- This is video five of the 1962 Austin-Healey Sprite series. This car was rescued from 10+ years of storage and brought back to life with the help of a few friends. In the last video we attempted to start the engine for the first time in 10+ years and it did not end well. A lower end knock was observed, requiring this follow up engine teardown video. Things go much better in this video as the engine is fixed with a few simple tweaks. Stay tuned for driving action.
Whew! Nice job! She's a runner and soon a driver! And the voice over at the beginning was a perfectly good way to save the video. It didn't impact the viewability at all.
Lucky dog or should I say rooster. 🤣🤣
That’s probably the quickest rod knock fix I have ever seen. Hey sometimes you get lucky.
Glad that knock wasn’t a big thing.
It’s like watching a kungfu movie.
She’s a runner.
Was anyone else thinking “Ferris Bueller” when he started it in gear?
You said it, off the jacks we go. lol
I love the sound of that engine. 😊👍👍
Really pleased for you that it was nothing serious and you have it sorted 👍
All survived OK thanks to the simplicity and low power of that engine tbf - imagine the carnage a modern engine would have suffered if a cap had been left loose?!
Also props to you for owning up to the mistake - we've certainly all made them, no matter how good we are.
Alright alright alright 👍. Happy for you
Oh heck yeah. Congratulations
Glad I waited... Didn't want to watch the knock knock vid. Now I can go back and catch up.
Congrats! Can't wait to see it back on the road.
Check out WatchJRGo's video today at 7pm CST.
I'm looking forward to your first drive video! Great job on this classic car.
One day a video will go perfectly for you. I’m gonna keep on watching either way. Thank you for all the hard work.
Glad it was something simple 😀
Such a relief! (And I hope the audio didn't drive you nuts. It all worked out pretty well.)
Completion alone is a major accomplishment. Thumbs up on the project.
Nice save there Josh, the car is coming along great!
Hello from France : bravo. 12 years, that's dedication!
These "series A" engines are one of the better four-bangers of all times : nice sound and highly tunable. Love them. And the "Spridgets" are lovely cars.
Yay for one in the "you win some" column of the old adage. Nice work Josh!
Working on British cars, my childhood in Eastern Canada. My father had a shop and worked on all British cars and air cooled Volkswagens, one of few in large area small town. Think this is where I get my love/hate for old British and air cooled Volkswagens. Great video, I can smell those old cars from here, memories!
So pleased you got the car running, and thanks for letting us join you for the journey. I really appreciate your relaxed and genuine presentation style which makes for an enjoyable watch. I'm now inspired to go strip some big brake calipers down for paint and rebuild for my NA MX5. Catch you on the next one!
Cool, glad you got it sorted!
It’s so interesting to see you without JR ... just you and the camera. You’re so mellow when you’re on your own.
I liked seeing you guys twist the distributor back and forth while trying to start it. Can you do a little video explaining the method to your madness there? It would be really interesting to see you running through what different noises and engine activity meant to you and your subsequent reactions.
Thanks again for the great videos.
Nice save!
Super that your channel is off and running. I've enjoyed seeing you with JR and now with your own channel, see more and learn more.
Runs so smooth 👍🏾 great job
This is such a killer car ... Im glad the engine is good.
So happy for you Josh! I've been there before and there's no way to really express that excitement when it starts and runs correctly!
Howdy Josh great video..
I guess you're going to have to drive it soon! :-D
Heh, that noise of it being gunned reminds me of my childhood. So many of them that only came out on weekends near my house
Nice to hear it running properly
Very cool to hear it run smoothly. Had to bleed to get it to cooperate🤠
Glad to see you're getting this car finished.
Awesome, can't wait to see ya cruising it down the road.
Loving the videos sir. Thanks for staring a channel.
Told you! Those things are as tough as old boots. Cool.
Great video series and super interesting content for all your videos.Your a natural Josh, can't wait for more projects.
Glad this was a simple fix. Im really looking forward to the Mustang! 😎
That tinny sound it was making had me thinking of something hitting the oil pan. Hopefully you get many hours of enjoyment out of the Healey. Thinking back I remember that on my Midget I had to wrench on it for about a half hour for every hour I drove it. In the few years I toyed with that car I became familiar with every fastener (they had a tendency to vibrate loose).
I’m so glad to see it ended all okay for you in the end Josh after all that blood sweat and tear’s you’ve put into your lovely little Austin Healey sprite and red really does make it look the business.
It makes a change to see one without the MG logo up the front and remember having its bigger brother the MGB back in the late 80s and even back then mine ended up being like a triggers broom so you must of had the patience of a saint when it comes to restoring a car that’s over 50 plus years old mate.
Nice one Josh !!
Rock out Josh! Awesome you got a runner!!!!
Just watched the 3AM first run on JR's channel and it was awesome.
Sounds GREAT, Josh! Outstanding work!
you are so lucky to have one of these. I'd kill for one. these in the UK are very rare nowadays, and command a high price too. But she lives. and looks great. I joined the channel from watching JR.
Can't wait to see you put the radiator hose on the lower radiator outlet. Hope to catch some tips.
Good Catch, and NO damage...Win/Win
Sounds great glad you didn't have any problems with the motor good job.
Thanks for the new content too watch brother, really enjoying it
Glad it was a simple fix. Sounds great!
Well I'm glad they were all worked out can't wait to see it in person.
Yayyy the Healey, I wonder where the knock is coming from!!! I'm going to watch the video now!
