Sure beats keeping them in a plastic tub with just a bowl, paper for substrate and no hide. Some of these beautiful snakes and others will only live their lives in a small plastic tub. You have made a beautiful enclosure for your snake gave it things to do and tried to replicate it's environment. A happy snake is always a healthy snake.
I don’t think any snake prefers being kept in cramped quarters. I think that’s something breeders say to help themselves sleep at night. My pythons love larger spaces to climb and stretch
Its so wonderful that you’re providing both enrichment and vertical climbing space to a mostly terrestrial snake. There needs to be more of that these days.
For sure, I think people would be surprised how much terrestrial snakes with climb if given a chance. My kingsnake is frequently climbing his jungle gym of branches
I'm glad I found this video. I'm planning on getting a BRB in a few months, so I've been watching videos about the husbandry and your video is by far the best one I've seen yet, you know whats up, thank you 🙏💕💯
I love your viv it's amazing! Really nice setup. I'm planning on getting a female BRB in 2 weeks time. You can see that you've put A LOT of effort in this setup! I'm working on my Imperator setup up at the moment, he's in a 3 ft viv but he's just over 4 foot so ordered a 4x2x2 ft and planning on making it amazing. I appreciate videos like these, not only to see how well the animals are kept but as inspiration that may spark some creativity for myself and others. Brilliant video!
I really enjoy these videos, you get soooo much information packed in there and the focus on quality of life for the reptile over simply what they need to just live and breed is so apparent in the amount of detail and care you pour into every aspect of their home.
Great video! Skittles is a lovely snake and I adore her setup you've made! I've got one BRB currently and I'm looking to buy her a new viv. She's almost two years now and needs a bit more space. 😁 I definitely want to give her some leaf litter and vines like this! Thanks for sharing! 🐍💚
Yeah man it's Nagini like the snake from Harry Potter. I read the books every year. Btw this video got you an extra subscriber. I look forward to watching your future videos!
Beautiful snake I currently have 4 ball pythons and want my next snake to be a rainbow boa. I like your video and your snakes enclosure. I got some really helpful tips and pointers To make mine closure as cool
Awesome video. I still want to add a ball python and brazilian rainbow boa for my snakeroom and the only reason I didn't buy one of the snake expo was because I couldn't provide the humidity. This video is very helpful to get an enclosure ready for maybe next year.
I always find your videos so relaxing and educational, I've been I subscriber for some months now and you're quickly becoming my favourite reptile youtuber. Plus it's always great to see some British reptile keepers!
Man she is beautiful great colours lovely video you explain everything perfect.. my pastel royal is doing fine she shed twice now since I had her getting to know these wonderful creatures more & more every day thanx to watching your great videos..keep up ur wonderful work dude 👍👍👍👍👍
Hi. I just watched this video for a second time, and enjoyed it very much. I bought a couple of highly useful products which were recommended by Viperkeeper on his UA-cam channel. The Sensor Push measures the temperature and humidity, and transmits the readings to your mobile phone via bluetooth. If you couple the sensor/s to a Sensor Push Gateway, the information is sent via the internet, so one can check conditions when one is away. The thermometer and hygrometer in these is far more accurate than the usual items: it showed that I was misting my epicrates viv too much. (I have no connection with the company that makes these devices).
I've seen a lot of people bring their BRBs out in direct sunlight to show off their iridescent colours. But aren't they nocturnal snakes? And like you said, some UV lights could potentially hurt the snake. I can't find anything about this online, but do you think it hurts them to take them out in the sunlight like many BRB owners seem to do? How often can you handle BRBs in general? (Great video, very informative. thank you for that)
Sorry for the delayed reply here, been busy. Taking your snake out in the sun from time to time is absolutely fine. I wouldn’t leave them there all day. The UV exposure would be minimal in most countries anyway, so no concern whatsoever. My only point would be making sure it’s warm enough outside to avoid any thermal shock. You can handle your BRB as often as they show willing. I let me snakes decide when they come out unless it’s for a weekly health check or medical reason. If they’re active and exploring the enclosure, I’ll open the door and give them the option to venture out. They usually do. I avoid holding my snakes on feeding day and the day after, so we have clear boundaries and there’s no risk of regurgitation when they’re trying to digest their food.
