Yeah I need to increase the number of longer videos I do. I wanted those short ones to be quick to digest type content, but it needs balancing with some longer stuff!
This is a fantastic breakdown - probably your best video. I think the longer form content works really well on this channel as it lets you go into a bit more detail. I try to think of all Archfiend cards as viable rather than trying to make Summoned Skull only, as I feel like they can benefit each other without putting that limit there. Right now I definitely think that integrating Archfiend cards as a whole is more viable than just the Summoned Skull stuff Summoned Skull is great though! Very iconic and I'm sure Konami will release more support for him in the future. I'd say the fusion variant is the most viable right now, but the ritual has a lot of potential

Both can work well. Haven't tested Charge in this deck but Trade-in works fine. Trade-in is actually really useful for recycling Dark Spirits and getting cards like Empress into the grave Dragonlark does seem interesting! Another card for playtesting in the future for sure
@@TheArchfiendGuy I do love your Koa'ki meiru tech, and i didnt realize how strong he was for a lv 3. Kinda of want to run him along with Palylabrinth just to have a lv 3 beat stick deck.

Yup, it definitely would but then you do minus as a result. I've never tried it with Archfiends to be honest but they're already slow starters, so I feel like going minus just to reload your hand could potentially set you back even further

So this is not meant to be snarky or trolly so if it comes off as that I apologize. But how is this an Archfiend deck with so few Archfiends? 6 in the main deck and only 1 in the secondary deck. I stopped playing Yugi-Oh when Yata lock was a thing because when a deck literally cannot be stopped to the point that every tourny devolved into who can get their Yata out first its time to hang up my deck. The new Archfiends that have come out since are so fun and I love them attaching them to the Red-Eyes dragons as there is some cool synergies there. But it feels like this deck is about everything else with some Archfiends thrown in. Am I just ignorant?
Hey Gunshin! Thanks for the question. It's not snarky or trolly, it's a valid one and I'll try to explain. First off there's 8 main deck Archfiend cards (3 Emperor, 1 Empress, 2 Heiress, 1 Roar, 1 Call) and the deck is a hybrid between Archfiends and Unchained. The issue with Archfiends is that their main gimmick, or at least how I play them, is to put Archfiend Empress and Emperor in the GY and then revive them with cards like Dark Spirit of Banishment and Call of the Archfiend. The problem here is that Archfiends have 0 ways to achieve this outside of Archfiend's Oath which is very unreliable. So we're forced to run other cards that help facilitate this style of play. Void Apocalypse for example lets you discard a card to send a fiend from the deck to the GY. Sure, it has an Infernoid effect as well, but we don't run any Infernoids. It's literally just a card that starts our "combo" of dumping fiends. Dark Spirit's Mastery is a level 8 fiend support card, and Emperor/Empress are both level 8 fiends, so it works quite well with them. Especially bringing an Emperor back from the GY to then normal summon for a pop. Foolish Burial lets us mill anything, Fiend Griefing is an interruption and also lets us mill. Scarm, while yes it's a BA card, it is run here because it lets us search out level 3 monsters. Most important ones being the Dark Spirits (which revive our Archfiends). The Unchained cards are there to beef up our first turn, because Archfiends can take a while to get going, so the early game floating and outing via their link monsters really comes in handy. Both archetypes benefit from destruction, so they work well together. Being able to pop an Empress with an Unchained card, just to revive an Emperor and recycle the Dark Spirits is a great way to gain card advantage. In a nutshell, you want Archfiends in the GY that Empress can revive, and cards in your deck that help you put them there (and quickly). So it's all about synergy really. There's no point in running several Archfiend cards just because they're Archfiends, because many of them don't interact with each other. Shadowknight, Imprisoned Queen, Vilepawn etc are all fairly weak and don't achieve much. Although I must admit to having a soft spot for Vilepawn! It should be noted that despite there being several cards that aren't Archfiend cards in the deck, the core gameplay is very Archfiend focused. You're pretty much always relying on summoning Archfiend Empress and Emperor to beatdown your opponent. The "end boards" tend to always be Archfiend oriented, it's just that getting there is tricky without some extra help from cards like Fiendish Rhino Warrior and Tour Guide from the Underworld. Having said all this, I appreciate that this deck is half Unchained! I have a much purer build coming out soon which might be more to your liking.
