@@quickandtastyonthefarm a civic class like I had. We learned everything from the Constitution to how to vote, fill out taxes, maintain a checking account, etc
We had a class in the 90's called Basic Adult Living. It was a "souped-up" version of home economics and some basic household finance and sex-ed all rolled into one. It was a great experiment and I was told last year that it is still available at my little country school. Has a new name I can't recall at the moment, but has advanced with technology and knowledge. I still remember things I learned in that class.
Wonderful idea. I’m in my 60’s and have always enjoy cooking and baking. So many of today’s young people didn’t have the advantage of home cooking that my generation grew up with. Most parents worked outside the home, meals were grabbed on the go. So many valuable lessons were learned and discussed in the kitchen and around the dinner table.
I've been doing the egg yolk in the bottle for a couple of years now. People don't realize you can just screw the lid on and store the yolks in the bottle in the fridge to save for whenever. You can even add a little water or milk or cream, maybe some salt and shake them up and store in the freezer for longer term storage. Label the bottle with amt of liquid added to make it easier to use in recipes.
I think a lot of young people would benefit from a cooking course! (Adults, too - I know a lot of older adults who don't cook). Knife skills, how to cut vegetables and meats, and how to measure ingredients would be a great place to start.
There are a lot of people who don’t know how to cook. I remember an older lady who took it upon herself to show people how. She saw the need! A station in Nashville picked up the local story. She was showing a single dad how to make a lazy cobbler. You can make delicious food without a lot of work. Yes, there is a need!
Love it!!!! A great idea might be to share what the basic staples every kitchen should have.. Salt, pepper, garlic salt, onion powder, sugar, flour, etc. love your channel!!
Loved your recipe here! I haven't made it yet, but it's one I will definitely try. I have always loved to cook, even at an early age. When I got married, I moved to a family farm, which my husband was the oldest of eight children. I was a city girl growing up, but quickly learned to become a farm cook. I learned so much! Wouldn't trade it for the world! I'm glad you are going to start a cooking course for newly weds. I think it's very needed for the younger generation. I thought a cute name for your course might be...."Newlywed and Down-Home Fed", because farm cooking is as down-home as it gets!
Love the idea of teaching course for newly weds etc. Our son was widowed a couple years ago, now single dad with 3 teenagers. I will tell him about your idea. He lives in Alabama!
Have mercy, I’ve cooked for my kids, nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors etc. when they all grew up and moved out they kept calling asking how to make this or that. I finally paid a company to print out a cookbook with all of my tried and true recipes. 😊
In the 60’s in Home Economics we started with cooking bacon 🥓 in the oven. Then we were in group and had to cook breakfast……slowly but surely! The need home economics in SCHOOL ALSO MONEY MANAGEMENT,!!
I think you need to start with the basics of buying food, washing it, and storing it safely. Maybe add lots of salads to your course for summer meals. Italian pasta salad, macaroni salad, potato salad, Waldorf salad, apple salad, coleslaw. Basic salads that can be used as a side dish for more than one meal. Many young people don't know how to make these.

May God also continue to bless those all over the world who watch you and your family as they are examples what life can be when you live for Him.
Amazing recipe, looks delicious!!!❤ For your course..cuts of beef, pork and chicken, ways to cook them. Fry, braise, bake etc. This is an amazing plan Vicky!!! Kudos!❤
What a sweet channel. Glad I found it. Also, I want to say how nice it is to watch a farm family. I really appreciate American farm families. It is a good way to live, even tho, most of us couldn't hack it. God bless you all.
Just call it, "Let's get cookin!" Keep it simple. Because I feel you can take it a step further and not just for newlyweds or college kids. You can even include adult singles who want to learn, and stop being fun of because they don't. Lol AKA my older sister but she is married with kids but still has my mom cooking for her every day. God bless you sister, love you're family, i love that you love and how you kissed you're hubby! I love that so much, you're a great mother and wife I can tell. You came across my feed on UA-cam, this was my first time viewing you. I'll watch again! God bless sister.
