90 Bday Amma Recipes ! Traditional Poricha Rasam ,Pudina Morkuzhambu &Rasam Powder !

- In this video Vijayalakshmi amma ,who will soon be celebrating her 90 Bday, shares with us her traditional South Indian Recipes.
For Poricha Rasam/can be served as a soup also (no tomato/tamarind/lemon)
Tuvar Dal (cooked) 4 Tbsp
Haldi powder a pinch
Pink salt to taste
Ghee 2 tsp
Urad dal 1 tsp
hing large pinch
Pepper powder 1 tsp
Chilli powder 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves a few
Pudina Morkuzhambu( No coconut )
Soak
Tura dal 1 tbsp
channa dal 3/4 tbsp
Daniya/coriander seeds 1 tbsp
Heat 2 tsp oil add
Methi 1 tsp
Dry red chillis 4-5
Hing a small piece
green chillies 1-2
Grind along with soaked ingredients to a fine paste
Salt to taste
Pudina /mint leaves a handful
2 cups of beaten curd
Haldi powder
Sundakai Vathal/turkeyberry can be fried and aded (Optional)
Tempering
Oil 2 tsp
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Tomato Rasam
Cooked Tuvar dal 3-4 tbsp
Tomato 1
Haldi powder pinch
tamarind extract asmall lemon size
Hing a small piece
Salt to taste
Rasam powder3 tsp
Rasam Powder
Tuvar dal 1 cup
Dania/coriander seeds 3 cups
Black pepper 11/4 cups
Jeera/Cumin seeds 1 cup
Dry red chilli 3-4
(dry roast all ingredients and grind to powder )
Jaggery a small piece
curry leaves
coriander leaves
ghee 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp
curry leaves a few
Jeera 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder 1/2 tsp

I made her tomato rasam nearly 3times, ,,from the time I watched this program...
My mom ,who is 92 now liked this rasam so much that she wants me to make it every other day...
In these days when the younger generation distance themselves from the older group...I find sister Vasumathi is awesome to make her mom share her Mine of information in cooking skills...which we don't find on any supermarket shelves or books...

Very pleasant experience watching this episode. Positive vibes were received just by watching 90 yrs. old grandmother cooking along with You Amma & your friend.
After staying in Singapore for a long time & watching many videos on UA-cam, I could able to learn few Tamil words used for the ingredients that we usually use while cooking like kadagu (mustard seeds), melagu (black papper), jeeragu (cummin seeds), vendayum (methi seeds), peringayum (asphoetida) etc. Still learning more words.
Reminds me of my mother...who was a great cook...and cooked till 90 and then sat back and superviser till 92.Left for her heavenly abode last year at the age of 97.R I P.Left me a compilation of her yummy recipes!
