This is what happens when a Jock, an emo and a petrol station attendant get together
Proffesor Oak comedy gold!!
And they are all somehow actual God at guitar
Lmfao
Except the jock leaves and a weeb joins later surpassing the jock’s power level
That was not an insult towards Mark by the way lol.
@langestock when we had these rigs we had NO endorsements whatsoever. Everything you see here is the result of working our ass off at our jobs, saving our money up and getting good deals on everything that we bought. Even with our current endorsements, most of the time its just discounts on things, we dont really get a lot of free stuff, so hopefully that can put things in context for you. If you want things in life, work for them, and work hard.
I love how they went from complicated rigs, to a few Axe Fx's direct into the PA system haha
A decade into the future they still do that
Damn Alex Bois really does have arms of steel.
Josh Woerdeman and possibly the ass of a skunk
TheMan750 yes
You cant tell but Alex played on 18 gauge strings as even his light strums snap anything lighter. In fact, after 5 minutes of playing the 18 gauge strings he already has them out of tune by a full step. Its a hard life, but he chose it.
Took me 10 years to realize that they played Not Enough Mana at the end there. That would be sick to bring back.
Some of those early Bulb songs had such an otherworldly mystique to them that always bring me back especially that part at 8:30
Its on their bulb album
The otherwordliness is excactly what I miss about mishas old stuff! It's a really unexplainable feeling that I absolutely adore
just 3 guys in their mid-20s sitting in a room with at least $15k worth of equipment (conservative guess). and that was before they even had an album out.
Life choices dude. I'm 24 and if I would have saved all my money from work for past few years instead of drinking and smoking it all up I would have a similar set-up right now...
Same. Only I’m 34...I been playing 20 years
m4ssee you nailed it man. Priorities.
@@m4ssee I get your point but I've been saving for years and never ever been into wasting money on anything and I still could afford only a fraction of that. 🤷♂️
@@RaffaeleSansone Well that's the collective gear of three people versus just one person, so having a fraction of that should make you proud. Not fronting but I have decent money too, but I don't have much gear either. Never bought a big amp or cab, don't have my own pedalboard. I go DI with my soundcard and I got two trusty guitars, a 6 and 7, former's mid tier priced and the latter is cheaper. Next purchase will be a pricier ERG and maybe after that an Axe FX but I'm not too much of a gear hound beyond buying what I need for my recording needs.
Jake sporting the '03 metalcore look in '09.
When Jake Bowen was in his emo phase. Lol
+Ever Prado Actually, this was before they made enough money and Jake had to work side jobs as a Trent Reznor impersonator.
Rough times, indeed.
*Djent Reznor
He was never emo
@WoWandMetalFTW Once again completely wrong, the Axefx was not designed for metal, it was actually designed to please all the boutique cork sniffers out there, and it is PHENOMENAL with those mid gain, crunchy and dynamic tones. It happens to be good at metal, but honestly it excels with midgain dynamics. May i ask if you have actually played or owned one?
so misha's old rig
Guitar Blackmachine B6 - ISP decimator - Ibanez TS9 - Boss NS-2 - Boss TU-2 Tuner? - Keeley Electronics GC-2 - TCElectronic G Major - TCElectronic SCF - ENGL Invader - Orange PPC412 (vintage 30)
man, that bastard's loaded.
i thought so too whenever i hear about how much gear this guys had a chance to play around with - but then theres comments like, they decide not to play a certain song in an odd tuning cuz its the only one in that particular tuning and luging around one extra guitar is cost prohibitive.
so i don't think he was loaded, he just spent every dollar on gear and probably lived off ramen noodles.
even spending every dollar in gear, i bet quite a few would be able to have all of this and make a living as well.
Juan No it's a Maxon OD808 not a TS9.
Juan Ignacio Insua Misha's current rig -
Axe fx II with 3 pedals (reverb, delay and chorus)
lmao
his dad is the minister of finance i'm pretty sure
Nothing against Alex, but... Him leaving made room for Mark. It's better this way. Mark fucking owns.
+Brian Larson I love em both, but we always had Mark and Misha wish Haunted Shores, so that's nothing new. Him joining Periphery just sort of muddied those waters, but I was very happy when he did join cause I'm a huge fan.
Thing is, we have no Alex in any capacity. :/ I Miss the guy, he was so damn nice too. Honestly probably one of the nicest touring musicians I have ever had the pleasure of talking to.
