No way. The "3 episode rule" is not good. If you had a meal for the first time and it tasted horrible you wouldn't eat it another 2 times just to see if the flavor changed. You just don't like it and that's OK

Heck yeah, I'd say liking the One Piece anime pacing is a hot take all on it's own. In fact, I would have preferred a world where when Toei is like 30 chapters or less behind the start of the current manga arc, they would cease making One Piece for like a year, and then start again. Just so we have a well paced anime.
I've been saying for years if one piece gets remade from the start with better animation and pacing I'd 100% drop toei and watch the new one, I can't wait for this remake

An example would be AINZ ore Momongas past world And how it was a post Apocalyptic world where one could find dead people on the roads, the air was toxic and the only thing worth living for, for Ainz it was to play with his friends in Yggdriziell so much that he spent a lot of money on it. This made Ainz develop an almost parental love for their creations

It's because it's story about a middle-aged man reincarnated in a magical medieval world with RPG systems (well obviously) and surrounded by abnormally interested strangely proportioned women. Not that it's bad, but has a similar floor-plan to a lot of others, and watching a lot of Isekai like such gets you burnt out quick unfotunately, unable to recognize the Shield Hero from the SAO in just the first episode(s) or so ☹️

Although to be honest, Rock Lee and Vegeta have completely different stories because in reality most of the characters in Dragon Ball train like Rock Lee, but what separates their characters and the fans is the redemption of Vegeta

Fans of Vegeta have more to admire than just a guy who trains and inspires because at the end of the day Vegeta has a bigger character than rock LEE.
I don't agree that HxH could be bigger than One Piece. Primarily because of that lack of an overarching theme. One Piece is simple, yes, and its overarching theme is freedom, easy to understand. The thing is Oda's story feels so grand and epic because many of the themes that are tackled will always tie back to freedom in some way. Authoritarian government? The enemy of freedom. Wonderous world exploring sea adventure? The romantic side of freedom. Slavery, racism, extreme class division? Prejudices that affect people's freedom. There's a massive throughline that is present throughout the story and makes it worthwhile seeing how this tale of freedom through Luffy's eyes will end.
Hxh does have an overarching theme though, its about how humans Are inherently evil creatures and Are the cause of most of the worlds problems.
I would argue one piece is in fact not simple at all. it seems to follow a simple and uplifting narrative but is highly complex, dont know any other story that discusses so many important questions. most good stories start easy and bc of that are able to catch the attention of many and develop. one piece is a perfect example of it. we still dont even know luffy or garps or rogers or dragons or imus motivation. thats just wild

one piece is easy told. the narrative seems simple. but if one looks closer its so complex. compare it with naruto. naruto, sasuke, pain, madara all have quite simple motivations and are main characters. look at shanks, black beard, roger, imu etc. we have no idea whats their motivation is. itachi is one of the most complex characters of naruto. compare him to garp. itachi is one of my fav characters but its possible that garp is so much deeper, his clan is hunted as well, he saw the evil of the government and endured it in a way itachi couldnt. but nobody notice it bc oda writes optimistic.

A premise doesn't get any simpler than that. You are conflating simple with easy. I said the premise is simple and easy to understand, not that the dream is easy to achieve. Just because we learn that Pirate King is a stepping stone to Luffy's real dream, doesn't mean being the Pirate King stopped being the main premise for the hundreds of chapters that preceded it. Learn to read, I never said the One Piece world was simple and easy, I literally said it gets complicated as it goes on.
Rudeus was reincarnated as a straight up new born and grew up with his harem. And despite having all his memories he still very clearly has his child brain moments. I just think there's more nuance than "30 year old man likes underaged girls"
He doesn’t even really have a harem for the most part, just a couple different love interests at least so far.

not really. he said its not simple, but its kinda simple. kinda simple means the main theme is simple (be pirate king and be free), but the things going on arent simple so the story overall isnt really simple
and it's not even simple it's just more digestible since it's better at explaining its complicated aspects

Itadori being the son of Kenjaku should have played into the story more, and Kenjaku could have used this knowledge to gain Yuji's trust to tempt him into gaining the dark power needed to kill Sukuna... All in a bid to create a sorcerer even more powerful than Sukuna himself (since Kenny just cares about ultimate destruction).

