McLaren 720S GT3 EVO 2023 Testing at Monza Circuit!

  • The McLaren 720S GT3 EVO has been the first of the new 2023 GT3-class cars that I managed to record at the very beginning of this year at Monza Circuit, but for one reason or another I didn't have enough material to produce a dedicated video. It turned out to be the last to be shared with you.
    This video is about two EVOs, one of the SKY Tempesta Racing team (scenes with dry yellow grass, in late February) and one of Optimum Motorsport which I recorded a couple of days ago at Monza Circuit during a Kateyama test day.
    The EVO kit was introduced at the very beginning of the year to keep up the pace with competitors and their new cars: Ferrari 296 GT3, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, Porsche 992 GT3 R plus all those updated in 2022 (M4 GT3, R8 Evo II, NSX Evo22).
    The visible external changes of the 720S EVO are located in the front with a wider 'mouth' which improves cooling and aero, which also involved changing the position and shape of the auxiliary lamps for better night visibility in longer-distance events. Additional dive planes have also been added to the front bumper.
    At the rear, the wing pylon mechanism can now be easily adjusted, and the rear wing gurney is taller to enhance downforce without upsetting overall balance. Many more changes can be found in the 720S GT3 EVO’s suspension, aiming to improve tyre management options. The engine remains the 4.0-liter twin turbo V8.

    Am I the only one seeing that thing porpoising like an F1 car? The ground effect must be monstrous

      I think a lot of what is happening in this video is down to suspension settings. I personally have never seen a GT3 car look like it's 'bouncing' this much like this McLaren at Monza. Really strange to see.

    Man, that looks so much better than the Artura GTD car I saw at Road America last weekend...lol. I really wasn't a fan of it, this looks pretty epic though! Sound is better too IMO. The Artura I saw was quieter than pretty much everything besides the Vantages.

      Really hope they will develop the 750S for GT3 racing and that it doesn't end up like the F8 Tributo for Ferrari

      Maybe its more likely to feel its bass frequency on your body live than through a microphone. But yea i think its quiet anyway

      @@jakewilson192 I’ve heard it in real time at Indianapolis and it’s surely quiet but you are absolutely spot on, you feel the deep rumbling tone through your body. It’s almost like physical low frequency

      @@seanwoodson1143I’ve seen these at a UK event as that’s where I live and I saw British GT at oulton park, The Mercedes GT3, Aston Martin GT3 from 2019, & this 720s GT3 were all in there but they run a different exhaust system as they are really loud at oulton park, and people complain BTCC is quiet, they deafen you, same for “Intelligent Money British GT” because unlike high grade FIA tracks you are practically next to the cars at oulton park

    What is the difference between the 720s gt3 and the 720s gt3 evo

      Predominantly aero/bodywork changes to the side and rear and I'd guess that includes the rear wing too but I'm sure the floor is also in constant development. One thing that is noticeable is how smooth the car is into/in the middle of faster corners like Ascari and you can even see how smooth and responsive the car is to driver input - no fighting the wheel or nervous twitches at all (4:03).
      I can say from personal experience that when watching trackside from Copse at the British GT in 2022, Lambo's, Merc's, Audi's and Porsche's were all on the power so much earlier due to better rear stability but the McLaren's and Bentley's were trail-braking into the apex of Copse and rolling out with just 1 downshift on entry which clearly shows all the drivers weren't confident in pushing the rear. They made improvements in 2023 and the rear improved but the front became a little understeery plus didn't do well to warm the tires in both quali and early stages of stints (same thing happened in IMSA).

    Jesus Christ. So this is what car manufacturers do. They just sell nerfed track cars to the public. I always knew the C8 Corvette was off but it had potential then I saw the C8 GT3 Corvette and then ot all made sense why it was built like that as a mid engine.