Jensen's Reptiles wow thanks! Do you ever get mold or anything? If not how do you manage to not get mold? Or is mold normal? I want to get branches for my bp to climb he loves to climb. But I’m allergic to molds pretty severely. And at the pet stores I always see mold is that normal? Edit: Also any advice how to hang them and perch them up like that when I buy some? Bc I ordered an animal plastics for my ball python and it didn’t come with branch holders.
Pet stores are pretty rubbish when it comes to hygiene. Mould is not ideal and certainly not normal. Keep your enclosure nice and clean, with the right amount of humidity and ventilation and you'll be just fine!
Great video. I’ve just bought my son a Brazilian Rainbow Boa juvenile who is past the nippy stage. I haven’t picked him up yet so I haven’t got his enclosure sorted yet. Is it ok to use a mister with juvenile snakes? I read they are susceptible for RI. Thanks.
Hey Jensen! I was wondering, besides the snake, how much did this whole set up cost? I’m currently saving up for a Brazilian RB, and I do want to give it the best life, or at the very least average in terms of living conditions :) I’m having trouble with finding a price range for the basic needs of a Brazilian RB, so I can be prepared and have it be a healthy little snake. Don’t want to have things missing and my baby be sick within the first few days/weeks due to being unprepared.
I went a little "extra" on this enclosure, so the total was around £350 for the lot. It could definitely be cheaper. Bear in mind though, this is not her final enclosure, she will need double the space at least as she grows. So get a good starter enclosure, and save a little each month. That way, when your snake is older, you're already prepared!
Hi - I know it's been a while since you did this video. I'm inheriting my sisters rainbow Boa. Her enclosure is just a bowl and hide! Can you let me know what you put in this beautiful enclosure to make it so nice? Many thanks
Helloo! That’s super exciting :) The important stuff is the lighting, heating and temperature controls. So you wanna make sure you have decent overhead heat with a good quality thermostat and digital thermometer. Low level UV light, with a guard is also great. These guys need high humidity, so either a fogger or a spray bottle used daily is needed too. get yourself a digital Hygrometer so you can keep an eye on humidity levels :) And then go crazy with branches, cork tubes and pieces of flat cork to hide under. Substrate needs to hold moisture but not be overly damp, so a mix of coir, bark, and a nice bioactive bedding usually works well. These snakes like to burrow down and climb too, so the more space you can offer the better :) good luck!
What do you recommend to maintain humidity in a glass terrarium ? What’s the difference between buying a male or a female ? What brand / wattage of bulbs do you advise for the BRB?
Humidity is easy to maintain in a glass terrarium because they tend to have pretty poor air flow. Males and females only really differ in size. For heat, I’d use a reptile radiator or deep heat projector rather than a light bulb. 75w should be adequate
I live part-time with my mom and part-time with my dad so I won't be with the snake every single day would it be okay to have a misting system on the days I'm not with the boa. Great video thank you for the information :-)
With a rainbow boa, you don’t need to mist daily if your enclosure holds humidity well. One like this does the job really well, and I just give it a spray down every 3-4 days. You can use moss and plants to hold humidity in “zones” without having a damp setup for your snake. But of course you can use a misting system! Your snake will have the perfect humidity always.
I know rainbow boas typically need a higher humidity, but for something like a red tail would a similar setup be ideal, or should I do some tweaking for humidity etc.
Lower humidity for a red tail :) rather than the 80-90% for a rainbow boa, you'd want 60-65% for a red tail. Check out my boa setup video and you'll see the kind of enclosure an adult is suited to :)
Jensen's Reptiles Thank you so much for the quick reply!!! I’ve been looking into different setups and researching the snake itself but it always gives me extra confidence if I ask an actual human. Again thank you tons!!! And I’ll check it out right now :))
The wood is melamine coated chipboard, so no need for any treatment. And as far as mites go, it’s a chance thing. They tend to come in on substrate, so I make sure I buy from a reputable source as I know he will tell me if he’s experienced any issues
Jensen's Reptiles reason I’m asking is my son takes his branches and hide wood and puts it in the small oven he says just as a preventer against mites or possible eggs, just wondering your thoughts?
