Storyborading is getting more and more relavant for professionals onsite as well as online (say while explaining concepts over video), so this FC episode is a must watch to learn related skills!
Loved the entire discussion on "Before your analysis is worth checking, we need to know if the analysis will produce worthy findings" ... especially the part about making the storyboard ahead of time -- just like when athlete visualizes not just success, but exactly how to get there.
Hi, thanks it’s very useful. Can you offer some tips/ more story boards to exercise some common issues, with a stress on Financial implications. This could be on variety of common topics: - Drop in Sales - 360 Revival of Business - Cost controls - Invest in CAPEX vs Opex ( IT vs. people) - startup Early funding - Cash Flow Issues (Startups) - Business Expansion ( New Markets) Looking forward
Hi Michael, As a old manager in an operations of a large corporate, I'm really enjoying the content on this channel. Your logic and communication is on point, I hope to achieve even a small % of your mastery some day! I have been going through different types of courses, books & online content to grow my strategy abilities. My aim is to make a bigger impact at work, helping teams identify focus areas, develop better plans and improve execution. This episode was great as It helped me start to see the bigger practical picture, the breakdowns with tips & tricks have been the most insightful - how you use the different tools/frameworks together with the caveats from your experience. I'm still learning how to tie it all together into a methodology/workflow, not just for problem solving/analyses but also how to synthesize, prioritise and present such detailed info. I have been thinking about using an case interviews approach to get deeper into the critical thinking processes & improve business judgement, however, there's so many ways you can "skin a cat" (not literally :)). I don't have a business background (engineering) so I'm not sure if this would have the right level of detail to build a good foundation. Would you be in a position to recommend a curriculum that would meet my learning objective? Thanks again for the great content! :)
Hi Eugene, Thank you for your kind comment. It is smart to plan to use case interviews materials to help you build a stronger foundation. This is what we recommend all our members to do. In terms of curriculum, our recommendation is to work through the premium membership content in order in which we recommend in the email you will receive once you become a member. Specifically, we recommend to start with The Consulting Offer even if member is not preparing for case interviews (like in your case) because it is a great way to build a strong foundation to make the most of our more advanced content. Premium membership content we have (on StrategyTV.com/Strategy TV apps) generally takes over 1 year to master. After 6 full months as a Premium member you will be granted a status of FC Insider (at no additional charge), which means you will be able to access our most advanced programs on StrategyTraining.com and Strategy Training apps. So our recommendation is to spend 6 months mastering programs within Premium membership and then, once you become an FC Insider, start working through programs on StrategyTraining.com/apps. You can become a Premium member here www.firmsconsulting.com/subscription-options/
Congratulations Eugene, I too have an engineering background and making the transition. I'd say you are in the right place! Consume the content FC provides. I haven't seen anything yet that beats it.
This video is good for those who usually present internally and externally. This gives you poise and finesse on how to present yourself well by using MECE on a story board. IT looks clean and helps you conveys the right message to your audience.
I think it's an excellent video that breaks down all the elements of this seemingly complex skill of story-boarding in an easy and succinct way. I wish I knew this approach a few years back before the B-school...would have allowed me to practice this skill and approach. Thanks FC team for sharing this.
Interesting insights into creating storyboards. A presentation/report broken down by section of the work done shows a team that doesn't have a storyboard! It is equally interesting to see how an effective storyboard can strengthen the team.
Hmm, so if I am understanding this correctly, a storyboard is basically a road map to show if the journey you plan to take is worth taking in the first place? More like a compass, and not a clock.
Hi Sam, The storyboard is the message engagement team delivers to the client, using the decision tree and hypotheses that has been developed, and it is based on the anticipated results of the study. You can learn more here www.firmsconsulting.com/quarterly/storyboard-strategy-consulting/
Thanks for putting it so succinctly. Are the headlines same as the hypothesis? If so, how do you account for changes required to the storyboard when hypothesis are invalidated ?

The concept of the story board: all your slides' title when added together must tell a meaningful story to your reader.
Hi everyone! Hope you will enjoy "Management Consulting Storyboard. How, When and Why | Strategic Management" episode. Let us know what you think.
The storyboarding concepts in this FC episode have a universal appeal and can be applied by professionals in any industry. Highly recommended!
Thank you, Ashish

I agree with you. Why waste precious time on an elaborate analysis that adds nothing insightful to the over engagement?
