    I could be wrong...but this sounds like 'Beyond this life' am I right?

    This is pretty cool. Funny how live recording of drums doesnt sound like it used to in the 80s/90s with all the ambience and natural reverb. For someone who seems to hate mike, you sure do watch a lot of his videos. Look where Mike is and look at you?
    You should just stop these comments its a waste of your time and shows how you have nothing else to do except hate on people. My job is done...again. Awesome video by the way Vursata, is this on the budokan dvd?

    I just recently got into DT and i had heard of Portnoy at the drum events and thought ,,Hmmmm he is ok..but having watched him Motor thru "instrumedly" and other tracks I have found complete respect for him, his Drum parts are fucking amazing and suit the tracks %110 !he doesnt float like Lang or Donati ,, but fuck he playings music you can listen and hes adding great rhythms and thats what its all about...The Quandry- Be great soloist or being a great band n killin it! NO Brainer - Make music

    I work in the live concert production industry as well as being a drummer.
    From the looks of it, although I can most definitely be wrong, it appears as if KSM-32's are overheads, Audix D series for toms (Probably D-2), Beta 91 for kick, SM57 for Octoban, with an array of pencil condensers for various cymbals including hi-hat and some smaller splashes.
    These microphones combined with the fact that they use in-ear monitors rather than wedges are why it's so isolated.

    @phatpeople1234 you obviously have no musical taste or experience, DT's songs are by far some of the most technical pieces writen since the clasical era!! and the soul involved in writing the songs was immense!! if you knew anything about mike portnoy and what the songs mean then you would know what soul really is!!

  • @DrummerRF
    @DrummerRF 13 років тому

    @sirjakass I can write it down for you if you want? Its not that difficult because it's mainly just 32 notes or 16. Depents on how you count it. The only problem for me playing it is my lack of technique:P

  • @biloxi1314
    @biloxi1314 14 років тому

    well this video does not show his potential because beyond this life isn't a very technical piece for drums. but he is still the best drummer ever. and he'll still kick anyones ass (just my opinion)

    haaaaaaaaaaaa Its great to hear the track isolated and every professional Player that has done it on a big scale knows sometimes u miss a little 8th here or a 15 there
    hahahahaha

    @tmayne220 Dude, don't you know who Mike Mangini is? he's played really heavy stuff !!! Portnoy's work on DT is unique, amazing... but Mangini won't have any problems to play it as is

    portnoy has a dvd called live at budokan drums only... only on his website... there is also the score drums only! i want them!!!! but in my third world country you CAN'T find this!!!!

    @perfectdisasterband I think the controllers of the band made that decision not the members themselves. I think they're all signed and have legal contracts/obligations etc.

  • @DrMorbid

    DanDantheMusiqueMan: These are isolated microphones on Mike's kit. And of course, because it is life on stage, you can slightly hear other instruments through them.

    @runtodemhills. Thanls for both your replys. I do know the songs you metioned. It's just been a while since I have heard anything from Scenes from a Memory. The others I have not herad without music before. But thanks for putting me right. Can I subb you? Thanks for your time.

    Actually, my last comment was posted before I watched the whole video, so what I said was wrong. =P
    It's Beyond This Life until 2:26. Then I'm not sure until 4:03 where Ytse Jam starts. At 5:07 it's the Dance Of Eternity. I'm not sure about 5:50. Then at 7:45 it's Pull Me Under.

  • @Sivels

    @perfectdisasterband yeah, I think that is very much true.. Who knows what will happen, we can just hope that he will come back somehow.

  • @broomwinkle

    @Sivels yeah that probally is true but now I reckon dt are going to go down hill fast, Mike was the heart and soul of the band :/

  • @_Nafferty
    @_Nafferty 14 років тому

    @evilbob1001 It depends on what part you are talking about, this isn't all one song.
    The first song is Beyond This Life, a few parts later I can make out The Dance of Eternity. It seems to switch around between songs, though.

    @tmayne220 I bet he's just fine with learning Dt songs. After all he is the fastest and one of the #1 drummer's in the world.

  • @elchafa337
    @elchafa337 13 років тому

    @Sivels I disagree with both of yous. I understand MP was a very big part of DT, but if they get a drummer as good as him they're set for the new DT era. Mike Mangini might be replacing Portnoy.
