Yoshimitsu is probably the only active character that knows the entire Soul Caliber and Tekken timeline, which makes him staying on the sideline actually tactically smart. He stays alive longer by not getting caught up in the big main characters fighting each other, but is also active enough to make sure the world isn't going to be destroyed in the process.
I always look forward to the new Yoshi costume every Tekken/SC game. T3 costume will always be the standard of what he "should" look like, but that would ignore a lot of the interesting designs he's had over the years especially the SC costumes when they played him up more as a kabuki actor. His SC3 2P "octopus" design I thought was clever and is a personal favorite. The SC2 design was also neat with its "clockwork" arm that references when the Tekken-era character got a bionic robot arm.
Best summary of his history I've seen yet! It's hilarious seeing so many Tekken vets on their reaction videos to his announcement trailer have zero knowledge of the character. I'm a Yoshi main, and I'm hoping they've made Yoshi at least competitive this time. He had so many janky moves in T7, it was a true shame. He didn't even need true buffs, just fix his move list. Can't wait to give this one a try!
I would really love to see a Tekken vs Soul Calibur in the future. I know one relies on fist fighting and the other on weapons but seeing exist in both and literally use a sword gives me hope that it's possible.
@@yoshi596 It sold over 2.5 million copies and got a celebratory artwork by Bamco themselves. It did well by them, Bamco just doesn't want to compete with themselves because most of the same team works on both Tekken and Soul Calibur. We are not going to see marketing for a possible Soul Calibur 7, until Tekken 8 has been out for at least 2 years. Just like it was for Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur 6.
IDK what it is with Yoshi that always resonated with me but he's been my main since day 1...IDK if its the Samurai/Ninja aspect of him, his immense move pool that lets your creativity truly flourish, but one thing for sure that spoke to me is the unspoken rule of all Yoshi mains that is "if you think it'll look cool do it even it costs you the match" IDC how many times I lose to suicide's ima still do it for that one time when I pull it off LMAO
This was a really good video I never knew the lore behind Yoshimitsu but you took us through every Tekken he has been in and told his story in each game which was well explained so I subscribed to you and hope to learn the lore about other Tekken characters 🔥
I love this current design of Yoshimitsu looking nearly identical to his earlier look and I can't wait to see what he does in the story mode, especially his beef with Bryan Fury.
I'd be interested to see a Jun history video. I've been out of the loop of Tekken lore since 3, but now she is back for 8? It all seems kinda crazy how members of the Mishima/Kazama family never seem to stay dead 😅
Jun's Lore video will have to wait until after T8's release since it's not entirely confirmed if Jun is actually alive or will just play the role of a "Spiritual Guide" for Jin in the Campaign Mode
@@Hitomora oh look, HBTW just did a History of Jun video and Tekken 8 isn't even out yet. Maybe don't respond to comments not directed at you next time 😂
Not sure if it was already mentioned in the comments but the prosthetic is a mandatory requirement for each Yoshi as confirmed in Soul Calibur. As far as I remember the cursed blade will burn the users hand which is why each Yoshi ends up replacing their hand with a prosthetic.
I’ve been playing the Tekken 8 Demo, and it’s so fun. Going to be honest, I have not played a Tekken game since Tag Tournament, 4, and 5, but playing 8 feels quite refreshing, and fighting as Jin Kazama is such a BLAST⚡️ The awesome Netflix show, Tekken Bloodline, brought me back to the Tekken Franchise, which is why I anticipate for Tekken 8.
Tekken is my favorite fighting game so I really hope to see more. I've loved most of Yoshimitsu's designs, but I will always have a soft spot for his Tekken 5 look, since Tekken 5 was the first Tekken game I ever owned myself.
I really hope he plays part in the Tekken 8 story more than for a cameo appearence. He really deserves to have a big part in the story and it could happen with all the ninjas currently in the game there could be some kind of subplot
Agree, like the man holding the most dangerous weapon to mankind and in clan that beat evil spirit/monster in the old days, surely at least give this man important lore in Tekken story mode. I guarantee Yoshimitsu can give Kazuya a hard time beating him, obviously he won't beat Kazuya, but at least it will be crazy intense fight.
@jasperjasper498 well very close but its more modified. Mainly the head gear. 1. The head is pointier then in T6 2. The words on the on the visors doesn't move vertically. 3. There is no samurai neck guard version of it. This is just my nostalgia talking but to me its more of a variant of my favorite outfit. Also if the version is in there, sadly i never owned T7 to see it.
It's been a long time since I watched one of your videos I must admit. But naturally my man Yoshimitsu brings me back. He's a good luck charm I tell you. Just ask Awp Williams.
This video is such a perfect demonstration of how little Tekken 7 cared for its side characters compared to the rest of the series. Literally just gets kicked in the balls, that's Yoshi's whole story arc
Now that Tekken 8 is here, I can safely say ut is my Number 2 most favorite design. My number 1 design is Tekken 5 Yoshi. It encapsulates what he has come as perfectly. My 3rd goes to T3 and followed very closely to Squid man Yoshi
There’s some plot points that need ironed out. Michelle defeats Yoshimitsu and Kunimitsu in T1 as they both intended to take her amulet. Yoshimitsu was going to take it back to the clan as a keepsake and go watch over it: Kunimitsu just wants to steal it. He instead takes Ganryu’s ill earned money. In Tekken 2 he’s most likely defeated by Jun, Michelle again, or Heihachi. Kazuya captures Nina and puts her in Dr. B’s cold sleep: Anna as a reward for distracting Nina long enough to fail, gets her wish granted to join her sister to maintain her youth. Yoshimitsu’s ending must be after this. It’s also possible Nina defeats him as she canonically fights Anna at the Taj Mahal. Now it appears in Tekken 3 that T2’s Yoshimitsu is defeated by Jin or Ogre quickly dispensing him. Here he probably loses to Jin or Heihachi. Also, Nina does intend to kill Dr. B from the moment she awakes (an overlooked plot point) until Anna distracts her from doing it. From 4 on it’s clear he loses to the Mishimas or gets dispatched by someone else. In Soul Calibur these Yoshimitsu cannot actually wield Soul Calibur and Soul Edge would destroy the sword and themselves so it’s very likely they lose early on and don’t complete their journey. Also, it’s canon that Ivy, Cervantes, and Taki have more magical powers than Yoshimitsu.
random theory i thought of. heihachi is still alive. he’s the only mishima that hasn’t shown the devil gene. he’s going to come back as the most powerful devil we’ve ever seen, and take back control
Harada has clarified that the "thing" that possessed Jinpachi was merely an evil spirit. The reason that Heihachi doesn't have the "Devil Gene" is due to the "supernatural genetic anomaly" being introduced to the "Mishima Ichizoku" (Mishima Clan) through his wife Kazumi Hachijo, which in turn only passing to his descendants (Kazuya and Jin). In fact, Heihachi himself wondered if his relationship with Kazumi resulted in him being infected by the Devil Gene, so as a result, during one of his operations within the country of Sweden, he would impregnate a Swedish woman as an "experiment" to see if he truly was infected by the aforementioned supernatural genetic anomaly. The result of this experiment would be Lars Alexandersson.
As much as I favor his T3 design, Yoshimitsu looks great in Tekken 8.
We can probably create the T3 look because of its insane character customization
