I listened mind bomb to death in my youth...i played and lost 3 cds and 2 casettes of this. There was something about this album that reverberated with me. Every song beginning to end was fantastic, the songwriting excellent and the production too. It still sounds fresh today. I suppose the album struck a chord with me as i started to question the world around me and have been down many rabbit holes since and still am to this day...in many ways matts song writing has been prophetic in its subject matter and captures the feelings and mood of the times. He's an unsung hero and a underated legend...
Only thing that was a let down for me about Mindbomb was the artwork, was lacking Andy’s ‘perfect for The The’ imagery. totally agree with you though, is probably my favourite and most played album.
Lets praise the moment MATT carried his love of truth and anti rèligionitis even though that's not a word. Would matt be bothered. I have the upmost respect for the truth a human soul strives to keep
I do really love this particular line up. The live shows & albums are unique. I love Soul Mining, but there's nothing like an inspired band playing together & enjoying it. I hear what he says about Soul Mining & expectations. That's so true. But the new stuff won many new fans as well due to the reasons Matt gave. Good to hear Johnny Marr talking about the courage to speak out politically as well. There was a lot of pi** & vinegar about during the late 70s & 80s, but very few tackled it intelligently & pointedly. Always loved that about Matt Johnson. We needed intelligent voices, not just crazy hair & radical behaviour! That's hardly a rebellion. More like camouflaged consumerism. Great upload. Thank you ♥
Cheer Matt!! Bless ya kids. Really really grateful for your music. What a year of loss. I for one am hanging on to London and Manchester as much as ever and riding my bike straight tru traffic and running red lights. And YES I jam the Harmonic while I drive. Blessings Blessings. Soul Mining CD the entire time the last weeks of my beloved Mother. Front row at Naked self tour in Denver. We Yanks so miss ya. Bought 2 box sets in case I ever lost one.
Thanks for coming again here to Melbourne. All your songs are deep & wonderful and Good Morning Beautiful is my greatest No 1 song in the history of the Universe!
Nothing to do with nostalgia, it was a better album because of the spirit of the songs and I was in NZ when I got this and never saw the video's, didn't even know there were any, so the videos had nothing to do with why I liked it.
Thank goodness for CFNY out of Toronto in the 80’s or I would’ve never been exposed to The The. Radio stations in Buffalo would never play this artist.
Will, I honest to God don't know how you get your hands on these things but you're doing an incredible job, mate! 👏👏👏 Merry Christmas to you, sir, and please keep up the good work in 2024! 🎄⛄🎁
I think I'll have a beer. Thanks I wish I saw this Senior Year in High School 1989. If the cards are right, me and my wife will see your latest outing. My friend who went with me to The Versus, Greg, has left us 😢. Black and white, cool.
Matt Johnson is an under-rated genius.
And pretty much anything with Johnny Marr is good with me.
