Whenever I play Yoshi its just the voices in my head going "Do f,f1+4 it'll be hilarious just do it just do it." Fighting a 1v2 and the 2nd opponent is the intrusive thoughts
Once i saw yoshi's introduction trailer in this game, i knew he'd be top tier. After watching a few matches...i figured he was around S-tier before it started becoming obvious. Arslan is already nosing around him now. I've been a yoshi player too and always felt he lacked something. Not in this game
So happy to see you talking about this! In any fighting game, once you reach the level where your opponents start to read and predict you, it's really important to understand that sometimes the timing at which you do an option is as or sometimes more important than what option you actually pick. If your opponent doesn't know what option you're going to pick, but knows the timing that you pick an option at, it makes their defense and offense so much easier. Keep up the great content Phi :)
A lot of timing reads and mind games is intuitive. Same in martial arts. You have to train to do it without thinking because if you're thinking about it in a match, it's already too slow and you'll lose.
Yoshi's great, you either get the insane Yoshi's doing stuff you'd never even think about thinking about and its great, or you get one that's playing carefully and with fundamentals, which makes him look sick
PhiDX: "schizo brilliantly predicted the opponent's delayed timing, so he delayed his heal to switch into flea stance and catch the immediate heat smash" Schizo: "lol fuck it what if I jumped over this dude"
The one thing I felt the difference between eyemusician and schizophrenic Yoshi is eyemusician's combos and playstyle are very formal while shizo trained himself by fuck and find out method and plays like fuck it we ball....
Sin's fundamentals really are super good. His Yoshi is different from pretty much everyone else. It looks like he learned the character by actually playing the game instead of regurgitating UA-cam videos.
Got a TK, and the concept of splitting the timing into 3(.5) categories... Damn, so simple and obvious but changes how you view the game SO HARD. Thanks Phi
Its important to note that at 12:01 Yoshi's f1+2 will catch side step left. Definitely a hard counter to Kkokkama's attempted positioning there. Sick video man thank you 🍻
Unrelated detail i noticed but when sin got him to the wall on game 2 round 1, he also did three homing moves in a row to lock him down from stepping away from the wall before going for the unblockable. Probably made the tech roll seem more risky and subconsciously conditioned the get up kick. Not to mention the tech rolls he caught at the wall earlier.
"and what does Sin do now?.....he sidesteps" fuking hype, felt shivers from it, Phi you are a master at dissecting plays and making them interesting and engaging to see and understand
it also feels like Flash makes immediate timings so dangerous vs Yoshi. Flash on -2/-3 makes any opponent hesitate which opens Yoshi's gameplan so much
Gave you a shoutout on a Facebook page for tekken 8. Thank you for the training videos. I’m definitely improving with Lidia. My throw escapes are getting better too. I finally got to red ranks today
It’s crazy how applicable & insightful your videos are to newcomers into the fgc and long time sweats like myself. Love everything you put out brother keep it up 🤙
As someone who doesn't play Tekken but loves watching the competitive circuit, must say i love this video bro, considering that I don't understand most of the terminology I loved that you took the time to give explanations. Deff got a new subscriber out of me.❤❤
the problem with analysis is that you know the result already. there is no way the yoshi player incentived anything from the dragonuv player (im talking about Phi’s comment at 10:51), most players come in with a plan irrespective of what the opponent and feel it out. If the end result was Kkokoma winning by a sliver, the conclusion and analysis would be completely different. And if Phi Dx commentated this match in real time, the analysis would be completely different than watching it back. Sin could be just changing his timing as a strategy to mix his game up, irrespective of what KKokokoma was doing.
I think I agree with you. At 9:14 , Phi says this is the first instance of Sin cashing out on Kkokoma’s delay timing sidestep . I disagree. It so happens that F+1+2 with Yoshi hit, but I think Sin was just looking to use that move as soon as possible since he had low life and was in heat. He did not have a read on KKokoma. And KKokoma I don’t think was trying to delay anything here, all he did was sidestep first to get away from the wall and better position himself so he got clipped by Yoshi’s f+1+2. If they weren’t against the wall, KKokoma probably wouldn’t have sidestepped at all. There was no hard read here. Also, just because someone has been doing delay timing most of the round, that doesn’t mean or guarantee they will do delay timing towards the end of the round or the entire round.
I'm really happy you covered this guy! I watched Lil Majin's vid earlier and it was the first time I'd seen Sin's Yoshi... and, I was left speechless. This guy's gameplay was STELLAR.

I'm an old timer Tekken player that has always just played for fun, in single and multiplayer, and i guess, i could be described as just a naturally intuitive tekken player, (i'm just now learning the more technical aspects, as concepts to actively be mindful of, where as before i would just intuitively act on them, without even realizing it as a concept), but as i watch more videos on Teken and especially younger Tekken players, the more i realize how much of a, dare i say, science and art form component, there is, especially at high level competitive scene. Sometimes, when i listen to really "nerdy" Tekken players talk, i get this feeling like, "Dude... You sound like people need a PHD just to play this game". They really know their stuff man. Yoshi has had really solid footsies and counterpoke options even since T7 but now he's on another level with his buffed sword moves and extra mix. His 11, 21 and snake edge in NSS are annoying to deal with let alone all his other tools like flash, poison spit and especially spins that let him escape otherwise guaranteed pressure. If played with a killer mindset Yoshi is a very scary character.
