@@snoutysnouterson well firstly we have Welsh government and they're a joke 🤷🏼♂️🤣, no but seriously until 1967 the Welsh language was banned it's only been in recent years that it's started to become more taught and encouraged, the closure of the mines and and the treatment of the miners decimated the country just the same as it did in the north of England. I know we have the Welsh government now but that was a complete backward step for us moving away when we should have moved closer to the rest of the UK and was a result of Tony Blair knowing he would only enhance the labour vote and get backing and approval from the people who would never vote Tory after the miners strikes giving labour a guaranteed amount of historical votes because of the way Maggie treated them during the 80's. If you Google has Wales been repressed then I'm sure you'll find many examples 👍
I always think of Enzo Calzaghe as one of history's greatest fathers. He not only sacrificed his own chance at glory for his son but dedicated his whole life to becoming the best mentor possible for his son's passion. What a legend.

Yeah, I always wondered about the "goombas" in the corner coaching. I think Joe had an advantage in the inherent desire of a kid to live up to the expectations of his father. Very cool story, regardless.

@Kingqubaent not all Joe's fault, he was an awkward proposition without a huge pay day attached to him. Hopkins knew he could make more in America fighting jokers like Tarver and big names like del a Hoya, great fighter but tiny!
@Kingqubaent That wasn't Joe's fault! He wanted those fights. Jones Jr and Hopkins ducked him as long as they had the upper hand in the sport, obviously not because they thought that Joe was too good for them, but because they knew how good he was and saw little benefit in taking the risk of being made to look average by a bloke that hardly anybody in America knew anything about.
@@Kingqubaent Yes he did, but as others have said, that was not his fault. Ask yourself this, Joe was a recognised belt holder, WHY were the others not chasing him to get hold of that belt. But we all know how that went. Fair play to Jeff, he risked it, he never quit, a true warrior, but sadly never the same man after that beatdown, confidence and self belief completely destroyed .
@@Iamyourboo2Agreed. Calzaghe was very good, but his competition was lacking. Lacey was largely untested, RJJ was already on the decline and the BHop fight was contentious. Not shitting on JC, he’s an ATG in UK boxing but globally, not really.
@@MelGibsonFanthat’s ridiculous - he faced all the top global contenders in his weight class, over and over and over again. Not uk contenders - global. All the best their were. He literally beat every single best fighter in his weight class around the entire world, over and over and over again.
I was out for dinner a couple of years ago at a restaurant in London with quite a large group of people when unexpectedly in walked Joe Calzaghe, at which point everyone to a man in that restaurant stood up and gave him a massive round of applause! Long time since retiring and still so much love shown to a true boxing great!
Thanks to the Dad for showing everyone a example of a father and a man and for the showing the love of a son and loyalty. Together they walked through to victory. A shining example of a men.
I have lived all of my life so far about 5 minutes down the road from Joe Calzaghe, used to see him jogging and he trained most of his career in a small storage shed for the local rugby team. Very proud to see him get the credit he's due.
He was criminally underrated. This dude in his prime outboxes the champs of today like canelo alvarez with ease yet he's like disrespected as a true legend of the sport with the fact that he's a good man inside out, humble and righteous

I had been a huge boxing fan all my life, until the last 15 years or so. The judging kept getting more crooked, the great fighter’s & match’s were gone and boxing lost its magic. I’m almost 75 now, and accidentally came across this. I’d all but forgotten about this fighter, in America he wasn’t given as much exposure that he deserved. But this reminded me of why I loved boxing. A true champion, and with the fastest hands & combination’s I’ve ever seen, and not just with occasional spurts, but 12 rounds if need be. But the rarest of all, a happy ending, with 46 victories undefeated . They should make a movie, only it would be a true story.
Calzaghe senior giving up on his dream right as it came into reach to focus on his son's instead is the most wholesome story I've seen in boxing by far. He definitely got his money's worth. Two legends, father and son both.
He beat the best when they were way past their best. Good boxer but won't get the be recognised as the best because he didn't beat the best in their prime. Unlike Lewis or Mayweather, or even Tyson.
What a champion, 46/0 with no draws. A real fighter that never got distracted by drink drugs or women. His father was a hero to him. He gave up his musical opportunity of stardom for his sons goal of being world champion. Its like a movie script.🙏🥊
Joe was a great champion with class , Bernard Hopkins, was my champion from Philly, two greats going at it great respect to both men , Philly s own B HOP forever..... 😊😊😊😊

@@The_Reality_Filter Yep, he was a drug cheat, he may have fooled you but is not gonna fool me, important signals are that he absorbed many knockout shots without hitting the floor, looked fresh even after putting in non-stop hard work found after round, it’s an impossible task for a human body. It was the banned drugs that kept him going - strong painkillers and other PEDs. To be fair, he wasn’t the only drug cheat, boxing has been and still is full of them - Nigel Benn, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, wilder, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and many more. Sadly, drug cheating is unlikely to go away, the corruption dominates boxing mainly because of easy £millions to be made by both the boxers and the fixers.

