    my 06 WRX has the same exact issue ive been researching for weeks taking in all info. Did what you did with the hope that is was the tensioner, to no avail. Did octane booster to possibly reveal pre ignition, and also oil additives! After denial comes acceptance right!? LOL So a local subie friend has a STI motor thats going in very soon, it has to be rod knock. Its just to bad we cant get lucky and have it be something easy. Thanks for the vid and good luck with your work, I see your other update looks like your all good to go!

    How did those main bearings and crankshaft journals look when you rebuild the engine? I would bet my left foot that it was just some piston slap and not rod knock. I have the same car.

    Intake manifold leak. Pick a cylinder. That is why it started making that noise. Dry hump your carpet til you bleed. That is what you do to your motor.

    Weird mine sounded just like this, always thought it was just the tensioner. Ran it like that for quite awhile before I overheated the f*** out of it because the radiator cracked and temp qauge didn’t work and blew my head gaskets. Water in oil and ran it like that for awhile till I finally decided to swap the engine. Had it open header and redlined it everyday. Somehow managed not to blow up.

    My EJ22 kinda sounds like this but i starte using about 1/4 bottle of lucas with oil changes and it quieted that fucker up. Kinda think mine is lifter tick though but I guess time will tell. It'll be a shame to junk my '95 Legacy if the engine goes out, but with probably close to 300k on the original motor, I think it's served its purpose.

    My car has been starting to sound something like this i guess and my brother said it might be rod knock but the other day when i went to go clean the interior i turned it on to see for myself but its not to loud and when i pressed the gas pedal and i only went up maybe 100rpms and then the noise went away and it sounded normal and later when i finished cleaning my car i turned it back on and went up to 2000rpms and i could hear it a little more but going to higher rpms it sounds like it goes away, also the engine feels like it shakes a little bit, could it be rod knock? Or can the timing belt tensioner cause the shake too? Could it be the timing belt tensioner?

    That is not rod knock you would know as soon as you started the car sounds normal use a long screw driver and rest the metal part on each cylinder and rest your ear on the butt of the screwdriver you'll be surprised what you can here do compression test ringland failure most likely

    • @BluDog35
      @BluDog35  4 роки тому +1

      This video is almost 3 years old. It was rod knock. I have a mechanic's stethoscope that works a lot better than the screwdriver trick i just didn't use it in this video. Engine was pulled and rebuilt by myself using new bearings, piston rings, refreshed the heads and re-sealed every surface with fresh seals and gaskets. Non turbo subies rarely experience ringland failure.

    Hey Kasey, It's is difficult for me to hear distinct engine noise from my laptop at work. Have to have another listen tonight when I can play it again on the surround system at home. My Foz has a ton of piston slap when cold. Any chance it gets quieter when warm?

      @BluDog35  7 років тому

      Homebrew Subaru thanks bud. This really means a lot to me. I just want to know how bad it is and how much longer I can drive it before she blows up.
      I'm thinking jdm ej201 swap for now since it's basically a plug and play deal. Just gotta swap over a couple timing pulleys and the whole intake. Then maybe boost when I can afford after I build my shop a bit or maybe youtube takes off.
      One can dream right? Lol.

    • @HomebrewSubaru

      Listening through the stereo didn't help much. With headphones on, I would say between 5:05-5:20 I hear what seems to be light rod knock. Most likely just worn/excessive clearance, I'd call number one rod bearing. How many miles on that 251?
      When my ej222 got noisy, I found the oil low and smelling like fuel. I tried checking the t-belt tensioner as well, but it was all good. Haven't yet torn it apart, but it'll happen eventually. I expect a spun bearing, but I'm hoping the crank is fine whatever the case is. The NA 2.0 jdm/edm engine is good for low boost.
      I ran lucas in an inline 4 banger that hammered like thor and got 3 weeks out of it until it came apart on the highway.

    • @BluDog35
      @BluDog35  7 років тому +1

      I'm not sure how many miles exactly. It was a junkyard motor out of a 2.5RS I got in 2012. I just finished refreshing it because it had external HG issues. Rebuilt the heads from the valves up, had them decked and tanked. Adjusted the valves all perfect and all that jazz. Did the timing belt, running gear and water pump as well as a new flywheel and clutch. Didn't touch the shortblock tho. I did pull the oil pan off and removed the baffle. Checked the rods with my hands and they didn't have play. But I should have just cracked the block anyways and done the bearings. Got about 7k miles out of the refresh tho. LOLOL

    Does anyone know if these motors can be sleeved to save them and keep using the car over again?
    Vehicle:
    2004 Subaru Forester X 25 AT
    Q:Does anyone know how to cheat the computer. There is potential vacuum leak but Scotty says that should lean the car out. I am trying to lean this alien out and disconnected all the sensors except crank, cam, coolant, tps, boost, and idle air control valve and the car runs with no changes since I bought it but the computer maps must be set to run extremely rich. Someone please help to bypass that damn rich running computer I hate the stink and expense!😵
    Q: Does anyone have experience with the abs system. Can this system at only 153,000 miles be dead.
    Discussion:
    With the facts that this car doesn't change its operation better or worse with all those solenoids and front O2 sensor disconnected clearly indicates the computer is not reading values from the sensors nor does it need the solenoids or all that pollution crap to run the car. Conversly, it is smell detectable that shortly after a new car is used it starts stinking on startup and during operation. This cant be a fault of the sensors, solenoids, or even the scrappy designed engines only the so-called maps stored in the memory and that the computer is defaulting to maps and without telling the driver. That goes directly back to computer manufacturers and programmers invading the car market with their unnecessary garbage and intentionally rewriting the facts to their lies about how a motor, trans, and car operate.
