Harada mentioning years ago that without the armor Yoshimitsu is basically a modest Japanese man in a suit is pure gold. It really suits someone as kind and humble as Yoshi.
i believe he also said that Soul Calibur exists in the same universe as Tekken and Prequel to Tekken Series, so think about that lol

@@danielcook7975Yup. The Yoshis from SC are the predecessors of Yoshi from Tekken. They're of the same Manji clan (the same that Kunimitsu was from)
@@danielcook7975Also also, the sword (named Yoshimitsu) is the exact same sword passed down from the generations of Soul Calibur to modern day Tekken. All the Yoshis wield it.

It's funny how if you changed almost any fighting game character's design as much as Yoshimitsu's changes, people would LOSE IT; But with Yoshi it's not only acceptable, it's expected-in fact, it's everyone's favorite part!
I don't know about Tekken Yoshi but if I remember correctly in SC it is a different person taking the mantle of Yoshimitsu in each game so it also makes sense lore wise why he always looks so different
Yoshimitsu is probably one of the few exceptions where not having a consistent design isn't a mark against him, though it also helps that he's in two long running franchises so it does give him abit more interesting flexibility in what he looks like.
As long as he has a sword, I mean...
It's disturbing how true that is. If Ryu didn't have his hachimaki in his default design for *one* Street Fighter game, or Scorpion's primary color was ever anything other than yellow, people would lose their shit.
Since Yoshimitsu is such an oddball character with wild gimmicks to his playstyle, his constantly changing design throughout the franchise kind of reflects that quite well. Not to mention that each iterations has some level of consistency to Yoshimitsu's original design of being a weird looking samurai cyborg thing in some way.
Fun fact: Yoshimitsu's alternate costume in SFxTK is stated to be him channeling the spirit of the very first Yoshimitsu, so, in a way, you're playing as SoulCalibur Yoshimitsu when you pick that costume.

Yoshimitsu would be such a good guest character. Dude literally impales himself so it’s such a good fit.
Kazuya maybe too. They’re okay with being brutal with him but it might depend if they want to mutilate him
Yoshimitsu has always been arguably the oddest/most interesting looking Tekken character ever.
I know he was in Tekken first but it always think of him as a SoulCalibur character first.

@@seanmcbay One reason I think that is actually common for Yoshimitsu fans is because comparably Tekken has a whole cast of diverse character designs and personalities which belong more to the modern era, whereas in SoulCalibur it feels like Yoshimitsu actually _owns_ his role in the series with "I'm the lovable crazy spinny sword samurai guy." In Tekken he's just "that bipolar freak that was a squid a few months ago" (or years?) As much as the flip flop of designs make him stand out in Tekken, he's also kind of lost his core identity because of it. Which is why it's great that they are going back to his roots that made him cool to begin with for Tekken 8.
And he is both Tekken and Soul Calibur character 😂😂😂

For those that don't know, Tekken and Soul Calibur take place in the same universe. The one from Tekken is a long descendant from the Soul Calibur's Yoshimitsu who started his own clan; in fact, the Yoshimitsu from Soul Calibur V was the first descendant refering as Yoshimitsu II. But that game got retconned, we should be getting another Yoshimitsu II another time.
I'd like to imagine that the Devil Gene and Soul Edge has some sort of connection.

@@EternalStorm796 I remember that back in the day, that was a theory. Specially because of the focus on "eyes" the two use to have. There's barely any Soul Edge in the world after years of fighting, with a just a few pieces left, but one of whatever clan Kazumi comes from (I forgot the name right now) put it inside his/her body. Kick starting the Devil Gene from the years to come, or something.
yeah I also think that it was stated that Heihachi in SC2 got transported back in time when he found pieces of the Soul Edge
I was kinda hoping that Zasalamel would be in Tekken era as well. Just to be the leader of UN, the intergovernmetal organization where both Ravens work with.
Yoshimitsu's constantly changing designs feel like an "organic" counterpart to Jack. I'd love to see Max do a visual history on the various Jack models sometime down the line.
T7 Yoshi is actually one of my favorites, its one of the only designs to lean into the space or alien theme and I like the tentacle/mask combo

Same here. I was and still am a big fan of T7 as i was with Lobster and the green one that looked like the unupgraded Lobster. It doesn't hold a candle to cheese head, which i'd love to see in a rendition of in T8, but an alternate that goes the space route would be amazing.
I know I'm in the minority, but I personally LOVE his default design in Tekken 4. Making him a japanese horned beetle is just sooooo badass!

