When you get to Avengers you’ll understand why everyone was so persistent about watching them in order. Love seeing you 2 continue the journey. Can’t wait till the next MCU film
Right now Thor is not worthy, his father said, "he who is worthy shall possess the power of Thor." His father sent him there to pretty much learn humility so he can once again be worthy.
The "Growl" that Anthony Hopkins let out when Tom Hiddleston approached to try to deliver a line was adlibbed. Tom (recognizing a method actor at work) backed off and let "Odin" deliver his banishment monologue flawlessly. That scene was purely visceral and you really felt the pain of a father banishing his son because of his foolish and dangerous actions. In my humble opinion, it's one of Hopkins' best pieces of acting (and that's saying a lot because he's also one of my favorite actors and he has a LOOOOOONG and storied filmography)
That scene where Thor's father does the right thing and puts Thor in his place. He was right, Thor was arrogant, impulsive, reckless, would have got the entire Kingdom in trouble. That scene gives me goosebumps every time and occasionally, maybe once a year, I have to revisit that scene to feel the feels. It's very very good acting, very good acting by both of those guys. Great Cinema.
Funfact originally Tom Hiddleston wanted to play Thor but when he and the director saw Hemsworth without a shirt they agreed it would be a better idea to let him play it . And I think we can agree .. letting Hiddleston play Loki was a pretty good decision too
Kenneth Branagh really doesnt get enough credit for how good this movie was thanks to his Shakespearean knowledge and experiences. I saw this in IMAX at a midnight showing and it was such a great experience!
Now you understand BJ why all the ladies wanted Asia to see Thor. Now the easy way to say the names like Heimdahl is Hime-doll and Mjolnir is Mule-near. They're just using the old Norse way of saying the names. Something to notice through the Phase 1 series is where the Asguardians finally end up. Remember in Captain America the First Avenger where the Red Skull invaded in Norway looking for the Tesseract. That town was called Tonsberg. Keep an eye out for it in later movies. Also, Asia will definitely "enjoy" watching Thor Love and Thunder.
When Loki went to visit Thor and lied to him about Odin, Asia asked why didn't anyone see him. In Norse mythology, Loki was the Trickster God responsible for deceipt & mischief; he was also a shapeshifter. Some scholars posit he might have influenced other traditions' ideas of Lucifer.
The one area this movie drops the ball for those who don't know the comics, is explaining the Odin Sleep. At its very basic, Odin is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe, but all that power comes at a cost of him having to go into a hibernation sleep from time to time.
Fun story about this. I recorded it for my mom cause my uncle had passed to cheer her up when it first came on tv. She knew nothing of Thor before this and was like why? As soon as Thor came on she asked, who is that? She was in love. I knew I made the right choice. Seeing Asia proclaim he grew up nicely and then mouth to mouth rescucitation cracked me up. 😂😂
Many often complained about how Thor was easily taken down by the hospital staff & Jane's car. A lot people either forgot or didn't pay attention to the fact that Odin stripped Thor of his power. Part of his power is super strength. Odine pretty much made Thor mortal
26:26 Thursday actually is named after Thor, several days are named for Norse gods. Besides the sun and the moon, there are 5 planets humans could see without telescopes, these 7 objects in the sky each have a day of the week dedicated to them and in English, the planets used to be named after Norse gods, not Roman ones like they are today. So we have: Sunday = Sun's day Monday = Moon's day Tuesday = Tyrs's day (Norse god) Wednesday = Woden's day, also known as Odin, Thor's father (Norse god) Thursday =Thor's day (Norse god) Friday = Frigg's day (Norse god) Saturday = Saturn's day (We use a ROMAN god for this one nowadays)
Close, but not quite correct. The names are from Old English, the language of the Anglo-Saxons who were neighbors of the tribes that would later become the Norse. Example, "Wednesday" derives from the Old English "Wodensdaeg". These God's were common across many northern Germanic tribes, not just the Norse. That is why it is "Woden" in Old English, "Oðinn" in Old Norse (pronounced "Oh-thin", not "Oh-din"), "Wuodan" in Old Dutch, etc. So, these were Anglo-Saxon god's who were held in common with other Germanic tribes of the era.