It was an absolute joy to watch Joe fight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have rewatched his fights many times. I'm from the U.S. and Joe is my favorite boxer. I was always in his corner. He made boxing fun and exciting to watch. He was quiet outside the ring. In the ring, when he kicked it into high gear he was like a tornado. Joe's fight with Roy Jones Jr. is the only sporting event I ever paid for to watch on TV live. I was of course rooting for Joe. I really miss watching him fight. I don't watch boxing anymore.
In Wales I just showed up at the gym and had a picture with Enzo his dad/coach. He made us feel very welcome, very humble people. He just missed the mega years of middle weights in the UK catching only Eubank at the end of that era.
If only he'd been appreciated like you have and Americans woulda came here to fight him, his fear of flying and having a 60k stadium watching him he'd be so much more appreciated x
This is actually really well edited and put together. Thank you for not loving the sound of your own voice and having the commentary actually serve the content. So many people ruin their “documentaries” by inserting themselves as though they are the subject matter.
To have a dad like Joe had was such a gift. To give up his dream to help his son become a champion is the epitome of selfless. What a great show of love!!! RIP to a great man.
I was always a fan of Calzaghe, but I didn't know the full story of his dad and how he became his trainer. Such a great story. In addition to Joe's boxing skill, the writing of this vid was also top notch.
Cannot believe I never heard of this great champion until I saw this tribute. Someone please make this into a movie! And God bless his dear father. May he Rest In Peace.
Because he hid in Wales and never tried to challenge Hopkins or Roy Jones until they were old . They both put him on his ass, imagine if he actually fought them in their prime. I will give him credit for others but that was ridiculous.
What stands out the most is Joe's cardio. The guy was never tired in a fight. He could go 100 miles an hour forever. He also never neglected the body. His dad was an amazing trainer.
I'm disappointed we didn't get to see him much in the US. He was more than worthy of our attention. Great post, awesome family and I could watch Joe shred opponents all night Super fast, how could they defend against all his artillery.. enjoy your retirement. Dragon earned it

It's all BS. Joe didn't beat any of those guys when they were still in their prime and didn't even fight any great fighters while they were still in their prime. @@vladimircurkoski1455 You're that upset about this lmao? The fact is that Joe NEVER fought a great fighter who was still in his prime and that was by design.
@@guyblack You're joking right? You want to suggest that Joe was the one past his prime? Really? This is the level of fiction that people use when talking about this guy. Roy was a shell of his former self when he fought Calzaghe. He had already gone up to heavyweight and then come back down again to 175. Once he did that, he was never the same fighter again and this was years later when Roy was pushing 40 and had already lost several fights. Calzaghe fans try to suggest that he beat Roy when he was still Roy but nothing could be further from the truth. Hopkins was pushing 50 when he fought Joe so I don't think any explanation is needed there. Joe avoided those guys when they were in their prime and then showed up when they were old and past it. FYI, when Joe was asked about fighting Roy back in 1998 (when Roy was actually still in his prime) Joe said that he didn't want to fight Jones and an exact quote from that interview was "I know my limitations". So that's how Joe really felt about Roy Jones in his prime. All Joe and his father did was try to cherry pick big names of washed up fighters for his resume so that morons like you could pretend that he actually beat those guys when they were at their peak.