I like the Beetle/Bug look. I think it's something about the eyes that I really like.
Yoshimitsu is so varied design wise, anybody can say any Yoshi is their favorite and it would be reasonable (Except maybe Tekken 1). My favorite is Soul Calibur 5, cause of the mask and hellfire theme.
I feel the same way about tekken 7, but also I'm not a tekken player, my favorite yoshimitsu is soul caliber 6

Agreed I main yoshi all the time sense the day I used him in both tekken and soul calibur I haven't used any other character
What I love the most about Yoshimitsu is that you can see how he started as a clear human being in weird bodysuits in the first two Tekkens, which also carried over to SoulCalibur, his most human look being Tekken 2's 1P, we can even see his hair, but after 3 they went ALL OUT. Many people think he's a demon or alien or robot because of how he looks and sounds but he is, in fact, an actual human being in weird body suits. Only his sword-wielding arm is mechanical, a gift from Dr. Bosconovitch.
Shout-out to Yoshimitsu and Athena Asamiya, the two fighting game characters to feature a completely different look every single game, possibly the two most redesigned fighting game characters ever!
Yoshimistu had some ancient medieval Japanese armor in some Soulcalibur games, including one of the versions had a Oni mask in one of his default costumes🗡️🗡️.

7 Yoshimitsu is amazing. The only problem is that out of all his designs, it's the LEAST recognizable as him. But if it was its own unique character it would be an extremely creative, memorable, and badass character design.
To be fair though can you blame people when he also gets a shark suit?
For me the problems with that design are four
There's no skelly face
It looks very futuristic like iApple suit yoshimitsu
The sword design its boring
And the Tentacles Physics in game are so wild
But at least its very creative
I always loved how Yoshimitsu is a cinnamon roll, but consistently has some of the most badass/intimidating designs
Yoshimitsu has always been my favorite tekken character. After all the character reveals I was really worried and pretty much sadly accepted that he wasn't going to be in Tekken 8 but after seeing that new trailer and concept art I swear I shed a tear. Not only is he back but he's looking the absolute best he's ever been!
I feel like Yoshimitsu in Tekken 8 looks like a mix of T3 and Soul Calibur 6 and Im loving it a lot. Definitely one of his best designs.
I don't play the Tekken games but every time a new one comes out I immediately check out the Yoshimitsu design.
I saw a UA-cam comment which described it best: Yoshimitsu always looks totally different in every game, yet every time you see him, you instantly know who it is!

Seeing the new Yoshimitsu design is my favourite part of any new tekken.
I can't play him for shit but I love Yoshimitsu. T2's opening video with the robot hand spinning and making the fist made me immediately interested in the character.
I remember being a kid playing Tekken 3 for the first time and instantly being drawn toward Yoshimitsu. He’s always looked the coolest.
Tekken 3 and 8 of Yoshimitsu are the best outfit design. 10/10. Great job Namco.❤

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was my first Tekken game, and as a kid I swear that Yoshimitsu’s design in that game was so cool that it immediately made him my favorite Tekken character. The way he fights was also so weird and ridiculous. He’s a great fighting game character. Cool samurai in heavy armor doing twirls into the opponent.

A really neat bit of lore for Soul Caliber/Tekken, is someone was asked how Yoshimitsu can be in SC even though they're in Tekken, and a very simple answer of SC Yoshi being the ancestor of Tekken Yoshi helps a lot
The visual history has become one of my favorite series now on the channel. Love it! I don't always agree with the ratings, but comparing my rating with Max's is half the fun of these videos.
T8 Yoshi being like an upgraded T3 Yoshi is a huge W.
Nothing gets me more excited for a new Tekken game than finding out what the hell they did to Yoshimitsu's design each time.
Yoshimitsu was a playable character in "Anna Kournikova's Smash Court Tennis" for the PS1 (Heihachi, Eddy Gordo and Pacman too)
Tekken 3 Yoshimitsu cemented him as my main in basically any fighting game he's ever appeared in.
Wow talk about a character that's super interesting to do a visual history deep dive on! I remember playing Tekken for the first time (Tekken 3) and he was by far the most cool/weird looking character of any thing fighting game related that I've seen. Even by today's standards he still holds up as one of the weirdest and most interesting characters in general.
My favorite Yoshimitsu designs are in Tekken 3, I love both. Also my favorite Yoshimitsu voice, which was done by Harada.
@@EsThirt33n I remember my sister playing with me and we would be amazed by his crazy moveset. We got into a battle and she was using Mistu and she did that helicopter death move from above and won the match and I was like "what the HELL was that???" and she was like "I have no idea, I just buttoned mashed" 😂😂 Characters like Yoshimitsu, Law and Lei were so fun just visually!