One thing you may have missed. Laufey the Frost Giant that Loki unalived in Odin's sleep chamber was his actual biological father. Since Loki is a prince of Asgard his last name is Odinson. But if we were going by bloodline his last name would be Laufeyson.
Odin wasn't having any insolence. Wise man. Thor's arrogance needed to be taken down a notch. Anthony, Chris and Tom were amazing there. The kind of scene I can watch over and over and scrutinize the actors faces, and still be blown away by the performances. So real.
One key thing you might have missed that will come back multiple times is that when Odin sent the hammer down to earth, he said that if the person is worthy, they will possess the power of Thor. So someone had to be worthy of those powers in order to pick up the hammer and receive those powers.
My friends, you need some help. Odin (Thor’s father) is always awake watching over the nine realms he rules. That takes energy. The ‘Odin sleep’ allows him to recharge that energy. Thor’s Hammer is pronounced (Me-Yoll-Near). It also has a spell cast on it from Odin, “Who ever holds this hammer, if he’s worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” No one can lift the hammer if they are not worthy. ✌️😎💕
I wish you could recognize Stan Lee. He is the brilliant mind and legend behind ALL of these stories. He was the guy in the pickup trying to pull the hammer in this one
When my husband was watching one marvel movie and I said Stan Lee my husband was like who is Stan Lee?? I looked at him and said I don't even know if I can ride home with you..😂😂😂😂😂
I met Stan Lee at one of his last Con appearances. I've met lots of other famous figures but he was the only one where I was star struck. After getting a picture with him he said "well done", and will for every hear that phrase in his voice.
Thank you guys for continuing the Marvel journey. If we are pushing you guys to watch these movies in order, it's so you have more answers than questions and get the references in the movie.
Great reaction you two. Always love BJ and Asia's reactions. Asia had me laughing so much at the Hemsworth thirst :) and it is Hemdall. I love Idris Elba's portrayal as Gatekeeper. To me this story was father having to teach his son value lessons of humility, compassion, empathy, etc. Was it harsh yes, but sometimes as we say you have to learn the hard way.
Just FYI, the guy i the white truck, that's Stan Lee. He's they guy who came up with many of our Marvel heroes (and villains), appears in almost all of the marvel movies, and we miss him so much. :)
The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) is a journey. All these films tell one big story and I think you're going to be blown away when you see where this all leads. Great reaction! Can't wait to go on this journey with you
In actual Norse mythology, Loki Was Odin's foster brother, not Thor's. Loki was the son of two frost giants, Farbauti and Laufey. Odin found baby Loki abandoned in a temple during a war with the frost giants.
The reason they told you to watch THOR, is it has something for EVERYONE. Action. Comedy. Romance. Thriller. It's all the things, and so much fun :) And also, Hemsworth is for the ladies and some of the mens :)
Tom Hiddleston knocked it out of the park he literally stole the movie, plus you believe that he & Chris Hemsworth are brothers they have great chemistry together.
Can’t wait to see you guys react to all of it! - Iron Man - The Incredible Hulk - Iron Man 2 - Thor - Captain America : The First Avenger - The Avengers - Iron Man 3 - Thor : The Dark World - Captain America : The Winter Soldier - Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers: Age of Ultron - Ant-Man - Captain America : Civil War - Doctor Strange - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - Spider-Man : Homecoming - Thor : Ragnarok - Black Panther - Avengers : Infinity War - Ant-Man and the Wasp - Captain Marvel - Avengers : Endgame - Spider-Man : Far From Home
The Loki series is fantastic. One of their best. Just don't watch it until after you get done with End Game or it'll spoil all kinds of stuff for you. But later tho! It's a fun one.
in Norse mythology the universe is held up by a immense tree called Yggdrasil or world tree. Within its branches are the nine worlds - Asgard, Midgard (Earth), Jottenheim etc. What Thor was trying to explain to Jane on the roof is that the stars and constellations we see in our night sky are merely small bits of Yggdrasil's branches. 46:46, This shot is meant to show that if you go out into space far enough you could see the tree in its totality and not just the bits that we see.
