Everyone has their opinion, mine is that One of the things that makes them so great is that Periphery doesn’t have a best track. They are all the best, especially from the newest album. Lune and Marigold are fucking masterpieces.
To be completely honest, he sounds better than most other clean vocalists around today. This was this spring, and from what I've heard he's also improved drastically since then.
God, Spencer's certainly improved in the past few years. Seriously, watch a performance from the juggernaut tour or something, he's leaps and bounds ahead of this. That said, it's still a really impressive performance. His range is insane.
Spencer's cleans have gotten SO much better. But I really do miss these screams. they were so unique because nobody else sounded quite like it. Maybe it was just shitty technique but who knows.
Conventional meaning making the vocal line follow the chords played. For example, if a Bminor is played, there are only 3 traditional notes that the vocal line can begin on. B, D, and F#. Passing tones allow him to go in between chords, but the reason that the big moments in Periphery songs happen is because they are consonant between the guitar chords and the voice. The easiest example is throughout All New Materials. Notice the voice notes change EXACTLY when the guitar chord changes.
I remember asking Nolly about the setup for three guitars, he said that Jake and Misha were left and right and that Mark is dead centre in terms of the PA's panning. Hope that helps explain their 3 guitarists to some degree.
I think this was when they did the Djentlemen tour. Jake broke his finger so had Nolly filling in in the UK (I know that for a fact). This guy is Browne from Monuments.
The brj John Browne is playing looks very much like Lukas Guyader's one. Does anybody know if they are the same? Logic would say this one is probably Misha's but to me it doesn't look white in this video, it looks like it has a natural finish. Could just be the light I suppose!
it will never be release guys, sucks but shit happens, wish that you guys could shoot the next gig they have in toronto, it will be a better representation of the band too
Spencer actually sings the cleans pretty damn fucking well. And hes transitioning from clean screams, to growls and then to high lows. how he does it withough just coughing and spluttering all over the fucking crowd is amazing. And also, if you were there live, the singing usually sounds alot better. Live recordings usually make the singing sound worse then it would actually sound live 3:15 - 4:19 those are some pretty damn fucking impressive vocals for a live recording
Most likely both. He has an article on metalsucks where he talks about it if you're interested. Just google "periphery double track" and it's the first link that pops up
1. One can actually do more ambient stuff (like what Jake do pretty often), or complete/support a tapping melody like Alex at 2:18... And many other applications... 2. "origins from this sound lies with" MESHUGGAH first, and a little bit with Dream Theater. So periphery is somewhere between both, in terms of melody and rhythm.
Please add a Paypal donate option to the high quality download. Both Periphery and the Editors/audioengineers should get payed for this awesome project! Salutes from the cold north, Sweden. YOU guys are freaking awesome.
AHHH okk i getcha man! yah i used to have long hair myself and i loved headbanging and swirling it around haha then i grew out of that phase...but as long as you dont think looks or hair style take priority over the music all is good :D!!
Its amazing how much Spencer has improved over the years. Quite inspiring
the whole band has improved but spencer is night and day better
10 years after and he keeps getting better
Only misha could djent with a polo shirt
DJENTLEMAN
Lol and Spencer's dressed kinda like me
Is that Browne from Monuments?!
***** He was sitting in for Bowen who had to sit out for this tour
jeleopard He broke a finger at this time
Dat line-up. It sucks that three of those four stringsmen don't perform with Periphery any more. Also, Browne has amazing stage-presence.
Still the best periphery track.

Yeah I still think Letter Experiment is their best after all these years. With Stranger Things coming close.
when people ask me djent, I give them this.
Marigold sucks lol one of their worst songs other than the weird electronic one on 4 and one on clear
Is that John Browne from Monuments on the guitar?
Wow spencer has one of the best live voices I'ver ever heard.
To be completely honest, he sounds better than most other clean vocalists around today. This was this spring, and from what I've heard he's also improved drastically since then.