Hello! First of thanks for the amazing video. I really enjoyed it as usual. I was wondering if you would ever make a video about how you like your viv-tek enclosure and what your experience with the company was? I’m looking into buying one of they’re enclosures and I really value your opinion. So I would like to know what you think. I don’t live in the uk, I live close by in Holland, but my sister does live in the uk. So it would be possible but it would be a bit of a hassle to get the tank here. Thanks in advance and keep making the awesome video’s! You’ve tought me so much!
Hey! That's so sweet! I actually did an unboxing video about the viv, so you can see how it arrived etc. Viv-tek were incredible. Very informative, super helpful, and a brilliant delivery. I'm so so impressed with them :)
Ceramics are better for royals. The radiator gives good ambient heat without drying the air too much, so it’s great for a species that needs high humidity. Royals will suffer with humidity that high
Looks great. However, when the snake poops in the far back you will have to remove many items to get it. Not sure h ow practical it is, but it looks nice.
Could you keep a baby boa bci in a enclosure setup like that but in a wooden viv?? I'm getting a baby boa in the next couple of weeks in June and I'm looking for ideas for his 4x2x2 viv witch I no that he will have to be upgraded but its going to last a few years
@@JensensReptiles Im looking to get one in the not so distant future, im torn between the columbian and brazilian. There shouldn't be any difference from what i can tell, unless i missed something
would like to find the same enclosure as this but I am unable to track down this company. Did they go out of business? I was finally able to get my wife to agree to allow me to have a pet boa (Was deathly afraid of snakes) and she is now convinced to let me get one and If they are still in business Id like to buy one, any info you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated & most helpful. Thanks
In a bioactive enclosure, the snake provides a lot of the nutrients. If you start using strong fertilisers and pesticides then you may have some issues, but that would be a very odd thing to do. There are plenty of natural plant foods that pose no risk to your snake. They do come from outside after all 😉 Plant wise, it’s totally your choice, I’d just recommend plants that are hardy, so if your snakes decides to climb all over them, or sit on them they won’t be totally destroyed
@@JensensReptiles that makes a lot of sense! I know you're not supposed to use potting soil ofc, but I wasn't sure how the plants would get enough nutrients from nutrient free substrate (ie coco or sphagnum moss). Thank you!
I had everything but the plants for this enclosure before it arrived. So that was just a matter of working with it until I liked the look. Then I bought some extra plants for colour :)
Jensen's Reptiles I have a big box of space decorations that every time I get a new snake I just grab a bunch, but I'm never happy with my enclosures for more than a week of course I can't change it because I don't want to stress my animals out. every single one of your enclosures look like everything is where it's supposed to be as opposed to mine that always look cobbled together and I keep trying to get it right but I'm never happy with it and I can't figure out what I don't like about them. Is there anything beginner mistakes people make when setting up a viv I'm not seeing?
She’s very mellow, unless it’s feeding day! Handle regularly from young and you’ll have a very chill snake. You need to keep up the handling though. Stop for a few weeks, and they’re back to having a little attitude :)
Yeah, she’s tagged me a couple of times. She’s lightning quick, so that made me jump, but the bite itself was nothing to worry about. Like a few little pin pricks
I'm researching brazilian rainbow boas in hope of being able to get one in a couple years and Ive got two questions; if anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it: 1. how deep should their substrate be? 2. is it preferred to heat their enclosure with a heat lamp or a heating pad? I've heard heating pads are better but, depending on the depth of the substrate, they may not be feasible.
Hello, sorry for my sisters strange acc. look but where do most of you other people along with Jen if he sees this but where did you get your BRB? I've been looking around yet haven't found someone good..
Ok I am from good old yeehaw America, what the heck is dappled uvb? I get low wattage, but dappled is not a term I've heard used in the herp community here. Do you just mean add clutter?
Are all the logs and stuff cork bark? Does it get moldy in the enclosure since it has such high humidity? What is a good way to prevent mold on the logs and such?
Great question - I have a few reasons. 1. Aquariums don’t have good cross ventilation. The only air transfer happens at the top of the enclosure. Which is great for water, but not ideal for an animal that lives at the bottom of a dry aquarium. I prefer front to back and side to side ventilation for better oxygen transfer. 2. They’re inefficient to heat. Warm air rises and aquariums typically have mesh lids. That means warm air is lost at a faster rate, meaning my electrics need to work harder to heat the enclosure. No thanks! A way to overcome this is by covering a section of the lid but this affects air transfer even more. 3. For handling, I prefer for my animals to be able to come towards me rather than scooping them up from above. A lot of the animals I keep are prey animals and have prey mentality (fear of things moving overhead in particular). I don’t like catching them off guard or scaring them, so front opening enclosures, purpose built for reptiles are my preference. I hope that helps but happy to answer more questions if you have any :)
Jensen's Reptiles Cheshire, Manchester area, I’ve seen ads but are way out of the area, just need somewhere local to get one. And how do you order from Viv-tek as they don’t have a website?
