Honestly I don't have any soulslike games that come to mind... At least in terms of traditional soulslike games. In terms of tone... How would you feel about delving into a metroidvania game series called blasphemous? The dlc for the sequel is coming out soon so that's what's coming to mind.
DIablo would be really cool, but there are already really detailed story videos on youtube of that. It would be really cool to see Salt and Sanctuary, since there isnt a lot of lore content about it on youtube and what is there is hard to follow. Also a discussion of the nier series would be awesome.
If you're interested, the actual main plot of the game is that Sun Wukong found out the truth about how gods and buddhas gain their immortality (basically they are eating mortals and yaoguais and even some of their own to stay immortal and powerful) and wanted no part of it(you can read about this in the Journal - Great Sage' s Broken Shell ) , thus he quitted his position in heaven and his buddhahood. But gods(Celestial Court) and buddhas(LingShan) wouldn't let that go, thus they summoned or forced other great YaoGuai Kings(Black Bear, Yellow Wind Sage, Yellow Brow, Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master and the Bull King) along with Erlang Shen leading the Celestial Court's army to wage war against Sun WuKong and committed genocide towards beings(mostly monkeys) on Mount HuaGuo. Sun WuKong was defeated due to the fact the spell of his Head Band was still on, and he knew he would never be free of it if he remained alive, thus he willed his own death in the end. And each of YaoGuai King was given a relic of Sun WuKong (the 5 sense of the Great Sage) after his death, yet Erlang himself took the memory(the essential part of the 6th relic, Mind) of WuKong and hid it in his 3rd eye. and murdered two Celestial Soldiers who witnessed it(this can be read in Erlang's Journal). Gods and buddhas understand the undying nature of the stone-monkey, and they knew after a time for reincarnation, another monkey would return again and again, thus they orchestrated the Project Destined One, to guide the Destined One(what player is playing, the reincarnation of Sun WuKong) to beat the 5 Yaoguai Kings and take back 5 out of 6 sense because to their knowledge and natural order, the 6th sense aka the Mind would perish and dissipate away upon one's death, thus they could have a new Monkey King with all the might of the Sun WuKong, yet lack his memories and his rebellion nature, to be put on the Head Band, to submit and serve the Celestial Court and LingShan (the bad ending). But under the help of Maitreya Buddha(the Baby Buddha, aka the Buddha of Future), Yuan ShouCheng(the old man who guided the Gourd, told the Destined One about the hidden Loongs, and taught the Destined One the fire circle spell) and Sun WuKong's old master(the one who taught the keeper of Black Wind Mountain two spells and told him to teach the Destined One when he's arrived), if the Destined managed to pass all the tests Erlang Shen had arranged(his brothers: The White cloak Snake Guai in Chapter 1; the yellow robe boar in Chapter 2; the hooded guy who lead the Destined One in the secret watermelon field in Chapter 3; the guy with lots of arms on his back leading the Destined One to Purple Cloud Mountain in Chapter 4; the Axe Bull guy in Chapter 5 leading to the secret birth of the Red Boy) and discovered all the secrets in each Chapter, Maitreya Buddha would open a gateway for the Destined One to where Erlang Shen was hiding all these centuries, the MeiShan. There, the Destined One must face his final test to fight against Erlang Shen, who would actually force the player to gain the full power of Sun WuKong, and strengthened by Erlang Shen(practice by fighting the 4 Great Celestial Kings, and molded by fire), when the Destined One triumphed, Erlang would then return the Memories of Sun WuKong to the Destined One. Thus when the player past the final test given by the Great Sage himself in the end, Sun WuKong's Mind would return and opened his eyes before being crowned by the Head Band, foreshadowing the failure of the Celestial Court and LingShan.
@@Veyzo In the story of "Journey to the West", the Head Band was given by Avalokitesvara (Bodhisattva GuanYin, who was also the master of the Black Bear and Red Boy, in the end of the animation of Chapter 1, Black Bear asked GuanYin about Elder JinChi's obsession towards Tangsanzang's kasaya) to Tangsanzang(Sun WuKong's master, the whole journey is Sun Wukong and his brothers along with a White Loong which transformed as a hourse, escorting Tangsanzang from Tang Dynasty to the west where LingShan lies in for the Scripture; Tangsangzang was reincarnation of Jinchanzi, he and Yellow Brow were both disciples on LingShan back in the ancient times; in the beginning of the game, Sun Wukong's speach "my master, safe" was refering to Tangsanzang) to control Sun WuKong by an execration which would cause severe headache that basically disables Sun WuKong(think it as Kryptonite towards Superman). Upon the end of the journey and retrieving the Scripture successfully, Sun WuKong was pointed as the Victorious Fighting Buddha and his Head-Band was removed(so said the Tathagata Buddha, the Head of LingShan). In the game, though the Head-band was not on his head, yet the effect of spell still effected, indicating that Bodhisattva GuanYin was on sight of the fight, probably along with other higher beings from both LingShan and the Celestial Court, overseeing the war ("the cloud is dazzling"), since Tangsanzang had no reason to betray Sun WuKong(and Yellow Brow pointed that Jinchanzi hid himself).
