Just wondering, do you worship or believe in any of the “mythical” creatures you’ve spoken of? Some folks for example still believe in the Norse gods respectfully. :)
@@blueandyyb I'm glad you think it was worth the wait! Journey to the West is such an epic tale, and it deserves this kind of attention. I hope the chapter-by-chapter summary gave you a deeper appreciation for the story beyond the game.
I was disheartened when this story wasn't covered here before the wukong game came out. But actually getting chapter by chapter summary of the whole tale? My eyes couldn't believe it at first lol. Well worth the wait
Me waking up to see a UA-cam notification from Mythology and Fiction Explained is definitely the highlight of my day. Missed you so much man. Still waiting for more Dark World Episode 3
Dude Dude were have you been so much time omg tonight is a wonderful night 🎉🎉🎉🎉. Welcome back my frend . I m soooo happy to ,,see'' you again uploading videos. I rly like your videos...they are the best inn this theem inn You Tube so.... Wellcome back and i hope to watch new video from you soon.
Honestly i’ve thought the same thing after hearing these stories and knowing LotR so well from channels like TBS or Tolkien Untangled. They all seem so synonymous in some ways…amazing tales that take place at points in history that we cannot prove or disprove but amazing to listen to.
It's been awhile since I have read Journey to the West, so it is a welcome surprise to find that M&F decided to tackle such an epic tale. Personally I have always found Sun Wukong's Rogue's Gallery to be fascinating in their own right, as they are vastly diverse in strength, skills, origin, and motives. Definitely a book worth another read.
Two hours, well I get it since Journey to the west is LoTR's tier fantasy, one of the greatest greats; but mad respect taking the immense time to try and do it justice.
This was such an engaging breakdown of Journey to the West! 🙌 Sun Wukong's origin story is always a favorite of mine-it's amazing how he goes from a mischievous stone monkey to a legendary hero. The level of detail in the storytelling here is fantastic, especially the descriptions of Flower Fruit Mountain and Wukong's quest for immortality. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the journey unfolds, especially with the trials and tribulations alongside his unique companions. Great job bringing this classic to life for both new and seasoned fans!
I was actually introduced to the Monkey King through "Big Bird In China" when I was little, but I didn't learn about Sun Wu Kong's origins until I was much older!
I mean that's basically how things work. For example, If you break a business contract, you suffer a penalty and if you don't pay up, you get arrested. In a sense, a "stick" was used to make you do what the other person wanted
The story’s background ties in beautifully with the classic Journey to the West. Immersive Translate helped me grasp these cultural connections better.
What are you, twelve? This is barely a step off from the absurdity of Christianity. It's so rife with plot holes and continuity errors it's like it was written by a twelve year old. Oh wait, it essentially was, as it was some ancient idiot in a trash culture with no education.
I love this game so much but don’t understand it. I’m so interested in the story and sun wukong hisself update: I beat it 4 times now on new game plus 5 😂😂😂😂
For anyone here wondering about the chapter count and why it's 36 not 100, this seems to be based on The Monkey King, an abridged translation by Julia Lovell. It's an excellent read in it's own right, a very fun translation, I only wish it had the incident at Guanyin temple with the amazing technicolour dream cassock, the one with the house full of beautiful women who want to marry Pigsy, the one with Monkey's evil doppleganger, the one with the spider demons...
In a fun bit of timing I had just started the book when this video was released. I had of course heard of Journey to the West but a whole lot of it was very new to me. I really was not aware just how many battles and fights are in that story. It felt very modern in that way.
Fun fact: The 6 Robbers that Wukong killed at the beginning of the actual journey all have names that will be familiar to players of Black Myth Wukong. Their names are Craving Eyes, Fuming Ears, Hubris Nose, Envious Tongue, Grieved Body, and Desired Mind.
interesting aside is that Sun Wukong was born from the Spiritual Essence of Sky and Earth,a result of NvWa sacrifice to prevent the Sky collapsing unto the Earth ages ago;her spiritus split to form stones that fell on the Earth one of whom split open one day, thence was born the only one Monkey from a Rock,in Essence where there is Earth and Sky, there he will share in its being
Bro fr. The first third of the story is exclusively focused on him, he is present throughout the rest of the story, and his personal character arc is given more narrative weight than Tripitaka's. I 100% unironically consider him the protagonist rather than Tripitaka
I thought there was more to the story because during black myth wukong it starts with wukong and the guy with the 3rd eye fighting because of what he did in the celstial court which i dont remember u touching on
You know, given that the whole plot of the game is that the monkey had to die reincarnate and then go on a dark souls adventure just to free himself from that stupid headband, and then even still failed to escape from it unless you get the secret ending, I was guessing before I saw this that the headband was something the heavenly bureaucracy or the Jade emperor gave him because it just seems so diabolical. If the headband was really such a reliable way to control him then why did they bother bringing the entire heavenly army and the prologue of the game they could’ve just had someone give him a headache.
Are there some stories missing? I’m more familiar with the old tv shows, but stories like the six eared macaque, evil goldfish, and bear demon etc seem absent
I like how this “enlightened Buddha of Sandalwood” forgot the one favor someone asked of him and completely leaves it unresolved. Doesn’t ask the Buddha anything when he gets back like a day later or anything either. Poor turtle.
I was all ways curious is Goku was going to have 72 Transformations as well. 😅 But in all seriousness there is crazy amount of lore adapted from this to Dragonball Z
No, he is not, stop claiming Indians, Sun Wukong is super cool and bass, he fights the gods, while your Hanuman is just a loyal servant (a pet) of Hindu gods, boring AF.

I love how much of this story is more or less "I demand to speak with your manager."
The amount of bureaucracy is kind of amazing.
Yep. This novel is credited as one of the four great classical novels in China because of not only the mythology but also the political satire.

That was the plan but it took slightly longer to put together than first anticipated sadly.
The king has returned 🙌
And brought the Monkey King with him

Thank the gods you've returned. I missed watching your video. I can't wait for more mythology. It's good to have you back. ❤

One of my favorite myths/stories of all time. So happy this is what you chose to come back with.
It's so funny to me that this is a novel from the 15th century and Sun Wukong is such a memelord.
i love reading old books where the protagonist is just a total shitposter. sun wukong is top tier, beats out don quixote, even.
Sun Wukong is the OG.

You can always use magic to defeat the local monster, but there's no getting away from the fact you need to get your papers stamped.
Journey to the west along with Jason and the Argonauts sounds like the first "Fellowship" stories.
Though centuries earlier...

Phenomenal job!! I’ve been playing through Black Myth Wukong (like most it seems lol) and this has been so awesome to listen to!
1:11:02 just mind boggling how the monk trusted the greedy pig more than sun wukong the most useful member of the journey to the west team.
It's been a while, my lord. Thanks to Fate, I can't see this tale as awe-inspiring anymore
This story is crazy, but the moral seems to be: If you cant get it your way, beat them with your magic stick
the power of incredible violence
Or use monkey piss