I paid £275 for the viv, heating and lighting, and branch holders with branches. They've got all their prices on their page I believe. Just send them a message with what you want and they'll price it for you :)
Hard to tell without a bit more info. What are your temperatures and humidity?. Is the snake finishing a shed and going straight into shed again? What is the condition of the shed, all one pieces or fragments? How long since the last meal, and has any weight been lost?
@@JensensReptiles Humidity is high due to a wetbox. 90%. Temp gradient 72-78. Yes, shed and right into another. Feeding were regular but have revently slowed. It's going on three weeks now.
Hmm ok, any damage to the snake at all? Any lifted scales or signs of mites? In these cases I’d always recommend a vet visit just to rule out any health problems
@@JensensReptiles Nope. A blog I read said they can shed every three weeks as juveniles. Also, after a year old the feedings should be spread out more...every three weeks due to a slower metabolism.
I’m having a hard time finding a good enclosure for a Brazilian if someone knows of some I could get in the US and could let me know that would be great !
Hahah random comment on this vid! Tarantulas get absolutely nothing out of being handled. It just puts their lives at risk. If Eerie were to run and fall she could be severely injured or die. I'd rather not risk her life
Jensen's Reptiles so true. My friend holds her red knee and curly hair but she knows how to do it properly. It's not what I plan to do when I get my fireleg soon. Tarantulas are too fragile to be safely handled by a novice.
Harry Berwick It depends. I’m not sure if you’re in the UK/US but in the US they can start around $75 and go up to $200 or higher. I think it depends if it’s a baby or adult and it depends on what region it’s from... like Brazilian or Colombian.
There's this guy named Chris if you join the ball python people group on Facebook. He makes custom PVC enclosures that look awesome. I'm saving before asking for one for my python.
Hello Jensens reptiles, i live in the UK and could use some advice, is there a way i could contact you be it email, phone call or whatever suits you best?
Great enclosure (as always). I disagree re the need for UVB. Unlike many lizards, snakes obtain adequate calcium and D3 from their prey. In addition, rainbow boas are almost exlusively nocturnal, and will therefore get very little exposure to vivarium lighting. My fourteen month old female rainbow boa is a total couch potato: she scarcely comes out of her hiding places, even at night, and hardly ever uses her branches. Re acclimatizing to new surroundings: you moved her when ahe was in a shed cycle, which I think is inadvisable. The animal is inherently stressed at such a time, and I would prefer to move a snake at another time. I strongly recommend "Health and Welfare of Captive Reptiles" edited by Clifford Warwick et al. Amongst the references in this there is a link to a first rate site dealing with the question of UV light requirements for various reptiles. Unfortunately, the book is very expensive, as it is a collection of scientific papers, but I am sure serious keepers will find it very worthwhile.
Thanks for your input. UVB is a natural part of life and definitely has its benefits. No it's not essential, but certainly beneficial. As far as moving Skittles during shed, yes it would have been better to wait a day but sadly wasn't possible. That being said, I think you've misinterpreted what I was saying with her getting used to the enclosure. She shed on the first evening no issue. Hasn't been handled until today, and has settled in fine. She's just getting used to the glass at the front of the enclosure. Otherwise she's absolutely fine, no signs of stress. But again, thanks for your input :)

No drainage layer as the enclosure wasn’t bioactive. No live plants so no need for drainage. The viv held moisture without any issue

Each to their own eh :) I spot clean enclosures every other day, which involves lifting and moving everything to check around. It doesn’t take long
Please what for Temperatur have in the Terrarium? Please from spain ?
Could you keep a baby boa bci in a enclosure setup like that but in a wooden viv?? I'm getting a baby boa in the next couple of weeks in June and I'm looking for ideas for his 4x2x2 viv witch I no that he will have to be upgraded but its going to last a few years
Check out my BCI videos for my recommended setups :) a 4x2x2 will be perfect for a few years
How do you keep the coco coir moist? Do you move the bark every few days and spray the coco down?
