I’m happy I preordered. The plane is good and while you only get AIM-9E’s, they are a good way to make your opponent move into a favorable position. Plus the MiG-28 skin is nice.
This plane is an excellent support fighter, and if you fly with a squad its a great distraction too. Most planes like the mig will get confident and try to turn fight you, but if you have an ounce of skill you will win every time.
@Young Flashy they accelerate fast but can’t conserve energy at all. Once you build speed in the f-5c it’s almost impossible for someone to chase you down or outturn you
I've heard a lot of people say it's op, but after flying it, it's biggest weakness is it's low speed compared to the competition. No one seems to realize this tho, so I regularly turn fight MiGs and win head ons with single Vulcan planes (104, Phantoms). It has a large advantage in head ons due to it's small size and the twin cannons. Hopefully we don't get a mega nerf due to bad players complaining loudly.
I tanked 2 missiles in this thing idk how like first crippled me and took out my right engine and the second took off my right wing but i could still fly i only died when they unloaded a full clip in me, i was not expecting such a light fighter to be a tank like this
I had a clip that I left out that shows me taking a missile and a bunch of rounds and still not being forced out of the plane. Albeit, I was out of control and on fire, but there are many examples where I receive nasty damage and keep truckin'. I also rarely catch fire.
Great video. You left out the 6mm armor plating under the cockpit and engine. Not game breaking, but sometimes means the difference between returning to the airfield or being sent back to the hangar by flak/missile bursts and not shared by the other F5s.
Tips on this plane, (at least the F5E since I only have that, but still mostly stock and applies somewhat here too anyway): - take armoured target belts. These rounds seem to do a lot more damage. A hit nearly always crits, or starts a fire. - it's got 2 guns with 560 ammo total, this is insane amounts. Don't tape the trigger down but a little longer burst is fine. - energy retention is insane, won't outrun migs but 1 turn and you lost barely any energy and they lost a lot. - while the low speed acceleration is much better on the f5e. Like by a lot. The high speed one is not a huge difference. It will matter though. - this thing will point where you want it too. You can make some crazy shots you wouldn't think you could get. - low speed handling is quite good. At least better then most others. You can probably win stallfights (I usually have to even turn the afterburner off sometimes on the e to prevent and overshoot)
And to add, general tip: if you crit and pass an enemy. Do not turn around for them. It is absolutely not worth going after a damaged enemy. At top tier damage affects the performance so segnificantly it is way better to ignore them and go for another target. Even if it ends up not giving you the kill for the first target. This applies to missiles too, if there is 2 targets at equal distance from you. If you fire your missile at 1 of them and there is a reasonable chance it hits. Assume it will hit. A plane that might be hit by a missile is less valuable then a plane that will definitely not be
It is quite enjoyable to fly and very good at ground striking and it's maneuverability is superb . Id recommend the 2 bullpup and 3 750 pound bombs as well as missiles it is my favorite but taking just bullpups is solid

Never had a jet before this… turns out jets is my forte and I’m using this puppy to grind out the tree. It’s a far cry from what I’m used too as prop pilot but it kicks ass. I feel the need… the need… for speed! Never have a game where I don’t get at least one kill and I rarely die. The weird thing is I can feel at this BR the lack of dogfighting skill, like very few people actually know how to at all! Fly straight out of the missile and turn into my guns thanks buddy! Love it!
I’m thinking of buying this jet, I don’t have any experience in jets kinda like what you said. I’m hating props. I’m tier 4 props now but I want to buy this, I just hear so many people saying lower level people shouldn’t. I think I’m only level 13 or 14. Think I should? I’m highly considering it so i can grind out the American tech tree without having to use the horrible props.

I used to play years ago and picked the game up again recently. I only have a couple very low BR prem. planes and haven't gotten far into tanks, but as I've just started edging into jets on the tech tree I was hoping to find a way to speed up that stretch of rank V, VI, and VII planes in addition to filling the gaps in the tech tree. A lot of new planes have been added apparently, but I guess that's to be expected after a 5ish years of not playing. I think you've convinced me to go ahead and hop on the F-5C. The maneuverability particularly interests me as the (somewhat newly unlocked to me) F8F Bearcat tends to tickle my fancy with its agility. Probably wouldn't hurt for me to have a nice meaty tank (XM-1) to start grinding that tree too. I'm rambling but I guess I felt like sharing. Thanks for the vid and for helping me decide!
You could kill the entire team with the amount of rounds you have. In case you have pretty good aiming, it would take you 20 rounds to finish someone straight in about 600-800M