Honestly, i thought the theme of hunter hunter was the power of desire. Like they hunt after something, or desire something, and its all the journey of each person having a core motivator and their responses to it. Gon's unhealthy mental state and attachment, killua not having one of his own at first and being impressionable at first to becoming extremely solid in it, hisokas... take on desire... and kurapikas all consuming desire for revenge. Its all about individuality and motivating desires more than just, oh look, exploration. Or i could be wrong, i never read the manga

The thorfin take is fine, but why were they compared in the first place? Like wouldn't naruto make for a better comparison? Ion really think luffy is the most inspirational ever either, cuz by his own admission, he does things for himself and doesn't want to be this heroic figure or whatnot. But Luffy and throfin feel like a weird comp.
Yeah, it's a little odd. Luffy for me feels something like All Might or Superman, a literal superhero who embodies an ideal and is thus inherently a bit alien. Alien in the sense because they don't feel like people, but this perfect representation of an ideal. Don't get me wrong, not saying Luffy isn't a character, but that he's also an icon. Using Naruto as a comparison to Thorfinn works better, I agree.
@msaag5490 To me luffy feels like a dude who doesn't really want to concern himself with people he doesn't care about. He doesn't really consider the consequences of his actions (like how breaking into impel down to save ace kind of lead to BB being able to invade and able to release some of the most deadly prisoners) and lives life on his own terms not bending to anyone. He's an incredibly charismatic and endearing character and one I want to follow, but not one I'm necessarily inspired by.
I agree they’re not comparable. But there are an enormous number of grown adults who would die in the hill that luffy is more inspirational. If you go to the comments in the original post of my take you’ll see them.
@@1TonyMontanaa Bruh, I love One Piece, but the most inspirational thing the Straw Hats do is whenever they do the signature "walk" and do some crazy action like burning the world government flag. If I want to look for a "traditional" scene of inspiration, Ei Sei or Shin from Kingdom doing one of their speeches would fit. Heck, I say Dr. Hiruluk has a better inspirational final speech than anything Luffy has done. The only "inspirational" thing Luffy provides is being a beacon of freedom, a sort of aura morale buff to hold onto hope and keep fighting for freedom.

You know what would be a great ending for One Piece? Having the One Piece be something that Luffy would have to sacrifice his crew for or something. Like their memories, their connections, their relationships etc. As Luffy just with the quickest most nonchalant answer being "if that's what it takes to get the One Piece, then who needs it! It's worthless then compared to them." Kind of like how FMA:B ending was, where Ed willingly gave up his alchemy, despite being the STRONGEST alchemist in the world by that point, because he put more value into his loved ones than any status or power.
Im enjoying Mushuko Tensei. Don't like the Harem thing or the pervy stuff but right now Rudy's emotional journey is interesting, the combat is good, and the supporting characters are intriguing. Don't blame anyone for not liking it though cause trying to get through the beginning is hard
The beginning has been my biggest issue with it. ive been meaning to get back into it, but I just didn't enjoy the beginning very much and unintentionally dropped the series

As a One Piece fan who marathoned like 700ish episodes last year to get caught-ish up, The one piece anime's pacing is absolute crap. The 1 chapter per episode model is a BAAAAAD one. If you want to get into one piece: Read the Manga or wait for "The One Piece" because I PROMISE, especially later in the series, the OP anime's pacing WILL murder your soul. The padding in the episodes is unbearable. Still frames from the manga that would be snap-reactions get STREEEREETCHED over ridiculously long periods of background foley. So many pregnant pauses. So much airtime given to "last time on" that stretches ba 5 or six episodes. I LOVE OP's world, story, and characters. I am bordering on hatred for the current anime as it stands.
Explaining what JJK would be if Sukuna was the MC just sounds like an Isekai haha 😂
I 100% agree with Stockholm Syndrome on One Piece episodes. Initially i love the beginning of the anime however slowly it became a chore to me and I slowly hated the hype and the extremist OP fans.
I had an acquaintance who loved One Piece and we only talk/discuss about OP whenever we meet. Sadly he passed away months before Oda revealed that Luffy ate the God(?) fruit instead of rubber. I felt devastated knowing that my friend couldnt see that part. I somehow felt betrayed and sad for my friend.
So yeah, F you Oda for making it unnecessary long. Dude took 1000+ episodes just to troll his fans.

I just started One Piece on April 12th. I caught up with the anime on May 28th. I will say 100% that if someone chooses to watch all of one piece they will be rewarded with a great world full of fun characters, but also as someone who spent at least a decade or more not watching one piece because it was too long despite the praise of many people I hold dear, that show is way too fucking long to either suggest or insist that someone watch. Worth it if you want to, not if you don't.