One of the most important lessons my mother taught me as a newlywed and new to cooking variation, was What Spice goes with What food, and what spices go together in a single dish! That saved my bacon so many times in the kitchen. I could spice up a plain meal, toss some new flavors together, spice up my own meats. It was the one lesson that stuck with me besides her tomato flour gravy which was the base of one sauce the base of all, chili, spaghetti, enchilada. Just gravy made with tomato sauce instead of just milk and water. Change the spice, change the dish.

@raibeart1955 Ok... my dream human just arrived in the chat! Classical French Chef...Check. Lives in the most beautiful country on the planet...Check. Has the accent of every steamy dream I've ever had since I found out my grandmother (whose grandparents came to the US on a boat from their homeland and took the surname of said ancestral home [Americanized of course] Scott) was a proud Scott who told wonderful stories of dragons, sea monsters and Sailors coming home to their ladies after fighting the thick fog and the serpent-like creatures of the deep sea. Yes, and, I know Home E.C. is, I guess now, being phased out in schools! I started helping out in the kitchen early on as a child and, I was allowed to cook early on in my pre- teens and, when, I was in middle school in Indiana Home E.C.was a requirement for both boys and girls, as well, as machine shop! 13:31 There are a lot of people my age and, even older that don’t actually cook! 14:48
This is a wonderful idea! A great thing to have a video on would be kitchen staples. For example, a good knife for cutting, sizes of measuring cups, spoons, pans, etc. You don’t need all the fancy stuff to make a great meal!
Tried and True recipies is a good name, i have taught cooking classes in a privet school and still do teach classes but on hold right now till i get a bigger place
Cooking ideas are a wonderful idea for so many young people to learn making meals preparation for ahead of time they can learn how to read a recipe learn how to use a crockpot for dump and go recipes young people could learn a lot about cooking with this channel I lost my mom at a very young age and I wish I had some body to teach me how to be a better cook I had to learn how to do it all my self I think its a wonderful idea what you are doing for people who would love to learn
A large cafeteria used to make this in the mid to late 70's. My friends mom used to work there. The only difference is the recipe had pecans. I think it was called millionaires pie. Oh, they made it in pie tins. This is the best 😊
Teach safety in the kitchen. Especially cooking with hot oil and what to do in case of fire. My daughter in law did not know not to use water on a grease fire. Very important. Love your show❤
Oh wow, God bless her is she alright?? I hope so!! May the good Lord protect her and the whole family (even when she cooks lol) I shouldn't laugh but I think of my older sister who boiled water and burned the pot which almost cost us a home fire growing up. Anyhow, blessing to you all sister!
For first course I would definitely do the basics as another viewer stated (what to always have in your pantry, how to wash produce and store properly, measuring ingredients, cutting, kitchen safety). I used to struggle with knowing when meat was fully cooked so that would be good. Also, just "real" meals. Simple, budget friendly meals and teaching them how to meal plan. Definitely more than one course for sure. Start with basics and move all the way up to gardening and canning! Love it! Wish you the best of luck.
That is the neatest separating egg hack I've ever seen !! Yes, I think the cooking courses would be a GREAT IDEA !! Idk what they teach in the Home Ec. classes in school now or even if there available. But I think there's so many young adults that don't know the basics of cooking. Idk what you'd plan on having in the courses/classes Vicky but whatever you do I'm sure it would be awesome. Because anything y'all put on here is !! I have a homemade sugar cream pie recipe that is really good. Idk if you already have one or if you'd like it. Thanks to y'all for sharing this video with us I really enjoyed it. Y'all stay safe and God's blessings to each one of you.
I'm glad your family enjoys your cooking so much they cannot wait for completion; however, it would have been nice to see the completed product and how they are served. Are you able to cut these up and remove them from the pan? Is it served in the pan? How do they look once well chilled? Thanks so much. I guess I will have to make them to find out the answer to my questions.
In my opinion prepping is most important in cooking...especially for working folks. When you have time, chop onion, green pepper and freeze it....also dishes that call for cooked bacon, cook it ahead, crumble it and freeze it. When I find whole chickens on sale, I go ahead and cook them and bag them in 1 - 2 cup portions.....(chopped or shredded).....saves alot of time!!