Yes there is a TV series for Loki. You cant watch it yet though. (Loki is arguably the best TV series they made.) You can do X-Men at the same time though. They are separate universes but do give some fan service in the MCU.
You were dead on Asia! Natalie Portman played Padme in the Starwars Prequel Trilogy, one of the most important characters in those movies, Anakin's wife and mother of Luke n Leia. Also, glad you're back on the Marvel train. I hope you guys can start releasing the reactions to this series a little more frequently, kinda like you do with TV series, because this is basically like a giant tv series, but with movies obviously. The closer together you watch them, the more details you remember from the previous ones, which is super helpful. Enjoy!
Asia having dreamy eyes the whole movie was cracking me up. I swear I saw her hand twitch toward the pause button when Thor walked out with his shirt off.
The joke throughout the movie is that that girl can't pronounce "Mjolnir" (Thor's hammer) right, so she says it "Meow-meow" for the laughs. It's understandably an unusual word for a native English speaker, but it's pronounced, "Mee-yole-neer." "Me" like "me", "yole", like "bowl/soul", and "neer" like "near/dear/beer." As for Heimdall (Idris Elba's character), it's "Hime-doll". "Hime" as in "dime/prime" and "doll" as in "doll (the toy)" Thor's backstory probably has the most unrecognizable words of any Marvel backstory, since it's all derived from Norse mythology, so it's totally understandable that it'll take repeat watches for y'all to nail the terms. It's no biggie, they'll be repeated a lot--lots of recurring characters (Heimdall's one of my favorite recurring chars).
OMG! This was one your best reviews. You guys had me LMAO, with Asia getting googly eyes over Thor and BJ trying to keep you in check. Keep them coming. Remember Asia, BJ is your THOR.
😆 yes natalie portman is the main actress in home is where the heart is movie.. shes also in star wars movies too. shes been in a bunch of things but i think two of her biggest ones besides the ones already mentioned and the marvel movies, are "black swan" and "V for Vendetta"
Another outstanding movie with Natalie Portman is " V for Vendetta " a 2005 ‧ Action/Sci-fi Staring Hugo Weaving as the Hero as kind of the mentor to Natalie . The main Bad guy sold Harry Potter his wand !
He fell asleep because in the comics there was a phenomenon called the Odin sleep which was a deep sleep he would go in to recharge the magical energy that gives him his power , he does it periodically. He’s very very powerful
The old Dr dude at the end is Stellan Skarsgard, who is father to Bill (Pennywise the clown, the crow), Gustav ( Floki from Vikings) and Alexander ( The Northman, The Legend of Tarzan).
Fun side note. The Doctor you see at the end is the real life father of the Skarsgard brothers. One of whom is Pennywise the clown in It and Eric Draven in the horrible new Crow.
In some Native American lore…the Plains Indian tribes for example…Loki is known as „Trickster“, in the American Southwest tribes he’s known as „Coyote“ and in the Pacific Northwest tribes he‘s known as „Raven“. He‘s always physically smaller… but he has great intelligence. Which means that you don‘t have to be physically stronger to defeat your opponent…but can prevail by using your intellect to kick ass!! Just look at what Tony Stark did as Ironman!!! Cheers
Loki and Wanda Vision are the best of the Marcel TV Disney series and worth a watch. Daredevil is the best non-Disney Marvel TV series, also worth a look.
Here are some basic Asgardian power scaling. The average Asgardian strength level if a round 1 to 3 tons for the palace guards about 10 and Thor's friends the warriors 3 with Lady Sif their strength level between the four varies from 30 tons to 50 tons. Now you should also keep in mind there's a difference between power and strength. For example with Thor's physical strength on a low tier he could lift the empire State building with one hand and diving into his power Thor's able to destroy the city of New York easily. Loki while physically weaker with a strength level of 30 tons if you consider all the powers and abilities Loki has his equal to if not greater than Thor in power scaling. Despite that it would take two Thor's and two Loki's just to stand a chance against Odin. Heimdall the gatekeeper seemed weak against the casket of winters but the casket could freeze the entire planet so the fact that he survived shows how powerful he really is when the only other two Asgardian could survive the casket would be Thor and Odin.