I just spray the bark, the moisture travels down
Would the high humidity effect how frequently i should replace the substrate?
Not if you have the right kind of substrate and plant life
If you choose to not live plant, keep an eye out for any mould growth etc. Aim to change the substrate every 4-8 weeks
Thanks
what live plants do you recommend? As plants require nutrients in their substrate, will that not affect the snake?
In a bioactive enclosure, the snake provides a lot of the nutrients. If you start using strong fertilisers and pesticides then you may have some issues, but that would be a very odd thing to do. There are plenty of natural plant foods that pose no risk to your snake. They do come from outside after all 😉
Plant wise, it’s totally your choice, I’d just recommend plants that are hardy, so if your snakes decides to climb all over them, or sit on them they won’t be totally destroyed
@@JensensReptiles that makes a lot of sense! I know you're not supposed to use potting soil ofc, but I wasn't sure how the plants would get enough nutrients from nutrient free substrate (ie coco or sphagnum moss). Thank you!
Coco fibre and sphagnum moss won’t do the trick, you’ll need to use an enriched soil
My rainbow is 2 years old now and I’m wondering whether to upgrade him to an adult size vivarium say 6ft x 3ft x2ft what do you think?
That sounds fantastic! I’m sure your boa will really love that enclosure!
What would you say is an appropriate cage size for an adult?
Check out my recent video for some updated info :) you’ll see my enclosure size for my adult BRB there
Do you buy decorations and just make them fit or plan everything intricately?
I think just keep working things around until you're happy with it. I've got some enclosures that I'd like to change too
How is her temperament? I've seen varying reports as whether they are nippy. Thanks
She’s very mellow, unless it’s feeding day! Handle regularly from young and you’ll have a very chill snake. You need to keep up the handling though. Stop for a few weeks, and they’re back to having a little attitude :)
@@JensensReptiles Ever been tagged? If so, how was it?
Yeah, she’s tagged me a couple of times. She’s lightning quick, so that made me jump, but the bite itself was nothing to worry about. Like a few little pin pricks
When should I consider buying my corn snake a bigger cage, it’s in a plastic small one at the moment
General rule of thumb is that the width and depth of the enclosure should be equal to or greater than the length of the snake :)
I'm researching brazilian rainbow boas in hope of being able to get one in a couple years and Ive got two questions; if anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it:
1. how deep should their substrate be?
2. is it preferred to heat their enclosure with a heat lamp or a heating pad? I've heard heating pads are better but, depending on the depth of the substrate, they may not be feasible.
what is the name of your vivarium i searched them but i couldn't find anything
Viv-tek UK made it, but they’re not in business anymore sadly
Hello, sorry for my sisters strange acc. look but where do most of you other people along with Jen if he sees this but where did you get your BRB? I've been looking around yet haven't found someone good..
I got Skittles from a friend, however if you let me know what part of the world you’re from I might be able to help find you a rescue or a breeder :)
Do you work in television? I swear I recognize your voice from some documentary.
Nope, I don't :) wish I did though!
He sounds a bit like Daniel Radcliff, that's probably what you're thinking of
Ahhh so many people say this 😂
Where do you get all your logs and branches?
A few different online reptile shops. Northampton reptile centre and internet reptile being the main ones :)
How safe for children?
Any pet/child interaction should be supervised
Where can i get a rainbow boa from i live in the UK
Search for reputable breeders in your area. Join forums and ask for other opinions etc.
Ok I am from good old yeehaw America, what the heck is dappled uvb? I get low wattage, but dappled is not a term I've heard used in the herp community here. Do you just mean add clutter?
Haha yeps you nailed it. Essentially just make sure there are some things providing shade :)
Are all the logs and stuff cork bark? Does it get moldy in the enclosure since it has such high humidity? What is a good way to prevent mold on the logs and such?
why don't you recommend aquariums?
Where did you get your boa from there impossible to find in my area
A friend passed her on to me. Whereabouts are you based?
Jensen's Reptiles Cheshire, Manchester area, I’ve seen ads but are way out of the area, just need somewhere local to get one. And how do you order from Viv-tek as they don’t have a website?
