Great tutorial! I wonder if adding a few patches of black, like crackled basalt or whatever, is at all worth it. Like that one Citadel texture paint/varnish that cracks apart if you dry it with a blow-dryer, or maybe just a texture paint with dark colours on top. Would it make a cold spot look even cooler (pun intended)?

Potentially! Let me know if you give it a try

@@morriganscreations I know you can make lava bases with it, like paint from white to orange while the paint is still wet, it creates beautiful patterns, then cover it with gloss varnish and then like 2 mm of that paint (it's called something dirt I think), when it cracks it creates medium-sized patches of black "rocky" texture but you're still able to see the yellow. I mean, doesn't work on hot metal, but there are usually flakes of oxide or whatever when you forge metal, maybe something of the sort would hepl give the vibe of really orange-hot metal, IDK

To save a ton, and I mean a ton, of time, you should just prime your blade separately with wraithbone or a similar warm white. I actually fully flip off my blades and prime them separately before reattaching them.

So the other way would suit my painting style which is slap it all on, hope for the best. 😅 Great technic dude. Maybe I could try that on a flaming robot.

do you wait for the paint to dry before you apply the next layer? or you go right away?

It depends on the look your going for. If its a molten hammered look then let the paint dry fully. If you want it to be super smooth then I recommend trying to wetblend

Love this, one of the best examples I’ve seen so far! Do you think this style could work for a blue blade? Would like something to contrast with the red of the Blood Angels 🩸

Definitely! I think it'd look nice as well as it could be seen as complete combustion of the blade!