I personally still love the design for him in T7. It's out there and weird and alien, but it still gives off some crazy wierd ninja vibes and a cool silhouette.
Now that's my favorite fighting games character. Can't wait his gameplay trailer for T8 and Max's reaction.
As incredible as the new Yoshi looks, I really hope Squid Yoshi is a customization or DLC for T8. It’s just perfect for me.

I must admit my favourite costumes other than T3 Yoshimitsu was Soulcalibur 2 Yoshimitsu.
I'm definitely biased because it was my first Soulcalibur game, but holy shit the purple outfit stuck out so much to me that I HAD to play as him.
I really do love the wooden mechanical look, it fits the time period imo.
OG YoshiM was so awesome back in the mid 1990s when Tekken 1 came out. Then Tekken 2 took him to the next level. Ever since he’s just a legendary character to enjoy the character art. Plus his Ninja/Samurai move set is just so badass. Best Tekken character of all time.
Looking at Yoshimitsu’s Tekken 1 render vs his alt in Tekken 4 is peak “you vs the guy she tells you not to worry about” energy

I dont care if its unpopular but Beetle Youshimitsu is fantastic. Yeah its weird, thats kind of the point with him, but damn does it look cool. That skull and the way the armor is shaped is amazing

Yoshimitsu is just so interesting with how much they changed him. 1+2 were very samurai/knight focused, and then they just went more sci-fi
I agree that Yoshimutsu was that one character in Tekken they experimented the most with in terms of design.
Whats crazy is that all his designs look completely different yet you still know exactly who it is 😂.
Fun fact: Yoshimitsu's 2P costume from Tekken 6 is based on a concept art from Soul Edge (Soul Blade) of a character with a skull head (supposedly Yoshimitsu initially intended to be in the game).

While nothing will EVER Beat the Tekken 3 Design I appreciate that Harada tried to make the Tekken 8 as a Homage.

I think we need a visual history of Morrigan. Specifically from Darkstalkers to CVS2.
If you want another piece of lore to put the puzzle together, in TEKKEN, his sword causes him to grow stronger and stronger at the cost of losing his mind. He is literally going insane, and his fighting style as well as his outfit reflect that. He likely designs his armor himself. In T6, where you see that over-the-top costume, he realized he was going too crazy, and obtained another sword, the Fumaken, with properties that counteract Yoshimitsu's strengthening and maddening effects. In each game after he wields the two swords together so he doesn't devolve into a lunatic completely devoid of reason.
He's a rhino beetle in TK4 his alt was a remake of his traditional oni ninja from TK1
Yoshimitsu should consider getting into tokusatsu shows. HE DOES HIGHHHHH BUDGET SUITS
Tag team 1 was my game growing up, and I played as Yoshimitsu because he looked like a cool undead samurai.
That one bird mask looks like a type of tengu and if thats truely the inspiration they went with I really dig it.
Truly Tekken 3 Yoshimitsu broke the mold on expectations of what his future incarnations could look like!❤

Yoshimitsu it’s the most Evolved Character in Tekken that looks Different in every Game he appears but his Designs are pretty Sick and Badass and yet it’s really Confusing.
With Tekken 8 now out, my favorite is his default armor but with the multi-faced Asura helmet.

The design of Tekken 8 Yoshimitsu looks like they took elements from both the Peak Tekken 3 design of Yoshimitsu with the demonic look of Soul Calibur 6's version of Yoshimitsu with the blue armor

Yoshimitsu's Tekken 4 alt is actually a reference to Taira No Kagekiyo from the old Genpei Toma Den games, made by Namco!

I absolutely agree that Tekken 3 Yoshi is the best costume design ever made, and Yoshi’s Tekken 4 alt costume. He looked like a kabuki warrior with the red hair. Last but not least Tekken 8, they basically made a modern version of his Tekken 3 design. It looks dope.

@@ZinalaG59lol nope, you got it all wrong, my toad. Yoshimitsu's backstory is he is representitive of an entire clan and the title is passed down down after one gets too old so Yoshimitsu is not just one man but many.
T5 Extra costume Yoshimitsu is one of my favorite character designs of all time.
Reptile's design in MK1 is so for that made Max change his content.

Having only been familiar with Tekken Yoshimitsu but being aware that Soul Caliber also has a Yoshimitsu, I was kinda intrigued in how this was gonna be done. I like how both SC 6 Yoshimitsu AND Tekken 8 Yoshimitsu are effectively evolved and revamped versions of their previous designs (Ironically sharing similar color palettes as well, not sure if that was intentional or someone on both teams just converging on the same idea). One thing thats interesting is that it sounds like Tekken Yoshimitsu's voice wise is moving much closer to Soul Caliber Yoshimitsu's voice, just something that caught my attention.
