That’s a beautiful viv, just right for this species. Have you seen Dav Kaufmann’s video where he comes across three rainbow boas in Peru, and also a boa constrictor? The ground was consistently squelching wet pretty much everywhere. I reckon scale rot is very unlikely for these snakes, though mine stays in one of her hides almost all the time during the day, and under her hide the substrate isn’t damp. At this time of year, where the r.h. is in the sixties, I find a light substrate misting twice a day is enough; most of the evaporation is from the cork bark, which I mist till it’s dripping wet. I also have two large water dishes in there. Good to see that Skittles has grown so much - mine has too: she’s on a small weaner rat about every ten to fourteen days. Sorry that you haven’t been well, hope you’re ok soon; looking forward to your next video.
Hi John! Good to hear from you, and thanks for your comment! I have indeed seen Dav’s video, it’s great! And yeah the ground is very wet under his feet, but the ground coverage is also a lot deeper. In a vivarium with little to no drainage, it’s wise to be a little more careful.
Your misting schedule is the same as mine was and it works a treat doesn’t it!
Nice enclosure, i,d be careful with the uv I've heard of brb's getting "sunburnt" from uv
Don’t worry, it’s only 6%, incredibly low level and she has the option to not be under it. Damage would only be done with full exposure to 10% or above
I really like the fog it gives it a nice tropical feel and serves its purpose. Man arent brb's just amazing and have a mysterious auro about them
Great video! Skittles looks like a happy rainbow boa in her very nice enclosure. Thanks for the intro to that arcadia deep heat; I wanna try those out for my critters! 👍
Thank you! She’s loving her new space, out exploring every night :)
You have done another wonderful job with the enclosure Dan and you always do go above and beyond with them to ensure your snakes have the very best. Skittles l do remember when she was really tiny, sure has grown. l really like the Acadia products too and really need to look into getting more things from them. l have been so busy and health at times does affect me but it is always great to catch one of your videos. Cant have a rainbow boa here but when l see them l so wish l could.
Aww thanks so much! My animals really do mean the world to me, and are my main focus in life! Now and then I look back at older videos to see how much they’ve grown and it always surprises me!
I absolutely love your setups they are so awesome and amazing
Thanks so much!
@@JensensReptiles you're doing a great job with these animals and their setups keep it up and you're great
I use a habistat humidifier fogger and it’s the best thing I have bought for my little one peace of mind knowing that I’m there is plenty of humidity on a timer without wet substrate
Hey man thanks so much for all the helpful herp advice, I am set up to get a neonate BRB in a few weeks and seeing how you interact and care for Skittles has been enlightening, informative and has made me feel more confident about caring for one of these beautiful creatures myself!
Hope you and Skittles are doing awesome!
Aww thanks so much! Good luck with your little one! I have a few other videos on here from when Skittles was a baby, they might be helpful too :)
@@JensensReptiles I KNOOW lol I eat up all your rainbow Boa vids! Seeing a new one made my day! Thanks again buddy!
Hahaha amazing 😁
Beautiful snake and setup!
Thank you!
Nice viv mate. Ill be upgrading my rainbow boas soon to a 4 foot, definitely thinking about getting one of those misters
Thanks! And yeah, definitely a good investment
@@JensensReptiles i have a rainbow boa in a 3 foot viv at the min but its started to go rotten as its old. Rather than get another 3 foot would you say a 4 foot by 2 by 2 would be okay for a 15 month old boa? Hes around 3 foot long
Yep, no issue with a 4ft :)
That is beautifully done!
Thanks so much!
Looks good mate!
Thanks Joe!
I love all your enclosures always doing an amazing job
Thank you!
Get well soon bro
Thanks mate :)
@@JensensReptiles What are your plans for the Viv Tek?
I moved my scorpion into it :) the terapod I had him in was starting to fall apart, and the Viv-tek fits perfectly in the bookcase I keep him on
would one of those 80w deep heat projectors be enough to heat a 4ft x 2ft x2ft enclosure for a corn snake? ive been reading a lot about how good they are but have no experience with them and how well they heat, im currently using a 150w ceramic which obviously gives a good ambient heat too, especially in winter months.
