Bishop Barron expects the defense of the Church to fall, to a large extent, on ordinary Catholics, who he believes are up to the task. This seems in opposition to current Church leadership, which is fixed on the view of Catholics as a suffering and repressed mass. Perhaps this is why Bishop Barron speaks so eloquently to so many of us in the West, who are accustomed to a degree of self-determination in worldly affairs and naturally expect to have our voices heard.