You almost have to watch the whole canon of films to really get the full picture.... and I mean exclusively 😅 skipping it or alternating with other films wI'll make it more confusing lol it also helps make the Avengers sequels make sense, a whole hecka lot! 🤓 Phase 1 is a good start so good luck 😊 it's worth watching all of them. Then onto Phase 2 and onward. Thor and Loki's neverending squabble... into Jane Foster's evolution. Can't wait for you guys to see the whole Thor franchise!! 😁
@Bj @Asia 😅 things you miss in this movie guys ......the driver of the pick up that split in 2 is Stan Lee creator of marvel super heroes........the guy who pick up the bow is Hawkeye who is an avenger as well 😅
Told you guys it will take y’all 25 years if y’all don’t bing, watching it in the movies and dvd’s is a quick fix but we had to wait! And it’s several series if you get that far lol, I am a comic book fan so I new these characters before they brung them to the big screen. Enjoy it’s going to get better❤
Omg, Killin me calling the hammer a mallet 😅. Driving me nuts lol. A mallet is like a wooden gavel or a thing to pound meat. Not a massive hammer that can destroy gods and worlds lol.
Here are some marvel details you should know. Odin is a tyrant who spent centuries enforcing his will across the universe and after seeing a vision of the future with his child destroying the universe Odin chose to become a benevolent God. That's why Odin cast Thor out of Asgard to change Thor path self-destruction. Odin draws his power from something called the Odin Force which is a source of power that makes up the universe similar to gravity. Once a year Odin have to sleep to recharge his power. Due to Odin seeing the future where are Asgard waa vulnerable he tried to put off the odin sleep which left him open to it.
Mjolnir is one of the most badass pieces of hero equipment. Right up there with Iron Man's suit and Cap's shield. The fact that it can only be wielded by someone its enchantment deems worthy is pretty symbolic and awesome.
Make sure you don't watch the shows until you've watched the 4 Avengers films! They all tie in so they've gotta be in order too. That Loki show is really great though.
Speaking of Idris Elba ya'll need to check out Pacific Rim, not MCU but a great special effects movie that still holds up! It also stars Charlie Hunnam of Sons of Anarchy fame & Charlie Day of It's Always in Philadelphia 👍✌️
The Odin Sleep is part of Norse mythology. One thing Jack Kirby and Stan Lee did is pull Thor and Asgard directly from Norse mythology and bring their stories into life, but with a modern twist. Everything from Thor's family to the frost giants to Loki's abilities, all based in Norse mythology. Make sure you watch the after credits for each film, they set up the next one most of the time ❤ There's 3 more Thor films and 4 more Avengers films to get through 🤣 Asia had heart eyes like we ALL had heart eyes. Thor is fine for real!
Yay! Finally Asia got to see Thor! BJ you have some competition now lol. Be ready for Stan lee cameos, he's the Marvel genius behind many characters. Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth have great chemistry. Loki has a big fan base, some have said that he is their favorite Marvel character being the God of mischief. Nice reaction as usual. Don't forget to watch the end credit scenes (sometimes there are two) as the story will continue. Please keep watching them in order and may I suggest Ghost Rider (2007) with Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes? This came out a year before the MCU. The Punisher (2004) with Thomas Jane and John Travolta would also be good. Thanks! Natalie Portman (she has a longer name) is in The Professional with Jean Reno (1994) and Star Wars Episodes 1-3, she was Padme and Queen Amidala. You're right Asia :D
Just you wait. Hate to tell ya, BJ, but there are 4 Thor movies, plus he is in all the Avengers movies, so you will definitely see him again. I hope y’all enjoy this journey. It’s one hell of a ride! (Also, I wouldn’t start the shows until after you watch Avengers Endgame, otherwise none of them will make any sense.)
