  • This is how I do a basic oil change on the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 4.7 liter V8 engine.
The actual oil change should take about as long as the video, in my case just about as long to round up all the tools to complete the job.
If you have any questions please let me know below, I am not a professional mechanic but I have been the only person to change the oil on the truck.

Good video. Just a note for later. After years of doing fluid changes all day on all types of vehicles. The best way to control your pour whether its oil or coolant or any other large jug turn the jug so that its laying on its side (wide sides on top and bottom) this way the air stays above the fluid and doesnt get trapped around places like the neck and handle of the jug that gives that burping explosion of fluid that throws it all over the engine bay. Also it makes for a much smoother pour as all your fluid stays together and rather than tipping the top over to pour like milk you lift the bottom upward instead giving much more control of the speed it comes out at.

Nice thorough video. How many quarts did/does the 4.7 take?

Makes sense, I’ll try to hit on a couple issues I’ve had/am having, for the most part nothing major that a trip to the junkyard or repair shop can’t handle.

@@mechanicvance2480 2 years later but did You do a review on your truck? I got the same one (well it's a 2010 4.7) and here in Chile I don't see them that much, so I often roam around YT asking for some opinions and trying to be up with maintance.

@@CarlosRojas-oy7pm no I didn’t but it’s a thought. When work slows down I’ll try to get one out for you, anything in particular you wanna see?