Beautiful! Can't wait to make this treat! Yes, we do need cooking classes. Utube is full of sites that just throw processed foods into 9x13s and crockpots. Nothing is thought out and no technique..Home economics is so important and it's pretty much gone now.❤
A meat loaf recipe, how to cook tasty vegetables. How to cook a good breakfast that can be used as a supper. I am 84 and learned to cook while living by myself. There are always going to be mess up but learn to be able to change and not worry about it.
That's awesome idea so many people need a cooking class I like to cook but always learn new things from watching others cook and have learned it's really important to follow a recipe to the T
I just found your channel 🌸 And you instantly made me feel better...it's like you were talking just to me and I made a new friend! I must think about what tittle to come up with for new cook's, and yes I cannot wait to try this recipe for a summer evening dessert 🍰 Thank you for sharing this and thank you for making my day 🌹 ever since covid, I have felt down and sad...stressed out from the prices at the grocery store and like most people, it's tough to pay rent, make affordable meals etc..... Please be kind, because you never know what someone is going through... Wishing everyone a wonderful day 🙏 🌹
I will definitely try this recipe, I’ve never seen anything like it. It sounds yummy. Your idea for newlyweds & just starters is fabulous! 🌺These are some ideas from my experience. In 1973 when I got married I had no idea how to set up a kitchen. What ingredients needed to bake & cook with. And when cooking how they work together for favor. All I knew how to do was bake simple. I didn’t know the difference between soy sauce and Worcestershire 😵💫or why an onion & green pepper was important to flavor. I had a cookbook for baking but not for cooking. You know books were the how to back then.
Basic utensils for the new cooks kitchen. Would be a good place to start. Measurement charts are really handy. This is a wonderful idea. Ritz bars looks delicious. Thank you!,
Yes and i would love one. Problem is....they take up a lot of kitchen space. With an air fryer, blender, food proccessor, toaster, microwave, etc...i am out of space.
Yes to the cooking class.Would be nice if you could do a whole meal . Maybe a different part of the meal each video and the end with the whole meal in its entirety. The cracker bars look great but you should have stirred the coconut while toasting.
I can hear your peacock in the background. Just found your channel and plan on looking up your farm channel also. I can cook but there are always new ways to learn to do things ( like the water bottle/egg yolk trick) and new recipes to try. Definitely going to try this one for our next family get-together!
I’m definitely going to try this recipe tonight. I subscribed to your husbands channel and watched a few. I love horses. I will send you a recipe that I won #1 a dessert challenge at our school.
Ideas: Cooking Terms, basic tools, substitutions if you don't have something, (for me - substitutions for alcohol in recipes), how to do basic meal planning, some simple menus for different scenarios. 15 minute meals
Poppa looks happy with this on. He knows these are not going to make it to the refrigerator. I thinks more the casserole and chili will do. This quick and easy one is great. How to make small cheeseboard for snacks, quick sandwich organizing skills. All the food ready for ham sandwiches for instant.
I'm so glad I found you! I think your idea is awesome! One thing I never learned until lately was that there are recipe formulas for the 5 mother sauces. 1. Roux/dairy 2. Roux/white sauce 3. Roux/brown sauce 4. Roux/ tomato Italian 5. Hollandaise/melted butter/acid. I would love to see examples of each sauce in a meal. It would've really helped me when I was first married.
I would love to see a cooking course! My mother never let me cook while I was growing up, because she said it was too "fussy." I don't have sisters, so I had to kind of learn on my own through the years. I think it would be good for new cooks to learn how to roast a turkey and how to fix a good beef roast. Then follow it up with classes on how to put together a simple Thanksgiving dinner, a Christmas meal, etc. I can't wait to see what you put together!
I absolutely do think there is a need for our young people to learn all kinds of things. Somewhere the ball got dropped and it's time to pick it up again . Good for you Vicki God bless you and yours
Yeah for you for the cooking class! Our young folks need these lessons from one who loves to cook.I will send lesson ideas after I have time to mull them over. Thank you for this class.
I wonder if cream cheese could be added to the cool whip mixture since I can't eat cool whip without it being mixed with something. This looks delicious. Yes!! Do teach how to cook.
How to grocery shop and what to keep on hand so you can make a meal and have what you need. I’ve been married for 33 years and still sometimes struggle with that.
