This video was beautifully recorded with a soundtrack that luxuriously complements the visuals. I'm a native of Westerly who has spent almost no time at all at the Ocean House and tend to avoid Watch Hill in the Summer season, so I can appreciate your desire to avoid the crowds. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful venue in a special locale and definitely worth a visit. You've provided a lovely tour of a place that I've often been tempted to "invade" but don't feel fully comfortable with due to what I perceive to be the pretentiousness of this monied enclave of Westerly. Thanks for this delightful tour of the Ocean House. BTW, for those who are unfamiliar with this part of the country, Westerly is located on the eastern side of the Pawcatuck River, which serves as the boundary between Rhode Island and Connecticut down here along the ocean and shares a great deal of history with Pawcatuck, CT, our CT neighbor to the west. Westerly and Pawcatuck are often perceived as a single community, so this was quite appropriate as part of "Afternoon in Connecticut."
Thank you so much for the information! Also for the kind compliments about the video itself. It’s hard making a video about a business, town or attraction I know little about. Still I try to showcase it the best that I can in the short time I am there. It is a beautiful place. I was always afraid to stop in myself. Worth the visit! :) happy new year
Jennifer you really are a tremendous help for us viewers. I had no idea this Hotel existed. Its amazing! Tks for sharing. p.s. you paired beautiful music choice to this footage, loved the soaring birds too.
We travelled to Connecticut about 10 years ago. Went to see the Denison Homestead in Mystic (I’m a direct Denison descendent from Canada). Loved it there! Stuck mostly to the area between Burlingame State Park (where we stayed) and Mystic. Spent a lot of time in Westerly, and loved the town. But once got lost (before gps) and accidentally ended up in Watch Hill. Quite the town. And discovered Ocean House. My dream ever since is to win the lottery, just so I can have a stay there :)
I too am a direct descendent from Denison in the Mystic vicinity...! My husband has that program, 'Ancestry,' to chart the family tree...and I also have the Dension Genealogy book. @TheAmtwhite
@@cathywilson1273 Which Denison are you a descendent of? My ancestor was Captain George. Son of the first Denison to America. Also, check out Ted Danson on Finding Your Roots. He has Denison genealogy too :)
@@TheAmtwhite - I can say with confidence now, (after consulting with my husband, since he input a good amount of data into the Ancestry database), and after he showed me the lineage in the Denison Genealogy book that I have at my fingertips, Capt. George Denison!! All these years...that have gone by, and I was in the dark...such a shame in a way...but my mom never really talked about her lineage (that far back).
I’ve driven by the Ocean House many times I never thought I could go in the hotel. I don’t think I could afford to stay in a broom closet during the off season at that hotel.
Very relaxing! I have never stayed in Watch Hill, but did stay at the Pleasant View Inn in Misquamicut 2 years ago. In fact, it looks like that may have been where you were filming that last beach scene? Been going to Misquamicut on and off since the 80's! 😊
I enjoy your videos, they touch upon some lovely towns that inspire me to explore them myself. How about some new videos on the cities of Connecticut (New Haven, Hartford etc) for urban eats and attractions? Black Eyed Sally's in downtown Hartford is amazing, and of course New Haven pizza. Surely some decent museums to check out as well.
You should change the name of your channel to afternoon in the Northeast. Just a suggestion. I just discovered your channel and I’m enjoying the videos.
Thank you so much! Thank you for the suggestion it’s not a bad idea. When I move past the CT borders It gets tricky for me where to publish. I have another channel called traveling with jennifer sparks savoy which covers my travels outside of CT. Rhode Island is so close tho! Feels like it needs to be with CT!

Just found your page and I loved this video. I'm excited to visit the Ocean House when I'm out there in October.
It’s a beauty! Have a great trip!

Just beautiful! One of my husband’s favorite childhood memories so thank you! We even have a picture of the Ocean House in our cottage in CT.

@@AfternooninConnecticut I subscribed to that channel, great videos there too.
Reminds me of a song...by a country singer. And an 80's electric guitar musician,or two...and a company that makes cymbals that's logo is a Z...
FYI the Ocean House and the beach are both in Rhode Island not Connecticut
Thank you 😊