The F-5C is pretty good, average if not better. For anyone who's new to air combat and picking this up however, take some time to practice in a custom battle. It's a big help to know what your plane is gonna do
In regards to the cannons, while you only get 560 rounds of ammo, most planes with larger rounds like 30mm never seem to go over 300 rounds. I have only really checked the other premium jets tho, so there may be some of that caliber with comparable ammo to the F-5C. It seems the trade off for more damage is less fire time to work with. Edit: The A-10 is an exclusion, as it is literally built to be a flying gun lol.
Seconded my most played Jet because it's just so nice having premium, helps that it's the 2nd best dog fighter for its tier only beaten by the Mirage specifically the C because C stands for Chad. Noting both fighter.
I pre-ordered this as a birthday present to myself. I only have a couple of missions in it but so far I like it. I agree with the points in the video. Good points in the ability to use flaps at high speed, I will have to try that.
@@badstion7416 if you are not used to jets, F5C isnt a good choice for now. It's really good in hands of Experienced pilots but not for new pilots, it's not very forgiving. AV8A is much friendlier, and is also really good for grinding.

I'm torn. On one hand I promised myself I would never spend real money on War Thunder, but after test flying the F-5C for free... I really want this plane. And that was before I found out about the MiG 28 skin.
I personally don’t have the f5c but knowing how it plays you need top teir jet experience, it’s a non forgiving hard jet to fly even just messing around in test flights, av8a is a super grinder but not as fun I’ve heard from a lot of friends that have both but also a lot easier to use, if you play everyday though even with no premiums you will eventually get to top tier
@@littlecreeper8543 You will eventually get top tier but it will take months upon months to actually get to the phantom or F5e premium shortens it down to possibly 2-3 months if you take breaks in between
So you said the A2D-1 was a good grinder at the end of the video. Ever since the Sk.60 was added, I'm going to have to disagree with that. Since you go against it every time and every time they always go after the A2Ds and 9 times out of 10 there's nothing you can really do. Other than that, good video and thanks for the tips.
Like the Top Gun red bandit skins. I need that! F5 is my favorite plane to fly for dog fights. This plane is pretty amazing as long as u save ur afterburn. U run out of that and u in trouble.

Can you zoom in when firing to bullpups? It seems quite useless to have guided ATGMS when you can't see the tanks you are trying to shoot at outside of like 1 km.
Coming from arcade air without any jets and right now i'm doing better with the Su7 BMK than F-5C in RBs :/ My highest rp with Su was 44k (+30 % rp bonus)! :)

this thing has literally no weaknesses when going against an a-5c. out turns it, faster than it, better climb rate and better energy retention. only thing is its slightly less quick on acceleration.
December 2022, Be careful buying this, you can easily die in 1v1s so learn to pick out enemies and only fire off your missiles when necessary, if you are wanting to get the f-14 though or grind usa tech tree learn the plane because using this plane is the only option.

My question is: How do you fly the aircraft without the horizon moving if you know what I mean? It looks so cool, only the aircraft is moving, not the horizon. Can I change that in the settings?
Do not buy it if you just started. You will get clapped like there is no tomorrow. Play some games and get level 20. Then think again. The bottom is normally c I think.