Have you watched the Jeff Lacey fight in full? If not you should, that one fight will show you what Joe Calzaghe was all about. Bear in mind that at the time Jeff Lacey was considered one of the most dangerous fighters p4p not just at Super Middleweight. He was a long odds favourite. Joe Calzaghe landed over 1000 punches in that contest and broke his hand on Lacey's head. Anyone saying he's a bum is either salty, a troll or never actually watched any of his fights.
Amazing speed, hits from every angle, has endless energy, and must train so hard to be able to punch that much w/o tiring. What a great man as well outside the ring. He never lost, and also was knocked down but then immediately attacked, his tenacity may never be matched and undefeated champion 🏆 congratulations Joe, you did it your way 👏
What a f***in legend. It's impossible to sufficiently give this guy the every bit of credit he absolutely undeniably deserves. Admittedly my attention was elsewhere during most of his amazing career, but I rewatch him as eagerly as I rewatch Mike Tyson. His dad Enzo brought a unique approach to boxing coaching and deserves just as much credit, you just have to love the Calzaghe's story. British boxing badly needs another Joe, but probably don't deserve one because of the overall ignorance placed on Joe Calzaghe the best Welsh ( British ) boxer of all time, a very humble man and a real champion 🥊🥊🥊
The biggest issue in Calzaghe's career was Frank Warren. Calzaghe spent a decade being hidden at home fighting a string of no name opponents. He was the worst example of the 90s stay at home title holder Brits who lived off Sky money and were protected from actual challenge. It's very difficult to gauge how good Calzaghe actually was. His hand issues were also a massive factor, this video shows the great difference in his punching style. I never was and am still not a fan I'm afraid.

@@sandman1347who hurt your feelings. Is it mummy because she has OF or Dady went for cigarettes and he's still missing
@@vladimircurkoski1455 You're that upset about this lmao? The fact is that Joe NEVER fought a great fighter who was still in his prime and that was by design.
Funny i thought both Hopkins and Roy Jones got Calzaghe at the end of his career with broken hands and zero power.
As a father who is constantly trying to build more bridges with my son this story strikes home. So great to see him stick with his dad who truly did his best to help him grow into a true champion. Great story. You were also correct. I've never heard of him.
Bro.. your effort into these documentaries is unreal and they are unmatched by anyone on YT. Best docs out there
Joe Calzaghe was the reason I started boxing back when I was in school. I absolutely loved it and got to see him live in Cardiff with my dad which was awesome.
Thanks so very much for posting this!!! I missed most of his early career and am grateful to know his history.
Me too!
Bravo Joe !🎉 you have proved to the world that big mouth and no show is not a recipe for success! Hope you install your hard work and dedication in all the young Welch boxers training in your gym ! You are a legend , no doubt in my mind !
I know that America wasn't interested in his weight class at the time, but this boxer was and will always be a bloody legend; one of the greatest all-round fighters to ever get into the ring.
Great boxer. As good as it gets.
As a newer boxing fan I’m so glad I got to know this legacy. I’m 24 year old American and never heard of this fighter and trainer. Great chemistry and dedication between the two!

I'm not exactly "new" but I don't believe I've ever heard of this dude. His fight with Roy sounds familiar though, but I have no memory of it.
@@psyseraphim lacy never recovered from the beating he got joe kept going all night no sign of slowing he did it all the time
Amazing speed, hits from every angle, has endless energy, and must train so hard to be able to punch that much w/o tiring. What a great man as well outside the ring. I'm not from Britain but hold Joe in high regard. He never lost, and also was knocked down but then immediately attacked, his tenacity may never be matched and undefeated champion 🏆 congratulations Joe, you did it your way 👏

THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!
One of the very best, I watched him throughout his careers & he was magic to watch. Respect to Joe & his Dad for what they achieved.
RIP Enzo what a sweet great dad and man he was.
One of if not the best father son combo in boxing ever. 0 loss prolly makes them no 1
Fought nothing but bums and senior citizens
Bro shut up u even know that's not true 💀
@@TBE99 that's AJ mate, a proper fraud
The biggest issue in Calzaghe's career was Frank Warren. Calzaghe spent a decade being hidden at home fighting a string of no name opponents. He was the worst example of the 90s stay at home title holder Brits who lived off Sky money and were protected from actual challenge. It's very difficult to gauge how good Calzaghe actually was. His hand issues were also a massive factor, this video shows the great difference in his punching style. I never was and am still not a fan I'm afraid.
Wow what a legend...deserves more respect than most of the household names in sports.
Every time joes story shows up in my timeline, i watch it. I must have seen it over 20 times, and it never gets old. The storys got everything, but joe and enzos' relationship is the thing that makes it special.
I was still shouting at these clips 20+ years later. "Get your f'in hands up Joe!"
Loved watching Joe fight. What a boy.
An iron chin, quick as you like and loved a scrap. Best champion we've had, hands down.