The 80w is the one I’m using and it does the job beautifully. I have a 50w in a smaller enclosure and it’s great but I think it would struggle with the extra space
That’s an awesome setup! Looking into possibly getting one for my first snake. I would prefer one to a ball pythons but I’m curious, would these guys hang around your neck and shoulders for hours at a time or do they move around too much for that? Thanks!
They’re inherently curious so usually a bit more active than a ball/royal python :)
Hello, what mister did you use? This is a very helpful video by the way!
Omg I love how this looks so much do you sell brazilian rainbow boas?
Or where did you get it?
Thanks :) I don’t sell them, I got Skittles from a friend
I will be building my set ups for my BRB and Normi Ball Python soon. What brand humidifier are you using?
We use the living nature reptile fogger
Great channel and videos. Do you need a dimmer stat for the Arcadia deep heat Bulb or can i use a pulse ?
Hi there, thanks so much! For the deep heat you need to use a dimmer stat :)
Hey, I was wondering what you use for the fogger? Do you use one branded for reptiles or something different? I've been looking for one but all the reptile ones seem to have terrible reviews saying they break and leak easy
I can’t remember the exact make of mine but it’s definitely a reptile one. I’ve had it for about 4 years and it still works perfectly. I clean it well every few days and it’s great!
Hey is this an on/off stat would you reccomend for a ceramic heat bulb ?
I use pulse proportional stats for my ceramics, more energy efficient and better for the bulb
Hi not sure if u will see this but I have a caramel carpet python and I am planning to add a mister to increase the humidity and add to the aesthetic of the cage. I have a cage that is larger than this but has the same vents and I am reluctant to drill a hole in the Vivarium so I was just wondering how you managed to incorporate it into the vents. Would appreciate any help!
I used some stiff foam to make a “socket” for the mister pipe. The foam is cut to the same size as the vent hole so it slots in at the back behind the vent. The viv is close to the wall, so everything is just slotted into place and held together
Hi there,
Could you tell me what temperature you have in the terrarium ? I from spain
what would you say are the main differences between keeping a boa constrictor and a rainbow boa? Other than humidity and habitat?
Size. I can’t stress it enough. Boa constrictors can get very big, and they deserve big spaces. Zeke will be the reason we move house as soon as possible. Rainbow boas are on the smaller side too. Rainbows are a little faster moving and can be more skittish but they’re wonderfully curious. Boa constrictors are often slower moving and very stubborn when they want to go a certain direction
Jensen's Reptiles yup! Stubborn is right! I’ve found with Nova that I can somewhat control how he moves with slow movements and guiding him by certain points on the body.
..buuut then like last week when he got comfortable under the radiator and anchored his tail to the pipe.. that was fun haha.
Yeah, I can imagine we will need to do the same. Just now it’s ok, but once nova gets his upgrade and Zero is out of quarantine + an upgrade we will be at capacity and potentially need to move.
How do you deal with substrate when it comes to spot cleaning and a full change? I can spot when she has done a full passing, but on a very dark bark substrate, I can't seem to tell when she's just urinated. With such high humidity, I don't really like the thought of missing some and bacteria growing. Any advice or suggestions?
Snake urates are white, so super easy to spot. You can also pick out the substrate in the surrounding area as there is often fluid too.
@@JensensReptiles thanks man. Appreciate it
Hey Jensen - another great vid. Can you post the link to the fogger/mister. TIA
I honestly can’t remember where I bought it from, I’ve had it for a while, sorry!
Hey. Do you have any tips or tricks on reducing the condensation on the glass? Bit of a downer when I can never see my BRB..
You can clean the glass with a vinegar solution, that helps prevent condensation build up, but to be honest, high humidity and glass...condensation is gonna happen
@@JensensReptiles thanks. What are the ingredients/ratios for the solution?
Her new viv looks great! Do you prefer wooden sealed enclosures over pvc ones for brbs? My girl will need another upgrade soon and I’m undecided on what to get! :)
Thanks! I much prefer the pvc enclosures BUT, Pixel my royal python, got an upgrade so I had this enclosure spare :)
Jensen's Reptiles ah I see, will most likely get a pvc one! That’s fair enough, no point wasting a spare viv :)
Absolutely, I’d have gone for a PVC if I was buying new I reckon :)
Also, where did you get the branches from? I am getting a pvc enclosure next week.