Tom Murphy was really a joy to watch live.
and also was the only member of periphery decent enough for the institution of marriage
is that john browne filling in for jake? i wish i was born sooner enough to see these sort of bands being born
Matt's playing is sooo awesome! Can't get tired watching it!
His live cleans have definitely improved in the past year, was lucky enough to see them in Leeds a couple months ago and he was perfect.
God, Spencer's certainly improved in the past few years. Seriously, watch a performance from the juggernaut tour or something, he's leaps and bounds ahead of this. That said, it's still a really impressive performance. His range is insane.
Wow, Spencer's voice has changed a ton throughout the years.
"Full DVD/Clip coming out soon!"
It's been 11 years. Where is it?
Still waiting for this to release!
Why. Why couldn't the DVD have been done in Ottawa. THEY PLAYED OW MY FEELINGS THEN GODDAMNIT ;-;
Brasil fans waiting for Periphery in a tour here! We love the band!
The quality alive its excelent like in CD. Congrats!
Cool. I hope they come to New Zealand again...
Didn't know Claudio Sanchez once played with them
I was quite surprised too. Watch the full live man! plus.google.com/113990974820477123221/posts/VqGdaLPt98T
@@makubexmeg do you still have the full live? Link doesn't work
I thought Guthrie Govan only played a solo for Periphery in Periphery II album. I didn't know he was playing live with them too..
It's John Browne, of the band Monuments. They've toured with periphery before.
He didn't use any pitch correction in the studio for the new album. Only for the background harmonies.
WTF never noticed John Browne here before lol
This was a long while ago. He's absolutely perfect live now
Can't wait anymore guys! Thank you for making this!!!! you guys are wicked the production looks fucking kickass /m/
This was a year ago! He's incredible live now. :)
Thank you for the update, can't wait to see this guys, thank you so much! Good JOB!
his vocals are awesome here, his vocals are improving so much live
Spencer's cleans have gotten SO much better. But I really do miss these screams. they were so unique because nobody else sounded quite like it. Maybe it was just shitty technique but who knows.
meh his fry screams sounded terrible IMO, he is much better now
Are you judging by this video? Because this was from a concert that occurred over a year ago. He has improved a lot since then.

I saw them a couple months ago and he's gotten wayyyyy better. Go see them.
Funny how Alex Bois played a quite similar Ibanez, that Jake later released as signature model.
Herrdesrings www.sevenstring.org/forum/sevenstring-guitars/139037-ngd-ibanez-lacs-rgd7-ab1-periphery.html
+Herrdesrings Nice guitar but totally different from Jake's signature lol
I've rocked a 3 piece kit with a bunch of cymbals ever since I saw this performance and I'm not even a primary drummer, guitar is my main thing.
i still wanna buy it
Don't cry man, I know they don't sound like Meshuggah, but I can definitely hear the influence.
que hace john browne ahi?
yo me he preguntado lo mismo jajaja
Yo tampoco comprendo, pero que súper chingon!
para ese concierto, Jake se fracturó un dedo de la mano y lo reemplazó Browne :v
Si!
SOON? It has been a long time since this was uploaded, they are already working on the third album and this is still from the from the debut.
yeah i check back about once a month for this to get some sort of release date posted, seems to be taking a while..
I hear you. I just wanna see more of the downpick god in P
Live dvd with handheld quality audio! fantastic!
The clean part of this song is so sick
Still waiting on a link to purchase. WHAT GIVES!!!!!!!???????
John Browne of Monuments filled in for Jake on this tour for breaking his finger. Tom Murphy is the original bass player.
I remember asking Nolly about the setup for three guitars, he said that Jake and Misha were left and right and that Mark is dead centre in terms of the PA's panning.
Hope that helps explain their 3 guitarists to some degree.
2020 im still here
I think this was when they did the Djentlemen tour. Jake broke his finger so had Nolly filling in in the UK (I know that for a fact). This guy is Browne from Monuments.

