It's been awhile since I have read Journey to the West, so it is a welcome surprise to find that M&F decided to tackle such an epic tale. Personally I have always found Sun Wukong's Rogue's Gallery to be fascinating in their own right, as they are vastly diverse in strength, skills, origin, and motives. Definitely a book worth another read.
Honestly i’ve thought the same thing after hearing these stories and knowing LotR so well from channels like TBS or Tolkien Untangled. They all seem so synonymous in some ways…amazing tales that take place at points in history that we cannot prove or disprove but amazing to listen to.

I was actually introduced to the Monkey King through "Big Bird In China" when I was little, but I didn't learn about Sun Wu Kong's origins until I was much older!
Fun fact: The 6 Robbers that Wukong killed at the beginning of the actual journey all have names that will be familiar to players of Black Myth Wukong. Their names are Craving Eyes, Fuming Ears, Hubris Nose, Envious Tongue, Grieved Body, and Desired Mind.
interesting aside is that Sun Wukong was born from the Spiritual Essence of Sky and Earth，a result of NvWa sacrifice to prevent the Sky collapsing unto the Earth ages ago；her spiritus split to form stones that fell on the Earth one of whom split open one day， thence was born the only one Monkey from a Rock，in Essence where there is Earth and Sky， there he will share in its being

No, he is not, stop claiming Indians, Sun Wukong is super cool and bass, he fights the gods, while your Hanuman is just a loyal servant (a pet) of Hindu gods, boring AF.
I was all ways curious is Goku was going to have 72 Transformations as well. 😅 But in all seriousness there is crazy amount of lore adapted from this to Dragonball Z
I like how this “enlightened Buddha of Sandalwood” forgot the one favor someone asked of him and completely leaves it unresolved. Doesn’t ask the Buddha anything when he gets back like a day later or anything either. Poor turtle.
I wish someone would turn Journey to the west into a legit (animated) series. Too much content for a movie, or a very long 2nd part in a trilogy. No, Dragonball isn't basically the same story!

When it came to immortality Sun Wukong did not want to take any chances so hedged his bets by taking any immortality method available to him