Honestly, I think it really is a good recommendations as long as you specifically recommend the manga and the person is a manga reader. Yes it is a lot, but the manga doesn’t drag like the anime really does.

Originally it was supposed to be that way I heard. Like Neji, Choji, and I think Lee we're supposed to die in that arc. But I believe it was the editors who decided against that.

Not even to sound pretentious. It’s complicated and the viz scans be straight up wrong somethings and be slightly changing words that make things weird. And a lot of people read once and move on, and it’s hard to do that with JJK and actually understand it
I think it's mostly the fact that it uses a lot of Japanese. I doubt most Japanese people have the same issues with the manga.

Three things and ironically all One Piece related lol:
1. Ya A LOT of the government is bad but it's not fully corrupted even the revolutionary army doesn't want it all gone
2. I don't think it's a hot take to say the One Piece Anime is too long because most people understand that. ya people with Stockholm might say otherwise but I think that's the minority
3. I like most of the filler in One Piece not because it's amazing but because it adds to the adventure and usually has something of value so I personally think the long run time is fine but not the scenes they drag out to extend the length of an arc for no good reason or the constant flash backs of things we've already seen. Hopefully that makes sense

Hot take: cg is very good for making part of a scene really pop and stick out.
Few examples the crystal scorpions from shangri la, or shigarakis giant finger mutation. They stick out in the scene, also giving a big contrast to our 2d characters and surroundings to say ‘look at me’
The thorfinn one is the coldest take I’ve ever heard and one piece used to be my #1 anime and is still in my top 3 I read every chapter and hypothesize abt every single one, I don’t care for Vinland saga nearly as much as I do anymore but thorfinn was so much more inspirational than Luffy will ever be

For as long as I can remember One Piece has been too long for me to start. I’m 31 and I remember being in middle school thinking this looks cool I’ll buy the dvds and binge it when it’s over. HA!

(Rant incoming, I honestly wrote down my thoughts and I haven't actually finished the video. By the time I'm writing this, I'm 18:16 into the video, but I just wanted to share my opinions. Just please note, Im some random kid in a spinney chair who wanted to share his thoughts.)
I'm not an isekai fan, I simply don't find most isekai enjoyable. But I do feel like you did them a bit dirty. Moonlit Fantasy, Mushoku Tensei, and Eminence in Shadow all are very unoriginal, yes. But that's just the base line. Strong Guy gets a harem, blah blah blah, bad story writing. But that's unfair, just like demon slayer, while these series are on a straight line, its the characters and world that keep one invested. For Eminence In Shadow, seeing how Cid interacts with a world he views as a playground IS a very enjoyable idea that rightfully so grasped many peoples attention. Mushoku is about relationships, its clear that we are not supposed to like Rudy, in fact, we are not supposed to like MOST of the cast. But despite all these very bad people leading the show, its popular because the world and their interactions are enjoyable. We see these bad people in Mushoku for all they are worth, we see them at their lowest, both morally and physically, and yet, we see them at their best in the same light. Look at Paul, he's a cheating bastard of a father who would rather beat his son than fix himself. But despite this view of him, we can clearly see hes just a father who loves the people around him too much, we see how he hates himself for his mistakes, and we see him try to fix himself. An argument for both sides can be made quite easily as these characters, unlike in other series, aren't just 2D, they feel real. Moonlit Fantasy is probably the toughest to defend, which sucks as its one of my favorites. Moonlit isn't creative, and in my opinion, it doesn't have many tropes to make it worth while. The protag is fine, but there are a lot better. The characters aren't realistic, they worship him, and hate those who insult him while wanting to have his babies and what not. The thing is, the story of the series is what carries it. Its honestly very formulaic and generic, but the way the story takes our protags mini revenge plot is very interesting. The world of Moonlit is a good one, and while the protags group isn't super interesting, we get a lot of time to see other characters who are very interesting, like the other hero's, or the demons. I'm not gonna sit here and say your wrong, because your not wrong, these series are generic, and have similar tropes and are often times boring. But I will say that judging them by a stereotype isn't fair, if you are to comment on a series, finish it, and try to see what the series could be trying to say. Saying that a series isn't good because the main character is strong and has people who love them isn't fair at all. If we go by that trope, then why do we consider the first 2 seasons of SAO to be good? I mean, they follow the same trope, and dont say its because it was the "first of its kind to do it like that" because it wasnt. People enjoy the first two seasons of SAO because the characters and the world are worth investing time into.