Yes it is. If u have premium, it has the highest SL multiplier in air rn shared by only a few planes. Also if you're xbox, dont know about ps4, its 30 dollars as opposed to the 60 it used to be. This thing prints me SL in air rb, so I would suggest getting it. Also I'm over half way through the american air tree and still coming out positive after buying the planes. Not crewing though.
I took it for a test fly and if I’m honest as an air rb main, I have concerns. The lack lustre acceleration and climb rate combined with the low top speed at sea level and meh missiles while pretty much exclusively seeing top tier… for so much money… meh. Your handling only goes so far and as people are spamming the mig-21bis, I’ve just been watching people get dunked on in it. Once it’s slow then it’s such an easy target. The acceleration means you can’t get your speed back once you’re slow as well. I don’t care about the lack of radar. The lack of rwr is a concern. 10g missiles vs 11.0 and only having 2 of them at that is a huge disadvantage too. The only thing that makes me even consider buying it is that I don’t have top tier US vehicles. I have top tier UK, France, Sweden, and Germany. With the FGR.2 I have shot these things down within a minute of the match starting with sparrows. It just doesn’t seem as good from an air rb perspective as you’re making it out to be. Would absolutely get it for ground but I haven’t got top tier US ground either lol
Once this thing gets moving, it gets going quick. My strategy is to hit 800 km/h in a shallow climb, and then increase the angle substantially. By the time I encounter enemy fighters, I'm at 5k-7k meters, depending on my angle/map, and going near mach 1. It's really quite good once you get moving. The F-5E is even substantially better than that.
@@Tankenstein I do this in the F-104A. Just climb really high and then dunk on people who are tunnel visioned on those Harriers or F-4s. I don’t like how slow the F-5C is but if I was to play it as I would the F-104A it should be a very good fighter and just boom on some planes and then dogfight. But then again, you might not want to dogfight because you will be so slow and get baited. It is a good plane in the right hands imo. Don’t just get the plane and play it like a MiG. There is a very special way to play the F-5C.
i have it and played it quite alot. its pretty nice only one problem. its turns so quick that the pilot cant handle g forces which results in constant black screen. i cant really dogfight in it cause pilot will just me unconscious the whole time
Very late but in case you havnt figured it out if you use keyboard what you can do is use mouse to aim, keyboard for maneuvers so for example hold s to go up and if you start blacking out hold w for about 1/4 of a second to add a little bit of negative g’s and as you continue your turn. You will start. Not blacking out and then eventually start again, biggest part is realizing that it’s delayed for visual meaning you can just tap opposite direction and it will work just might not look like it until. A second later, also sorry for grammar typing on phone lol
@@littlecreeper8543 iknow my man. ive been using that tactic ever since playing WT. The f5C with unexperienced crew just still blacks out insanely quick even when using that tactic. My g tolerence and stamina is now max tho so it isnt really an isue anymore, really like the f5C i wreck alot of people in it
Yeah and in a sustained rate fight your MER will actually be better than a MiG-21's. They will pull more AoA, but after that you'll be beating them. Also their guns are trash so as long as you don't give them a shot with the R-60 you'll be fine lol.
Possibly. I can tell you that, from experience, the F-5C is much better. The Su-7, while good, only has a slightly better ground attack capability and higher top speed at the major cost of versatility. It has almost no way to defend itself against air.

Yes, it is just as good as it was when it was first released. While I would recommend starting with a lower BR premium, like something between 3.0 and 7.0 BR, if you have to grind the entire American tech tree, the F-5C is still an amazing plane in War Thunder.

Mig-23 complete bugbag. Radar and missiles almost unusable cos of bugs abd nerfs. So u can eat it with a 9.7 plane if u have some skill. So dont need f-14. Btw nato planes absolute dominate and op. Foor example in the radius of 9.3 i loose 20match and win1 or 2 with ussr.

Great Video just a quick correction at 9:30. Where using the 250 x 18 pound bombs you can completely destroy an enemies base in one go.

@@sebastianlorant6502 mig pilots switch to sabres, f8u and f5s, because they're the only gunfighters with which using the guns actually grants you 4 or more kills without needing to reload or use suspended armament

@@ty8012 Air RB is fine and in Ground RB it'll be super hard. to use at 10.3 because of how insanely good the SPAAGs are.
This thing can take multiple missle hits as well. Very survivable

this thing has literally no weaknesses when going against an a-5c. out turns it, faster than it, better climb rate and better energy retention. only thing is its slightly less quick on acceleration.

December 2022, Be careful buying this, you can easily die in 1v1s so learn to pick out enemies and only fire off your missiles when necessary, if you are wanting to get the f-14 though or grind usa tech tree learn the plane because using this plane is the only option.

My question is: How do you fly the aircraft without the horizon moving if you know what I mean? It looks so cool, only the aircraft is moving, not the horizon. Can I change that in the settings?
Do not buy it if you just started. You will get clapped like there is no tomorrow. Play some games and get level 20. Then think again.
The bottom is normally c I think.
AV8 marine harrier is still the better pick due to it being 9.3 and has 30mm adens and AIM9 G which has been buffed from 16 to 18g turn

if you are new u are much better off with purchasing the AV8A, if you are experienced in jets and can aim well then you can go for the F5C

The 9Es are not trash. They're definitely not meta, but not trash either. They're great for slowing people down or getting them in a climb.
@@zackbobby5550 This is from experience but all you have to do is do a small turn in the F5e and pop a few flares and woosh it's gone though the missile is good for slowing down F4 and Mig21
@@pirateboss1128 Well yeah no shit the 9E is not a top tier missile. It's not trash either though. But any heat seaker currently in the game would be thrown off by the maneuver you just described.
@@zackbobby5550 I would kinda disagree thoughfrom a side on aspect obviously it will miss but from the rear if its an AIM9J it may pose a risk of death as it still kinda has resistance to flares not as much as before though
@@pirateboss1128 No if you cut your burner, deploy flares, and jink properly it will not hit you in an F-5E.
Right now it's kind of a plague to play the F5-C, gets uptiered on a regular basis.. Sometimes it's fun to play but it's rare imo..