+higler420 Alex was fun guy)))
old comment i know but - strange! alex comes off like a disinterested, almost grumpy and inconsiderate weirdo in this video...playing with hair while mishas speaking, his damn feet sprawled all over his pedal board. seemed to have a bit of an attitude when kindly asked to move. hmm
lmao holy shit you make a whole lotta something out of nothing. Looking for bizarre details will find you bizarre conclusions, ya weirdo. :)
But for real, what you saw is all you man.
thats just how he comes off here. maybe he's an asshole, maybe just jet lagged or something? conversely, misha comes off as a genuine class act, friendly and personable. no prejudices here, just analyzing the video at face value.
Alex was really the odd one out here. If anyone noticed, 1) He sits differently with his guitar, 2) He really doesn't have that nerdy attachment to his gear 3) He has a different posture overall. 4) He has a significantly different tone as compared to Misha and Jake 5) He's ripped.
I know it's weird. But for some reason, It was such a glaring difference. that I had to mention it.
maybe thats why he's gone.... 0_0
Shawn Fernandes yeah, he was the one i got along with the most. he is the most social. I think the whole touring and not making a bunch of money bothered him and eventually he decided the best financial decision was to leave the band as he had accomplished allot more than most people ever do in music.
To think all this gone for the Axe fx....lol
Gay
Connor Gilkinson im not scared of homo sapiens or homosaxuals, I'm scared of bad guitar tone.....
***** those tones cut live very well tho. plus they switched to axe fx now which sounds better than when they were using this setup.
Big D Slap cool
teamSKDM 1:57 would beg to differ lol.. but yeah, don't mind Mr. Diaz. He's a big-shot producer out in LA.
Ah the pre-fractal times. I miss them...
+Mateusz Nakonieczny
Their backs don't.
Skippy McStringStrum That's for sure! :)
+Mateusz Nakonieczny ah, the pre-unnecessary backing track laptop powered "live" performances. Now they practically just play along to their CD live.
Well it is the issue of progress.
You may love, you may hate it. Probably 80% of "new" bands are playing this way now.
I have been on their show and it was brilliant :)
+Mateusz Nakonieczny why? now the sound is better
my band is playing with periphery march 16th...im sooo excited to see them/meet them...they are a huge influence on me musically
Wow, Misha has a beautiful clean channel. love TC Electronic Chorus/Flanger.
@Thatmusicdude91 Actually i hate to burst your bubble as it were, but we all use axefx's live now, and honestly after having done a handful of tours with them, i have to say we probably wont go back to a traditional amp setup, absolutely phenomenal. Dont get me wrong, i loved my Engl rig (mostly sold now though) but the axefx is just better imo!
been a fan for a long time guys, cant wait for the new album
The song playing in the background sounds amazing!!
@WoWandMetalFTW You just named two of my favorite guitarists, and i guarantee you it can nail that tone. (though at their level most of their tone comes from their fingers obviously) but you can totally nail those gorgeous mid gain crunch leads that garsed has, and the ultra smooth bridge pickup lead sound holdsworth has if you set it right!
Need an updated one!!
I'm Misha, this is my axefxII lol.
They did one back in October... Let me fill you in... Vintage 30's inside Zilla cabs, expensive guitars from prestigious brands, then fractal, fractal, and more fractal.
Whitest White There's also Creamback H's in there, the wondrous sound of mixed speakers kicks ass.
Ed Niland True
"Not Enough Mana"
It's never been released further than a demo as of yet, but I think Misha mentioned it being a strong candidate for the 3rd Periphery Album.
their album is ridiciously insane, i love it
Wait till you hear the next album. It's a banger.
oh and the next few
I THOUGHT JAKE WAS MARK!!
well i think mark back then is their sub guitarist (i forgot wtf is it called) when Alex or one of them will be not around
crazy, how times change. I remember asking misha on his facebook about compression. He said he doesnt use it.
Thanks for clearing that up
love these guys!!!
@bassistxx trolloololol, cool thanks for playing!
sometimes i watch this video just for the not enough mana play through towards the end
that is probablly the BEST trio of guitars that I've ever listened in my entire life ;) you guys rule!!
Greetings from the Azorean Islands
all new materials.amazing one
lmao jake in his bring-me-the-haircut days
I love how Misha's floor setup dwarfs Jake and Alex's... haha
To this day he's still one of the biggest holders nerds. His home setup is insane.
