myself from Montreal. I understand that the USA has a bigger platform, but would it be possible to include the Canadian prices alongside the US ? Would be a nice Canadian touch and a breath of fresh air 😉
First - thank you for this incredibly kind comment.
Second - A lot have asked but unfortunately my audience is 40% American, 20% Australian, 15% European and only a few percent canadian. It really wouldn’t make sense for the majority of my viewers to put CAD on screen.
But the DF lists for around 550 - 750 CAD. Which is comparable to the sette 270
It's a maddening grinder. Not just the quirks with the declumper and stuff, but fundamental design issues:
The lid that screws on is so thin that if you touch it the burrs move. If you bellow the burrs move. If your burrs were already close, your springs are weak, or you bellow super hard because your motor skills are shit, your burrs will make contact.
It screws onto the threads etched into the main body. Both are aluminium. Every cleaning you risk breaking the grinder (well the grind size adjustment) by cross threading or having coffee grounds stuck in the threads.
If you want to clean the chute you have to take of the bottom, but the bottom burr carrier is directly attached to it, so you have to realign after reinstalling. lol.
I’d love to see a handgrinder or two included in the ultimate single dosing grinder video. Kinu, jmax, or commandante (one for filter and one for espresso specific)? Hand grinders are single dose and for the price could possibly produce better cup quality than some of the expensive powered grinders and provide a better user experience if you don’t mind putting some work in each time you grind. Thoughts?
I think this is a great idea! I’d really like to see a high end hand grinder thrown in there as a single dose competitor.
Flat Burr Frenzy!!!
Another great look at the DF64, especially against the Mignon!
Super excited to see what's next!
Hey Kyle, appreciate the video! You mentioned on your instagram that DF64 with SSP Burrs is LOUD, would love a comparison of sound levels in a future video :)
Sure! Comparison to? I’ve always found it hard to communicate sound levels and db tests always seem very untelling to sound quality.
@@KyleRowsell Sorry, I meant compared to the stock burrs.
I understand that as a singular measure sound levels in a video will never translate directly to the real world, but basically what I'm aiming at is if the sound profile (pitch) or level is different enough the difference itself might come across well enough if using same mic set at the same distance
id say it sounds higher pitched than the stock steel burrs, but as a trade off, it grinds slightly faster
Hmmm interesting. Loving the flat-burr frenzy .
Not sure if it’s been done, but an espresso derived video explaining the differences with pros and cons of the conical and flat but grinders would be great.
I ask as everyone’s palate is different, and we all have preferences, but how best can we understand this without spending the bucks and doing our own side by side?
Just a thought and great work again.
Cheers.
Great thoughts! I actually have a video in the works!
@@KyleRowsell well then good sir, thank you in advance. For I’d love to understand where I might spend my money, it’s hard to rent these things after all, thus how can we can make informed ideas on what suits us and our own goals‘individually’
Loving the effort and your results.
Cheers
Thank you, yeah you are not talking alone 😅, I am here 👋
I agree. Glad you noticed the same thing about clarity, I was surprised the stock burrs on DF64 were so much higher clarity than Eurekas. I think Eureka is just more your traditional profile it does actually work better for darker more chocolatey tasting coffees and milky drinks I found. But If you like to notice the specific fruit notes or do a lot of coarser brew methods the DF64 is better especially with either of the SSP burr options. The SSPs even the espresso high uniformity one was cleaner and less bitter than the results from the stock burrs for aeropress I found. But stock df64 would probably still be better than eureka for coarse grinding. Multipurpose unimodals are best for coarse grinding brew methods but I found they do work for espresso well. Haven't noticed any issues with them maybe NOT having a perfect alignment helps with that lol so you get a little less unimodal result. There is the earlier unimodal version which is slightly different known as the brew burr which is supposed to be more difficult to work with.
Thanks for the thoughts Ben! Well said!
Excellent comparison 👏
Those are some great looking grinders.
Very fun and informative video, thanks for that as always!
I think I'd prefer a DF64 myself, much easier grind adjusting, looks a bit better, static doesn't seem to be a huge problem even though path from grinder to a cup seems longer. It's a very nice grinder 👌😁
I also like how it's easy to modify/personalize it's look! DBrand skin that grinder! 😂
Thanks for the thoughts filip! Have a wonderful weekend
Thank you for your review.
SSP burr... I didn't know that living in Korea would help at times like this haha
Good video as always Kyle! Someday I'll probably add a flat burr grinder to my coffee bar. Maybe it'll be the DF64 after this review
Thanks Tristan! All the best
hi kyle, about the range regarding the SSP multipurpose. yes you do lose a bigger range, but when you get the shot right, its obsolutely delicious. From my usage, the range is about 1/2 ~1/4 a mark compare to the stock around ~1 mark (for medium roasted beans). Its so much more harder to build pressure on the MP burrs, even when its right, the shots speeds up very fast towards the end. Hence a machine that can control flow/pressure is nice.
