  • British band THE THE became one of the first bands in history to make a video album, way back in 1986. Armed with a surprisingly generous budget, and working with the likes of legendary pop promos director, Tim Pope, the band's Matt Johnson went on an epic trip across Peru, Bolivia, New York and the UK, resulting in a series of compelling videos for every track on THE THE's much lauded Infected album. Here's the story of how it was made, including interviews with Matt Johnson, Tim Pope and Tom Wilcox, associate curator of the ICA.

I recall contacting the website asking for a new version of this film and was saddened to get the reply that the original was buried in the vaults of Sony possibly like what you see at the end of the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Any chance of a Blu-ray release? I doubt my 30 year old VHS copy would play anymore if I could even find a player to play it on.

I'll second that. Infected was a phenomenal album and Matt Johnson was way ahead of his time.

I would love to see a Blu-Ray release for all of The The movies (especially the Dusk one)

I lost my VHS tape many years ago. I can't count how many times I've watched this masterpiece of a video album.
Thumbs up for a DVD or BD release.
4 or 5 of the videos can be watched on Tidal, but it's just not the same. And you don't get those in between goodies, that were on the VHS tape.

Somebody uploaded a reasonably good copy of the whole video album to YT a while back, but it seems to have disappeared. Presumably some record company copyright spoilsports clocked it and demanded it be taken down Boo, hiss!