That all makes sense. I think what got me was the lack of archfiends in the extra deck especially. I have been running a simpler archfiend deck a week or so now. It mostly relies on using emporers normal summon ability for the pops, then it dies, then using the call to bring him back, hopefully discarding an empress to do it. I can get some nice rotations with that. I am not even running an extra deck. Like I said I am from a simpler time of the game. No crazy 20 card combos that take 20 min.
Yeah fair enough. I've always felt that Archfiends don't really get their power from the extra deck. All their monsters are in the main deck except for a select few. In my latest build I'm running Archfiend's Manifestation though which is a great extra deck target! I pretty much dedicate my extra deck to utility. So what cards can I include that help facilitate my combo, or can be used in certain circumstances. Underworld Goddess of a Closed World is a good example of this. Same with Dingirsu and any packages that might be useful. The Cipher package for example is a decent rank 8 set of monsters that can pop multiple cards. You should try Archfiend's Roar if you're not already! Empress blows up during the end phase, which triggers Pandemonium and a revive. A cool thing to do is to revive Annihilator Archfiend, then on your turn use Call to revive Empress, Annihilator pops her and another card, pandemonium triggers, Empress revives Emperor, Emperor pops a card. If you activated Call during your opponent's turn instead, then you can revive Empress again or maybe a second Emperor! I've been playing since the game came out in the UK, and the older style of play will always have soft spot in my heart. It's partially why I love Archfiends so much. Classic cards and can really drag out games beyond turn 2. Makes it feel like I'm playing like back in the day!
I have not tried roar. I have made a few tweaks off of the advise in your videos. I am up to gold 1 and 3 wins from Plat. My deck is a very traditional play. I think it throws people off.
Awesome! Yeah I think it does throw people off. Not many people play Archfiends so many players are left wondering how your deck even functions, which is an advantage A Sky Striker player used Shark Cannon on my Archfiend Emperor the other day to summon him on their field. Then they realised they could only summon fiends XD they surrendered after that
Yeah it's something I can't quite decide on. On the one hand I want to make a deck profile detailed and sort of self contained, but I also see the benefit of separate ones. I'll have to think on it!
Not many people think it's even a deck but here we are! To be honest, not many people play them, so it's no surprise that the deck hasn't grown much or even heard about. But it's come along leaps and bounds over this last year which has been fantastic
@@TheArchfiendGuy i Will definetly try this one out, I have been trying to perfect a more older archfiend deck over The years, but it was all about backrow to sustain myself from a loss but this opens up a whole new archfiend world to me, thank you so much for loving archfiends
Yeah the archetype is very old, so it's mechanics are definitely dated, but with the Bakura booster box that came out (with the dark spirits and Curse Necrofear) the deck is way better now. Being able to keep big monsters on the board with a dark spirit and Archfiend Empress is fairly decent And since they all get their effects on destruction, powerful monsters like Accesscode do almost nothing to us. Our biggest weakness is a board of negates, but everyone has that problem Keep playtesting! If we all keep thinking up ideas we can make the deck more powerful more quickly
Good question! It's a solid card to run but in my experience it just works better as a going second card. It doesn't really do much going first and can contribute to hand bricking. It's summoning effect doesn't reliably go off turn 1 either If you're using a going second variant then it's worth considering, at least at 1 anyway
You're welcome! The side deck can be whatever you like really. I just used Light Imprisoning Mirror because I hate Drytron, but moving forward I'd probably keep Chaos Hunter sided for the Tri-Brigade matchup (or possibly even mained)
I just used that slot for the video as a sort of placeholder. If you want to run Dragoon for example then it's a good idea to run it. But you can just replace that with Pilgrim for example, or anything really
It's a bit reliant on Tour Guide and Aruha yeah. If you wanted to get into Tour Guide faster you could try running Monster Reincarnation to retrieve it from the GY (dump it via Void Apocalypse) but that's not the most optimal play Do you have any suggestions to improve consistency?
all I have in mind now is to draw cards, or that pot of prosperity that digs up to 6 cards, this can be good to get the cards you need more easily. (Sorry, I don't speak English, I'm talking via translator)
Definitely! It's annoying to face it because Dragoon can blow up Empress and anything it revives, which basically ends the whole game To out it I pretty much have to bait the negate and then Zeus the field
@@TheArchfiendGuy you can run 3x super poly and chain on when your opponents Dragoon effect activates. He can't negate its effect and you can fusion summon Predaplant Triphyoverutum or something else
Yeah definitely! Super Poly is a solid option to out Dragoon. It's not good to chain its destruction effect though because I've done that before and the effect still goes through once Super Poly resolves unfortunately, which will likely mean your fusion monster will get blown up. Best to just use it on summon or just in your own turn The problem with Super Poly though is the lack of side deck and extra deck space, but I agree it's very strong
@@TheArchfiendGuy awesome thanks man. I’ve fallen out of playing duel links anymore and want to get back to my roots playing the old style I grew up on.

