I like how you kinda have no idea *_what the heck is a Yoshimitsu_* so your documentary to him is funny af Also this video alone is now one of my favorite videos cause I love Yoshi and subscribed
just a correction, Japanese names with the same pronunciation can have different meanings depending on the Chinese characters (kanji) used for the name. The kanji used for him in Soulcalibur is 吉光, which would probably mean something like light of good fortune. The meaning he mentioned in the video (light of goodness) would probably be these kanji instead: 良光
I remember first seeing Yoshimitsu (and the franchise as a whole) at a local roller skating rink that had a bunch of arcade game including Tekken 3. Child me never realized he wore a mask or was a ninja. Just thought he was a mutant man. Also thought the same thing for King.
I know I'm a bit late but as a former Yoshimitsu player, I really enjoyed this vid! One small note, but I think that instead of Independence Day aliens, his appearance was influenced by an older Namco game (+ movie) called Mirai Ninja, in which the protagonist, Shiranui, looks like a combination of Tekken 2 and 3 Yoshimitsu but with a visor. The game is pretty much completely forgotten but the movie's fun if you can find it and don't mind the low budget. They both have great soundtracks too.
Wow, that's extremely fascinating stuff! I knew some of Yoshimitsu's designs were based on one of Namco's older games, Genpei Toma Den (Tekken 1 P1, Tekken 4 P2, Tekken 6 customization "Kagekiyo" outfit), but I never knew this. I see Shiranui's helmet is even the same exact shape as Yoshimitsu's Tekken 3 helmet. Thanks for sharing.
@@Eli-C- Glad it was of interest. Yeah, a few years ago, I really got into that director's work. Despite being one of his oldest, cheaper films, it's quite a spectacle. The fact that the main guy was like my favorite Tekken character was an added bonus. Another funny thing is that if you played Tekken Bowling in the bonus features for Tekken Tag, Yoshimitsu and Shiranui have similar (if not the same) Heads Up Displays. The info on Genpei Toma Den was interesting for me as well, so thank you too!

@@siskohwat473 yeah i also heard about it but to be honest i am just gonna stay with the old statement for the joke of things but then again in yoshi's ending it pretty much showed one of the funniest scenes in tekken history which was like an anime adaptation of a guy accidentally tripping over a guy who is secretly crossdressing as a girl
The right handed yoshimitsu was born around the feudal era and the left handed yoshimitsu is from the modern era. SC and tekken are connected in the same timeline

I remember when I was 14 I told my girlfriend while we were on the phone that I am no longer Josh I am now... Yoshimitsu. Then refused to respond to my real name unless she called me Yoshimitzu. She was so done with me. lmao
I guess Yoshimitsu can be considered a pseudo gag character. Take him seriously but not too seriously is the best approach in both writing the character and enjoying the character.
I liked Bryan. I killed everyone with him. We played Tekken 2 for years, with no Bryan so Yoshi was good, along with Paul and obv Law with his spin backflippo kicks. Just began watching the video but isnt the sword named Yoshimitsu and those who wield it are named after it and not the other way around?
Yoshimitsu in Soul Calibur is the ancestor of the Tekken character.
I was kind of surprised you didn’t mention that
Yoshimitsu was my very 1st ever tekken character, i just pressed random and picked him, tried him, and fell inlove, loved using him especially in tekken 6 on psp and ppsspp, but i still havent had the chance to play tekken 7 (im poor AF)
You didn't need to mention that you hack
Tekken 7 is awesome, wish the Arcade mode wasn't only five fights but the story is awesome
Yoshimitsu never looks the same in any game I've seen him star in and I love him.
I am a fan of tekken and I have never known this stuff about my favorite character (mostly because I never put in the time to lol) But I thank you for this insight and I wish to see more fun videos about video game characters in the future my guy.
This video was fun, if you look for deeper lore and beyond (theories and such), I advise you check out AwpWilliams.
12:30 i have been rewinding this part so many times and its still funny "you've got it all wrong" *gets kneed in the hip*
I like how you kinda have no idea *_what the heck is a Yoshimitsu_* so your documentary to him is funny af
Also this video alone is now one of my favorite videos cause I love Yoshi and subscribed
My favorite soul calibur and tekken character because of his silliness.
just a correction, Japanese names with the same pronunciation can have different meanings depending on the Chinese characters (kanji) used for the name. The kanji used for him in Soulcalibur is 吉光, which would probably mean something like light of good fortune. The meaning he mentioned in the video (light of goodness) would probably be these kanji instead: 良光
Yoshimitsu has a rich interior life.
Dude is my jam. Love the flash and pizzazz. His winning animation shoulda been jazz hands. Love him
Yoshi is a type of guy who's wise and silly at the same time.
