Incredible, mind blowing performance by Page! Plus, this is just one song of a nearly four hour concert! Aside from being great, they all loved what they did, and it shows in nearly every performance.
The way this band poured their souls into their music is still felt in our souls. They loved what they did and we felt every bit of it. Robert Plant is my favorite frontman for all the reasons on display in this video, he doesn't leave that stage, he is up there jamming out the entire time, he makes his vocals such a great instrument when no lyrics are needed. He has the best I wanna say presence for lack of a better word, he seems like he was born on stage. Jimmy Page made that guitar an extension of himself, he sang to us his beautiful lyrics with that guitar. He found ways constantly to get different sounds out of his guitar. John Paul Jones was the everything this band needed him to be, he plays so many different instruments to perfection, it's truly a pleasure to hear. Then Bonzo, John Bonham I will never have all the correct words to say just how incredible he was, but on every drummer's favorite drummer's list , he is one of the tops. I'm still thankful this is the music of my youth.
This has got to be the tightest band ever. They gel so well, for how complex their music is... It's like all four of them are one single entity on stage. Truly incredible
the internal silent communication between all four of them onstage is nothing short of miraculous.tons of improvization, but allways in time as they wind their way in, thru, & out the songs.true masters of their craft.
The thing about the performance which makes it incredible is that it's a kind of a semi spontaneous prolonged jam. They had a loose template for the song but there a lot of spontaneous in the performance. The chemistry was so strong they could really feedback from each other and had an idea of "where to go". The part where Bonhman and JPJ look at each other as if to say "oh he's going there again" before the Achilles Last Stand sounding bit for example. They aways been called tight but lose (even their fanzine was). I've not watched it all for about 10 years but Jimmy is on fire!!! That is why I often to come him being a GOAT of some sort. He's all over the place and it's not drilled to perfection like EVH and later noodlers and shredders. It's all the pentatonics then modal in places but also visceral and sonic with the wah down but soft in other places, which is incredible feel and expression (something you don't normaly associate with him). It's fast (as F) in places and not alot of bum notes. People often mark Jimmy down a bit (not as smooth as Clapton etc) I don't know why, (jealous??). I've never seen anyone do it like that, pure energy and expression. He could also play blue grass, slide, twelve string as well as electric and the hurry gurdy!!
Yea Jimmy can pull the heart and emotion strings ,he knows what he's trying do do and he does it best !!!my all time favorite guitar player!!!!from heart wrenching soft love ballads like "Babe im gonna leave you "to since I've been loving you"to steeling guitar solos in "whole Lotta love"hes the most versatile and arranges and writes the best songs ever!
I love how someone pointed out that the violin bow section just comes from the depth of Page’s soul it is absolutely so talented and pure and whimsical.
JImmy Page was heavy into the occult. He was fascinated with Aleister Crowley. He actually bought and lived in his Crowley's house. At the beginning of his fantasy he starts pointing to the compasses four cardinal points with the bow, basically creating his magic. Then he slips into the fantasy sequence where he is climbing to reach the hermit tarot figure. Once he gets there the hermit is him and he is the hermit. They are one.
29 min tune in a set of other extended improved tunes. Busting out a bow for a total improv solo, unmatched to this day. The only reaction possiblee...GOAT live tune.
Nothing like seeing them live. Saw them in 1975 & 1977. It's such an intense experience. I still feel it watching it here. I can also remember going to a midnight showing of the movie The Song Remains the Sam. Needles to say it was one huge party. Nothing like the 70's.
