When I was 16 and working my first job in a dept. store, an Asst. Manager came onto me in the stock room. When I told him no, he pushed me back & ripped open my blouse. Luckily another employee came in and the asst. Mgr. ran out of the stock room. I didn't even think of calling the police, but went home and told my Dad! The next evening my Dad told me "you'll never have to worry about that man again!" I don't know what Dad did or said...but I never heard or saw that man again...I'm 67 now. RIP Dad!

I also had a similar thing happen to me , but mine was at an apt that I rented, the owner said that if I would give him favors that my rent would be next to nothing, then he proceeded to kiss me!! Not only did I move out immediately I then left a message on his answering machine, I think his wife or sec heard the message, I said you have refused to give me my money back that I payed you, first and last month rent, and if u don't give me that money back I will make sure the police and your wife know what u did, in that order!! I got my money back! I wish now that I would have reported him, but I was really young then.

Mine has been gone almost 30 years now-I’m at the age He & My Mom Both died at, a few years apart @63yrs of age, & I miss him Even More today.😪It Felt so odd, & even More Ridiculous, that it came to my mind that I was Orphaned at 37yo!!! I was struck by that, & had to pull off the Highway, to cry my eyes out for ALL the Orphaned Children. I can only imagine how that feeling upended their Whole World, they weren’t even old enough to understand, only to be tossed around, & too often abused as well. We’ve Seriously Got to Do better folks, & give children some of the Love We Received.😪🙏

This is also a huge reason many women don't come forward. They know how their brothers/fathers/uncles (or sisters/aunts too) will want to handle it, and it'll end up with them getting in trouble. You did the right thing & I'm happy your father had the 'resources' to put a stop to that creep, but SO many women suffer in silence in an effort to protect her family. I also fear for anyone who'd lay a false claim on someone. I've got a dashcam on my car to protect myself from liars in traffic scenarios - I wonder if we're all going to just record everything, all day, every day, in case the footage helps legally. Everyone would record what they see, with the option of retrieving or deleting their personal data.

She was very young & naive. I had that happen to me when I was 18 or 19. Luckily he took no for an answer. I was stunned & badly shaken by the incident, but I didn't know what to do. I had recently experienced a SA as well & did nothing. I had no family support & would have been shamed & blamed for both.
I was also told by my mother when moving out on my own, prior to both of these, that I would never make it on my own without her, that I'd be back. I couldn't risk being unemployed & having that happen even if I had thought to report it.
I have deeply regretted not reporting my assailant, but realistically know that I couldn't have with the additional abuse I would have experienced from family. I was haunted by that for a very long time, wondering if there were more victims after me that I could have protected had I charged him.
There are many reasons why people don't report, lastly being the abuse you have to face in the courtroom itself. Yes, it happened again recently & I did charge the man. I'm honestly not sure which was worse, the SA by him or the trauma of the questioning by the prosecutor. The crown never once stepped in even when questions were asked that are not allowed to be asked.
Knowing that I can never go through that again, I stay away from all men. I don't know how else to protect myself.

    • @Usernamesdontmatter1
      @Usernamesdontmatter1 Місяць тому

The problem with that is the presumption of innocence. What about cases where it's an innocent person being framed for the self harm by a victim or harm by another person? Should that person get their life potentially ruined because of what they were accused of but not proven? I've known people who were framed personally. It's an awful thing to go through and the people who lie don't often get punished. I agree violent crime is awful and more steps should be taken to protect victims, however I disagree with the language and methodology you are using. The fact you think the word perpetrator when thinking on bond and not suspect means you are coming into the court system with a wrong frame of mind.
Not that it has any bearing on this case since he was found to be guilty but I'm worried about the future of our court system when people don't seem to understand the idea of presumption of innocence. I'm not saying let violent or habitual offenders out on no bond, that's ridiculous, but having a blanket no bond for those accused of crimes can create other societal problems. Idk maybe I'm just reading too much in your comment. It feels more like raw emotion and not careful consideration that is guiding your policy suggestion.

