No God does not play faviourites. When it is you time according to God’s decree it does not matter where you are are or what you are doing- when it is your journey on earth is up there is no savouring it.

The Catholic Church was against Hitler and suffered greatly for it. In the lead-up to Hitler's complete take-over, the Church was being vilified for it's love of the Jews. (Remember that every Catholic Crucifix has "INRI" emblazoned on it -- "Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews"). After Hitler's take-over, the Church tried to limit his influence, to keep independent newspapers -- the editor of the major Catholic newspaper disappeared, and his widow was sent his blood-stained glasses as the only message to let her know what happened to him. Priests were removed and sent to prison camps. Churches were ransacked. Catholic youth groups were dispersed and youth were forced to join the Hitler Jugand. There's a lot I *don't* know about the plight of the Catholic Church in Germany under Hitler, but the little I do know shows that the Church was not silent.
Iirc the legal basis of the IIIrd Reich was the Weimar constitution, there was provision in it for establishing a dictatorship if the state and constitution was believed to be under threat.

But Catholic media was shut down and the editor of the largest Catholic newspaper disappeared and his bloody glasses were mailed to his widow some months later. Catholic youth groups were dissolved. President Wilson had lengthy correspondence with General Ludendorff before he would consider terms for an Armistice. He insisted that all forms of autocratic government in Germany be abolished and that a democratic republic be established. Of course, some states within the German Empire were already republican in nature - not all were monarchies and not all monarchies were absolute monarchies. Nevertheless, a US style of democratic government was imposed as one of the terms of the Armistice. Winston Churchill argued for a Constitutional Monarchy, however, the heir was considered something of a fool (even by loyal Germans) and so the Kaiser’s grandson was put forward, but this departure was not considered acceptable by those negotiating on behalf of the German Government.