The thing with the dub vs sub debate is that a lot of our introductions to anime was through the medium of 4kids who made some of the worse censors and localizations and those things made people mix up bad dubs with the censorship and localizations
Please make videos about the Jewelpet anime. It is better than the entire shonen genre, and with the major modern shonens winding down, the stage is being set for a massive Jewelpet revival.

Camp fire cooking Isekai was so good, you'll feel good while watching, Mukoda the MC is so wholesome and kind, and Fel is so maxed out and buffed that you'll have no anxiety of something bad will happen to them, I can watch it every weekend forever tbh.
The eminence in shadow is one of my favorite isekai anime. It feels like a parody of the shitty isekai that you tend to think of when you hear the word. A good example is when Shadow is playing the piano underground and it gives off that cheesy cliché, and then it shows people trying to find a missing piano from where he stole it... HE STOLE A PIANO for a dramatic scene. And as you said, it's also true that the MC doesn't care about having a harem at all. They tend to do their own thing while Shadow does his. They basically all love him BUT when they actually try something, you'll often find him on the ceiling hiding from them, so that he can go back to being a chuunibyo. It gets serious sometimes too, and while it might not have much depth, it makes up for it in HYPE.
If hunter hunter didn’t have breaks it’d prolly be over by now but it would probably need better illustration to be even close to one piece. My hot take is that 58 years old is relatively young for a profession that barely requires you to draw black and white designs.(I have beef w togashi)Especially considering his chapters aren’t that well drawn girls from my high school put out similar drawings in high school
He’s a fantastic story teller but the fact he’s gatekeeping the story so he can draw is is lame as hell especially when illustration is barely mid
Yeah, some people are pretty good at drawing single big pictures, but drawing fifty pages of 4-6 tiny detailed illustrations with words and gutters between them every month, hunched over a desk with crippling back problems is a little different, no? If it was really that easy to pump out manga chapters, every good artist would do it, yeah?
I wouldn't call it gatekeeping a story so much as I would call it "agonizing spinal injury and dehabilitating motor function issues with the hand you literally use to draw." He seriously can't even sit down; I think it's better for all of us to just let him rest 😔

I tried watching that, but stopped when I found myself rooting for the people the author of the story wants me to hate.
I'm not watching a show that tells me just people are bad.
I feel like the mc potential of a villian that is just the strongest by being the absolute worst makes the catharsis of him finally being put down all that more rewarding especially if they are in on it "is this it? Is this the one who will finally fight past my cheating and bull finally!!!" Dont know if this has been done effectively yet, but im entertained by the idea. I also feel like the mc needing to be that underdog just inherently being the better option be limited in storytelling potential, like anime can continue to branch out, be a lot of different things.
Raw > subs > dubs and anyone who knows even basic Japanese knows this is true. They change content in subs and even more so in dubs.

Can someone explain something to me about jjk? So it’s pretty well understood that binding vows are the loose screw in the jjk power system but one part of it is explained. A pact with multiple people involved can have very extreme consequences that can vary wildly in how the consequences play out. In the same conversation where that is explained it tells the consequences of breaking a pact put on yourself (I’m getting this all from the English dub so that may be where the problem comes from.) if you break a vow you put on yourself, you lose the benefits you gained from your limitation. Which is very mild considering what it could be. So my question?
Useless miwa, she made a vow that she would never touch a sword again in exchange for a massive power increase that did absolutely nothing for her. Her sword broke. Boom done. What is to stop her from getting a new sword and picking up where she left off? The way it’s explained, if she breaks the vow she would lose the power she gained from the vow. But her not being able to use a sword accomplishes the same negative effect and then some. So if she picked up a new sword wouldn’t she be right back to where she was in strength before she made the vow? Is it possible that the powers that be knew she would break the vow eventually so the benefit she gained did nothing? It would explain why that moment fell so flat for her. But then sukuna breaking his own vows wouldn’t explain how he maintained his power and got benefits from vows he would eventually break. Idk the loose screw is rattling my brain rn.
The hate on Mushoku Tensei is so heavy here. The MC isnt staying 14 for the whole show like mha. Literal years have gone by between the time he left home and the season 2 finale releasing soon (btw in the span of the last 4-5 episodes 8 months have passed). The reason Mushoku Tensei is popular for an isekai isn't just for the pervyness the mc has, the show has A LOT of growing and healing as he battles his depression and anxieties that lead him down his previous life as a shut in and people connect with it.