That guy was ' the Hermit " was Jimmy Page , the Hermit is on the fourth album . That other stuff is from the Movie " The Song Remains The Same " a concert at Madison Square Gardens ,
The guitar work on this song alone is more output than most guitarist do in an entire career. The interplay between the members can not be equaled. The performance as a band is incredible. They were the best band on the planet at this time - for real
Truth: talent, and ambition meet, and have an affair with psycadelics and coke, .... this is their baby!....God Bless Zepplin, their babies got me through my "latch-key" childhood and teen years in a hardcore dysfuctional family, ahead of the social curve in the early 1970's, my parents were first to get divorced. It was Social Suicide back then. LZ's experimentation was cutting edge, their trust and respect for one another admirable, and dedication as musical masters of their instruments was inspirational and orgasmic. So blessed, that this was so much a part of my life experience on this planet. Jimmy goes in and out of zen with his sound, to showmanship of what happens when you practice your instrument DAILY. You become one with it, like a true marriage....so much fun for those of us who harnessed other talents, but don't have this one. Now imagine being on an Acid trip during this??? Parents lost their minds ( now you know where Guns 'n Roses borrowed from).... These Albums, WERE OUR ENTERTAINMENT! and they had an impact on Caucasian youth, mainly. We got to experience the depth of excellence. Imagining this blowing your mind at 16? There is one phrase that comes to mind whenever I hear this.... "Standards...of excellence"....so kids practice, practice, practice! oh and btw's, we would never insult Robert as "acting a fool" he was no David Lee Roth! His energy, range, vocals and experimentation were intrgral to the band's sound. They often went on long musical "adventures" to give Robert's vocal chords a little break or rest. If you listen to what he does with his voice, throat, it is every bit as much an equal instrument.
It amazes me that so many of the "respond" or "react" videos that I find on YT are to Led Zeppelin. It is pretty clear that the generation that is reacting to this music from 50 years ago, and is blown away by it, only proves how massive this band truly was. The Hammer of the Gods, for sure.
I've felt for a long time now that this piece, this fantasia, is truly an experimental piece of modern music, particularly the bow sequence. It is a shamanistic sound sculpture that rivals any experimental orchestral or jazz music of the 20th cent.
I grew up with this music, even though living in Romania, under communism. I've tried, by that time, to open minds for listening to it, so i really appreciate what you're doing here. Big hug from me, perfect stranger.
So what I think is that the scene where Page is climbing the cliff is his struggles and work in life to find reason because the man at top is the Piper who will lead you to reason and then when he gets to the top he finds out the the man in the robe is himself as an old man. Fucking genius as if the music wasn't good enough they throw that extremely deep philosophical concept into the film and on top of that the scene goes perfect with the music. These guys are true artist. The best band ever!!!! Period.
Dude Jimmy was playing Frodo climbing to Gandalf which was also Jimmy. It was genius just like the guitar playing. The Hobbit/Lord of the rings were huge at that time. Still are I guess.
Sorry man but you're wrong, it's the Hermit, that one is from a particular any Tarot deck. The lantern of Truth to light the way, the cloak for discretion, and the staff that helps him navigate tight passageways. I became a Led Zeppelin fan back in 1971. I know how you came up with that idea, from Led Zeppelin 4. But that artwork was not supposed to represent the Piper, it was off a particular Tarot deck.
You really need to watch the whole movie The Song Remains the Same it's a must for any Led Zeppelin fan it'll blow you away. "Dazed and Confused," is Jimmy Page's song. "Moby Dick ", is John Bonham's song. Bonzo has an awesome drum solo you got to see it. "No Quarter" is John Paul Jones's song. JPJ has some great organ and keyboard's. "The Song Remains the Same/The Rain song"is Robert Plant's song.
That steady, ongoing bass, matched with his organ work allowed such a strong rhythm background for the others to play off of. ❤❤❤and Bonham on drums, focused on such songs as Moby Dick….each of them made Led Zeppelin the strongest band for so many other to only try to emulate!
Congrats on reviewing the greatest display of guitar playing ever! I saw the song remains the same 21 times in one week in nyc when it played in the village 8st playhouse. Thank again for taking the time to review it
This is real music being played in analog, true musicianship, no production tricks, no gimmicks, no software. Real vocals, no auto tune. Todays music ought to come with a warning on the package, "WARNING THIS MUSIC CAUSES AURAL CANCER! AND IS SOUL KILLING"...