Ah right, hopefully you find one :) and you can order through their Facebook page
Jensen's Reptiles And give them preferences on what you want, how much was your viv from there?
I paid £275 for the viv, heating and lighting, and branch holders with branches.
They've got all their prices on their page I believe. Just send them a message with what you want and they'll price it for you :)
How many gallons do they need for cage size?
No idea about gallons, we use different measurements here. But a 4x1.5x1.5 is adequate for a baby, with 6x2x2 being brilliant for an adult
what enclosure is that and where can I get it if it isnt custom
It’s viv-tek-uk. Check them out on Facebook for prices etc
Question: Mine has entered into it's third shed in a row. It hasn't eaten in a while. What is going on?
It is a juvenile...about 40 inches
Also, after a year old the feedings should be spread out more...every three weeks due to a slower metabolism.
will that cage be good for her for life?
Nope, she will need an upgrade
about how big of a enclosure would be good?
I'd say a 6x2x2ft enclosure would be good for an adult. So double this size :)
I'm looking for a Brazilian rainbow boa but cannot find them, I'm from Birmingham UK
where can I get rainbow boas?
Check out breeders or rescues in your area
Hi what size is that viv? Please can you link if possible
It’s 90x45x45cm, you can see all the options on Viv-Tek UK’s Facebook page :)
@@JensensReptiles so it is. Thank you. I was too busy staring at your setup to listen properly the 1st time I watched. Caught it the 2nd watch lol
What about ball python uvb?
3:00 god damn it cat. Go away I'm making a video on skittles! Lol
Hahahha, yeah he was pestering me for food 😂
Jensen's Reptiles cats man. They pester you for everything! 😂
I’m having a hard time finding a good enclosure for a Brazilian if someone knows of some I could get in the US and could let me know that would be great !
I’ve heard the Zilla enclosures are good. Check out snakedude1814 to see his reviews on here
Are you allergic to eerie's bite? You did say you don't handle her so is that why you don't or are you severely arachnophobic?
Hahah random comment on this vid!
Tarantulas get absolutely nothing out of being handled. It just puts their lives at risk. If Eerie were to run and fall she could be severely injured or die. I'd rather not risk her life
Jensen's Reptiles so true. My friend holds her red knee and curly hair but she knows how to do it properly. It's not what I plan to do when I get my fireleg soon. Tarantulas are too fragile to be safely handled by a novice.
Jensen's Reptiles stupid comment I know!
It's a risk no matter what, experienced or not. If they run, there's nothing you can do to stop them. Each to their own though!
Jensen's Reptiles yeah true. I'm not gonna touch my t when I get it. How's skittles in her sweet enclosure? Skittles, sweet? Haha!
30• Fahrenheit in the hot spot ?
Celcius
It bothers me that you say humidisy instead of humidity. Good video!
I mean...most likely a slip of the tongue. People make mistakes and all!
@@JensensReptiles great video very informative
When you got the viv did you silicon it or do u not have to with them?
Didn't have to with this one :)
How much are rainbows priced at
I have no clue mate, sorry. I got Skittles from a friend
Harry Berwick It depends. I’m not sure if you’re in the UK/US but in the US they can start around $75 and go up to $200 or higher. I think it depends if it’s a baby or adult and it depends on what region it’s from... like Brazilian or Colombian.
Heard albinos are at $25,000 in the us
Anybody know a good place to order a enclosure in the USA?
There's this guy named Chris if you join the ball python people group on Facebook. He makes custom PVC enclosures that look awesome. I'm saving before asking for one for my python.
Hello Jensens reptiles, i live in the UK and could use some advice, is there a way i could contact you be it email, phone call or whatever suits you best?
Drop me a message on my Facebook page if you like :)
When your talking about temperature your saying Celsius right not fherrinheit.
Yup
Hi dude
Hey bud :)
How's life. ?
All good thanks :)
Can you have my number??
Probably best not to put your number on the internet mate. I'll delete that for you now.
Did you say a hot spot of 30 degrees? I’m so confused
Do they really need that low heat? It gonna be snowing in its enclosure lol
We use Celsius in the UK, not Fahrenheit. 30°C is 86°F
It’s freaking Harry Potter
Huh?
But again, thanks for your input :)
john schlesinger as younglings they are incredibly arboreal so it's not ideal to keep them in racks.