There was things like this said to me all the time from him. I was really good at my job and everybody knew it. Finally he decided because I wasn't accepting his advances to fire me. Now I know you think that in government service as a civilian working for military that I have some rights but guess what. You don't. They have the power. Ironically he missed me. Had has aide call me and have me come and stand in front of his desk and he pleaded for me to come back but I didn't. I was 19 and didn't know better. When you're that young and working for the government for a lot of men this happens a lot and it happened over my career for a long time. If I knew what I know now I could have filed a lot of grievances. The good part was after that I had a lot of good men bosses both military and civilian and I had a long and storied career. The karma for me was he died early. And when I found that out it was like a cloud lifting over me.

This case appears to be a hot mess! Communication lapses galore. The fact that two jurisdictions are handling the one case doesn't help. Re: comments:
What's with all of the victim blamers on this thread? I'm beyond sick of victim blamers and their idiotic mentality. (Interesting how most, if not all of these types are MALES. It's unlikely they've ever experienced harassment or bullying in their entire lives, although I wouldn't a bit surprised if they're pften the perpetrators). Granted, the victim might not have made the best decisions. But, that doesnt mean it's okay to exploit, manipulate and/or someone because of their perceived naivety, vulnerability or just because they can. I concur that some women have lied about being violated or abused in some way out of anger and vindictiveness (the "woman scorned" notion). Their actions, in some cases, wrath, has done irreparable damage to THEIR victims. This is equally as egregious. HOWEVER, I'm believe that those cases are way more few and far between than most misogynists-the ones most likely to blame the victim-want the rest of us to believe.

I was in high school boces class for auto mechanics in the early 80's. I was going through my locker after class to bring my overalls home to wash and was emptying the pockets out. I stood up and turned to leave to get to my bus when my teacher grabbed my arm and tried to kiss me, I told him NO and tried to get away but couldn't break his grip. Thank god one of my classmates came back in for his book and he immediately let me go and I ran out of there. The second I got back to my school, I ran to the doctor's office down the street where my mother was working and I cried telling her what happened she drove us back to the school and raised holy hell, my class mate told them exactly what he saw. He was immediately fired and apparently had a past history. And no, he never once gave me any indication at all that he was going to do that. It was a complete suprise. My parents didn't want it in the news papers so they didn't sue, just wanted him fired. It didn't deter me, I am now a retired industrial mechanic. I will never forget that as long as I live.

In the 2nd case OMG I can definitely see him believing he did nothing wrong , and there are genuinely ppl who don't understand what he did was wrong and that's a problem. When you are in a position of power over someone they might not report you because they are scared of losing there job , just because you didn't have to use excessive force doesn't make it consensual , especially when she already said no beforehand. She wan''t playing hard to get then gave in because you were persistent, she said no and you kept pressuring her till you started attacking her and she was toscared to report your first attacks. I do think she told the D.A about what he was doing and they just didn't want to add it to complicate there case

The court has none of that in their records because the cop on the case didn't submit it and the other county didn't keep the dots connected due to jurisdiction (even though she tried to report it in the county this case is in). It's not her fault that good record keeping practices aren't being adhered to and it shouldn't be her responsibility to keep his offenses straight.

Rarely have I seen a loved one of a defendant who was told the full unadulterated truth, and continued to enable. Defendants tell their loved ones a version that paints them as the victim. This is so their loved ones will continue to help, whether financially or logistically or helping the defendant minimize and/or get around restrictions. This is why I like it when the charges are read in full and the family is in court to hear them. This "man" nearly ruined this woman's life (longterm remains to be seen). He doesn't appear very contrite, just angry that he is facing consequences for his actions.....which are genuinely beyond the pale. If she has all the evidence to back up her version, I hope he does serious time: 5-10 years in a Maximum security prison.

Once more, just like in the case where the 2 girls that passed and a 3rd was severely injured, the prosecution has failed tremendously. Why is this the 2nd (what should have been a big deal case), does the victims advocate, who is also a prosecutor mind you, have vital information that has not been shared with the prosecuting attorneys. This is once more a failure in the highest degree. It's not easy to be anyone to come out against someone that has done this to them, especially someone who is very powerful. I feel for this woman. I have been in her shoes. It's awful. Especially on this level where the people who should be keeping up on things to help you, have failed you. UNBELIEVABLE. DO BETTER. 🖤✖️🖤✖️

I didn't hear her state "attack" but he did show up at her house yet none of that was in the package. It seems another trial or investigation is needed to address his car drive by visits and how he used sex in the relationship. Maybe I missed something cause I didn't see the first trial on this case.