Well, I made these. Which brings me to additional questions. When you pull them out of the oven after 15 minutes, how do you know if they are done? They did not look really brown. Is the coconut supposed to be sweetened or unsweetened? Did you toast your nuts? How long are you supposed to leave this in the fridge? If you are going to do a beginner cooking class, just a suggestion that you give your class to a group before so you know how much detail you need to include in the class and the receipt. Thanks again.
16:57 My mom got me a twelve volume Cordon Bleu cooking class. It was wonderful and I used it a lot, don’t know if they still have it. I have an easy Italian dish for the new bride. This is my husbands favorite that I make. Manicotti. Use Ricotta cheese and add an egg and mozzarella & shredded Parm salt & pepper & I use a little oregano. Cook noodles fill noodles with the cheese mixture { I didn’t even use piping bag )cut down the middle place seam side down in 9x13 top w/ a little marinara & mozzarella 350 for 30 min. It really is easy. It soo good and you cannot get manicotti out in restaurants this good.
Names of tools for kitchen, like garlic press, egg chopper, cherry pitter, different size spatulas, how to read measurements on cups n tsp, tbs, abbreviations, melon baller, pastry brush, potato masher, etc.
Those look yummy! Ideas... How to stock a basic pantry (spices, flour, oil, sugar, ect) Measure while baking but cook from the heart. Cooking essentials(pots, pans, utensils) Fold/Pinch/Dash/Knead/Boil? What is it?
Also keep egg shells for garden. I took Home Economics in Gr 8, 9 in Victoria, BC. It didnt exist in Ontario where our family moved to when dad was transferred to in 1969/1970,
Channel name suggestion- Quick and Tasty for Absolute Begginers. Course suggestions would start with Bare Necessities - basic utensils you need to start with. Then a course on terms. ( my daughter said a woman she worked with didn't know what saute meant, or what sweat the onions meant. That sort of thing)Then, a course on eggs. Maybe a course on meats. Like recommended temps, styles of cooking, how to tell if it's cooked to rare, medium, etc. Then on to veggies. Finally desserts. I'm sure you will be a wonderful teacher, however you decide to set up your class.
Hi Vickie!! I love your Recipes!! Keep at them!!! Thanks for making such fun and mostly easy stuff. When are you going to France to see Maurines family? Will it be one more year before Blake is home?
I think your cooking coarser is a great idea. Thinking showing how to make substitutions for ingredients needed for a recipe but don’t have, like buttermilk, self rising flour, how to measure things like peanut butter, or shortening in water. Measuring conversions like how many teaspoons equal a tablespoon, how many ounces in a cup. Oh my gosh I can think of so many things that would be great for you to teach young people about cooking that this text would take forever to read 😂. You have such great ideas on your channel already I am sure you will do a wonderful job with the coarse. I can’t wait to see it.
That was another life saver my mom taught me. She learned it from the old old betty crocker cook book. remember those? haha I still have mine she gave me in a binder. Another hint, to tell the newlyweds to go thrifting to find those old cook books. ha
I think you’ve got a great idea! There’s a lot of young people that could benefit from some beginner advice. One thing should be about basic things you should have in your kitchen. And also about how important having sharp knives is. That sort of thing. Good luck with your idea! This recipe looks great!

I totally agree!
Quick and Tasty cooking for beginners from start to finish.
Thank you so much 🙂
Your colt is so beautiful. Thank you.
I'm going to make these they look so good!! Yummy 😋
Hope you enjoy
A large cafeteria used to make this in the mid to late 70's. My friends mom used to work there. The only difference is the recipe had pecans. I think it was called millionaires pie. Oh, they made it in pie tins. This is the best 😊
Furr’s Cafeteria in Texas
Yes it is great info.
Teach safety in the kitchen. Especially cooking with hot oil and what to do in case of fire. My daughter in law did not know not to use water on a grease fire. Very important. Love your show❤
thank you - so so important
Wonderful idea on the cooking plan.
Y'all stay safe and God's blessings to each one of you.
ha ha but kind of true
wd love yr recipe!,😊
I think it's a great idea! A starter course that gives quick and easy simple recipes in the first lesson.
