      Nacho is a total dream. He loves his food so has a great feeding response but has never once bitten me or even acted aggressively. He’s musked me once in fear, when he was very small, but that was my fault!

    Thanks for another great video. Re humidity: in the summer I can never get RH that low. I left the heat lamp on full for a couple of days after setting up my kenyan sand boa’s viv, to dry the (already dry) substrate as much as possible, but the humidity in there is still in the fifties. In winter there will be no such problem. He’s a beautiful snake!

    How often would you recommend feeding a 1 year old MBK? I have read so much conflicting information online.
    He was upgraded to small hoppers a couple weeks ago and I give him 1 per week. He's quite active and climbs around his enclosure frequently seemingly always hungry. I don't want to overfeed him though. Great video and lovely enclosure for Nacho.

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  5 років тому +2

      They’re greedy snakes, so will always seem hungry. At a year old, I was feeding nacho, an appropriate sized meal for his size, every week. Once his growth started to plateau, I moved his feeds to every two weeks. That was around the two year mark

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  5 років тому +1

      Hiya! MBKs can be a little snippy as youngsters (same as all baby snakes) but are usually rather well behaved. They can be quick, but once they trust you, they’re easy to handle not the whole.

    Great video. I am thinking of getting one of these, or a BCC or a Jungle Carpet Python. Which one would you recommend out of these three? Personally I am leaning towards the jungle carpet python as I like big snakes but would love your input as this will be my first snake :)

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  4 роки тому +1

      For your first snake, I wouldn’t recommend the BCC. Unless of course you’re prepared to be offering a huge setup down the line. These snakes are often cared for poorly, so it’s worth working with something a bit smaller initially to get used to what you’ll need to provide a large snake.
      Carpet pythons are great, but can take a little more time to relax when they’re young. Depends how much time you have available to spend handling your snake to help them get to know and trust you.

    • @Nocturne83
      @Nocturne83 4 роки тому

      @@JensensReptiles thanks. I think I'll go for the carpet or MBK. I am thinking about creating an entire room for the snakes so space shouldn't be a problem but I do see your point of starting small 😊

    Any ideas on why my 6ft long mbk has started getting big creases on his skin? Any help would be great.hes got plenty of room to stretch out.

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  4 роки тому +2

      It can happen for a couple reasons. Either he’s just curling up really tight when he’s hiding. Check his hides to see if he needs some bigger ones. Or potentially he’s a tad overweight and fat folds are starting to form when he curls up, leaving creases in his scales when he stretches out again.
      Obviously I haven’t seen him, so I can’t tell you for sure. But those are the two times I’ve seen that happen :)

  • @miguelportilla2079

    Hey! One question, I've heard some people say mbks are active during the night and some other people say they are active during the day. In your video I heard you say yours uses its enclosure at night, does it stay mostly hidden throughout the day then? Thanks in advance!

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  3 роки тому +1

      MBKs are crepuscular. Most active at dawn and dusk. So they’ll tend to sleep in the deep night and throughout the day. Nacho sleeps out in the open sometimes, but mostly, he’ll chill behind is cooler hide in the shady spots

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  4 роки тому +9

      Snakes will react if they feel threatened. Be calm and gentle and respect your pet and they’ll grow to trust you. You might get bitten once or twice but it doesn’t hurt when the snake is small. A cat scratch is far worse!

    • @JensensReptiles
      @JensensReptiles  4 роки тому +2

      Please don’t feed your snakes in a separate tub. It’s stressful and causes more cases of regurgitation than just feeding them in their enclosure. These animals have a phenomenal sense of smell and know the difference between your hands and a prey item.

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 роки тому

      The enclosure must be at least as long as the snake, with a good amount of width and climbing height. You can put a baby in their adult enclosure right away (4x2x2’ or bigger) as long as you fill the enclosure with plenty of clutter and coverage. Or you can start with a smaller tank and upgrade.