About 38 years ago, I had Neal Prestons photos from the 75-77 tours. Jimmy backstage slugging down the Jack Daniel's and Bonzo with cup of saucer full of rolled joints. It's amazing how they got out there and jammed.
its kinda like they were an eight piece band, as each one could play like two different rhythms/or noises at the same time- JPJ would play base with his feet as he's don't something on his organ or piano or three string guitar- Bonzo had all kinds of extra stuff going to sound like two drummers- Page could go from rhythm to solo to all kinds of extra sounds and beats etc- Plant could Howl and chirp like another instrument or play tambourine etc.. they were a mini orchestra but also knew to much sound was no good as well- they just had IT - You always- well mostly can hear them each playing something- just OUTSTANDING musicians...
The first time I seen this movie was at a midnight showing in 1981, when I saw Bonzo do that drum solo at the end of this song, I thought the film was sped up for a better visual effect, then, later, realized it was really Bonzo playing that in real time.
Never will there be another band like Zeppelin. The Greatest of all...all of their talents are second to none. The Devine said, "Let Jimmy sit to left of heaven and play for us all."
Well worth the viewing! That's Jimmy using a cello bow on his guitar. Believe it or not, he wasn't the first person to do so, however, it became synonymous with him. As others have mentioned, everyone in the band, including manager Peter Grant and road manager Richard Cole, had a "fantasy" sequence and this is Jimmy's. Why? Because the people filming the concert were documentary movie people and not used to filming dynamic action, such as a concert. They had gaps in the film so filmed the sequences to help bridge those gaps. Jimmy's sequence was filmed on a December night, with a full moon, on his property in Scotland. He said he had to climb up the hill several times so they could get the different angles and considered himself very fortunate he didn't fall and get hurt. He also said it was very tiring having to stand as still as possible for them to apply the aging makeup and prosthetics. According to Jimmy, the climb, he said "It was supposed to look like a really esoteric climb towards the aspiration of truth".
Yep..don't forget his property in Scotland was Boleskine house once the home of Aleister Crowley. Page outbid Bowie for the spooky mansion on the shore of Loch Ness..even locals avoided.
This is the BEST version, you are one of the few who show the "long" version. This is exactly why you (back then) went to concerts, no 2 the same. GOAT still badass as it was 50+ years ago. Of course live Loud, yet clear.... goes right to your soul!
jimmy page has said that his inspiration for using the cello/violin bow on his six-string electric guitar came from a 1969 show ( ``the supershow`` ) they did together with Raahsan Roland Kirk, where they saw Kirk`s bass player, Vernon Martin, do the same on a 4-string electric bass, and that is the night Page first played that way on a six-string electric guitar, and the cello/violin bow Page used he found beside Vernon Martin` 4-string upright acoustic bass and 4-string electric bass, between sets.... P.S. Vernon Martin`s son, Mikey, was a very good friend of mine from Detroit/Toledo who has since passed away ( bodily ), but who was also a very gifted and generous six-string electric guitar player,....
Timeless, strange, melodic and absolutely over-the-top. The band all other bands wanted to be. When Zep was at the top of their game, nobody, and I mean NOBODY could even come close.

A young black dude in a WRX stopped next to me at the stop light blasting nobody's fault but mine. I wanted to get out and hug him.
Beautifully said
Couldn't have been said better.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing young people like you loving "our" music!
Thankyou for uploading reaction and keeping this version alive it is deleted from UA-cam
And this is just one song in a three hour concert! Those guys were monsters in their prime. No one like Zeppelin in rock history.
Loved the interaction between John Paul & Bonzo , what a performance by a superb group .
Sublime, hypnotic, mesmerising LED ZEPPELIN, best band EVER ♥️.
Greetings from Danmark 🤜 🇩🇰 🤛
This has got to be the tightest band ever. They gel so well, for how complex their music is... It's like all four of them are one single entity on stage. Truly incredible
Perfectly stated; four merging as one
A one man band divided into four pieces..! Such talent..Never will happen again. God bless LZ....