Yes it is. If u have premium, it has the highest SL multiplier in air rn shared by only a few planes. Also if you're xbox, dont know about ps4, its 30 dollars as opposed to the 60 it used to be. This thing prints me SL in air rb, so I would suggest getting it. Also I'm over half way through the american air tree and still coming out positive after buying the planes. Not crewing though.

I took it for a test fly and if I’m honest as an air rb main, I have concerns. The lack lustre acceleration and climb rate combined with the low top speed at sea level and meh missiles while pretty much exclusively seeing top tier… for so much money… meh. Your handling only goes so far and as people are spamming the mig-21bis, I’ve just been watching people get dunked on in it. Once it’s slow then it’s such an easy target. The acceleration means you can’t get your speed back once you’re slow as well. I don’t care about the lack of radar. The lack of rwr is a concern. 10g missiles vs 11.0 and only having 2 of them at that is a huge disadvantage too.
The only thing that makes me even consider buying it is that I don’t have top tier US vehicles. I have top tier UK, France, Sweden, and Germany. With the FGR.2 I have shot these things down within a minute of the match starting with sparrows. It just doesn’t seem as good from an air rb perspective as you’re making it out to be.
Would absolutely get it for ground but I haven’t got top tier US ground either lol
Once this thing gets moving, it gets going quick. My strategy is to hit 800 km/h in a shallow climb, and then increase the angle substantially. By the time I encounter enemy fighters, I'm at 5k-7k meters, depending on my angle/map, and going near mach 1. It's really quite good once you get moving. The F-5E is even substantially better than that.
@@Tankenstein I do this in the F-104A. Just climb really high and then dunk on people who are tunnel visioned on those Harriers or F-4s. I don’t like how slow the F-5C is but if I was to play it as I would the F-104A it should be a very good fighter and just boom on some planes and then dogfight. But then again, you might not want to dogfight because you will be so slow and get baited. It is a good plane in the right hands imo. Don’t just get the plane and play it like a MiG. There is a very special way to play the F-5C.
I can only get 1 centimetre worth of grinding and it takes too long for me to grind any tech trees and it gets annoying.

i have it and played it quite alot. its pretty nice only one problem. its turns so quick that the pilot cant handle g forces which results in constant black screen. i cant really dogfight in it cause pilot will just me unconscious the whole time
It is really capable. One of the major examples of a plane outflying the capabilities of the pilot.
Very late but in case you havnt figured it out if you use keyboard what you can do is use mouse to aim, keyboard for maneuvers so for example hold s to go up and if you start blacking out hold w for about 1/4 of a second to add a little bit of negative g’s and as you continue your turn. You will start. Not blacking out and then eventually start again, biggest part is realizing that it’s delayed for visual meaning you can just tap opposite direction and it will work just might not look like it until. A second later, also sorry for grammar typing on phone lol
@@littlecreeper8543 iknow my man. ive been using that tactic ever since playing WT. The f5C with unexperienced crew just still blacks out insanely quick even when using that tactic. My g tolerence and stamina is now max tho so it isnt really an isue anymore, really like the f5C i wreck alot of people in it

Yeah and in a sustained rate fight your MER will actually be better than a MiG-21's. They will pull more AoA, but after that you'll be beating them. Also their guns are trash so as long as you don't give them a shot with the R-60 you'll be fine lol.

Possibly. I can tell you that, from experience, the F-5C is much better. The Su-7, while good, only has a slightly better ground attack capability and higher top speed at the major cost of versatility. It has almost no way to defend itself against air.
@@Tankenstein hi Tankenstein, i wanted to ask, why did you compare this plane to Su-7 (which is 1 BR lower) rather than AV8A, which is also 1 BR lower, Same price and Same Nation. would have made much more sense (in my opinion, atleast) to know which one of these planes is better to buy if anyone wants to grind the USA Tree.

Yes, it is just as good as it was when it was first released. While I would recommend starting with a lower BR premium, like something between 3.0 and 7.0 BR, if you have to grind the entire American tech tree, the F-5C is still an amazing plane in War Thunder.

Mig-23 complete bugbag. Radar and missiles almost unusable cos of bugs abd nerfs. So u can eat it with a 9.7 plane if u have some skill. So dont need f-14. Btw nato planes absolute dominate and op. Foor example in the radius of 9.3 i loose 20match and win1 or 2 with ussr.