Wow! I do like complicated music but even this shall take a while for my brain to digest. YOU GUYS ROCK!!
awesome vid, I love Periphery style so much
So rad seeing them then and now and everything in between. Come a long way to be the prog daddies they are now.
They always been rich asf though
haha nah, he has good genetics...
@GuitarEdge Thanks dude
thanks bro ill post back here after the show and let you know how it went...just 11 more days!!! i'm daaamn stoked!
@WoWandMetalFTW Of course tone is as subjective as anything else, but i just couldnt disagree more. I had my 2007 Diezel VH4 with winged C 6550 tubes (probably my favorite amp/vh4 model) next to my axefx rig, and using the diezel model on the axefx i got it sounding EXACTLY like the real thing, except tighter believe it or not. Fractal got it right with the Axefx Ultra, the modeling technology is right here right now!
Why doesn't anyone ever interview bands like these about their lives and how they made it to where they are now? Everyone always interviews bands about their gear and what they prefer. There are other musicians out there wondering this and it would be awesome if someone did that.
their tone is phenomenal
they are soo young, how COOL! Sounds great guys! Way to pull off 3 guitars.
@WoWandMetalFTW Spend some good time with an axefx through either a good set of monitors or a good tube poweramp and cab. Play with the cornford model and maybe like a fat boost or something, good lord you will be in tone heaven, the feel and harmonics that come out of that amp model are unreal!
Periphery used to look like Douchiphery
LukeBogart they have matured so much and it shows on their music, it's pretty awesome
they came in the summer, but i agree, they need to come back asap!
Excellent video
And I thought drums were a pain in the ass to move..
Oh wait, no, they definitely still suck to move LOL
I love how when Jake starts to talk it seems like neither Alex or Misha cares, haha. "No rack, no care".
@dantel666 Nah those are Dirge Within's amps, we are using their cabs on tour to save changeover time, we still have the exact same rigs for the time being except that jake is using an axefx thru a mesa poweramp now, and we are actually all going to be switching to axefx rigs soon!
Racecar in the background when Misha demos his guitar... I love that song
3:01 Fuck me sideways, that sound always gets me...
Fuck you Misha, I want my guitar to make sounds like that... :(
Quaker763 Not like it's hard :P
Quaker763 fuck you for being an idiot
John Arnold Bad troll is bad.
John Arnold lmao
John Arnold Fuck you for being a shitty troll.
I like how everyone falls asleep when Jake starts talkin about his rig 4:54
So glad these guys live in my hometown, met Misha, Persian just like me XD. Probably the best thing to come out of Bethesda Maryland, ever.
good work dudes.
2021 still here
YOUNG JAKE OMG
amazing.
It's great how most of this stuff is not really even is used anymore by Periphery thanks to the Axe Fx Ultra. Great unit all they need is cab speakers and that and the midi foot switch controller and they are good to go. Saves a lot of baggage too plus great effects and amps and tones inside that box :D
Jake Bowen lookin like Adam Gontier
@420Abril Not Enough Mana
Periphery's music is great music for the spring time
Remarkable how much the Jackson Juggernaut looks like the Blackmachine. He's found his comfort zone :D
The passion for gear is so evident here: glad Horizon, GGD and all happened :D :D
@adj209 My parents are from mauritius!!
@TrainsforGTA haha im not persian!
would u put it b4 or after any other effects or could it go in the effects loop or just in front of the amp and y 2 noise gates and srry for so many questions
this was good because when they explain their new rig they say "we use an axe fx", this actually tells us all the effects we need to sound like them!
i am not able to figure it out !!!!!! what happened to alex bois and why he was replaced with mark ?????
+Ayush verma I think he wanted to focus more on his personal life and have a more stable career for his future
+popdorito okay now i got it then they were not so famous n all .... so he wanted to have a stable career ..
Alex is a bartender now and doesn't really ever play.
@@lindenbutler5938 According to his linkedin profile: Key Account Manager at Statista
i miss 09
omg I love the intro to All New Materials..its BEAUTIFUL..btw I like Alex's face inbetween the 2 parts LOL
wow! so much gear and stuff hahah this motivates me to learn more and more :D
alex bois sort of looks like dave franco lol
Will H Yeah I was thinking the exact same thing man
Will H lol, true true
“Some of my favorite guitars”
As if this guitar didn’t cost as much as a used car.
i love misha's chorus!
