So lemme get this straight. Man is ready spaghetti to move out at a moments notice, but only his stuff. Not his almost-wife or children. Woman is hoping to buy an entire moldy home from a person she can't contact with money from a tax return she hasn't filed yet so her 7 year old living in the moldy environment doesn't have to suffer the long term effects of changing schools mid-year. I see nothing wrong with this, Judge. 😂😂

I wish the judge would have said, if you don't leave today, I'm calling DCF. The parents KNOW that the building is unsafe, and they continue to keep their children there. The plaintiff was willing to drop the $$ judgement and they still keep making excuses. Talk about HORRIBLE PARENTS!!!!!
I'm in love with Judge Simpson! He's showing more concern for these children than their mother. The guy isn't the father correct? Poverty sucks, no two ways about it, they're overwhelmed by this situation, I get that, but take Judge Simpson's sage advice. He is the most compassionate judge I've ever seen. Hopefully these two get on track. I'm thinking the guy smelled really bad by the way the lawyer kept backing away from him.

Why? The landlord caused constructive eviction meaning the home cannot be rented because it has been condemned. Thats solely the owners fault. If is was so easy Judge Simpson would have ruled and been done.

Yup I bought a second home for my children and when they moved out of state I have left it vacant just because I do not want to deal with anything like this.
my parents are landlords and my mom has a technic to weed out the filthy tenants, a day or two after they fill out the application but before she accepts them as a tenant she goes to their current residence on the pretext of "i forgot to check your ID, my mistake sorry" or something else minor and looks around. if they're overly messy she doesn't rent to them. that combined with checking work history really helps to weed out the worst ones
also pro-tip, the way they keep their car is the way they keep their house. if the car is nasty so are they! (although certian types of dirt in a vehicle are fine, a guy with a lawncare business isn't going have a sparkly clean truck fir example, Id rather see some soil and dirty work-boots than not in a case like that)

They want to stay there and put a purchase offer in on an uninhabitable home. But they got the "evidence of uninhabitability" in effort to absolve them of the responsibility of paying their arrears. How much money is she expecting from a tax return? She thinks that she's going to buy a trailer, do mold remediation, renovate, and buy a car. She only worked seasonally two days a week. How much could she possibly have paid in taxes?
Earned credit on the kids. I've seen those who paid less than$1000 in get a check for 10,000. Paid not to work and they have $20,000 (in their heads) spent before they get the 10,000
This wonderful system we have incentivizes having kids and not working. On one hand, I think it must be so tough to live hand to mouth like that but the reality is, there are people who work 40 hours a week who end up worse financially than these loafers. It's ridiculous.

WHY would you stay in a place with hazardous mold? My husband is a Bio-Engineer and asbestos, mold and water contamination is his expertise for over 30 years. He watched this video with me and just said WOW…these people should have been FORCIBLY REMOVED if they won’t voluntarily leave from the home if remediation has been determined! They keep coming up with excuses WHY they don’t want to leave…they should have NO legal repercussions for medical costs in the future because they FOUGHT to stay in the home!
She and possibly he are running a scam to get the trailer for cheap. They worked to get the trailer deemed uninhabitable, making it a boat anchor for the owner.

You can see this with the Murdaugh trial in South Carolina; during the murder trial itself, Murdaugh's side didn't have much good to work with, but the hearing for the mistrial motion had a significant amount of good stuff on his side. Poot struggled during the main trial, but he was nailing the mistrial hearing.

He isn't psychic! This is obviously news to him AND the court! Frankly, I'm disgusted by these parents fighting to stay in a place with such a bad mold problem! Especially with small children. That's extremely negligent on their part! You're better off in a shelter or on the street, where your children are safe, than in a situation where your children's health is being jeopardized every single day!!! The tenant clearly does not understand the cost involved in mold remediation. If she's getting so much back on her taxes, she's got enough to MOVE! Frankly, it's very unlikely a mobile home in this situation is worth repairing at all. MOVE ALREADY, this is borderline child abuse! Mold could LITERALLY KILL CHILDREN!