The Headband control Sun Wukong but in the end it reappears on the reawakened Destined One and that's a good? Is it not the same band and just symbolic? I'm only on Chapter 4 so idk. I got spoiled the ending when I started reading THTTW and realized the final boss I heard about, "Great Sage," is Sun Wukong's street name in the book..
@@corruptgunslinger Headband is the symbol of submission and enslaved both symbolic and literally. Sun WuKong willed his own death of flesh in order to get rid of it.
Fun fact about Wukong story 1. As per Buddha , there are only 4 beings that are beyond traditional immortals and mortals . A. Wukong the stone monkey B. Red butt baboon who can see time and move between worlds C. 6 ear macaque who can see past and future and hear things others cannot. D. Long armed gibbon who is known to reach both sun and moon and only 1 who can fight Biddha 1 on 1 . But all 4 ARE NOT IMMORTAL. Only Wukong attained immortality. 2. The loong brothers lost their father in a funny yet bizarre way. Their father was the king Loong (dragon) who hated the gourd old man who happened to be a seer. King loong challenged the seer to make a prophecy. The prophecy stated that rain will fall on a certain area for a certain duration. The king agreed smirking (he was God of rain so in control of rain) . Then next day Jade emperor ordered the King Dragon to rain in that area for the duration seet foretold. The king loong was furious and cheated by lessening the duration by few moments . Next day he mocked the seer for losing to him. The seer (the gourd guy) said sadly " I might ve lost the challenge, but you will lose your head". Surely that very day , celestial palace ordered execution of the Loong King for disobeying the Jade emperor. 😂😂😂😂 3. Kang jin loong was not the horse. He was one of the 28 constellation generals. He helped wukong escape the Golden cymbals . The Cymbals can turn any being inside them into pus and flesh in 3 days . It was kang jin loong who used his horn to help wukomg escape. 4. Yellowbrow was just a choir boy for Maitreya Buddha (the future Buddha). He escaped from celestial realm after stealing the mace and the sack from Maitreya to create his own territory . Yellowbrow was one of the few who defeated wukong soundly . He never feared wukong. He only hated Tang monk bcz he was always defeated by Tang Monk . He defeated the 28 constellation generals, the 3rd prince and his 4 captains , the turtle and snake generals all by himself. Wukong became so desparate , he begged everyone and anyone to help him. It was Maitreya who answered his pleas . Maitreya wrote "stop" in wukong palm and told him to show it to Yellowbrow. Yellowbrow was hypnotised and was defeated when he was brought to the melon field. 5. Dawnstar 🐓 is the duskveil. Dawnstar is one of the 28 constellation generals, he was son of Bodhisattva Pilanpo. Pilanpo sadly was killed and her hands were used for experimentation . Her son the dawnstar had power in his eyes which was used to create the weaver 🪡. Sadly the needle was used against him and he is now the undead known as duskveil. 😢😢😢😢 6. In the novel , there is a land called Kingdom of Women. The Tang monk and Zhu ba Jie get pregnant accidentally. 😂😂😂😂 No joke@@chapstick0011
Watching and learning what each chapter was about in depth was just amazing. Love, Tragedy, Greed all these stories really made this game even better. I really hope this game gets the recognition it deserves. Absolute Cinema
I platinumed the game and had a pretty good idea of the story but I'm so grateful for this vid and all the info and stuff i didn't catch on with erlang and other stories that I didn't know ow the full scope of. Love your lore vids.
Its not the jade emperor tht have an affair but it is his son, the golden crow(日金乌) that represent the sun. Implied by the pair of artefacts obtained in the chapter.
I haven't played they game yet. But I grew up watching this lore on the 80s cause my mom made me go pick up tons of Chinese vhs tapes from the local Asian vid store and journey to the west a very long a$$ series we all watched. I'll have to try it out if I ever put down protect zomboid.
Great video, great explanation . So far I’ve found videos with guys trying to tell this story by using pop culture references and jokes. This is a lot better.
It has to he understood that journey to the west alone is based on eastern mythology, confusionism, legalims, buddhism, taoism and daoism. Buddhism teaches what you speak of, but the mythology is different from the religious views. Just another reason journey to the west is the king of eastern mythology, with lord of the rings being the king of the west.
It would be very weird, but I'd love to see Kratos dropped into Black Myth Wukong, see all the dickery of gods and supernatural beings, and just go to work

I knew the story already but this is summarized very nicely!
Amazing summary. Could you elaborate on the headband? What was the spell and why did he need to be free of it? Who created this spell?

Another great lore video! Will you two ever make a Stellar Blade lore video?
Another masterpiece 🎉
This was really good!
1:13:58 is the saddest and most emotional part of this video, perfect!
It’s so odd hearing buddha wanting revenge and such, I thought his whole goal was to be detached from all that stuff for inner peace and enlightenment

Is my video lagged or something? There is no way this only has 550 views😭😭
Interesting how the difference in game makes such a huge difference in views? How does fall off happen like that from dark souls to this?
It would be very weird, but I'd love to see Kratos dropped into Black Myth Wukong, see all the dickery of gods and supernatural beings, and just go to work
Wow. You guys didn't know your audience. Lmao
