Taught me what I needed to know in 3 minutes. Not just another way to start this chainsaw, but the proper and safe manner in which to do it. Thank you for taking the time to post this.
Best 3 minute video, probably saved my legs. Put that thing down and start it, thanks for the heads up. Love the walk and fade away at the end. Cool :)
thank you, I just bought CS 400 version and was wondering how to start it.. this vid came handy!
Just recently bought an Echo CS590 Timberwolf and when I start it I turn the switch on, then I pull the choke out 1st, in 1 pull it fires, Next I push choke back in and pull the cord and it fires up every single time. I've never used the compression release button by the way either, not once since buying it. I absolutely love this chain saw. My new Sthil 271 Farm Boss takes about 5 pulls to get it started and I store my saws in the house in their cases and I clean them immediately after each use every time I use them. Take care of your equipment and they'll take good care of you. Thanks for the video.
You should use the compression release because it reduces wear and tear on your pull chord, wasn’t so much designed to reduce strain on your arm
I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.
Glad to see so many people find success, unfortunately I’m not so lucky. Bought this a few hours ago, filled it up, started like a champ, let it run for 5 mins, shut it down for an hour and now I’ve been try to restart it for the last half hour with it not even giving a hint of restarting
Excellent explanation, thank you
Thanks this was very helpful I had never used a Chainsaw before
Crystal clear - nice job! 👍
Great instructions!
Great video
Wow! Incredible!
really helpful for users....
Thank you!!!!!
Good video. I think I am like a lot of guys that click on this video. I just bought one and and wanted to review how to start this thing. After all I am like most guys and never read the directions that came with this saw...
Good video but the whole choke thing is probably works for certain models, mine doesn't have that, it's a cs330t.
Thanks to you for just a couple minutes I just used my cs-490 for the first time and safely and successfully
Nice to know because I am disabled and have a echo 335cc chainsaw and hard to start on my own.
Thank you, that was very helpful!
My foot has always been too damn big for those holes...
Thanks for the help!
What is the flat spot on the right side of the rear handle for?
Thanks Josh, Very helpful. I'm OK with the ums. No problem at all. Other people need to give a guy a break about the ums.
I've never seen a saw as stubborn to start as an Echo. I tried every combo, choke on, choke off, brake on, brake off, clean pre-mix fuel. Not even a burp with a squirt of starting fluid and I had to give up with fuel running out of the muffler. The kill switch is not engaged, so I'm at a loss. Gonna try a new plug next, and have been reading that NKG plugs are junk. The saw is very low time and I bought it new. I remember being able to drag out the old beat-up McColloch ProMac and could have it running in less than 10 pulls. Thinking I should have bought a Stihl instead.
I agree with you 100% I have used mine once and can not get it started. Guess I will take it to a shop and ask for a class :)
+John Try this: Ignition On, Prime, Choke On. Pull until it fires once. STOP. Choke Off and pull until it starts. Let me know if that is the secret combination.
FiveCentsPlease my new Echo CS-370 is extremely difficult to start. The Echo manual says to push the primer bulb 8X which seems excessive but what do I know. Switch is ON, Choke ON and Throttle locked full open. It never even gives any hint of trying to fire up. I have never had anything this frustrating and I have Ariens, Toro, Stihl, Lawn Boy even Weed Eater and none of them are this hard to start. Plug looks good (tan colour) after I finally got it going and used a full tank of Tru-Fuel 50:1
@@brianbaker359 I found the right combination to get it started above. Ignition On, Prime, Choke On. Pull until it fires once. STOP. Choke Off and pull until it starts and his has worked pretty well to get it started. However I've always been a drop starter for small saws though that is unsafe. A neighbor had a Pro Mac 610 and I would not drop start a saw that heavy.
a drill bit and some hose, I fished in a direct line to the carb. If the choke wont fire it, ether will :)
When my saw gets flooded and I need to wide open the throttle to crank it, I take a wooden wedge to slide over the top of my shoe to press up on the throttle fully. Wedge drops out as soon as your foot is pulled out.
Wide open is correct. Then pull. But my piece of Echo crap floods instantly and 100 pulls won't get it going.
@@bluerider7922 Mine too, really a pain. I just tried Quick Start spray but still no go.
I have a question 😅 do I have to add addictive ethanol to the gas or no? Bought my husband his last month and he doesn't know.
You don’t want ethanol in any kind of saw. That stuff eats up the carb
My echo started fine in the summer. Now it's autumn and around 0 Celsius. Impossible to start it. Or even when it starts, it dies out. My petrol Ford and diesel Mercedes are fine even at -30 Celsius.
I don't know if yours has it but my CS-620 has an air shutter underneath the air cleaner cover that Echo recommends to engage when starting below 41F.
Buying a style next time
First, you should always fill up the chain and bar oil, get in the habit of this, and then the gas. Reason 1. The only reason is that the saw can run and operate without the chain and bar oil but it cannot operate without the mixed gas. Put the chain and bar oil in first and you will never smoke your chain, forget the gas no big deal, forget the chain and bar oil you will be reminded when things start to smoke.
Take a shot every time he says um.
Skip to 1:45, guy eventually started showing how to start the damn chainsaw!
dont forget your earplugs guys....ears are important and ringing in them is misery!! lol
Mine is brand new, its the most frustrating power tool I have, extremeley hard to start.
Thank you you saved me time and embarrassment
Glad to hear it, hope we can help again!
Tem no Brasil??
does anyone know where i can find parts for this EHO CS450 chainsaw thanks
Lets see if we can help you. russopower.com/pages/service-department
Primer Bulb?
Rush through the important last 30 seconds. Real safe
If only the Echo chainsaw started that easy.
Omm he likes ohm making his own ohm like he really omm because omm
If you're so in to safety you should wear chaps and not start te saw 10 feet from where you refueled and that sort of shit
And so yeah, when that doesn’t work? And it’s a newer chainsaw.
u said um 60 times wdf
Good stuff Josh, very helpful, hey where's your mask bro? Gotta stop the spread of the covid. Next time make sure you have it on please
7 year old video
@@jonanna980 we gotta move forward
If you have to watch a tutorial on how to start a saw you do not belong anywhere near a saw lmao. Never use 50:1 gas mix in a chainsaw. Idc what it says on the cap. If you want your saw to last a lifetime and get the most power out of it take off the muffler screen and run the saw on 32:1
Awhmmm...um...um...um😂
That's what I've been doing wrong! Not Ummmming every 5 seconds. Damn! oh yes, come over and get my CS 590 Echo started and u can have it for $50. 15 minutes of run time on it since new. I HATE IT !!
I am no expert but perhaps you are flooding it. Don't over prime it. That is what the guy told me who sold me this saw said was the most common problem.
They are trash saws. I lease the cs-490 I bought from home depot was. Never worked right over 3 years I owned it.
Who would start a chainsaw between their legs?? That made me laugh.
C8c8c
Must be some sort of a record, 27 times this guy says "Umm" throughout his whole video, Umm I've never witnessed anything like this before, Umm I don't know if'n I should believe him or not, Umm I'm a bit worried now. Ummm
Kinda sad having to watch a video how to start a chainsaw
Yet you watched it 🤣
Kinda sad spending time posting negative comments about an informative and useful video.
Um, Um, you show show to start the engine, um, at um, 2:54 in. And, um, you show it when it works. Um, what I want is when it, um, DOESN'T do that!
Doesn't bother me that he says "um" a few times.
UM UM UM UM UM UM UM UM 😩
Get to the damn point.
This is a 3 minute video
Get to the point!
that guy isn’t to smart he didn’t say anything about leg chaps or hearing protection