In AOT, Eren should have absolutely 100% squashed all of humanity. Yes I understand that he wanted his friends to beat him and be hailed as heros, but it shouldn’t have even been able to happen. The whole reason his friends even had a chance at beating him during his founding titan transformation was because of Falco and his jaw titan getting wings. But Falco should have never gotten the jaw titan. During the battle in Marley, Eren mopped the jaw titan and had him dead to rights, per the use of its jaw to get to the war hammer titan. At that moment Eren should’ve also just eaten the jaw titan. He’s collected most of them anyway so like why not take it too? Not like you’re giving it to any of your allies? If Eren just takes the jaw titan there Falco never swoops in to save the day and no one ever stands a chance. And yes I understand at this point Eren knew everything that was going to happen in every timeline where he both did and didn’t mop the entire world, but me personally I wanted to watch the world burn. Too many anime have the good guys win. He burned most of it to the ground anyway just finish the job 😂

gonna put 2 comments in one because I don't feel like making them separate.
1. In terms of Isekai, I honestly just watch them to pass the time, not really enjoy them since they do follow the same path. The only one for me that doesn't as much do that Is Log Horizon and it also is one of my favorite anime, so I'm probably biased there. That being said, I still thought season 3 was kinda garbage and I could be wrong, but I believe the author dropped it a while back.
2. When I first watched Mushoku Tensei, one of my first thoughts were "this feels like 'The beginning after the end' except the main character VASTLY views relationships differently". I don't know if anyone else knows what I'm referencing, but yeah. Thought it was kinda amusing

Ever since then, I LOVE isekei, because I'm a HUGE gamer and would LOVE to be in my favorite video games! Log Horizon, SaO (First season) and especially OVERLORD are some of my favorite ANIME let alone Isekei! Enjoy what you enjoy, and be damn proud of it! 12:32 I personally casually enjoy very complicated series, it’s in my opinion it’s just a different audience, like I’m a major JoJo fan, take part seven, the insane conceptualized power that is the spin is irrationally complicated sometimes but that’s why I read this casually. My Casual is taking Fun in these Irrationally complicated concepts, which is is part of the reason I enjoy jjk.
Another point is the existence of genre such as mystery, they exist to be read by someone who wants to put in the effort to theorize the mysteries and wait in anticipation until it’s revealed, this is the casual for people who read mystery stories.

My preference with sub over dub is that I don't understand Japanese and thus can have a certain level of separation, and because I generally find the delivery of lines better. If cringey stuff happens, I'd rather hear it in a language I don't understand. I am also not in the mood to gamble if the English VA work for an anime is good or bad. Even if the JP VA work is bad, again at least its in a language I don't understand so I don't have to scrunch myself into ball hearing bad line delivery.
It isn't remotely a gamble with dub though-- the vast vast majority of dubs are fantastic. It is just as likely to find a bad sub as it is to find a bad dub in modern anime, but neither are common. If part of your reason for preferring sub is so you find it less cringy, you probably just don't like the anime as much as you think you do. If the cringe is part of the story, that reflects on the quality of the story-- not the quality of the voice actors for the dub. In regard to cringiness, you are basically just saying that you'd prefer to read it than to actually hear it and understand it outloud😅.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy sub, but I'm basically just imagining that they are speaking English while reading it anyway. I avoid watching sub unless it is my only option and It probably won't ever come out with a dub.

I am mildly bothered that he puts mushoku tensei in the same category as dog shit shows. Mushoku is THE isekai not just "a" isekai. It is the progenitor of the "died and got reincarnated" sort of genre so its a little weird to slap it in a category with all the dog shit that tried to copy it. Also bro really the "rudy is a pedo" thing is ridiculous he is objectively a child to everyone but himself. its only weird for the audience because we know he can remember his past life. if you remembered your past life it probably wouldn't make a difference in the age you date in your current one. I don’t know how hot a take this is, but stop blaming the anime/manga for toxic/annoying fans, the fandom should rarely if ever impact the enjoyment of something. Word of mouth is okay, but something like what happened with my hero and JJK is largely the fault of those watching it and not the product itself.

Coming back to it, the mushoku tensei being a basic isekai is indeed a hot take, and it’s also objectively wrong bc of how nuanced the story telling actually is
Someone looking at the plot of mushoku might think it’s basic from just an outside perspective but if you actually watch the anime and deal with the fact that Rudy is supposed to make you uncomfortable in the early seasons, you’ll find more joy in watching what I believe to be the best told story about growth and second chances