Absolutely agree.
Thanks for the fantastic video Kyle! Your videos are always approachable and informative! You may have answered this in a different comment, but when can we expect that single dose grinder roundup? I like my Sette 270, but I am wondering if I can get more out of my coffee with a DF64 or other?
I had a DF64 (the newer model with Titanium burrs) back in September last year. I didn't use it as I really wanted a Eureka Mignon Oro Single Doser (EMOSD) and preferred the look of the EMOSD vs the DF64. So I sent the unused DF64 back to the Dealer and waited for the EMOSD. I received the EMOSD and used it for around 3 weeks. Had to send it back to the Dealer due to high levels of noise and vibration (made a UA-cam video on it) and received a full refund for it. Agree 100% what you have said about the EMOSD. I think the heavy vibration and noise issues is a major design flaw and I think Eureka should do a recall on it. Certainly doesn't deserve the 'Oro' badge ! Now looking for a new Grinder to go with my new 2021 Olympia Cremina. Thinking about the Weber Key or HG-2 at the moment.
It's that bad, eh? I'll check out your video. I was thinking of getting an Oro later this year ...
Bummmed to hear this. But agree - it does have some issues worth addressing.
Great review Kyle! Really thinking of adding a multi purpose df64 to compliment my vario for all that flat burr frenzy.
That’s fun!
Great review! Very informative and I liked your experience/input and opinion. Could I request a decibel/sound as a metric for comparing machines?
Love your work! Flat Burr Frenzy!
Been super impressed with the DF64 over the year and a bit I've it, just cleaned it today (after 8 months of neglect) and there was still only maybe 0.5g of retention. Even with the stock burrs the cup profile is super clean and sweet.
Still very tempting to get some SSP though
👀
Did you mod or remove the declumper, or is it stock? Ordered mine a couple weeks ago, still waiting for the shipment to come in.
Glad to hear it!
@@collider4378 declumper hasn't been a problem for me. With Bellows, I've had 0 retention every time I weighed ground coffee.
I'm using the df64, remove the declumper and I'm using mazzer 64mm burr cause I'm using it for espresso only, and it work soo well..
from the price point this grinder is value for money, at least for me
Thanks for the comparison, good to know I didn't really miss out by getting a DF64 instead of waiting for the Oro. I see a lot of people asking about noise level and I find mine to be very quiet. To be honest it's probably the quietest grinder I've ever had.
Yeah i am also really interested in the noice. I think it is not just about decibels but also frequency etc, as in how nice it sounds
I believe the noise is fine - until you install SSP!
Bat Fur Friendly (remember the game telephone?). Great to hear your comments on the DF64, thanks!. Mine's been on order for a while, so mostly just confirming I made the right purchase :D I have no problems with doing a couple mods, be great to see which ones you like. Sounds like the Mythos declumper and some sort of dial indicator are musts. Looking forward to your shootout.
Ha! Thanks for watching 🙂
damn, very good working man, this is review, not bias overview. You should get same or more subscribers than james hoffman,
If both cost you the same, which one do you pick? Df64 with SSP espresso burrs or Eureka oro SD?
Flat burr friendzy
Excited for the ultimate showdown of single dose grinders. Been waiting for 2 years now to find an espresso-specific grinder that is under ~1K CAD that'll fit my needs.
I'm starting to get tempted to build one from scratch 😅
What are your needs? Would love to hear
Flat burr frenzy! Nice vidéo, nice channel. continue the good work!!
Thanks!
Thank you for the purchase validation haha! I just got the notification that my DF64 is out for delivery from Coffee Addicts so timing couldn't be more perfect. The oppurtunity to have one grinder that you can upgrade over time really appealed to me over replacing the grinder itself. Coming from another Eureka grinder the whole "get what you get" model always left me wanting more and it looks like the Oro is following that model pretty tightly.
Keep up the great work btw!
Thanks for these thoughts! Enjoy!
Man it do be a flat burr frenzy lol (much love kyle)
I love that these relatively less-expensive espresso grinders are getting more and more popular! excited to get my own soon!
Thanks for watching!
3D printed 10% extra angle base, zero dial ring, close cup holder, anti popcorn cone. All in food safe PLA. Love it!
Love it
flat burr frenzy
I've had the DF64 with the titanium italmill burrs for about a year now and I gotta say it's been a really great grinder for making espresso with my La Pavoni Gran Romantica... i love it! Maybe you can make a workflow video next time pairing the DF64 with a La Pavoni 😁
I threw a curve ball into this debate and bought the Eureka Mignon Specialita and also bought the single dose hopper and blower. Total cost of £397 new. I also have the DF64. So I would say going this way around the mignon runs rings around the 64. Just my version of the argument. No need to go get a more expensive single dose mignon.