The black acacia is from Northampton reptile centre. The long cross branch is from a tree that was being cut down near my home
Jensen's Reptiles if I wanted to bring a branch in from outside, do I just freeze it for a couple days, do I need to seal the branch with anything?
There are a couple of things you can do. Freezing is a very good option. I don’t have a big enough freezer for most of my decor, so I wash and scrub it first. Then steam clean it with reptile disinfectant. If I’m worried about any contaminates, then I’ll put it in a large bag and use a mite spray. Then leave for a day before washing again.
Did you custom build the enclosure, or purchase it? If purchased, can you share any info about the vendor? Would love to have something like this, and I could build it, but buying is obviously easier...
can i ask was it only size that made you upgrade from the last enclosure ? im thinking about getting a viv-tek ? do you still think there a good product?
Yep it was just down to size and the available space. Viv-tek are amazing and when I have the space for a bigger one I’ll definitely be going down that route!
@@JensensReptiles Im looking into getting a rainbow boa, and started figuring out enclosures. Is the Viv-tek still fine, even though its a high humidity enclosure and wood, or would you recommend a PVC? theyre just bloody expensive in europe! if you have any ideas where to look, it would be great :)
The viv-tek is moulded plastic, there’s a wood panel in the roof where the lighting and heating are attached but it’s all completely sealed. Definitely the best enclosure, and the one I’d recommend for high humidity. Skittles outgrew the one I bought for her so I have her in a wooden enclosure at the moment which is doing OK but isn’t ideal. I’ll be getting another viv-tek soon though
How much roughly did this whole terrarium cost to set up? Appliances and all ?
Probably about £250 all in :)
mate, what and how do you attach the humidifier pipe to the vent at the back of viv ?
Sorry for the delayed reply! I use a piece of stiff foam board with a hole cut in it for the fogger pipe. I then cut the foam to the same size as the vent so I can wedge it in the back
@@JensensReptiles awesome thanks dude, great vids btw thank you
Hey did you build that cage yourself? If so can you do a video on making it or supply a link with a blue print and materials used? I love how it looks and would love to make one myself.
Hiya :) it’s made by vivexotic here in the UK. You can order them flat packed from any decent reptile shop here
@@JensensReptiles I'll have to look into it I'm from the US so shipping would probably be horrendous
Yeah, they don’t ship to the US currently, so the only option would be to check out shipping costs on eBay. I doubt the price would be pleasing though 😂
What do you seal the enclosure with?
Aquarium silicone :)
What do you use to keep the thermostat probe in place?
Just simple cable clips
@@JensensReptiles awesome thank you
Questin, will it smell like rainforest in my room because of the humidity?
The first couple days of new substrate always gives the room a bit of an earthy smell, but then it goes away.
How much did everything cost?😅 I'd like to get a BRB but idk if I can afford it
A few hundred £ in total
Super late sorry. But I want the mist to flow down from the top, how would you recommend getting it to properly spread across the top
It's a grated lid like a normal terrarium
what mister and heater are you using ??
Using a Repti fogger and Arcadia deep heat projector
Jensen's Reptiles thank you! Can’t wait to get my BRB! I miss your content, come back soon :((
What size tank do you recommend
4x2x2ft minimum for an adult
What size enclosure for an adult BRB?
Well Skittles is an adult, so this size and up. Depending on the size of your snake
@@JensensReptiles How long is Skittles?
What brand is the reptile fogger
Lucky reptile :)
@@JensensReptiles thanks
Do you not use the Vivtek vivarium for Skittles anymore ? I'm asking as I was thinking about getting one.
She outgrew it, and I had this Viv spare. But I’ll probably buy a bigger Viv-tek for her when we move house
Where can I find a tame BRB?
Either buy a baby and put the effort in yourself, or look for a rescue. You need to put the work in though, it’s trust building.
@@JensensReptiles thx! I'll probably buy a baby and work with him or her! 🖒🖤
Hey I bight a Brazilian rainbow boa my 3rd snake and ik they have a high humidity and they person I got the snake off said no uv and Hest bulb just a heat mat wich I don't believe so imma get a iv and hestbuld I do have alot of animals and inverts so I do know about em just thought on your opinion