As for tenants, I get the feeling they are just in this for a free ride. Looking for handouts and maybe a lawsuit on the mold issue. I feel they feel they hit the lawsuit settlement lottery and using the poor young kids as pawns.

I can't understand why anyone would want to have rental property knowing deadbeats like this are under every rock.
Several reasons. One, not all renters are deadbeats. Two, people in this god-awful economy can pay 2k in bi-weekly rent but not get approved for a 1.5k a month mortgage. Three, with the amount of international investors buying up properties in the US, there's an artificial shortage of housing, meaning you can charge an arm and a leg for rent and still get people who are desperate enough to pay it. Renting is a cash cow. It'll die eventually, but the milkin' is good right now. Especially for landlords who know how to skimp, short-change, overcharge, and manipulate.

Ten years ago it was about twelve hundred for the same properties. Now it's around 2200. People around here think you're rich if you're bringing in more than thirty thousand a year. The math just don't math.

I was a 9 year old kid in the fifties and one day I was told we are moving to the next state. No discussion, no asking permission and no concern about me changing schools. Kids adapt better than adults so there shouldn’t be any real concern about their feelings. These “parents” are only concerned with their own convenience.

I'm a great grandmother and in my long life, I have made many many mistakes. Luckily, in many cases, I learned from these mistakes and developed personal rules that, when followed, resulted in mitigating and/or preventing messes. One of the rules is: Avoid situations that double down on relationships. Don't hire your neighbor, friend, brother in law, etc., to do anything. Find a professional that you don't know, and keep the relationship professional. Don't accept work from anyone you know. IF you choose to break these rules, keep in mind that the entire thing can blow up, permanently damaging or even ruining a relationship. Best friends and good partners are hard to come by (and families can be torn apart): Don't do the above.

There are so many questions that I wish would have been asked;
• When you spoke about possibly buying the trailer when you got your tax return back, why did you make it sound like you are expecting it any day?
• How do you even plan on trying to buy the trailer when you don’t even know where the owner is?
• What is so damn special about your son’s school?
• Is that school more important than your son?
➖But one question that should have been asked:
• Knowing about the mold and the dangers of living in it, why would you want to buy the trailer in the first place?
She knows that it’s dangerous because her children can’t sleep in their rooms. I wish she would have been asked, just to hear how she tried to spin the answer. She constantly gave answers or volunteered statements about something only to say something later that didn’t make her earlier statement make any sense. I don’t understand why Judge Simpson didn’t call her out on those things. This was even before the mold issue was brought up.

This is a scam they've done before. You heard the boyfriend say this will be another eviction on her. They know how to play the system. That's why he said he moved out but his fiance is still there. How is he gone and leaves his "fiance" alone in a moldy home? Nope, he knew if he said he's out that the judge would need another eviction for her buying them time. I'm sure they pay in the beginning then so knowing it's going to be a long process but free housing for them.
I think he was trying to capitalize on the fact that the original eviction didn’t say “all inhabitants” and just named him, and hoping that the judge would go ahead and evict him AND rule on his counterclaim for $$ so he could collect, knowing that they couldn’t kick them out. He was never planning on leaving.
Yes and I think it goes with out saying if he is evicted and she's not, he could easily slip back in and stay with her. It buys them more time.

I'm always floored by bad/non-paying tenants. "1.We can't pay rent. .2. The place is unlivable/hazardous. 3. We don't want to/have to leave." Seems like EVERY courtroom and judge faces the same excuses, especially when children are involved. Concern about everything ELSE but the kid's safety or health.

what a patient judge...what a nightmare of kept-secrets and lack of full disclosure on both sides. And these parents....sigh...
He's measured, thoughtful and fair. Almost no one could say he isn't. And when some viewers think he's giving too much or not doing enough, fast enough, he's following laws and foreseeing things that will happen in the case and end up potentially being more of a problem or helpful to no one.