That's why Thursday is called Thursday. In Old Norse, the fifth day of the week was called Thōrsdagr (Day of Thor), then eventually in English it was Thor's Day and then Thursday.
“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” The key word being WORTHY. The reason Thor could not hold the hammer when he first found it was that his heart and motives were not pure. He wanted the power for selfish reasons. That changed near the end
I know everyone telling yall to watch these movies in order may seem like we’re all doing too much but I promise you’ll appreciate it at the end of this journey
Asia has never paid more attention to a movie in her life till Thor. Lol!
She's going to love the next ones, Thor just gets better in every way as the MCU progresses...
Till end game it's all downhill from there@@ScientificallyStupid
My wife even named her car Thor I can relate.
I was just going to watch the Odin-Thor scene and the hammer pull scene, but Asia's thirst level made the entire thing so much fun haha
BJ gave you the look Asia 😂
When you get to Avengers you’ll understand why everyone was so persistent about watching them in order. Love seeing you 2 continue the journey. Can’t wait till the next MCU film
Also, if they pay attention to characters and little details. Things build upon each other.
Absolutely, they pay off is so worth it, it Makes Infinity War so good
@@RM-306 I was gonna say Infinity War instead of Avengers at first.
My all time favourite MCU movie
@scottelement yea but you gotta watch them in order for it all to make sense.

Right now Thor is not worthy, his father said, "he who is worthy shall possess the power of Thor." His father sent him there to pretty much learn humility so he can once again be worthy.
I swear, you got BJ gawking at Lila on Dexter, and now Asia scanning every inch of Thor three times over in this movie. These two are hilarious!
Side note: You get to see one cameo. The guy with the bow and arrow is Jeremy Renner who plays Hawkeye in the Avengers.
And, the guy in the truck trying to get the hammer is Stan Lee.

8:29 - Asia said “Thor looks like Jesus” 🤣🤣 I am LMAO!! I can never unsee that when I watch this again!! 😂😂😂 Yall crack me up!!!
Thor is Norse space Jesus 😂

"He grew up real nice"
That was by far the closest I ever came to choking on soda Asia and you've had some doozies! 🤣
Asia is gonna have a meltdown when she sees Hemsworth without a shirt.
But his wife can climb up a rope better than he can 😂 it was so cute so see him all googly eyed over his wife 😊
I got hypnotized by his torso in Bad Times at the El Royale. BJ better not let her watch that. 😊

"Blade" is the grandaddy of them all (Marvel character the vampire slayer). Wesley Snipes kills it in the role. Guarantee BJ would love it.

The joke throughout the movie is that that girl can't pronounce "Mjolnir" (Thor's hammer) right, so she says it "Meow-meow" for the laughs. It's understandably an unusual word for a native English speaker, but it's pronounced, "Mee-yole-neer."
"Me" like "me", "yole", like "bowl/soul", and "neer" like "near/dear/beer."
As for Heimdall (Idris Elba's character), it's "Hime-doll". "Hime" as in "dime/prime" and "doll" as in "doll (the toy)"
Thor's backstory probably has the most unrecognizable words of any Marvel backstory, since it's all derived from Norse mythology, so it's totally understandable that it'll take repeat watches for y'all to nail the terms. It's no biggie, they'll be repeated a lot--lots of recurring characters (Heimdall's one of my favorite recurring chars).
This movie introduced Agent Jasper Sitwell (the bald Agent) and Clint “Hawkeye” Barton to the MCU.
The guy with the bow & arrow is one of the Avengers . Hawkeye
"It is wet, he can't grip it the right way" lol what😂😂😂
I'm too young for this.....😅😂
Asia was wildin this movie
That was the best😂😂
I;ve never seen Asia so invested in a super hero film before i wonder what the reason is!
OMG! This was one your best reviews. You guys had me LMAO, with Asia getting googly eyes over Thor and BJ trying to keep you in check. Keep them coming. Remember Asia, BJ is your THOR.