That’s a great idea for a course! One subject that may be helpful is MEASUREMENTS AND EQUIVALENTS
Measurements, equivalents and substitutions!
So think one of the basics would be what kind of tools, pans, and stand alone cookers and good to start with.
Love how you take your time! Your family and friends be proud of you. 🥰
thank you so much
Saw this recipe video pop up. I subscribed! Already shared the egg trick to my daughters and niece.
Awesome! Thank you!
Well said!
There are always going to be mess up but learn to be able to change and not worry about it.
love this and yes there is always going to be messes but your right we need to not worry about it. thank you
That's awesome idea so many people need a cooking class I like to cook but always learn new things from watching others cook and have learned it's really important to follow a recipe to the T
thank you
A quick, simple breakfast, lunch, and dinner.Delicious easy but very yummy.
And a full proof dessert.
thx
Measurements of quantity, very important. How to make a pie shell. Learning that patience is key to any good food. Can't rush perfection!
Those ritz bars look amazing 👏. Your horses 🐎 are beautiful ❤. I lived on a farm 🚜 as a child and this makes me reminisce. ❤
what a great childhood
I just found your channel 🌸
And you instantly made me feel better...it's like you were talking just to me and I made a new friend!
I must think about what tittle to come up with for new cook's, and yes I cannot wait to try this recipe for a summer evening dessert 🍰
Thank you for sharing this and thank you for making my day 🌹 ever since covid, I have felt down and sad...stressed out from the prices at the grocery store and like most people, it's tough to pay rent, make affordable meals etc.....
Please be kind, because you never know what someone is going through...
Wishing everyone a wonderful day 🙏 🌹
wow thank you for your kindness I am so thankful you found me - prayers for you to feel better
Thank you!,
Great idea!
I taught my girls how to cook when they were toddlers. My dad was a wonderful cook and he taught me. My mom could burn going water
thats neat your dad taught you and you passed it on.
Love this idea of the crust for real coconut cream pie 🥧 😋
Me too!!
Totally agree with home economics. Vickie you need stand mixer and beat your egg whites and do something else 😉. Totally envy your kitchen.
Yes and i would love one. Problem is....they take up a lot of kitchen space. With an air fryer, blender, food proccessor, toaster, microwave, etc...i am out of space.
Yes! Thank you!
Great idea, I personally would start with basic tools/cookware needed in the kitchen for beginner cooks.
Great idea!
Great idea to start a cooking class for young people!!!
I think so too!
Yes to the cooking class.Would be nice if you could do a whole meal . Maybe a different part of the meal each video and the end with the whole meal in its entirety.
The cracker bars look great but you should have stirred the coconut while toasting.
thank you. great ideas. and thx for the coconut tip!!
Start with fast any easy dishes. Simple but tasty. You have a great ideal.🎉
Thank you so much 😊
I can hear your peacock in the background. Just found your channel and plan on looking up your farm channel also. I can cook but there are always new ways to learn to do things ( like the water bottle/egg yolk trick) and new recipes to try. Definitely going to try this one for our next family get-together!
Awesome! Thank you!
Wow cool trick with yokes!
I thought so too
They look so good, you family is lovely 💜🇨🇦💜
aw thank you
I’m definitely going to try this recipe tonight. I subscribed to your husbands channel and watched a few. I love horses. I will send you a recipe that I won #1 a dessert challenge at our school.
Hope you enjoy
Yum yum!! I always fed my dogs raw egg yolks... amazing shiny fur & healthy dogs. Thank-you! Much love to all!❤️🇨🇦
Ideas: Cooking Terms, basic tools, substitutions if you don't have something, (for me - substitutions for alcohol in recipes), how to do basic meal planning, some simple menus for different scenarios. 15 minute meals
I love this idea! I think it would be great to show how to cut up a chicken or turkey both raw and after it’s been cooked.
Love the idea. I’m 75 and learning new things every day. I love to read recipes. My thought for the name of the new course: Let’s Get Cooking.
fun idea for the name
Yummy ❤ thank you 😊 ❤
thank you for watching
i think the first cooking course should include a basic list of the most important tools,
Meal planning and grocery shopping. Maybe a cookbook with shopping tips for later😊.