Well done! If that’s a typical SU type fuel pump, the clicking should slow way down once it builds up pressure.
you are doing a great job Josh, keep up the good work
I used to play with Fiat's, a little newer than that, but still very similar. There was an aftermarket air filter set up close to what you have on yours MG. The Fiats often had issues with carbs icing and otherwise giving problems with the aftermarket air cleaner. FWIW
Sounds good. It must have been a great relief that the motah only needed a tighter nut in the crank to offset the loose nut at the wheel.
Very cool it pays to just stick with it.
I love the car! Ready to see you drive it!
That's awesome, she sounds great.
Wow that was a close call. If you hadn't shut it down when you did in the last video it might have been really bad. Luckily you did good and have a great runner. Perhaps a few heat and cool cycles will free up the ring if that's what's causing the smoke. If not you can try some BG engine treatment.
Wow Just in time, love those healeys
Stinger with the audio misfire. Still pretty well done Josh!!
Sounds great! Thanks for the video.
Keep it original. Lovely car.
Glad the engine was good!!!
And that is what's called - best case scenario. Like you said, we all make mistakes. Wish they all could be rectified so easily. Wondering if that Weber air cleaner isn't too tall to close the hood? Ahem, I mean bonnet.
It has about 1/4" of clearance. I too was nervous.
Nice Josh! So glad it was something simple.
As far as your GoPro issue. Have you tried 1) new SD card? 2) Reformat the cards you have? 3) is there a software update on the camera? Frustrating. You are just getting going and finding your groove so maybe a new camera might be what you need.
Enjoying your videos and your shared content with JR.
I will try another SD. I reformat at the end of each individual video. It's easier than selecting and deleting individual files. The hero 8 is wifi enabled Nd checks for updated at each power on.
I think maybe an "action cam" just might not be the best option for vloging.
@@TheFracturedRooster not to add to your workload but I have thought this about JR’s videos. Have a stationary camera, like a decent DSLR to use along with the “action cam”. As long as the audio is captured on the action cam you should be able to split the video and audio tracks in post production and weave in the stationary video with the action cam video and audio. Also the stationary camera could be used as a back up audio recorder. There are several good external mic options for DSLR cameras.
Again, outside view. I am not in the trenches with you editing. The little I have done I know its time consuming and does take some time to establish a good work flow.
Lol, With the sound track issues, I thought I was watching an episode of Godzilla!
Kudos! well done!!!
Josh, did you & JR adjust the rockers correctly. sounds a Little Ticky? Maybe because the Oil Cap was off. lol It could help Some on the oil burn. IS That the sound you dubbed in after the 2nd trip to the gas station? lol
A common thing with those A series engines are valve guide seals dry up and shrink too.
Nice content! I see you have a mining rig in your garage...might be interesting to show it to your subscribers, tell how it is making you rich, etc.....
An RC51 in a Miata or a TR6 would be pretty sweet.
I was thinking Spitfire, MG midget, or Fiat 124 or look for an old kit car that's dirt cheap
Honest mistake that wasn't to costly.
Nice Build! This thing screams side pipes? 🤔
Paint mark the bolts after you torque them Josh💡
Very big sigh of relief LOL LOL
Cool Car
A small turbo would be nice.
I did not expect that to be the issue. Do you think it will be on the road this summer?
Don't tell my HOA but I took it for a 3am drive lastnight.
WatchJRGo helped, he will be posting a video on it today at 7pm CST.
@@TheFracturedRooster Thanks for the heads up.
I know why you're shocked. You are your own worst critic....most likely. Always something/way to do something better.
Wicked cool it was something easy and not $$$$. Congrats!!
Fortunate you shut it down quick. A little more and that rod cap may have left the building.
Josh, I have the repop emblems for the valve cover. Free
Just watched you and JR on his channel, that 85W-140 is not recommended for the transmission. Should be fine in the differential, but the transmission uses 30W non detergent oil. I ruined the transmission in my MG Midget by filling it with straight 90W many many years ago. Don' want to see the same happen to you.
Blood sacrifice is needed to appease the gods of vehicle repair. And brother, I have sacrificed a lot...had a 66 Mustang 289 that should have
been named Christine for all the blood that car drank.
Nice!!!
Where can I buy a 10/16th socket?
Why is the gas pump so loud?
She’s been sitting a long time maybe just valve stem seals???
I wanna see it with the hood on and the lights working and the radiator fixed.
Hood is on, radiator is on the way, lights will be working before the rad shows up. Heck yea!

On a completely different subject: since you responded to me. I've been doing research about the pandemic for a year and I've compiled information that unless you've been researching or are a medical expert; nobody knows about. If you're interested, I'll send it to your discussion page. If not, just say so.
Are you serious?!! You can't remember whether you torqued a rod cap that you looked at 10-12 years ago? Feeble excuse, boss, just feeble. LOL.
I WON'T bring up the time I had a fully assembled Honda CB400f that I rebuilt - split cases on up, put it in the frame, had ready for it's first start-up, and THEN discovered the cam chain tensioner spring I forgot to install sitting in the pile of "extra" parts.
1 day before I was to move from Michigan to Florida. Bike didn't move with me and became one of my brother's instead -- I was so done and disgusted.
Beastly little ride though with that Yoshi 458 big-bore and mega cam that wouldn't idle without loading up. True 135mph naked "mini" bike.
Overcome and exceed. You done it.
aah soo grasshoppa, do you mock me? hhmmmm? I will defeat you in single combat grasshoppa. aaahhh. I also think this type of vehicle would be great for new drivers. it's like a simple jeep, less wires. reminds me of my friends old chevette back in HS; we pulled the engine by picking it up out of the car.
This audio is like watching a broke-dick Kung Fu movie!
Your shocked because you got the whole car in pieces not a runner like it is now.
Vroom
Worst Kung Fu movie ever...
You know the voice over wasn't so bad