It was Misha's, and Misha's WAS natural finish
It is Claudio Sanchez, from coheed and cambria. (Joke, it is the guitarist from monuments)
dude, when is this dvd gonna be viewable by all
Hahaha I thought the fill in guitarist was Guthrie Govan lol.
Keep the camera on Misha during the solo part!
I believe it. Even with PII you can hear the improvements in his voice. I havent gotten the chance to see them live in person but i'm hoping to soon!
it will never be release guys, sucks but shit happens, wish that you guys could shoot the next gig they have in toronto, it will be a better representation of the band too
watching this video you can say that band is absolutely AWSOME. Sounds perfect.
2 years later is not what i call "soon" is this ever gonna be released on dvd
it's pretty easy to headbang to if you can count to 4...i know that's a big number...but...it can be done...
Alex Bois, John Browne (Monuments, ex-Fellsilent) and Tom Murphy.
haha me too, I check back here every once and a while, still waiting.
No Jake... :(
Spencer actually sings the cleans pretty damn fucking well.
And hes transitioning from clean screams, to growls and then to high lows.

Thank's a lot guys!
spencer's voice is epic
God i love that breakdown at the end!!! :D
til these days, still fucking love it.
been waiting for this.. my patience is runs out. come ooooon \m/
I believe it's the guitarist from the band Monuments
This was the best lineup.
Did you hear their new album? Vocals are INSANE!! In studio at least :))
more please
I can't believe how much the line up has changed, even since then
Every time spencer sings i'm like "He's never gonna be able to get THAT note.".
But damn he does!
Yup lol
This was an excellent performance of "Letter Experiment", It sounded killer to me. And it's not super difficult, but knowing every single change, is.
good question! i think that the other dude, the one with short hair, is alex bois =]
Most likely both. He has an article on metalsucks where he talks about it if you're interested. Just google "periphery double track" and it's the first link that pops up
please be sure on the final mixes for this that the bass gets turned down. this looks awesome as fuck though!
Watch some of their recent live stuff with songs from the new album. He's improved so much.
Haha well that's the only time I've seen them so I guess that's why I said that, I think I met you there but I'm not so sure. What do you do then?
ive never seen band more precise on stage .....shish man .... periphery for lifeee
Once upon a time.......
They are much better now, but i want this so badly T_T
Oh my god , thanks!!! I missed it :)
What kind of effects processor are they using for guitar to get that tone it doesn’t look like an axe fx
I love Nolly but it's nice still seeing Tom on bass at least in these nostalgic videos 🙏🙏
Mark and Nolly weren't in the band yet, Jake was sick or something. I don't remember.
when is this dvd gonna come ouuuttt????
Please add a Paypal donate option to the high quality download. Both Periphery and the Editors/audioengineers should get payed for this awesome project!
Salutes from the cold north, Sweden. YOU guys are freaking awesome.
Who is the 3rd guitarist in this video? The one that looks like John Browne.
Glen Nielsen Yeah it is. He filled in for them on a tour when Jake was ill or something.
I think Jake had a wrist injury
AHHH okk i getcha man! yah i used to have long hair myself and i loved headbanging and swirling it around haha then i grew out of that phase...but as long as you dont think looks or hair style take priority over the music all is good :D!!
Definitely need this DVD.
john browne knows how to get fucking low
JOHN FUCKIN BROWNE!?!?
this is too fucking cool. i will love you guys forever when this comes out!
What line-up did they have here? Spencer, Misha, Bowen, who else?
True, it would be hard, and I respect him for that.
I just got the new album, and Sponce's singing was brilliant.
Please let me know when this is available, I need it!
and im still waiiitiiing heeeere (8)
I guess it was shot before Mark joined
Give me the DVD NOW!!!
That is John. He was filling in for Jake.
@cacaface12 , i think a caparison?
I want this DVD :D
John Browne of Monuments.