Thanks for this video. I have a DF64 myself and can relate to all your comments...
I have a question on burrs... I'm interested in upgrading the burrs from the stock ones, but it's hard to make a decision.
My 'usage'-pattern:
1 espresso in the morning / a cappuccino on the weekend
1 pour-over in the afternoon
Only person drinking coffee in the household...
I also have a 1ZPresso that I often use for the pour-overs because I notice that when switching from one setting to the other on the DF there can be quite a bit of difference sometimes...
Any thoughts on Multi-purpose vs high uniformity?
Thanks and really appreciate the hard work!
Dude. Of course we watch. Pls. I need a DF64 in my life!
It’s great!
Thx for the review just what I needed. Flat bur frenzy !
Love it!
Flat burr frenzy!! Great reviews as always!! I;d love to hear your comparisons of the DF64 to the niche =)
That’s coming!
finally you reviewed the DF64! I bought it instead of the niche because the niche looked overpriced. Looking forward to more content about the DF64.
The price seems to be close with the SSP burrs
Great video. I look forward to the df64 vs niche zero comparison, especially for v60
Right on!
you are crazy but it is enjoyable to listen to you talk about how much difference in flavor you get. I am sure you can taste that. maybe some day I will be there.
Haha I’ll take that as a compliment!
After this video, I am now back to the Specialita or the entry mignon manuale.
I’m curious why?
@@KyleRowsell Kyle, I have a breville barista express. I wanted to upgrade the grinder. I like the look of the oro and niche, but not so much the price. The tiny issue with them kinda pushed towards the Specialita or the perfecto.
Ps I think the oro is a better looking mignon manuale at 2.5 x the price
Bat fur flenzy Yay I made a good choice with the unimodal burrs. Thanks for covering the Turin!
My pleasure
Love my DF64 now time to upgrade to SSP Multipurpose. Flat Burr Frenzy !
Get it 🔥
It was really informative. Thank you Kyle for making it. Just one thing that would be noteworthy is the differences between this version and previous version. I'm considering buying this, but only the older version is available in my area
different text on the dial, different declumper (i think in V1 there are 2 1mm silicon pieces put together, and in the V2 there is only 1 1.5mm piece), and that's it
I agree with BadRaz, as I have the early serif model and feel that there are no other significant modifications. I have been perfectly happy with the stock burrs but, perhaps my palate is not super refined.
I know they're in different leagues..but are you going to do a comparison between the P64 to DF64? Particularly with the SSP burrs? Love the videos and just subscribed to your Patreon!
Aloha Kyle. Flat burr frenzy! Thanks for the info. I'm looking into a single dose grinder such as the DF64 or 83 - and curious about how much coffee you can use at one time? My wife likes to load her French Press with 60 grams of coffee. Will these units work? PS, I like to get a cup of cappuccino in the afternoon, so a machine with good grinding range is desired. Mahalo.
Hey Kyle, Thank you for your amazing content!
Do you think there is a huge difference in the cup between the Italmill and the SSP HU in the df64?
Hi, in my country prices for DF64 = eureka manuale, DF64v = eureka silenzio. Which one should I get?
Kyle, being the polite Canadian trying so hard not to bash the Mignon Oro lol
Haha sorta true. I’m conscious that companies need to learn - and I know bad talking them doesn’t help to listening ears. I do believe they want to do better. Time will tell.
Flat burr frenzy bro. Gotta say that when I first just started getting into coffee last year, I was seriously contemplating on a DF64. In the end, I decided that it's still a fairly large investment for a first grinder, so I instead went for the price-to-performance king with 1Zpresso. I haven't really felt the need to upgrade to a motorized grinder, but I'd love to learn more about just how much a difference there really is between conical and flat burrs. Hand-cranking was never a turn-off for me, so the fact that flat burrs are only possible in electric grinders is what might sell me on them.
Enjoy the 1zpresso! I’m a big fan of their work.
Can you set the portafilter directly into the holder thing, or do you have to use the dosing cup?
Thanks for the video, really helpful 🙏🏼
I just ordered this (gen 1 v5) as my first grinder along with an Ascaso duo pid V1.
I’m chosen last gen cause I’m saving a lot and as I said this is my first setup 😅
It’s easy to want to go straight for the best of the best, but realistically my newbie status is going be the limiting factor and both the machine and grinder can be upgraded with parts down the line.

Hey uhh flat burr frenzy? Great vid really helped me decide where to spend my money
Flat burr frenzy! (I have a Vario with the Forte SS flat swapped in).
Great video. I like what I am seeing of the DF with SSP unimodal, but am holding out to see what Fellow releases later in the year (an Ode sequel that can run to espresso?).
Very interested as well!
Flat burr frenzy.
Great video!
Thanks!
Hi! What do you think about the Fiiorenzato Allground? Kinda choosing one between the Single Dose and the Allground. Thanks!
