I met this man in the early 90,s in Las Vegas. He invited me into his company at his table. He honestly was a big teddy bear looking person. @@Jamesthepilgrimjourney if we are talkin height yes he was on the small side, but weight wise he was rather heavy even at a young age of 18 he was already 214lb and as he got older his weight went up too. if we are talking smallest heavyweight of all time overall jack Dempsey was 6'1, but he was only 190lb that's nearly 30lb difference from mike tyson and the guy was fighting huge guys with weight difference much bigger than Tyson ever fought. without jack Dempsey there is no peekaboo style. while he didn't invent it his style uses the same function of shifting weight to throw hard punches to make up for height and weight difference. the peekaboo style is a refined perfected version.
Bowe - looks like a big, lumbering fella... his gait belies his precision foot placement, his agility in close-quarter combat, and his deadly accurate powerful strikes. Much 💛 for Riddick, thank you for all those great fights!
I grew up boxing in the DC area and I was being trained at the time by Riddick’s trainer (Marvin Simms “Coach Rock” also trained Sharmba Mitchell, Bill Joppy and Demarcus Corley amongst others) when he got out of prison and was planning on making a comeback. He definitely couldn’t go back into prize fights at that point, but i sparred him and he still hit like an absolute freight train. He was a pretty good dude to me.

Riddick Bowe is easily one of my favourite boxers of all time. At one time he had it all; all the necessary attributes to be a world champion who would be recognized by all boxing sanctioning bodies. In the end there was some unrealized potential left on the table by Bowe which prevented him from smashing through to the ranks of the most elite and greatest fighters ever.
He had so much potential. But apart from hollyfield who has he really beaten ? He did not fight tyson, mercer , Lewis , tua , ruddock , Morriston, Holmes (yes I mean the 90s Holmes) Forman , moorer...I'm not saying he ducked them but it's just unfortunate. His 2 title defences against a totally washed up miichael dokes and...wait for it...Jessie ferguson were horrible.
Good point, Jesse Ferguson was never elite contender status let alone a title defense? But the amount of punishment Bowe dealt... especially his pinpoint accuracy were devastating
@JeffLundy-ii8vi I'm pretty certain in Fairness to bowe he was gping to fight mercer untill shock loss to ferguson. Also, he was going to fight Lewis untill l his shock loss to Oliver mccall. Its a shame that those fights did not happen. That said, he clearly ducked Lewis at first when he beat hollyfield.
@@nightelfuser Wrong, its the perfect analogy. Bowe in his early career trained hard, but as soon as he became heavyweight champion he never had the same dedication or hunger again. The last fight that he truly trained like a champion was the 3rd holyfield fight. After that his career took a downward spiral at his own hands. Which is really a shame because he could have actually beaten Lewis.
That was a lot of respect for Holyfield. That last shot, Bowe could have throw in a couple more to make sure he’s out completely but he didn’t. Major respect!!!
Bowe"s punching speed reminded me of Muhammad Ali's punching speed, the only difference is, Bowe hit harder. In the early part of this video, i saw Bowe hit like Ali with 99 percent same speed. Holyfield is incredibly intelligent, tough, abd talented all at once. You could see these in his quick decisions, endurance, and agility. Even the great Ali and ferocious Tyson cannot boast of Holyfield's dimensions of the ability to absorb and give out deadly punches simultaneously.
This era of heavyweight boxing produced some real legends, and Riddick deserves to be up there with the best. Watching these old fights back just makes me look at the so called top heavyweights of today, and think " they are not in the same league " not even Fury could stand toe to toe with Riddick let alone any of the other top ten. And Daniel Dubois well forget it!
100% you can write a list of boxers in that era and it just goes on and on. Boxers like Ray Mercer, David Tua, Raser Ruddock for example and we have not got to the Champions as yet, so many good tuff boxers and look at now. That was the best Heavyweight era, now it's a joke.

I met this man in the early 90,s in Las Vegas. He invited me into his company at his table. He honestly was a big teddy bear looking person. Obviously he was a great fighter he was friendly, smiled alot and was just plain lovely. I'll always remember he was genuinely nice, unlike Larry Holmes who i also met. Tommy Hearn,s a lovely gentleman too.
The only boxer I met came to my house when I was kid he was one of my dad's friends. Roberto Duran his wife also enrolled to the same hair salon my mom worked in.
George Foreman the NICEST. Doubtful Roberto Duran understood me, 1991. Tony Tucker, big n quiet.

Ya gotta luv tyson too. He was so powerful for a smaller heavyweight. Pound for pound i gotta give it to Tyson as #1 of all time.

A lean & focused Riddick Bowe was about as good as it gets.
Guy had everything!!

His fights with Holyfield are classics.
The 90's was the Golden era for the Heavyweights!! It was just an era of Toughness
80s and 90s was the silver era and the 60s and 70s was known as the golden era. They both were amazing in their own right. 😊👍 🥊

Which is really a shame because he could have actually beaten Lewis.