Asis drooling over Thor and BJ picking on her for it was the BEST part of this reaction. Hands down, LOL! 42:36 😂😂😂 53:18 Where The Heart is.
I hope you watch all of Thor's franchise. 💗💗 Looking forward!
granted you have to watch the Thor:Darkworld, to get to the Better one which is Thor:Ragnarok
I will be watching every Marvel video you two upload
😆 yes natalie portman is the main actress in home is where the heart is movie.. shes also in star wars movies too.
shes been in a bunch of things but i think two of her biggest ones besides the ones already mentioned and the marvel movies, are "black swan" and "V for Vendetta"
Another outstanding movie with Natalie Portman is " V for Vendetta " a 2005 ‧ Action/Sci-fi Staring Hugo Weaving as the Hero as kind of the mentor to Natalie . The main Bad guy sold Harry Potter his wand !
Hannibal Lector as Odin
Idris Alba as the gatekeeper Heimdall
I think Loki actually loves his stepmom
He fell asleep because in the comics there was a phenomenon called the Odin sleep which was a deep sleep he would go in to recharge the magical energy that gives him his power , he does it periodically. He’s very very powerful
Natalie Portman was Padme' in Star Wars. She was Queen Amidala too and became Anakin's love interest.
The old Dr dude at the end is Stellan Skarsgard, who is father to Bill (Pennywise the clown, the crow), Gustav ( Floki from Vikings) and Alexander ( The Northman, The Legend of Tarzan).
NEVER come between Asia and her Jolly Ranchers!!! 😂😂
Or else you shall face the wrath of the Almighty Goddess of Snacks.
😃The snack…faux-argument in the beginning was ADORABLE! I HAD hoped for a shucky ducky quack quack but it was fabulous anyway🤭
28:46 That guy who grabbed the bow is S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Clint Barton aka Hawkeye 🏹
The first time seeing Hawkeye and the reappearance of Coulson from Ironman a.k.a Man in black...
Cheers
Men in Black is actually Marvel too, Will Smith calls a military guy Captain America in his interview too haha
Phase 1 is a good start so good luck 😊 it's worth watching all of them. Then onto Phase 2 and onward.
Thor and Loki's neverending squabble... into Jane Foster's evolution. Can't wait for you guys to see the whole Thor franchise!! 😁
Yeah BJ, even I was getting jealous.😂
Asia was swooning❤❤❤
This is a wonderful cinematic story, 10 years worth and more. Ya'll are gonna be glad at the end!
Thor isn't in any Marvel top 10 lists, but where it truly excels is the exceptional musical soundtrack by Patrick Doyle. I love it!
Asia I believe that Walmart baby movie is Home is Where the Heart is
Bless Asia..poor BJ..😂...
Asia will be ride-or-die with Thor and I'll be sitting shot-gun..lol...
Fun reaction y'all...
🌿🌿🌿
@Bj @Asia 😅 things you miss in this movie guys ......the driver of the pick up that split in 2 is Stan Lee creator of marvel super heroes........the guy who pick up the bow is Hawkeye who is an avenger as well 😅
Told you guys it will take y’all 25 years if y’all don’t bing, watching it in the movies and dvd’s is a quick fix but we had to wait! And it’s several series if you get that far lol, I am a comic book fan so I new these characters before they brung them to the big screen. Enjoy it’s going to get better❤
This year's Halloween costume and movie is the next Thor . BJ has to be a gladiator for Asia. 😂
This Marvel series took a total of 10 years to complete!!!
Asia was smiling from ear to ear throughout the entire movie, and so was I .Thor is the hottest! 😍😍😍
The pre show about the candy was amazing, better than watching trailers.😂
Was that Thor or Hela Odin was trippn over?
Both
Mjolnir is one of the most badass pieces of hero equipment.
Heimdall’s (the Gatekeeper’s) name is pronounced “hime-doll”.
Thor Love and Thunder will be a true test.😂
I want to see their faces during the "flick".😊 y'all know✌💓😊
“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” The key word being WORTHY.