@Periphery All I know is, I just started listening to you guys, and I dig it. And I'm glad that a band that is good hasn't had everything given to them on a silver platter like most. Now buying an album seems worth it as well. Keep it up
Damn that old lineup lol.
Do I really need a compressor for progressive metal playing? Im using active HB pickups.
no you dont
If you want lot's of sustain, yes.
you do. not only for progressive metal, almost all famous metal guitarists use it, just to feel the attack while chugging.
More please.
Holy Shit, I just got into this band (and a bunch of other stuff Mansoor is involved in) here on UA-cam and now I've just found out they're supporting The Dillinger Escape Plan in May, even though I was planning on going to that for months, what a fortuitous turn of events.
You can hear Jake is playing on a Mesa.. No wonder why though, as his uncle, John Petrucci is endorsed. Jake has the best tone here. And neither do I see why they would replace Mesa and ENGL amps for Fractal... Ease of use beats authentic feel ^^. I love amplifiers with cabinets personally. Feels very real.
Axefx sound identical and sometimes better than the real thing.
It sounds good, but it's not authentic ^^
Alexander Jansson Blindfold test invalidates that.
Engl = 3,000$ and your essentially limited to one sound unless you physically tweak your amp for every desired tone. Axe FX II - 2,500$ and you have endless amps, cabs/mics, effects, and combinations of the previously mentioned. Not to mention, the Axe FX is much more practical for recording, isn't nearly the same hassle to tour with, and is pretty sonically on par with any amp, tube or solid state. You can also hook it up to a computer so that it can instantly switch between different patches in a live setting, or use it in conjunction with a midi foot controller. If you crave more "organic" textures, you can always adjust the parameters in the unit and/or run it through a power amp w/ a cab.
Can't hook it up to a cab for live gigs though :). Sending it through a mixing console will apparently create sonic issues in the front row.
While everyone is busy listening to Emo, Periphery is nerding on metal. It's pretty cool!
thanks :D
6:46 xDDD
#notapdancing
So nice to see some true creativity ... :)
@lankeysob
Yeah with two exceptions I can think of off the top of my head:
Racecar is in 'Tosin Tuning' with a half step down. It's basically 7 string standard tuning with the low E tuned down a half step.
And Icarus Lives is in dropped Bb/A# (depending on how you look at it).
Alex is acting like his simple clean part is so epic lol it's pretty funny
THATS BECAUSE IT IS
and now these guys users axe Fx II and goes direct.
Lol right they have a lot of gear here hahaha
Foever378 right you don't see any of this shit anymore. Probably sold all of it for the axe rigs back in the day
yeah pretty sure misha sold all of his old stuff :(
this rig must have been a pain in the ass to set up without the axe fx
He didn't sell all of it. He still has a lot of the pedals if not more than he did here. I was watching the making of Juggernaut and they used like 25+ different pedals into their Axe FX for different tones. It was pretty cool actually
For anyone wondering, the background song playing while Misha is showing his setup, is called Racecar.
It is a song called "Not Enough Mana" by Bulb (Periphery). I heard a while back its suspected to feature on one of the new periphery albums coming out. But we'll see soon im sure :)
Alex's manspreading is triggering me
Alex looks so bored lol
awesome band
There were actually 4 singers before Spencer. Chris Barretto, Casey Sobel, Jake Veredika and a guy whose name I don't quite remember but there is a live video with him.
I can tell with this low grade quality that this band doesn’t really have a future
Yeah if they're lucky they can sell their gear and plugins and make some businesses that way
No, Nolly is in the band. He's their live bassist, and produces and plays guitar and bass in the studio. He joined the band officially a while ago, he's been touring with them whenever he can (though he can't always get to the US for tours, hence why Jeff Holcomb is sometimes playing live) and was in the music video for Scarlet.
Pretty sure he's in the band.
Sooooo jealous of Jake! The Caparison "Apple horn" has been my dream guitar for years! I got to try IAs personal guitar on a clinic like 12 years ago! :)
You guys have a new fan! :)
I play progressive aswell, we use alot of djent in our sound. But I myself use a Laney Ironheart, which sounds phenomenal. The other guitarist in my band uses a Bugera 333xl, and the combination sounds awesome.