You just played the greatest performance of any Rock n Roll band .. EVER!!!! LZ had NO EQUAL
Thanks for watching my friend
Agree 100% there is no band past or present the could pull this off , the level of improv and sensing each other on stage is from another universe
Each member of zep was a virtuoso, and they pushed each other to the limits when they got together. No fear, just fury synchronized to a perfect beat.
Why no one notice the poor edit at 6:17 you fans should cringe at the cut
the internal silent communication between all four of them onstage is nothing short of miraculous.tons of improvization, but allways in time as they wind their way in, thru, & out the songs.true masters of their craft.
I have revisited this one again and again throughout most of my life, and never tire of the 28-minute ritual. Tremendous.
Wow! The greatest band ever delivers. No words for this but: exellent, fantastic!
Goose bumps every time I hear this version. Every time
You are watching actual Rock Gods...Nothing better than classic rock.. it blows everything else out of the water.
Dazed and confused on of my favorite songs by the BEST BAND EVER …..
Since I’ve been loving you also…
Jimmy tears that cello bow UP! Morphs into scene from "The Song Remains the Same" movie and Jimmy turns into a wizard. Brilliant performance.
He really was doing his thing
Mandatory in any Zeppelin fan's DVD collection!!!
THE GREATEST BAND EVER HANDS DOWN !!!❤😊
Absolutely mind-breaking. Every time.
Just......OMG!!!!! NOTHING ELSE COMES CLOSE
Displaying once again they are a musical juggernaut... they're like a tank that can fly!
Truth: talent, and ambition meet, and have an affair with
psycadelics and coke, .... this is their baby!....God Bless Zepplin, their babies got me through my "latch-key" childhood and teen years in a hardcore dysfuctional family, ahead of the social curve in the early 1970's, my parents were first to get divorced.
Yes , Cello bow. What a performance. This wasn't even the finale. They have legendary ESP with one another.
This was epic
Thanks for watching
Do LZ “Achilles Last Stand” from the 1979 Knebworth concert!
you mean live Knebworth?
I’ll check it out
You really need to watch the whole movie The Song Remains the Same it's a must for any Led Zeppelin fan it'll blow you away.
I’ll def check out the movie
Thanks for watching
That steady, ongoing bass, matched with his organ work allowed such a strong rhythm background for the others to play off of. ❤❤❤and Bonham on drums, focused on such songs as Moby Dick….each of them made Led Zeppelin the strongest band for so many other to only try to emulate!
The greatest guitar performance ever. And Bonham going absolutely nuts at the very end is incredible. In a class all by themselves 😎
Congrats on reviewing the greatest display of guitar playing ever! I saw the song remains the same 21 times in one week in nyc when it played in the village 8st playhouse. Thank again for taking the time to review it
Thanks for watching I appreciate you
After watching this ..Is there any doubt as to who the greatest band of all time is ?? I think not
Arguee the toss with anyone BUT theyll NEVER win !!! ZEP .... GOAT TRUTH XXX
Love Peace and HUGE RESPECT xxxx
Thank you for always being with me xxx
This is real music being played in analog, true musicianship, no production tricks, no gimmicks, no software. Real vocals, no auto tune. Todays music ought to come with a warning on the package, "WARNING THIS MUSIC CAUSES AURAL CANCER! AND IS SOUL KILLING"...
Top 3 of my Led Zeppelin favs! BEAUTIFUL 😍
Glad you enjoyed
I enjoy you 🖤
Four geniuses on one stage = epic greatness.
About 38 years ago, I had Neal Prestons photos from the 75-77 tours. Jimmy backstage slugging down the Jack Daniel's and Bonzo with cup of saucer full of rolled joints. It's amazing how they got out there and jammed.
That is so cool thanks for sharing
all that noise from a four piece band....pretty awesome! lol
its kinda like they were an eight piece band, as each one could play like two different rhythms/or noises at the same time- JPJ would play base with his feet as he's don't something on his organ or piano or three string guitar- Bonzo had all kinds of extra stuff going to sound like two drummers- Page could go from rhythm to solo to all kinds of extra sounds and beats etc- Plant could Howl and chirp like another instrument or play tambourine etc.. they were a mini orchestra but also knew to much sound was no good as well- they just had IT - You always- well mostly can hear them each playing something- just OUTSTANDING musicians...
