- Meet McLaren’s deadliest track day motor, the 720S GT3X. This very car won the Goodwood Hill shootout at the Festival of Speed earlier in the summer. Beat everything. So the GT3X is clearly very, very fast indeed.
But what’s the point in a 750bhp no limits GT3 racer that can’t race? Well, Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Marriage strapped himself in to find out. Then we strapped Stig in to see how fast it really is.

Agree. I don't like this almost movie trailer like editing. Too many cuts, shaking cameras and other effects. And too much music when there should be engine noise.

It’s because these recent videos are promo for the magazine event for car of the year.
Hence why I stopped watching Top Gear and the Grand tour even. I want to see good technical driving and hard laps and quality descriptions. Not flashy cuts.
Would have been nice if they posted the Top Gear test track lap time for the Senna at the end as well for comparison, since they were discussing the difference between them all the way up to that point.
I looked on the wiki and couldn't find a recorded time for the Senna.. but considering the 1:07 that this thing achieved, I'm pretty sure this is faster. 1:07 is godlike swift.
Caparo T1 was the previous record holder and it was 3 seconds faster than that. I cant see the Senna on Top Gear's test track. Grand Tour did it on a different track... so

Chris Harris talked about the difference between a senna and a GT3 car in regard to lap times and handling overall, and a gt3 is WAY superior in both categories despite its significantly worse power:weight-ratio.

this is true, unworthy of a big company to mess up audio levels like this. When the guy speaks it's too silent, and when the muisic kicks in it's way too loud!

On the street legal list, the SF90 is top of the list on Wikipedia at 1.11.3. Something to compare it to at least.
Bruh. It's the top gear test track. Basically every sport and supercar from the last 15 years has been around it
Googled it. This is only beaten by a renault F1 car (Fernando Alonsos), a VW ID.R and a lotus T125. This car is indeed bananas fast.

It's comparable to the Zonda R which did a standing lap in 1.08.5. Same type of car, but the Zondas lap was more than a decade ago!

I never thought I'd say this...but Chris has lost it, he's furious about everything and it gets pretty tiresome after a while. Ollie can clearly pedal like a monster and he's straight to the point. Chris is great for entertainment, Ollie is a far better motor journalist
@@DeathBringer769 Nah Ollie & Jack are better presenters, Chris is surviving on reputation. These days he’s a grumpy old man that holds onto weird opinions and doesn’t give things a chance. Still a great driver but what he actually says is sometimes utter tripe.

IMO it's not, I mean it's fast for sure, but I would have expected more difference since one it's a racecar without rules and the other it's a supercar which you can use to buy groceries

considering This Mclaren afterall is a hardcore full blown racer, and the ancient Zonda R did a 1:08.5 when there was less runoff area at the end corners, and that the car didn't have a good launch system like mondern Mclarens' I think the Zonda was very special.
Yep, at the time Zonda R was about 2 seconds quicker than Ferrari FXX and one tenth faster than Aston Martin GT1 class racecar. And that still isn't the fastest iteration of the Zonda, that would be the Revolucion with even more power and downforce. Just goes to show that Horacio Pagani means business. And lastly, let's not forget: naturally aspirated V12 > V8 turbo.
I don't think the McLaren are running slicks like the Zonda.
And the sound of the Zonda R is just on another level

So I will say this. This car is amazing it’s beautiful, I’ll never be able to afford one but hearing it and seeing it in this way is truly an experience. At the same time it’s like all the other videos of beautiful cars revving and hitting corners(kinda boring). I remember as a kid getting books with cars in them taping them to the walls in my room even the ceiling lol. Just looking up and around with pictures giving all the beautiful angles. My mind wondering how fast and how loud it would be to race or even drive the city in one. I’ve been fortunate to have owned a few “fast” cars none as exotic as this obviously. Not to take away from the current times but there’s something to the imagination of these pieces of art in stills. Ferrari’s Porsche Lamborghini etc. I remember 😌
this is one of the coolest cars around, gt3 cars deserve more appreciation and this is a rather quick love letter to that

