My sister(RIP) use to make this dessert using chocolate pudding. With or without the nuts in the crust! Around this area we called it Chocolate Lush! I love it, she also made it with lemon pudding!
Another variation is to put a can of blueberry pie filling on top of the pudding mixture before the cool whip layer. You can actually use any flavor pie filling. It is good. Try it.
I am 61 and I first learned to make this in 9th grade home ec class and it was called triple layer dessert. We made it with butterscotch pudding, but I have made it with chocolate, pistachio, or coconut. Was so proud of having made something so delicious as a young girl.
I have been making this dessert for 40 yrs. However I make it with chocolate and vanilla pudding. We call it Robert Redford Cake. Your version looks wonderful also. I love the name you gave it😊.. Happy 4'th of July!!!!
I've made this before, but used lemon pudding with a couple teaspoons of real lemon juice. It's called layered lemon torte. Also add a bit of lemon zest if u have lemons on hand
@@tinacollinsworth9507 thanks! I had to go to the grocery store today, so I bought some cream cheese and lemon pudding. I haven't made this in a while, and after this lady's post, I'm craving it! 😂
When I was younger and not disabled, I was the best cook in my family. I made a similar dish that we called Bishop's Pie. I used the pecan crust, cream cheese layer and chocolate pudding, topped with whipped topping and sprinkled chopped pecans and shaved chocolate!! It was always a big hit!!!
I hear you. I have stage 4 metastasis breast cancer and I have a lot of bad days. Out of energy. I used to loved to cook and worked for a grocery chain for 38 years.
I'm 75 and my mother-in-law gave me this recipe the way yours is made, with the chocolate pudding and everything you put jn yours. I will make mine this weekend for our big Independence Day cookout. Can't wait. Better get my grocery order sent to Walmart. Thanks Happy 4th.
I love this dessert. The recipe I have calls for a 3rd layer which is chocolate pudding. It's called Mountain Mudslide cause when you cut into it it looks sorta like a mudslide.
This is the closest thing to Miss Thelma’s famous church dessert I have ever seen. She used chocolate pudding and it disappeared INSTANTLY. You can literally each a whole plateful and not feel bloated or full. It is soooooooo good. So glad I was curious about this Shingaditty lol!!
We make something very much like this and use chocolate instant pudding instead. Top it like you did and put grated chocolate bar on top. We call it Better Than Sex dessert!
We make it like you do for special occasions with chocolate pudding and we top it with more chopped pecans and toasted coconut. We call it, "Better than Robert Redford"😁
I made it too, years ago, I've used different variations of puddings, we just called it whatever type chocolate lush, or lemon, coconut cream lush. Delicious!!!
I know this as 4 layer desert. Sometimes I put one flavor pudding on half & another flavor on the other half. Another one is a banana split desert. Use your imagination 🎉🎉🎉
This looks so good, my sweet mother in law makes a banana pudding version, and my precious father in law has never been able to enjoy it due to being allergic to bananas. I’m going to make this for him, and surprise him for our annual Independence Day family get together. Thank you for sharing, now if I can only remember the name lol!
My best friend 's Mother makes this except with chocolate pudding and no nuts. She's always called it simply Chocolate Dessert or, for the last few decades, "Jay's Dessert". It is fantastic! I can't tell you how happy I am that she makes it for every celebration...and no one ever gets tired of it😋
Absolutely LOVE the name you chose. In my childhood, my mom made a chocolate pudding version, and named zebra cake. It truly is a crowd pleaser! Thanks for sharing with us.

@@homemadecreations4491 it is! Give it a try with lemon pudding too, the slight sourness of the lemon is great with the sweetness of the dessert. Also if u do use peanuts, use the regular salted ones, that adds the sweet n salty vibe! I'm gonna try your way too! Ty! 😊
I saw the title of this channel and thought, "oh good, finally homemade." Disappointed this uses crap cool whip. Looks good though and I'm seeing other recipes that may be more my cup of tea.
Where is that? I don't use Cool Whip either. My granddaughters know my house only has real cream, but Cool Whip is popular & easy so therefore very popular. Lots of people eat it.
Due to the fact that the negative comments have grown, we are not accepting anymore comments at this time.
NO NUTS. We omit
the nuts, & use HEATH
toffee 'chips.'

What is coolwhip? Greetings from Peg Cunningham, Australia.
We call them pistacchio squares. We use pistacchio pudding instead of vanilla
Another good one.
This challenge is a hard one because I’m a fan of both. However, I do favor a great peach cobbler especially with ice cream.