Four musicians at the very top of their game.
Now you know why Zeppelin fans think Jimmy Page is not from this planet.
Yes 🙌 zeppelin is amazing
Sold his soul to the devil. 😎
This is Led Zeppelin at the height of their powers.
The first time I seen this movie was at a midnight showing in 1981, when I saw Bonzo do that drum solo at the end of this song, I thought the film was sped up for a better visual effect, then, later, realized it was really Bonzo playing that in real time.
Greatest ever! These men were and are masters of their craft! Great reaction ❤
Never will there be another band like Zeppelin. The Greatest of all...all of their talents are second to none. The Devine said, "Let Jimmy sit to left of heaven and play for us all."
I can’t stop loving these guys
They are amazing
Love them too
Great reaction Dub. Loved it thanks . Live Led Zeppelin never hurts.😎👍❤️✌️🌼
Yes this was epic really enjoyed thanks for watching
This was def a long one
Have a good day
Never forget Jon Bonham. What a God on Drums.
Def worth watching
Appreciate your comment and the information you provided
Thanks 🙏 for this and thanks for watching
Yep..don't forget his property in Scotland was Boleskine house once the home of Aleister Crowley. Page outbid Bowie for the spooky mansion on the shore of Loch Ness..even locals avoided.
@@gazmasonik2411 indeed, normally I leave out the property/house association to avoid potential sensationalism as it detracts from the music.
Achillies Last Stand live 1979 at Knebworth!!!
Got it 👍
@@dubzer0649 you will love it!!
I was there!!!!
That performance was out of this world.
That band could improvise like no other. 7:31 is a perfect example of that.
Jimmy is the original guitar god....
WOW!!! JIMMY & JOHN.....All were great, but that's the only way they could be. Zeppelin is the GOAT. 😎
Led zeppelin is the best EVER!
Yes def
I actually met Jimmy Page at a golf course clubhouse in Orlando the night after he played with Robert Plant concert.
RESPECT for Led Zeppelin.❤
I know page edited it for the movie but even on the OG soundtrack, not sure why. The bootleg shows it was flawless, amazing version.
Best first big concert of a band EVER...THE GOATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They are amazing 🤩
It wasn't there first big concert. They had played stadiums before this infront of 150,000 people
genius of Page is...he keeps you...wondering what is he going to do next!!!
Glad you watched and shared this one. This is quintessential live Zeppelin.
Glad I watched too epic
Old school rock n roll.
The way it should be played
24:52 my favourite moment
This is the BEST version, you are one of the few who show the "long" version. This is exactly why you
(back then) went to concerts, no 2 the same. GOAT still badass as it was 50+ years ago. Of course live
Loud, yet clear.... goes right to your soul!
This version is quite a ride. Masters at work makin' it look easy. Best rythem section ever.
Def a ride but so fun to watch
It’s mayhem that some how works.
jimmy page has said that his inspiration for using the cello/violin bow on his six-string electric guitar came from a 1969 show ( ``the supershow`` ) they did together with Raahsan Roland Kirk, where they saw Kirk`s bass player, Vernon Martin, do the same on a 4-string electric bass, and that is the night Page first played that way on a six-string electric guitar, and the cello/violin bow Page used he found beside Vernon Martin` 4-string upright acoustic bass and 4-string electric bass, between sets.... P.S. Vernon Martin`s son, Mikey, was a very good friend of mine from Detroit/Toledo who has since passed away ( bodily ), but who was also a very gifted and generous six-string electric guitar player,....
24:50 thats mars bringer of war by holst!! jimmy dropping classical music into a jam session haha
Timeless, strange, melodic and absolutely over-the-top. The band all other bands wanted to be. When Zep was at the top of their game, nobody, and I mean NOBODY could even come close.