I love that this car revives the old McLaren exhaust note from the P1/12c/650S. Truthfully, the whispy, 4-cylinder like sound that started with the 570S/675LT isn't to my taste. This is a much more guttural bellow. More of this please, McLaren! 👍

go back to the still cameras for the stig lap because I can't actually tell how fast the car is ripping through the corners with all these moving cameras
They have to make the experience worse for us. They have to be seen to change something. Even a change for the worse is better than no change.
To say the road car 720 is faster in a straight line is true but to put this into perspective, Chris Harris put the Senna against the older 12C GT3 car and even though the senna had 800hp vs the 540hp of the GT3 car, the senna was bested by 6 sec a lap by a car with 260hp less, so I would guess the gap would be closer to 9sec a lap against the 720s.

@@william_SMMA It's not just Slick tyres that make a GT3 car quicker than a senna and the Senna isn't a hypercar.

Imagine Porsche would do a 918 Tribute time attack car.
Their latest greatest engine, updated electric motors and battery. All the lightness and downforce. Still AWD.
The 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder is still a monster today.

A 608 hp ICE is not what hypercars get nowadays though. And the battery got hot easily. And ran out of hybrid boost by the end of a Nurburgring lap, resulting in sub 300 top speed on the longest straight out there. With Rimac (Koenigsegg Regera hybrid side) stock in portfolio and the 919 Evo behind tem, Porsche is basically just holding out on us.

Fastest time on the actual show is the Caparo T1 (1:10.60), followed by the Ferrari SF90 Stradale (1:11.3)... and this thing just blew them out the water by well over 3 seconds!
Yeah. But not that impressive considering this is a one off, unbuyable car, and the SF90 is way cheaper with Aircon, airbags, ground clearance(usable).. etc
You're forgetting the Zonda R at 108.5.

Knowing how much power 720S’s really make on a dyno this thing is probably making way more than a normal 720.

BBC were too PC, one fist and you are out. If it happens very rarely and the blokes make up - what is the deal. We do get them on Amazon now (or torrents for those who refuse to make Bezos even richer).
So happy they’re finally posting video reviews from speed week, I always thought it was a missed opportunity that they never did, especially after Harris’ end of year videos that he used to make INDEPENDENTLY but it seems they’re putting that right. Got the magazine too but seeing it in motion and the visible response from the reviewer is worth just as much as the words on a page to me 👌🏾

That makes it the quickest car around the top gear track by about 3 seconds
1 second faster than the Ferrari FFX-K, 1.3 seconds faster than the Zonda R, 1.5 seconds faster than the DBR9. The GT3X is a beast.

This is for rich people who want to drive a fast car on a track days, but have no interest in racing. It's a race car, you can't compare it to 765 LT. Not even close.

@@AMS-KungPao no not necessarily. But generally a car that’s been truly unlocked with all the Nannie’s removed and is just pure to the bones, chalk full of raw power and grip. It will be hard to control.

@@AMS-KungPao if you’re trying to race them at the same level then yes it would be lol. That’s why I said generally. Two cars at the same level, the one that’s faster generally will have less grip and so it will be harder to control. But control is such a relative topic.
How the hell is this several seconds faster than the Senna GTR? Wasn't the point of the Senna GTR to be the fastest car outside of T their F1 car? I guess doesn't matter since the T.50s Niki Lauda will waste both because it's 350+ kg lighter

back when the P1 gtr was a FAD, there were testings that showed that the ~500hp mclaren 650s GT3 was actually still faster around the track for a fraction of the price. Both are track cars only. Then Mclaren came out with the Senna and Senna GTR, and they were like, ah you see this Senna GTR doesn't have the heavy hybrid powertrain to slow it down and the aero is much more crazy, so it's faster than our GT3 car and therefore, costs millions. Except... the GT3 car is power restricted. And here we are again, Mclaren say this unrestricted GT3 car is much faster than the Senna GTR. I'm sure it costs less to run as well, and it also. For those who truly cared for track speed, why get a modified production car that looks like a race car, when you can buy the car that was a race car from day 1.