Even after being an Eddy main and understanding how to use his confusing ass moves, I still have no idea how to use Yoshi. That man is all over the place.
Love yoshimitsu in all the souls I can use every character really well except that damn maxi them nunchucks fuck me up can't get his moves down too much spam moves
Yoshi is sooooo fun to play with, just learn his main pokes and from there go have fun, he's a party character.
Oh my that "universal giver" quip was perfect. You deserve a Nobel prize, like, yesterday
Explaining Kabuki quite literally just made all anime make sense to me lol
1:35 Hey look, it’s *GOGANDANTESS*, GREATEST SWORDSMAN OF ALL THE DEMONS.
Funfact leo is actually a female character it was stated by the director himself
He needs to stop calling him gey
Funfact: director actually later redacted this statement saying that Leo was a female character named Eleonora Kliesen in the initial concept, but later the gender was changed to neutral. So yeah, another non-binary character in fighting games. Yoshimitsu just wanted some of these they/them pu$$y.
5:45 I don’t know what it is but that delayed scream before the explosion kills me.
This was nice and informative, without all the lame filler that most folks add. Thanks for sharing this!
Dude, this video style rocks!! Hope you continue to make more :D What about a video on Heihachi, or some other absurd fighting game characters?
You missed the part that Mario rode him around Mushroom Kingdom.
You do know Leo is a chick right? Its Dr. Dr Von Kleisen's daughter (the doctor from the steve Fox experiment ). She goes by Leoand dresses like a boy cause the Mishima Zaibatsu is hunting for a girl(her) to tie up loose ends ... check out the character cutomizations in tekken 7 and youll see it
Wow I never knew... I was wondering why he called him a gey ninja
Leo is a guy. He's referred to as a he in the character bio thing in Tekken 7. And Yoshimitsu referred to him as "he" in the cutscenes
In 7 yes, in 6? He's a she. Harada wanted to make a ambiguous character that could work on both ends of the gender spectrum. that character was Leo. There's a UA-cam video(other than this one) on it
@@willbig2010 Did it ever mention why they didn't settle on using they/them pronouns?
Oddly no. It would've been waay easier
My friends that study japanese said to me that Yoshimitsu means "light of the good fate"
Does anyone know what play that kabuki section is from at 1:10? That shit goes hard
I always loved Yoshimitsu and found his very long storied lore super interesting. Wait... His village was attacked by Lord Oda Nobunaga? In real life he attacked the Iga Ninja Village... Oh my god! Yoshimitsu was an Iga Ninja! Hell yeah! Always my favourite character. I always thought a solo stealth/hack n slash Yoshimitsu game would be amazing!
You should do a series about strange characters in classic games, or at least the lore behind voldo. Or a huge series for why Jedi Knight has had the best original star wars characters in the last two decades
Idk why the hesitation to throw Kazuya off the cliff, then randomly hitting the button to do so made me laugh uncontrollably.
I would've gotten bored but the deadpan voice explaining the lore of this guy got me hooked the entire time.
one of my fav over the top crazy characters in fighting games EVER. you made a great video, and you get a sub! keep up the good work!
I remember when I was 14 I told my girlfriend while we were on the phone that I am no longer Josh I am now... Yoshimitsu. Then refused to respond to my real name unless she called me Yoshimitzu. She was so done with me. lmao
Leo stopped breathing and he was reviving him for anyone who does not know.
Leo is a girl
Leo is a woman for one and yoshimitsu didn't do anything with her she stopped breathing and he preformed chest compressions
NAH WHAT LEO ISNT A DUDE??
@@mikaelmyers6135 correct
Your honesty and sense of dry humor are really as same as the cut of my own jib. Had my interest, made laugh and learned some new stuff in one go.
Eddie was fun but no one ever knew what they were doing. Unfortunately this was early PS1 days and most Saturday mornings me n my brother would unlock almost every character and then beg my Dad to go buy us a memory card, which he never did and made us turn it off before we went out. 🤦♂️😾
I need some weapons grade copium after reading that last sentence. Maybe he thought he was instilling a sense of acheivement EA style or creating "replay value". Maybe he was technically unsavvy or perhaps...he was just an evil monster 😭
@@ViperliciousOG Why would it even be sold without a memory card?! Unbelievable. Lol
A Robot Alien Ninja Helicopter Cyborg Samurai thing
When will he appear in dark souls
never, because the series concluded with III.
I actually did a Yoshimitsu cosplay build in DS3, so yeah, he can be there whenever you want.
@@SyckestBlah i'd like to see your character
I always thought the sword slowly possessed him, explaining why he looks so different each time 🤷♂️ guess not
This was hilarious, i ve never enjoyed reviews as much as this one... great job!