Not many people play Archfiends so many players are left wondering how your deck even functions, which is an advantage
A Sky Striker player used Shark Cannon on my Archfiend Emperor the other day to summon him on their field. Then they realised they could only summon fiends XD they surrendered after that
Maybe separate the deck profile and guides between separate videos, if needs be?
Yeah it's something I can't quite decide on. On the one hand I want to make a deck profile detailed and sort of self contained, but I also see the benefit of separate ones. I'll have to think on it!
Now that Skill Drain is unlimited, how would you run it?
Yeah probably! But not in paper because it's too expensive. Master Duel though for sure
I didnt knownarchfiends where still able to be this powerful...
Being able to keep big monsters on the board with a dark spirit and Archfiend Empress is fairly decent
And since they all get their effects on destruction, powerful monsters like Accesscode do almost nothing to us. Our biggest weakness is a board of negates, but everyone has that problem
Keep playtesting! If we all keep thinking up ideas we can make the deck more powerful more quickly
Do you have any recommendations if your opponent is also playing from the grave?
fiend griefing is really powerful in that case
As Baval said, Fiend Griefing is good. Also The End of Anubis can shut your opponent down pretty quickly
Why not run archfiends palabrynth?
Good question! It's a solid card to run but in my experience it just works better as a going second card. It doesn't really do much going first and can contribute to hand bricking. It's summoning effect doesn't reliably go off turn 1 either
If you're using a going second variant then it's worth considering, at least at 1 anyway
Does anybody know what the the two different trap cards behind Imperial Order and Skill Drain are? I can’t remember for the life of me
Gozen Match and Light Imprisoning Mirror
@@TheArchfiendGuy thank you, can’t wait to use this this deck
You're welcome! The side deck can be whatever you like really. I just used Light Imprisoning Mirror because I hate Drytron, but moving forward I'd probably keep Chaos Hunter sided for the Tri-Brigade matchup (or possibly even mained)
Why is there a Verte without any fusion spells or fusion monsters?
I just used that slot for the video as a sort of placeholder. If you want to run Dragoon for example then it's a good idea to run it. But you can just replace that with Pilgrim for example, or anything really
@@TheArchfiendGuy gotcha, ty.
the deck is pretty strong, but like, it's bricking a little bit🤔
It's a bit reliant on Tour Guide and Aruha yeah. If you wanted to get into Tour Guide faster you could try running Monster Reincarnation to retrieve it from the GY (dump it via Void Apocalypse) but that's not the most optimal play
Do you have any suggestions to improve consistency?
all I have in mind now is to draw cards, or that pot of prosperity that digs up to 6 cards, this can be good to get the cards you need more easily. (Sorry, I don't speak English, I'm talking via translator)
dragoon is a problem for fiend decks
Definitely! It's annoying to face it because Dragoon can blow up Empress and anything it revives, which basically ends the whole game
To out it I pretty much have to bait the negate and then Zeus the field
@@TheArchfiendGuy you can run 3x super poly and chain on when your opponents Dragoon effect activates. He can't negate its effect and you can fusion summon Predaplant Triphyoverutum or something else
Yeah definitely! Super Poly is a solid option to out Dragoon. It's not good to chain its destruction effect though because I've done that before and the effect still goes through once Super Poly resolves unfortunately, which will likely mean your fusion monster will get blown up.
Best to just use it on summon or just in your own turn
The problem with Super Poly though is the lack of side deck and extra deck space, but I agree it's very strong
What’s this yugioh game called?
EdoPro, it's a dueling simulator that's free to download from the Project Ignis discord server :)
@@TheArchfiendGuy awesome thanks man. I’ve fallen out of playing duel links anymore and want to get back to my roots playing the old style I grew up on.
Nice! Well EdoPro is fairly well populated but you should also check out YGO Omega which is another dueling sim. It's made with the Unity game engine though and it's sleeker overall.
In addition to that, Konami are actually making their own official sim called Master Duel which should be awesome when it comes out!
@@TheArchfiendGuy I’ll keep that in mind thanks again man