Sounds good!
My grandkids learn in 4-h even table setting
I think there is s need for teaching ppl to cook because some ppl don’t know a thing about cooking. It will help them so much
thanks. i'm excited
Poppa looks happy with this on. He knows these are not going to make it to the refrigerator. I thinks more the casserole and chili will do. This quick and easy one is great. How to make small cheeseboard for snacks, quick sandwich organizing skills. All the food ready for ham sandwiches for instant.
great ideas
I'm so glad I found you! I think your idea is awesome! One thing I never learned until lately was that there are recipe formulas for the 5 mother sauces. 1. Roux/dairy 2. Roux/white sauce 3. Roux/brown sauce 4. Roux/ tomato Italian 5. Hollandaise/melted butter/acid.
I would love to see examples of each sauce in a meal. It would've really helped me when I was first married.
great idea - i need to study up on this
Enjoyed your video. My favorite recipe is buttermilk candy. My mother gave me a batch each Christmas. I'd loved to see your version.
i love that. I need to have my mother in law help me sometime and share
I gotta try this! Looks so good!
Hope you enjoy
I would love to see a cooking course! My mother never let me cook while I was growing up, because she said it was too "fussy." I don't have sisters, so I had to kind of learn on my own through the years. I think it would be good for new cooks to learn how to roast a turkey and how to fix a good beef roast. Then follow it up with classes on how to put together a simple Thanksgiving dinner, a Christmas meal, etc. I can't wait to see what you put together!
I absolutely do think there is a need for our young people to learn all kinds of things. Somewhere the ball got dropped and it's time to pick it up again .
Good for you Vicki
God bless you and yours
Yeah for you for the cooking class! Our young folks need these lessons from one who loves to cook.I will send lesson ideas after I have time to mull them over. Thank you for this class.
thank you so much I am excited and a little nervous
Sounds Delicious!!
So good!
Quick Easy Healthy Meals Absolutely a need! "Beginners Dinners"
thank you
I wonder if cream cheese could be added to the cool whip mixture since I can't eat cool whip without it being mixed with something. This looks delicious. Yes!! Do teach how to cook.
I bet it would be delicious cream cheese makes everything good
There is definitely a need for your learning how class. Wish I’d had one when I first started out. 😊
thanks so much I am excited about doing this and a little nervous
Beginner Cooking with Quick and Tasty on the Farm.
16:57 My mom got me a twelve volume
Cordon Bleu cooking class.
This looks so yummy! Can’t wait to try it! ❤
It's so good!
Yes! It was fun , so much fun outside on the farm!
thank you for joining me
Those look yummy!
Ideas...
How to stock a basic pantry (spices, flour, oil, sugar, ect)
Measure while baking but cook from the heart.
Cooking essentials(pots,pans,utensils)
Fold/Pinch/Dash/Knead/Boil?
I'm sure you will be a wonderful teacher, however you decide to set up your class.
such great ideas thank you for sharing
Hi Vickie!! I love your Recipes!! Keep at them!!! Thanks for making such fun and mostly easy stuff. When are you going to France to see Maurines family? Will it be one more year before Blake is home?
Yes we head to France soon - can hardly wait! Blake has one more year - he is sure loving serving his mission
I can’t wait to see it.
send me an email with more ideas these are awesome. quickandtastyonthefarm@gmail.com thank you!!!
That was another life saver my mom taught me. She learned it from the old old betty crocker cook book. remember those? haha I still have mine she gave me in a binder. Another hint, to tell the newlyweds to go thrifting to find those old cook books. ha
A cooking class would be nice .
thank you
I think you’ve got a great idea! There’s a lot of young people that could benefit from some beginner advice. One thing should be about basic things you should have in your kitchen. And also about how important having sharp knives is. That sort of thing. Good luck with your idea! This recipe looks great!
That does look good. Something for a busy family on the go. 💖💖💖
thank you
Yes I do think there is a need for instructions for young people on how to cook those bars look delicious I'm going to try it😊
Hope you enjoy
Proper storage of food, n how to ignore expiration dates on certain foods, how food lasts.
